My friend came over last night. She told me that the 8 out of 10 women she was friends with in NY that got bc are all doing good. 1 did pass but was quite older and had some health issues.

Her personal Best Friend is 9 years out with 18 nodes pos.

Another friend-stage 4-8 years out as well.

for what it is worth-- I have found through this experience at least 15 friends and colleagues who have been through this... and they are all fine and thriving.... you will be too!

    I love survivor stories.

I think that reading these boards can skew your perspective of how many women are living well after dxed with cancer.  It's been pointed out before, that many women use these boards extensively when they are first diagnosed and going through treatment or develop a reoccurance.  There are also imposters who post extreme stories in order to garner attention.  As a result, women who have successfully gone through treatment are not represented proportionately as they are in the "real world".

Friend of college roomate - four years out - ER/PR nodes.  Doing great.

Mom of close friend - ten years out. Not sure of dx. but is doing great, never felt better.

Two friends of store friend - two to four years out - both great.

Colleague - five years out - just had twins!

Colleague - four years out - doing ok, had some issues w/ tamoxifen but is doing well.

Colleague of mos in law - just out, doing wonderful - running daily, feels good.

*every now and again I look at the survivors stories on the home page to lift myself up.  My friends mom gave me a book and her poetry class all wrote exerpts throughout the cancer book - all are doing well, there were about seven entries.

momand2kids - Thanks also, wow 15 friends doing good, that is fantastic.

Beverly11 - We are quite similar in our stat numbers mostly except I am HER2+. I almost thought I was reading my stat lines for a minute.

Yesterday at the OBGYN my nurse told me her sister diagnosed at age 40, both breasts and passed to sternum. She is 12 years cancer free.

I also forgot this story-when I woke up from surgery I was crying b-c the surgeoun came to me to to tell me they removed 2 sentinal nodes one clean one had very small amount of cancer.

I remember the nurse saying "Honey I had 11 nodes positive. We sare strong women living with bc not dying." I can't believe I forgot that. That was powerful.

I remember when I first got my Path report and was freaking out and doing a lot of googling on "6 nodes" - the first thing I came across was a women posting on a different forum from this one - she said "when I was 24 I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer, and had six positive nodes. I had a mastectomy and was told I had two years to live. I am now 42." No chemo, no Rads, no hormonals, and still OK. That has really stuck with me.
