Looks like most of us made it home ok. It was great meeting up with all of you, and it feels like we've known each other for a long time! Myself and Omaha had a great time on the LIRR going home.
Looking foward to the next get together, the boat show sounds great.
-
Loved meeting you all.
Boat show sounds like a good idea.
-
I'm home, I've been looking at info on the new cell phone I bought on my walk back to the subway. (Think I might have to exchange it for a different one on Monday....)
Lovely to meet you all as well!!
Trying to remember who it was, not at the gtg, you all suggested I PM for her wealth of info..... and I can't even blame chemo brain. Cookiegal is onto something - note taking is good!
Looking forward to next time.
-
-
Aha! I am getting there!!!

Here is another...

Sweaty...I recall Flash talking about Bethny or Bethnyc?
Keep us posted on your journey and what and who you decide to go with!
God Bless!
-
Thanks Angel!
-
we are one sassy bunch of bc babes! I think for now we will just keep chatting this thread...if someone want's to plan the next meet up they can just lable it NYC January meetup.
Flash, did anyone post pix from FL?
-
Looking at that photo is making me go back to the other decision I can't seem to make - whether I should go back to having bangs in my haircut!
When is that boat show anyway? Will have to look it up.
-
this one i can help you with
i just got bangs and they're tooooooo short. go for long layers instead.
-
he he....just don't have the front layers so long they will be in your eyes...that's annoying...have them long enought to sweep your forehead but clear your actual eye.
I go to Gil Ferrer and love him he has 40+ years of experience.
He doesn't accept blue cross though.
-
I just checked back on a few of the posts. Looks like the boat show is the week of Martin Luther's Birthday. We can firm up the plans when it gets closer. It'll be nice to be thinking summer when it's freezing cold out!

Ladies,
Hope you enjoy these photos..
Yes it was great meeting all of you. As said before great day and a great group of women. Was real tired when I got home last evening and had to go back to a great restaurant in the city named Vermicelli on 77th and Second avenue with my DH and friends. Have any of you ladies been there.
Suzy..Thanks for organizing. Looking forward to seeing all again in January.
Happy Thanksgiving !
Hugs,
Francine
-
SUZ- Did you make the chemo or not decision?
FRAN- Were you able to get the appt or did you make your decision?
FRANCINE Great pixs -
Flash,..
I too was wondering the same about Fran and Suzy.
I had my first fill today and all seems fine. I also had my first post chemo haircut.
Let's stay in touch..
Flash..It was fun meeting you.

Francine

No decison yet!
Polls are still open!
There is another specialist I want to see before I make my final decision, right now the earliest appointment I can get is on the 10th, but I am trying to move that earlier.
Leaning towards yes, but I flip flop almost every day!So glad everone had a good time, it is so icky tonight, we had the BEST wx.
-
Been thinking about all of you! Hope all is going well. The only test/doctor that I have is a bone density test tomorrow. Tamoxifen is known to play havic with your bones, and also my Mom has osteoprosis, and my sister has osteopina. So a combination of a few things going on there. After that, I'm doctor and test free until my mamo in February.
Hope everybody has a happy and healthy Thanksgiving!
-
Fran,
So gald to hear the fill went well! May it always be so!!
I have my first onc appt since surgery this Wednesday at Mt. Sinai. I was a bit surprised to learn this past week from a conference call I attended that blood work is NOT recommended for post BC dx for stage 1-3.....just history and physical exam, unless of course, you are symptomatic. I thought that was rather interesting....and that has reset my expectations of docs appts moving forward. Just thought I would share that...
Sue, I understand your quandary re: chemo. Even though I knew that having a BMX would minimize the need for radiation but not necessarily chemo...in my mind I kew if I had a questionable oncotype score, I would be more comfortable saying no to chemo if I went with the BMX! So that is what I did. Specifically I did not want to deal with the chemo brain issue for many obvious reasons...but work being so demanding that it really played an important part in my thought process. Hair and nausea I can deal with...but chemo brain? NOT!!
Funny thing though...post 3 surgeries, infection, hepatitis, healing...I am forgetful and slow going anyway....and that was WITHOUT chemo!!
We are all going to respond individually. You will not make a wrong decision here....you can only make the decision you can live with... Operative word being LIVE!
Good luck and God Bless!

I'm late for work and gotta run, don't have time to read yesterday's posts, and they removed everyone's web access at work as of yesterday - BASTARDS!
But - to clarifty - the one who can't make a decision (me) is Fran, the one who got the fills is Francine.
I'll try and catch up tonight, but....can anyone get this article and forward a link to me, or it in an actual file, or tell me how to find it? Kaplan J, Giron G, Tartter PI, Bleiweiss IJ, Estabrook A, Smith SR (2003) Breast conservation in patients with multiple ipsilateral synchronous cancers. J Am Coll Surg 197:726-729
Gotta go for now.....
-
Fran,
When I googles the article I could only get a link that won't let me access the site....
You might need to get to a medical library....or call up one of the docs and ask if you can get a copy??
God Bless!

I had to run off Sunday morning to Albany for business this week, but wanted you all to know I had so much fun, the company and the view was wonderful. I definetely want us to grow our friendships so let's see about doing that very soon. Thanks for planning the event Cookie Gal.

I suppose this is just the abstract, but still:
J Am Coll Surg. 2003 Nov;197(5):726-9.
Breast conservation in patients with multiple ipsilateral synchronous cancers.
Kaplan J, Giron G, Tartter PI, Bleiweiss IJ, Estabrook A, Smith SR.
Department of Surgery, St Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital Center, New York, NY, USA.
BACKGROUND: Because breast cancer survival after breast conservation has proved comparable to mastectomy, contraindications to mastectomy are increasingly being challenged. We treated the majority of our patients with multiple synchronous ipsilateral cancers with breast conservation and we compared them with patients who underwent mastectomy for comparable disease during the same interval. STUDY DESIGN: Patients with multiple ipsilateral synchronous breast cancers between 1989 and 2002 were identified from prospective databases maintained by us. A comparison was made between 36 patients treated with lumpectomy and 19 patients treated with mastectomy. RESULTS: There were no significant (all p values >0.2) differences between mastectomy and breast conservation patients in age, racial distribution, size of cancers, pathology, tumor differentiation, nodal involvement, or hormone receptor positivity. The majority of patients treated with breast conservation underwent at least one reexcision to obtain clear pathologic margins, and they were more likely to receive postoperative radiotherapy than patients treated with mastectomy. There were no significant differences in the local (97% versus 100%, p = 0.54) or distant (97% versus 95%, p = 0.20) 5-year disease- free survival between the group treated with breast conservation and the group treated with mastectomy. One patient in each group developed distant metastases. One patient in the breast conservation group developed local recurrence at both primary sites simultaneously 39 months after lumpectomies. She is free of disease 78 months after mastectomy. The remaining 52 patients are alive and free of disease. CONCLUSIONS: Breast conservation is an effective treatment for patients with synchronous ipsilateral breast cancers.

Ladies...just wanted to pop in and wish you all a fun and guilt free holiday tomorrow! I will be giving thanks for the new friendships formed here!
I am off to see the most favored (only) grandchild Friday and will be away for about 10 days. Will look forward to catching up in December!
Happy Thanksgiving and God Bless!
-
Happy Thanksgiving to all. Going to miss seeing the parade while driving. (sigh...) I hope you all safely travel to all of your destinations.
Angel- have fun seeing your grandchild.
-
Happy Thanksgiving to a new group of friends.
I wish all a year with many things to be thankful for. I know many of us are at different points in our BC. Stay strong ..
Hugs,
Francine

What a f'd up day today has been!
At least no Dr's will upset me tom'w!
-
Fran, hope everything is ok. relax, kick back and enjoy the day. I know I'm going to.
I'm on doctor overload too. I am so thankful that i don't have radiation today. I slept ten hours last night and don't feel entirely rested this morning. But, I am so thankful that radiation will lessen my chance of it coming back.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!!

1) Has anyone gone to those free weekend yoga classes for cancer patients held in Manhattan (not Gilda's club, other places)? I don't have the details but could get them. I might want to go sometime but am too chicken to go alone.
2) Re Thanksgiving:
I will probably wander over to Pathmark and get my traditional Turkey Pot Pie and Canned Cranberry Jelly and some Potatoes and a Pie (cherry? apple? sweet potato? all three?).
A friend on Long Island wants me to go to her house for the usual scene, but I can't bear pretending to be "normal" right now. On the other hand, there will be a gentleman attending who I've always been attracted to. I thought he was married but it turns out he technically wasn't, the woman in question is just a Baby Mama and a crackhead or some such, and I think they split up recently. Probably some tortured ugly story, I don't know the deets.
I'm tempted to go and put up with all the Thanksgiving bullshit with the sole purpose of f**king aforementioned guy - maybe in a closet somewhere. Or behind a tree after it gets dark. It should get dark early enough.... I'm even willing to give him $$ for his participation. But then I think I'd probably be ashamed afterward, as word of my pitiful desperation spreads amongst all my friends, making it a bad idea long-term. Plus what if I lose my sh*t entirely whilst in the act behind the tree and start weeping uncontrollably? That would not be fair unless I ponied up a whole bunch more $$, and then it gets too expensive.
Or worst of all, what if he says no, even after I wave a few twenties in his face?
Is it wrong to want some last sex while still having a "whole" body?
