Haven't had biopsy yet, but

Uh I already did...

HIPPA has nothing whatsoever to do with anything other than privacy, honey. Man, go back to school or something. Better still, do some research on the web yourself - try googling "spiculated breast carcinoma".
-
Wow - I'm terrified. Do you even know what slander is? I get the feeling you absolutely do not.
-
I want everyone to know that when I had the mammogram that found my DCIS, I was called in the doctors office at OhioHealth center in Columbus Ohio and he told me BEFORE biopsy "I hate to be the bearer of bad news but you have breast cancer".
I also want to say that I have seen some of you calling yourself Christians and if treating Julia this way is Christianlike I want noooo part of it. Unbelieveable!!!!!! I hope you are enjoying yourselves.

Main Entry: 2slander Function: noun Etymology: Middle English sclaundre, slaundre, from Anglo-French esclandre, alteration of escandle, from Late Latin scandalum stumbling block, offense - more at scandal Date: 14th century
1 : the utterance of false charges or misrepresentations which defame and damage another's reputation
2 : a false and defamatory oral statement about a person - compare libelThere's your dictionary definition.
MOREOVER - In a court of law, the plaintiff has to prove that the slander was INTENTIONAL - in other words, the defendant cannot be found guilty of slander unless it is found that they intentionally maligned the person with the knowledge that the facts as they state them are UNTRUE.
AND, slander is VERBAL. I think you better call them back and tell them that you meant to say desdemona222b and Crunchypoodlemama on Breastcancer.org are LIBELING Dr. Fine.
-
I don't know what to say, Hollyann and thenewme... I'm not saying anything bad about any of the three doctors I met with; in fact I liked them (and Dr. Fine is absolutely AWESOME -- he is the only one who really answered all my questions and convinced me that the first two doctors were right, that I do have bc, AND he explained why I had to do core first not excisional), I'm just telling you what they told me. It seems that other people are the ones saying they are bad and I should sue them because they told me that I definitely have cancer before I had my biopsy. I'm not going to sue them even if they're wrong! Good grief. I think they were blunt with me because when I met with the first two doctors, I didn't believe I had bc and I guess they wanted to shake me into reality.
Hollyann, do you think I'm making up what they said? It's right here in my file (this is p2 of the report I got from Dr. C's office). The note ("previous doctor") is referring to Dr. Israel.
(deleted report, but if anyone still doesn't believe doctors told me I have bc, I'll be happy to send it to you!)
Anyway, yes, I was upset with the first two doctors at first because 1) like you, I didn't think any doctor could POSSIBLY tell a patient they have bc without a biopsy, and 2) they weren't answering my questions about why I couldn't have an excisional biopsy. But, now I understand why they were so direct with me, and all three of them are EXCELLENT doctors who were doing the best they could to knock it into my head that I have bc when I was being pretty nonchalant about it. I've never said anything bad about them on this forum or elsewhere, so I'm not sure how anyone could think I was slandering them??
-
Oh boy, just for the record, I have reported this topic.
Edit to delete and to add I am so embarrassed I got caught up in this.
-
Perhaps I should call Dr Fine and let him know about his name getting slandered?
Oh goodness... I'm giggling now. Call his office, Advanced Breast Care, and ask for Jennifer. She is awesome too, as is Dr. Fine. They can do a search here for his name and find every reference where I've mentioned how amazing he is, how he answered the questions the other doctors didn't, and how I know I'm in good hands with him. Then I'll wait by the door for the court summons!!
Sorry, I'm actually grateful for this thread because I'm laughing now. (The girl who was calling me Chunky yesterday, I died laughing at that too... yes, I'm chunky right now -- I embrace my chunkiness!
)
Thanks, girls... even the ones who hate me, I appreciate all of you!
-
This is absolutely getting way out of hand........Crunchy I apolgize I am deleting all my posts ...I let Desdemona get the better of me and get my dander up......I did not call or ever will call Dr Fine.....I just got my hackles raised by an immature poster.......I should never have gotten into this assinine argulnet ot start with......Again, Chunky I apologize......
-
I'm right there with you, Sharon. Such a disgrace.
And now I know that Crunchy also has an inverted nipple, which adds even more overt, visible evidence to the diagnosis.
-
Oh Julia -- you don't need to post your private doc report to prove things. Your doc's report is no one's business. Fingers and toes crossed for your biopsy results. I'm sorry you're going through this all. Stick to Otter's thread so you don't have to deal with this.

Pot calling kettle black...

OK. We've all had our moments. We always get over them. Let's stop and just hope for the best for all of us. We're all friends -- disagreements happen. We all have our big girl panties on and can put disagreements to rest. (BTW -- my panties seem to be getting bigger, and bigger....) <--- Injection of humour to calm things down. :-)
Edited to add: I like the big girl pantie phrase and use it when I can. Hope I'm not being too wishy-washy...
-
You got the pantie thing from me last year Elizabeth!
-
A-ha!!!! I knew you were a smarty-panties!! I keep picturing big granny panties!
Edit -- I mean in general, not on you Barbe! :-)
-
On me????
Edit: I was posting as you were editing. Whew! I don't have granny pants, though I want them!
-
LOLOL - whatsamatter with big ole granny panties anyway?? Wait- that should probably be on a different thread.
You're absolutely right, Konakat - thanks for the reminder! And I definitely hope for the best for all of us too.
-
I will happily wear granny pants once I am a granny! Please God, all I want for Christmas is an ultrasound with a grandchild in it....
-
boy - busy couple of days on this thread. I will quote someone else that "I don't have a dog in this fight" (love that saying btw) but the radiologist that did my ultrasound and ordered the biopsy told my Primary Care Physician (who told me) that she was 90% sure that it was cancer due to the suspicious spiculated nature of the mass - or something like that. This was based on the mammagrams and the ultrasound that the radiologist was called in to complete. I was a bit shocked that she told me that before I had even done the biopsy, but I have to say it was a relief to know - even though I had to wait to find out the exact type.
Still hoping that Crunchies is benign!
-
The only thing I have to say about this is whoever wrote the medical report can't spell worth sh*t. Man o man, can you get through medical school not being able to spell or punctuate? I guess maybe so. My 12 year old could have composed a better report when he was 7.
That doctor/secretary/medical transcriptionist should be ashamed off him/herself.
-
The next time Dr. Fine googles himself (which I'm certain he does quite often) he will see his name throughout this forum. I'm sure he will be amused.
-
barbe - don't worry, girl - kona and I will always make sure you get due credit for being the first come up with "big girl panties" - LOL.

Desdemona, I wanted to correct something you said your breast surgeon taught you - a cancerous lump isn't necessarily non-smooth and very asymmetrical. Being irregular does make it more suspicious but a nice smooth round lump can still be cancer. My lump felt very smooth and pretty regular. That may partly be because part of my lump was benign but even a smooth lump should be checked out.
There are lumps that are almost sure to be cancer and then there are lumps that are suspicious in some ways and not in others and some of those are cancer too but a smaller percentage. No one told me after my mammogram and ultrasound that I had cancer because I had a middle of the road lump that might go either way. But the radiologist who did the biopsy was able to point out the features on the lump that were more suspicious for cancer and tell me that he would make sure to sample them.
I did once have a doctor make it pretty clear to me that he thought I had lung cancer. He didn't come out and say it, but his demeanor led me to believe that he was sure. (He was my kid's and my allergy pulmonary guy when they were having asthma and I was having some bronchial issues too so I saw him a lot and knew this wasn't his usual personality.) For instance, there was the hushed tone in which he told me that it was behind my heart in an inoperable position (this was about 20 years ago so I don't know that that would be true today). I spent the next few days waiting for the CAT scan and results thinking I was gonna die. The prognosis on even stage I lung cancer in a non-smoker 20 years ago were pretty awful - 5 year survival was about 5% IIRC.
Fortunately for me, he was wrong. It was a calcium granuloma and harmless so I'm here to tell the tale (and get stage I BC instead which at least has a really good prognosis). Also fortunately, I'm a relatively calm person and didn't do anything drastic while waiting for the result.
The thing that bothered me more than the idea that I might be dead in 5 years was all the awful medical stuff I might have to go through in between. And I did think about refusing that - so I kind of understand where Julie was going but Julie, BC can have a really good outcome with treatment so you shouldn't dismiss it out of hand.
Good luck on your biopsy results.

Julia ... Crunchy .. please edit your post and take down your personal medical report. I'm appalled at BCO. There was a thread awhile ago talking about the "good old days" and I remember someone saying there were bad times in the old days too. Yup, there were .. maybe one or two threads ... but this goes beyond the pale.
With the exception of Kona .. most of the people posting on this thread are pretty new to this site. What a sad reflection of what has become of a site that was once upon a time a wonderful place. My God .. we've even got the moderator's naming names on a thread. Appalling is the only word I can come up with to describe what is going on at BCO now.
DebC is the first one I ever read posting about "big girl panties" years ago. And reading that reminded me of her. Dammit girls .. what the hell would she make of this mess?
Crunchy .. I implore you .. please take down your medical record. It's no ones business.
Be well,
Bren
Edited: Typos .. cause I'm a medical transcriptionist in real life.

I read about "big girl panties" about 30-40 years ago. I didn't say I invented it......
-
It's always hard to get the whole picture when you are hearing one side of the story - no offense to Julia intended, because all of us only see things from our own perspective...
If a doctor is nearly certain that a patient has cancer, and that patient stalls regarding testing and treatment, how should the doctor communicate the seriousness of the situation to the patient?
It's a difficult conundrum for a doctor, I'm thinking.
-
Excellent point, Pill.

I know a cancerous lump can be smooth, and you're right because I may have given the impression that a smooth lump doesn't need checking. ANYTHING you feel in your breast should be checked, that's a certainty. There are many different types of breast cancer and they all present somewhat differently. So, thanks for the clarification/correction.
Someone on this forum said that IDC has no symptoms, which is also rubbish. Certainly you can have IDC with no symptoms, but an inverted nipple and/or a nipple with discharge are two examples of symptoms you may experience if you have IDC.

Hey, girls! Tried to post this last night but I can only post 5 posts a day:
The only thing I have to say about this is whoever wrote the medical report can't spell worth sh*t. Man o man, can you get through medical school not being able to spell or punctuate? I guess maybe so. My 12 year old could have composed a better report when he was 7. That doctor/secretary/medical transcriptionist should be ashamed off him/herself.
I know! I wish I had the electronic version or I would have corrected all that! But, for the record, even though I'm a bit anal about spelling myself, I like bad spellers and punctuators!! (just saying that in case Dr. C's transcriptionist ever finds this online!)
Girls, I'm going to go put on my Chunky Panties and have a glass of something I shouldn't be drinking as a dutiful member of the altie forum! I feel bad for Dr. Fine when he Googles himself and sees himself linked with Chunky Panties... oh well, I guess a breast doctor has seen it all anyway! Thanks for some good laughs tonight... I sorely need them!!
Chunky Crunchy Julia

I think that we've all had very different experiences on this road. I was told by my GP and Radiologist three times that it wasn't cancer. Then the biopsy was "inconclusive". I found the lump in December and only found out after the lumpectomy in February that it was definitely cancer. I don't know whats worse, being told it is cancer and finding out you're OK, or being told by several people that it definitely isn't cancer, and then finding out it is.
Good thing I've had big girl panties for a while. Speaking of which, I better get off this computer and take those big girl panties to the gym.
