Anybody who cares about you would prefer pizza and spending time with a healthy happy you than a gourmet meal with you all frazzled and exhausted.
Go for the pizza!

j414- we have much in common, Hugh Jackman and stomach problems included. LOVE the research, I gotta read... thank you
Christine2K- nice article- pretty much my life!
Mary #2- its nice to be "outed" as a writer here. Happened a while ago. Since the fire, then the IVF, then the baby, then the cancer, I had to put writing aside, and you know, a writer writes... and I am not writing per se, so I am not a writer... except that everyone seems to notice I am anyway
Actually, I got my start in professional writing on a message forum, where I was noticed and asked to write for money... and that's how that story goes. The Rolling Stones stuff comes in bits and bobs... promise... Also sounds like you will join those of us here who watch Top Chef...
PattyB part deux- what kind of seafood y'all have? Multipurpose- YEAH BABY!
I did mention the fire- its how I started sending t-shirts to the troops, because I had about 200 FDNY tshirts in the house when the fire happened, they got sooty, so I couldn't sell them... so I washed them and sent them to the troops... along with enough t shirts to bring the total to 343, the number of firefighters we lost on 9/11. But i sure don't expect anyone to remember what I write in those looooong posts! Especially a group of SFBC patients with varying memory abilities, most of whom are suffering from CRS (Can't Remember Shit). Your boob is a brick because of TEs and fills? I am so stupid about recon. I know, its lucky for me I didn't HAVE to learn but still, I care, I want to learn and hope I never have to use the knowledge. "medicinal brownies" NOW you're talking!!!!!
I have to admit I am quite happy our Yankees won
I'd have been happy for the Phillies too, but...
Oh so that H'ween Cowpoke game was just another game in the season? They can kick ass tonight and be back in the game for championship? YeeHAAAA cowpokes, go get 'em!
Little Red HURRAH for the end of RADS!!!!! You are SO nice to make them brownies.
-
There should be a thread for patients who have problems remembering things after SFBC/Chemo/RADs... except
- everyone would forget where the thread was
- the posts would look like this:
I can't remember what I was going to say
What?
I can't remember what I was going to say
What?
-
Well, I didn't see this thread for a day and a half, then I come back and see - 97 unread posts!!!!!! And then about 4 or 5 more were posted as I was reading. Yup, this is the thread for me - bc sisters who love to talk.
Linda, tell your son I said THANK YOU. And he should heal speedily and completely.
Rachel, I would love to meet your friend and you. If she doesn't have an appt then it would still be good for her to come - all those good vibes, got to be good for her health. I did guess that she was Orthodox when you quoted her email and when she said she was clear she wrote B"H. That stands for Baruch HaShem which means Thank G-d. And NED is definitely a reason for that! We could meet at someplace kosher. I don't know what's around in NY now but I'll ask Rabbi Google for that info, or else maybe your friend will know.
Both my married daughters and their families were here for an overnight visit. It was loads of fun but boy is it quiet here now. The grandchildren are 4 1/2, two age 1 1/2 (cousiins, not twins) and one age 1 month. They are such cutiepies!
DH and I are going away in the morning for 2 days with friends visiting from England. I haven't seen them in about a year and a half, and I'm also looking forward to just a relaxing time with DH since I'm goiing to the States without him (work committments for him. Sigh). Enjoy the rest of the weekend everyone.

Happy Dance for Little Red!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Finished with rads!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rachel, what kind of seafood do we have here in OKLA?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ FROZEN ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
and oh yeah, Red Lobster (that may be redundant, though)
**Well, OK, once in a while, a vendor will come up for a weekend in our town and sell fresh shrimp from the Gulf of Mexico, and Long John Silvers has a not-too-bad Tilapia dinner.
Hey, that "y'all" was nice touch....
**no, we can't win the Big 12 now unless SOMEBODY BEATS TEXAS!! we couldn't do it.
-
Patty B part deux I am really surprised. When I lived in Tucson we had great sushi, although they had to fly it in, they did. I figured they'd do the same in OK, and I know there are some great fishing lakes in AR.
-
Ok, now, critters in lakes in AR do not qualify as "seafood."
Now that I think about it, we used to have a Japanese restaurant here and I'm sure they served sushi. Maybe I should do a little checking and see if they're still around, but then again, I'd want crabcakes and not sushi!
OH YES, I am happy for you about the Yankees winning!! woo-hoo!
The brickhard foob, is yes, because of the TEs, temporary implant filled to almost capacity with saline. You can't imagine how hard this thing is. There's 1,080 ccs right now and I have one more fill left.
-
Patty B part deux- you mean like this:
-
Stopping by to say hello. Only read a bit so far...uh-huh, the four food groups, John vs. Jack, etc When I think Jackman, I think about some major chest hair, and then my mind took a leap and before you know it I'm putting up this pic, with my keyboard hands acting in an almost autonomous fashion:
No, I'm not a Norris fan, but if the claim is true maybe I will be!
-
And excusez-moi but I fished for trout in the White River, caught my limit, cleaned and cooked 'em and they were FABULOUS.
Ya can't get oysters and crawfish from Louisiana?
Crabcakes- that's kinda easy no? They don't have them at Whole Foods/Food Emporium there?
-
and thos 97 posts Leah, 90 of them were pics of Hugh Jackman
-
elimar- oooo ooooo now THERE'S a clinical trial I'd sign up for!
-
OK ladies here's your weekend weather update from where I sit:
It's 40 degrees out and I'm going to bundle up and go to my son's fb playoffs tonight. For me this means, winter boots (maybe footwarmers - raynauds and neuropathy) a warm coat (goes without saying), mittens (definately handwarmers), hat (otherwise my wig feels air-conditioned in the wind) and a blanket (no, I'm not kidding). I stoked myself with homemade chicken soup - yummm - so I feel I will be insulated inside and out. Yes, I know: you should see me in January/February. Can anyone say Bahamas? Why do I live in New England you ask...?
Oh, and I forgot my official (unofficial) red white and black team scarf - GO RAIDERS GO !!
Maybe I should make medicinal brownies and of course, have some medicinal coffee to go with them when I get home - a pound of prevention...
Be good to you -
-
Oh my GOD--stop! Too funny. Loved the Hugh Jackman pics--he is dreamy. Not so much on the Chuck Norris although if his chest hair turns out to be even more effective than broccoli sprouts, he may be useful...still haven't found those darn things. Must write it down as I also suffer from CRS.
You are missing, however, Mr. Super Dreamy--my only real celeb crush--Robert Redford. Yes, I know he is getting up there now but he still looks good...and back in the day--mmmmmm.
Helena--nice to hear from you! We'll toast in your direction tomorrow!
PARTY ON NOCAL GALS!
-
What a thread, great pics, food talk, love your food groups Meg, miss most of them lately!! Alcohol and grease does not agree with me too well lately but had my share of chocolate during our last holiday Haloween!!! I have come to the conclusion that I am alwayas going to be on the big side I just love food!!! Medicinal brownies have never had them but several sibs tell me they are good! Littel Red, never thought of that either. We have lots of great "seafood" her in Michigan, I swapped steak for lake perch earlier this week from one of the guys at work who loves to fish. Panfried them they were wonderful. I just love crabcakes too!! Have tried a few recipes but have not been able to amke any as good ad I can get at a few restaurants so don't try any more. Well time to watch Food Network of course!!! Happy Saturday all.
-
I moved up north, along the coast, to join my husband last December. Guess what? Lots of seafood places here. Guess what again? I dislike seafood! Not so much as a fish stick or a can of tuna will come within nose range.
Did any of you hear about the blue whale that got hit by a boat up here and washed ashore? It was quite sad. They cut it into pieces to dispose of it and the bones will be reassembled some where.
It's actually quite nice to walk along the beach when the whales are migrating and watch the pods. If you watch closely you'll see an occasional one spouting.
We do have a candy shop that sells chocolate whales. That's the type of seafood I'll eat...
Linda
-
Hmmm, chocolate seafoood...I bet it's even kosher.
Leah
-
Rachel (the boob pic), Yes! kind of like that, except my hair isn't that high nor that blond, and I don't have anything pink & fuzzy (well, not that I wear on my boobs, anyway).
Excuse MOI!! I've caught (but my Dad cleaned) plenty of sandbass from Lake Texoma in my day and they were finger-lickin' good......BUT AGAIN......sandbass and trout are not "seafood." And I've bought crabcakes from our local grocery but strongly suspect they were not quite as "fresh" as they would be say, in Maryland. I've also attempted to make them myself from canned crabmeat, (go ahead, laugh all you want) and they were less than spectacular.
There's no way I would have anything to do with Chuck Norris or his chest hair. He's too.....(ahem) redneck for my taste. That's all I'll say about that. Robert Redford? oh yeah. He's fine, even with a few wrinkles! and then there was Paul Newman.....(sigh)
smithlme, very envious of your whale-watching location. How far north is Ft. Bragg? I have relatives in Modesto and Waterford and on several of our visits the most memorable sea creatures I remember were the sea lions overtaking Pier 49 in San Francisco.
-
Looking forward to meeting the NorCA girls!!!! Linda, I go up to Fort Bragg, quite often, and stay at the Beachcomer, their dog friendly. sure wish you could make it tomorrow. Calling all NorCA girls to Rutherford Grill, Rutherford CA, at noon, tomorrow!!! I'll be waiting at the bar, and I'll be the lady with the short chemo hair. I sent PM's to Kari, Lisa, and Allie...see you there.
-
Oh man, Robert Redford and Paul Newman, yummo!! I can't stop eating chocolate chip cookies, I found this recipe for 'healthy' cookies....so I keep shoving them down cause they're 'healthy', really yummy!! We have a good crab cake recipe PattyB from the food guy that was on Queer Eye for the Straight Guy and now hosts Chopped on the Food Network. Really good.
WOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! tomorrow is THE DAY. I have my camera all ready to go. My DH had it packed already for Cabo....thank goodness he told me he had packed it, I wouldn't have known where the heck it was!
Medicinal brownies....never tried those, but have to admit I did partake in the medicinal stuff during chemo....too many tears sitting at the kitchen table and not being able to eat...my DH couldn't take it anymore and we partaked....I was able to finally eat!
Linda, LOVE Ft. Bragg, only been there one time for a friend's wedding in Elk, damn its gorgeous up there!!
ok, have to go and pack Allie and Leggy's cell phone numbers in my purse now so I don't forget, as I also suffer from CRS!!
-
Just got home a little while ago - 2 hours in the cold!! And they lost!! Poor kids - no Superbowl this year!
But they played hard and did their best right up until the end. Lots of heart. Next season...
I have to go to the market tomorrow, so I'm going to look for broc sprouts and see how those are. All this talk of seafood is making me hungry...
NorCAL girls - have a wonderful time!
The whale watching sounds awesome - we sometimes get seals here, but no whales unless we go out into the Bay - then there's dolphins too.
-
My goodness! I am away for a day and all of this fantastic chatter! Let's see . . .how can I catch up quickly?
Leah, when are you coming to the states?
Seafood . .. well here in Florida, fish abound, but I'm not a super fish lover. Do love grouper - when you can get it - it's a very clean white fish and I blacken it and put it over a ceasar salad or make a huge sandwich. I pretty much blacken any fish I'm cooking, just in case I don't like the texture, and we really love blackening spices (blame it all on a trip to 'Nawlins a few years ago - we started making all kinds of cajun foods). But believe it or not, there aren't a lot of little fish places you'd think you would find on the coast - just condos.
Watching the weather here, that Ida is back to a hurricane and they don't know which way it will go. Really? November hurricane??? I just put all of my fall plantings in - petunias, impatiens, all kinds of beautiful flowers. we've got the fire bowl stocked and ready to go. enjoying cider and pretending we're in New England or at least getting a touch of fall. And now have to think about hurricane shutters?? Plus, I have a photo shoot on Wed. that I have been waiting months to have a boat available for. Get the right models. the right location. I put together this fantastic scenario, and now . .. well, we'll probably have to try to reschedule and hope everyone, including the boat, is available for the following week. even if this thing doesn't hit us directly, the wind and waves will be terrible.
stopped at Whole Foods on the way home on Friday - i had to go down south to a dealer in Ft. Lauderdale (boat dealer for those of you who are saying, whoa! for medicinal brownies? I wish!) who was having an event. I don't live near a WF, it's about an hour to the south, where my onc is also located, so any occasion is a good one. had them make me a fresh, wood fired pizza margherita, and bought two jumbo cupcakes, because 1) they were there and looked like magnolia bakery's cupcakes and 2) if it's from whole foods, it has to be healthy!
Gonna go get some coffee now. Good morning.
-
Good morning everyone. I wrote out a nice post and it went poof. Hugs and Blessings for all, Nancy
-
Decaprio in Blood Diamond so sexy with that accent.
-
Chelev, hope Ida turns the other direction!!!
Ok, we're almost outta here!!! YAY!!!!!!!! hope I take some decent pics!! Have a great day all!!
-
OK--let's see what I can do here. Hugh yes, John no--Jennifer Aniston, can't get past that. Chuck no, but this girl loves chest hair--on men. Grew up in Marin County, Nor Cal girls rock! Sea food, I've lived in Boston, SF, and Portland---must be able to buy it or catch fresh.
Oh, Robert and Paul--I wrote my one and only fan letter to Paul Newman when I was 9 after I saw Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid--yes, in the theater during its first run. Was thrilled when weeks later I got a "dreamy" black and white photo back.
YAY Little Red!!!!
OK--here in Portland, it is raining and the sun has left until May. Starting to count the days to my one year....
Happy Sunday!
