...and by the way why do I have to be wearing a towel as well...
-
doesn't it affect which room you'd go to - if all you had was a towel?
-
.......hmmmmnnnn... that is laughing with my mouth closed ( a lot).. I guess it does... suppose I would be too shy if I was all clothed with Hugh, being married and all... BOTH OF US!!!!!!!! I guess just being in a towel with John, well it's just gravity isn't it, shit happens, gravity happens .. you know stuff like that.
-
Helena & Rachel - you 2 are cracking me up! Can I be in a room with both Hugh & John? :>
I had to read at least 4 pages to catch up! That's what I get for working too much day and night... when I'd rather be here!
Kari - My 1st cruise was wonderful! Can't wait to go on another one! I don't even care if the ship leaves the dock. LOL. So glad you going to Cambria. Not sure when I will get there.
NorCal girls - have a great time on Sunday!
hugs
-
OMG Hey Juli50 .. hilarious... you can't be in both.. OR CAN YOU!!! And get the :>
Shouldn't you be in bed too? The bad thing in being from Australia is that I sleep when you are awake and vice versa... like Christmas Elves you are.
hugs
Helena
-
Toooo Funny!!!
HelenaJ and Reachel_BC - way to go, but Juli50 you really got it goin' on!
I finished my rads yesterday - yeah! They loved the brownies!! I was so happy to put a smile on their faces! But, I ran into my ex's mom at the infusion center when she was brining in her friend for treatment. She was always so good to me - gave her a big hug and a big smile - and ran out of there before I lost it in front of her. Kinda put a damper on the celebrating...
My onc told me to try L-carnitine to help with neuropathy - anybody out there doing that?
carollynn79 - I hope you're feeling better soon. I'm getting over a good 2 weeks of 'bug blahs' - it's a real pain.
Salt Fans - one of my favorites is pretzels covered in chocolate - white, dark, or milk - I love the salt and sweet combo. Guess I'm like Juli50 - why settle for just one? (OK, yeah, I know, I'm thinking pretzels and she's thinking...)
Military moms, family, & friends - my heart goes out to you and yours. Lucky for me all my family are all OK and presently stationed in the U.S.
How ARE those cookies coming Rachel?
Be good to you -
-
The real question is would John Mayer be singing? Would he be singing gravity?
Rachel, DH says thanks for clearing that question up, he now has a much better idea what the secret handshake is.
Helena, I'm with you. Don't like sweet stuff, even if it is chocolate, but salt!! During hormonal shifts I could pour handfuls straight out of the shaker.
Little Red, my Onc told me it my not be a bad idea to try carnitine and see if it helps.
-
And the winner is ...Juli... she'd manage to get them both into one room. And also Little Red, as I also am addicted to choc covered pretzels... and choc covered orange peels (Leah knows what I am talking about here) and choc covered matzoh - oh well, let's face it, there's not much I wont eat that is chocolate covered or deep fried.... not that I get to eat much of either these days!
-
Chocolate covered candied orange peel? Now that sounds, like we say in Boston, "wicked good"!!
-
Oh and cookies are progressing... 2 of the gals from this thread writing cards, plus the kids in MN (WHERE IS MEG?) and I got the baggies for all the cookies over to the baker (so the troops have something to distribute the cookies in, and ziploc so the sand wont get in and they can use it for other stuff after) and now I am stressing over the customs forms... shipping date is Nov 30- oh and my (court) trial has been postponed again
-
Rachel:
How did I miss you going to court...? What's that about dare I ask...?
-
Rachel, we can do something at your place - that's fine too. I am staying at a hotel near the Javits, and then will definitely be seeing my sister as well. I think we are heading out to LI on the weekend before I leave, so we'll work it out.
-
Forgot to ask - anybody taking iodine? How much?
Be good to you -
-
Great Skimming - very funny stuff - I like John & Jake.
Lbrewer - My first time on Effexor 37.5 was not good either. Kept me up with stomach issues and I felt Loopy (out of it). I was told to switch to AM and for a about a week I did feel a little loopy with it, quesiness only if I don't eat first. Was also told your body needs to adjust to it. So after a week or 2 I don't notice any SE';s anymore. Still get some HF but not as intense. I am actually going to ask to have my dose increased so maybe HF's will go away totally. Appt. on Wed.
Going to Dupont Hotel today for a wedding. should be really nice. Having my first hair appoint. since shaving in March. Just for curly hair styling tips and maybe shape up. Don't know how to do curls since I have always been a straight gir.
Happy Saturday everyone!!!

Writing this down: salt, grease, chocolate and alcohol. Yes, I think you covered the 4 major food groups. Thank you meg! Well hell girl, of course you'd be missed. There's a cure for that, don't go away! Oh it may be time for me to post my "Emotional Cuisinart" theory. Aside from the hell we know you have been enduring- with great grace btw- its that time of year again... It starts just before Halloween and lasts until 2 days after Valentine's Day. It's the holiday season. Every holiday makes you think of every year you spent on that holiday, and usually the worst ones that happened. By that time if you think about the best times on the holidays, it's hard for this year to measure up. People are missing, and too often shit happens on the holidays- like Helena's SFBC DX was on Halloween, meg's oomph on her bday, my cancer DX was on my mother's birthday, which was also the day she died- fun fun fun! My mom never got over her father dying while dancing on Thanksgiving... and that's just the health stuff... meanwhile everyone is getting drunk on the holidays so there's loads of shit coming from that as well, including the car accidents and deaths from the drunk drivers. Let's not forget the family dynamic. Oprah has covered this phenom well... I personally was taught by a dj in Philadelphia about "OP" holidays. You go to someone ELSE'S family's holiday because you know at your own family's gathering its all about why didn't you get a better job/husband/child/degree/lose or gain weight but if you go to someone else's house THEY'RE JUST GLAD TO SEE YOU, and partially because they know you are not going to ask them why they didn't get a better job/husband/child/degee weight gain or loss... ... For most people it is not ever going to be possible to have the "whole family together" for Thanksgiving, despite trying to travel on the busiest travel day of the year in usually inclement weather with a skeleton staff running the airports because it's their holiday too... because most people have two sets of inlaws, and after trying the dinner at one house and dessert at the other which NEVER works. Let's not even start with the divorced families, and any family plus alcohol is going to bring up all sorts of old crap like your sister who stole your doll... and mommy liked her better... All building up to Christmas, the be-all end-all heartbreaker if you don't have the right toy for the child in your life, or for that matter anyone in your life, and its the end of the year and all the major layoffs happen and the bills are in and you need heat. One day I will tell you what my Christmas before my son was born was like. Talk about pathetic. But you make it to Alcohol Appreciation Day, otherwise known as New Year's Eve... the time when everyone who doesn't normally drink, drinks, drinks to excess, and then drives home. Creating more tragedies to ruin the holidays for everyone in the coming years. Then it's quiet for a bit... you bail your relatives out of jail, return the gifts you can and exchange for stuff you actually need but you keep your head down because you know what's coming.... Valentine's Day. Do I even have to say anything about that day? Who you gonna be with on Valentine's Day? If you have someone, will they do something nice for you and will you do something for them? Then it's avoiding all the people you figure had a better Valentine's Day and still licking your wounds for whatever let you down the next day. But.... February 16... all there is ahead is "President's Day Weekend" and maybe St. Pats but you have clear sailing all the way to Easter/Passover before the angst machine can kick in... and there's crocuses threatening to come up and Spring and all that... Because the Emotional Cuisinart is OVER!!! I try not to make any big decisions during the Emotional Cuisinart, everything is topsy-turvy.
So I say, meg, Lexapro, Xanax, whatever it takes. Belly up to the bar. You've earned it. Like my PCP said to me when I was worried about taking Xanax after DX and during the waiting for tests and stuff- THIS IS WHAT IT'S FOR!
Little Red- oh I just have so much FUN these last years... my home was destroyed in a fire in 2003, a condominium unit in a big building in NYC. (No one was hurt
) The condo board has kept me out -ostensibly to complete the work- for these 6 years, so I live across the street and pay rent while I also pay for my condo. They say now that they finished in 2008, but aside from that still being a ridiculous time frame, the place is full of toxic mold and other toxins, so it's uninhabitable. I am suing them for the expenses for these 6 years, to fix it properly and I'd like some penalties for what they did as well.
A little more for anyone interested... they are not countersuing, because there is nothing to possibly blame me for. Their only defense is technicalities and delays. We filed a motion for summary judgment, which means we ask the judge not to even bother with a trial because its just so obvious, even the defendants admit they didn't finish by their own standards until 2008, and you can see the mold on the walls. The defendants also filed a motion for summary judgment on the technicality. The technicality is that there are laws to protect renters from this shit, but there is no law specifically to protect condo owners. The motions will be decided by Thanksgiving- so right the I might be SOL. Or win. Or the judge may deny both motions and we go to trial. I have been trying to bring this to trial for 3 years. They keep delaying it. This last delay is to wait for the judge to rule on the motions. Fun fun fun!

Who are John and Jake?
-
I personally now HATE Valentines Day - that's the day I was diagnosed!! And before that, it was a sweet day because that's the day my DH proposed (after being run over by a car while riding his bike to work a month earlier - I blamed the proposal on brain damage
- just kidding, but he wasn't wearing a helmet and it could have been a lot worse), but now Valentines Day for me will always be linked to bc and I am boycotting it.
Meg, glad to hear from you - sorry you are having such a crappy time right now. (((((hugs to you))))).
-
Yay! the sun will be shining for the NoCal get together tomorrow and 68 degrees!!
Loved all the posts about John & Jake and salt and the 4 food groups!
Rachel, I just can't believe the nightmare you've been dealing with all these years over that fire...you really do ROCK lady! Loved your post about the emotional cuisinart, you summed it up quite nicely! :>
Helena, glad you finally got rain, but geez, can it come down steadily and spaced out a bit? Not pouring down in buckets with thunder and lightning like some crazy freakin lunatic!!
Linda, sorry about your son and his injuries, but glad he is hooking up riding with other military brothers.
Juli, glad you had a blast on the cruise! Right on!
Hi to all!!
DH is reading about what the weather should be like in Cabo in a couple weeks when we go. Right now its 81 degrees...I sure hope it holds out like that for us!!
-
John and Jack =John and Jack (aka John Mayer and Hugh Jackman). I thought she was talking about John and Kate plus 8...and really getting off topic.
-
THANK YOU benisse... it never occurred to me to call Hugh "Jack". Oy, Jon and Kate...
-
Rachel, I mix the brocc sprouts up in the vitamix b/c it's easier for me to mix and gulp, than it is for me to fit them into a meal every day. My friend (who is a Hippocrates Institute disciple) kind of feels that I would get more benefit from actually chewing them b/c they begin to rapidly oxidize one they are cut/damaged. I did some research on this and it seems that the good chemicals are released when the sprout is damaged (chewed, chopped etc), so I think I may just start shoving an ounce into my mouth every morning!
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11352861http://researchnews.osu.edu/archive/goodbroc.htm
And according to lillie shockney (John Hopkins BC "expert") the recommended dosage is only one ounce per day and the hopkins container has 4 servings. It's a minor amount for a potentially huge benefit. And I always try to get the hopkins brocco sprouts b/c I'm confident they are organic and properly aged. I usually get them at whole foods - when they have them - they usually sell out very quickly. I generally call Union Square or 59th street when I'm running low and if they have them I'll buy 3 containers at a time. When I can't get them at WH, I get a non hopkins, organic brand from my local grocery store. (See question 22) http://www.hopkinsbreastcenter.org/services/ask_expert/index.asp?cat=22
There was another study examining the effect of a daily dose of brocc sprouts on the h pylori germ, which is the germ that causes gastric inflammation, ulcers and some stomach cancer. The study found that people who ate 2 1/2 ounces of brocc sprouts a day (I think for a month) had significantly lower levels of the h pylori germ in their blood and stool. My own personal experience - I started developing some stomach acid issues about 10 years ago and about 2 years ago it got really bad and my doctor gave me protonix. Since I started eating the brocc sprouts I don't need or take the protonix anymore. http://www.nytimes.com/2009/04/14/health/14regi.html?ref=science http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2009/04/090406072915.htm
lbrewer - yep, I eat a lot of white button mushrooms almost every day. I love them and they are also aramoatose inhibiters (aramatose is the protein that makes estrogen). I make white button quesadillas, omlelettes, pasta sauce (sauteed with fresh tomatoes is delish!), throw them into salads, sautee them with spinach - very easy to fit into a daily diet. http://www.cbcrp.org/research/PageGrant.asp?grant_id=3801
Welcome Mary! I try to control the swearing too b/c when I cuss with greater frequency I usually end up doing it at the most inappropriate times!
And congratulations LittleRed on the end of rads!
I'm not attracted to John Mayer - he seems to be bit of a whiner and that just kills it for me. Mr. Jackman, on the other hand, is just fantasitic - he's hot and he seems to be completely in love with his family - for me it doesn't get much than that! My friend lives in the west village and she sees him w/ his kids and wife a lot. I saw him a couple of weeks ago too and he was looking very good!
And I saw Jon Gosselin on the upper west side a couple of weeks ago too - he's short, chubby, balding and he was smoking a cigarette very early in the morning - not at all attractive!
-
Rachel:
I had no idea - how incredible. I hope you get your money and new place soon. To be displaced from a fire and lose your home is awful, but to never be able to resolve it and get on with your life? Go get 'em girl!
I love it - the "Emotional Cuisinart" theory - You are so right about the holidays.
Be good to you -
-
hey all-- love this new thread, thanks for the invite! I saw this article in the NY times on line--just loved this BC survivor's attitude (plus she has a cool name!)

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome.
Rachel, thank you for the links. Now I'm worried. Is the nausea due to Tamox or something else? Can't be pregnant....had my tubes tied years ago. Or am I super-metabolizer of Tamox, and I was lucky to get SEs immediately. Yay me??! I will not be doing any correcting on this or any other thread. I get enough of that from my students. I suspected you were a writer. Only a writer could write such interesting posts: you need to share your Rolling Stones story.
I am having my sister-in-law and her family over for dinner tonight. It is her B day today. So, I am making crab cakes, potato latkes, beef tenderloin with a horseradish crust, baby carrots and brussel sprouts. Considering that I am feelin like cr*p right now, and I haven't started anything yet, I think I am in trouble. I am seriously debating scrapping my menu and orderng pizza. Do you think that would fly?
I am glad that I am not the only one who swears and has a hard time controlling it. I do try...sometimes.
-
covertanjou:
Pizza - Yes - you can put anything on it...
Be good to you -
-
covertanjou, crabcakes are one of my most favorite things, right after chocolate! The only thing is, you don't see them offered all that much around here (OKLA) so when I go somewhere where they're plentiful, I have a hard time choosing between crabcakes and all the other seafood. Your menu sounds daunting -- you must like your SIL very much!
The debate between John and Jack (love those pics!)-- well, I love a guy who can sing, but in this case, I would have to go with Jack because he's so......multipurpose. He can sing, dance, act, or generally just be charming and adorable without even trying. John seems to be a little too moody for my taste but if he told me my body was a wonderland, I'd certainly reconsider.
Rachel, OMG!! had no idea you had gone through a devastating fire. You must be one strong chick!!!
LittleRed, if someone who had been through rads and chemo offered me brownies, would eating them make me feel ~ ~M E L L O W ~ ~ and happy? I'm thinking "medicinal brownies" here...
Think I've got the handshake down now....but let me tell ya', if anyone grabbed my right breast (the foob), they'd think I pad my bras with bricks! Maybe these things soften up after a while....since I have to wait 4 months for my exchange, that should be plenty of time. My MIL asked me today if I was a "C" yet (LOL), and I replied I thought I was now, but had no idea what I'd been when it was all over and done with. I'm so ready for it to be done I'd just about settle for anything at this point.
OK, gotta watch my OSU cowboys play Iowa State now. Hope we don't get embarrassed like we did last week playing Texas.....we're on ABC again so if we screw up, it's all out there.....
-
pkb143:
Oh my...I didn't think of that at all - way too funny!!!!!!!!
-
Mary #2- Oh I am sorry I totally did not mean to make you worry! I was hoping to do the opposite... I noticed I was nauseous BEFORE I took Tamox. I wrote down all the "SE"s I was having during the months BEFORE starting Tamox, so I look at anything that happens now with a critical eye. The stress alone can make you nauseous. By no means do I intend to minimize your symptoms. I was kinda trying to talk you out of feeling bad... with all this documentation and all... probably a stupid idea on my part. I apologize!
Gotta run, nanny is leaving- will catch up the rest asap
-
Oh and definitely - order pizza and like Little Red says, be good to you. Enough with the stress and pressure!
-
I can't keep up with all these posts but the secret handshake for men really made me laugh! Thanks so much!!!!!!!!!!
