    Happy birthday Jeano!! (Sorry I missed it!)

    Just a fly-by to stay caught up.  We had our annual fundraiser auction and dinner at church last night.  I only went up there to get something to eat, and I spent too much money! It was fun, though.

    It's been snowing all day, I haven't gotten out of my jammies and its wonderful.  DH bringing home pizza, got my homework finished today in my new research course, tomorrow I'll work on my sociology.

    I dream of a 'catch up' in Texas..a kind of Australia in AmericaLaughingI felt really good today..it's amazing what two nights sleep in a row, plus sparkling sunshine (at last!) can do for the spirits! I also walked most of my walk on the golf course in BARE FEET today..the fairways are green velvet and feel (and smell!) so nice. I love spring...now that it is here! I roam FB a bit and really must post some new photos..I kind of like the post-chemo cancer-girl-with-new hair profile pic but that was so long ago! Ahhh..It's good to be alive. Speaking of such things...I met my neighbor last night (for the first time in 11  months!) She actually nursed me when I was in intensive care in January last year. She remembers them discovering The Lump when I was in a coma. Fecking feck. Six degrees of separation....LOVE you all XXX

    Had a very busy week....brother flew in from Ottawa and with DH we attacked my moms house and cleared most of it out. It was amazing to see how much STUFF can be packed into one small house, she did live there close to 30 yrs and was a bit of a packrat.!  She also had a bit of an Imelda thing goin on too....found shoes everywhere, ones that had never been worn also. No real surprises..came across a few things that brought a few memories back, lots of old pictures.  Didn't find the treasure I was hoping for...no money in the floor boards or anything Undecided   It wasn't as hard as i thought it would be , it got real easy to throw stuff out !  Just have to do the same with our house.

    Heading off for a skipping road trip tomorrw, over to Vancouver.  Hoping for good weather but will probablly hit some snow on the passes....I really hate driving in the winter !

    Rock- I am a Registered Nurse with an Associates Degree.  23 years after graduation I have once again stepped into the academic world by enrolling with Regis University in the RN-BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing) program.  My courses are online, 8 weeks in length.  The first began Aug. 24 (Professional Role Development), the 2nd began Monday of this week (Introduction to Nursing Research - Evidence Based Practice).  I ended the 1st class with a 98%!!!!!!!!!  There are 10 nursing courses, I think I'll be able to complete the program in 2 years.  As for the sociology course - it is one of 7 modules I will complete through the college network.  They provide the student with the study materials that prepare for testing out of the course and recieving college equivalency credits. Testing is DANTES or CLEP.  The author of the study materials for sociology is Kevin D. Everett, associate professor at Radford University.

    So that was a long answer to your question...

    Angels - I hear you about Mom+packrat+small house.  My folks should be in a senior living apartment at the very least, they were looking at apartments, Mom didn't like any of them but did a lot of purging in their small home.  Well, they (she) decided they would stay in their home.  The purging has stopped and the spending has begun again.  Keep in mind she had 2 stokes that have impaired her in many ways But she can still pick up the phone to order from catologs!  My poor Dad, handicapped himself after a massive stroke in 1986, keeps cancelling the catalogs, Mom keeps ordering and the cycle repeats itself.

    Glad you had your brother to help you with the job.  What an accomplishment!  Too bad ya didn't find money stashed under the mattress.

    Otter- 81 degrees huh? I am happy for you.  The melt off began today.  The wild thing is we live 10 miles NE of Colorado Springs, about 500 feet higher in elevation, enough to make a world of difference.  Many times we will have blizzard like conditions or heavy snow fall but the city will be minimally impacted. 10 miles away but a different world in the winter.  There has been a rare halloween without snow since I moved here in 1982.  So I always expect it by Oct. 31 but come on - 2 wintery blasts before that date.  NO NO NO NO NO.  HaHa - as if I have control over the weather.

    Today I had a follow up appointment with my plastic surgeon.  Restoration scheduled for Jan. 11, 2010.  Odd to think I am excited about surgery but I am looking forward to this!  The expander is taking some getting used to, it's stiff, way too perky - in fact I have to hike the other side of my bra much higher than normal AND pad it to match.  This is not a complaint - just the way it is.

    Jen- DH and I went to Cracker Barrell for breakfast today, fondly recalled our meeting at a Cracker Barrell.  Hope it works out for you and Jean to get together while she's in Columbus.

    What can't I do?  Well, to paraphrase a wonderful BCO sister from the Stage IV forum, it seems I could be locked in an empty room by myself and still not manage to stay out of trouble.  I won't drag that mess over here, though.  I just need to learn to keep my mouth shut.

    rock, you asked about borrowing things for your blog.  Please, please, feel free to borrow anything, anytime, for use anywhere, with no obligation to reimburse.  Please.  You are my sister, after all.  I don't think my clothes or shoes would fit you, and they especially would not suit you.  But, if you wanted those, you could have them, too.

    I owe all of you nearly all of the comfort and sanity I've retained since early 2008. I love you all, very much.

    I'm with Cris, just regular stuff happening.  Still don't have Halloween decorations up yet and weather has been nasty so will try to go to a pumpkin patch or orchard tomorrow.

    Otter - thanks for our science lesson a few posts back.  I try not to put to much thought into some of the info that is out there, but they always manage to put a little doubt in my mind about the choices I made and felt good about at the time.  The sister of the woman who does our hair found out that she has bc.  My whole experience passes before my eyes any time I found out someone new has it.  I gave her my input and I think it helped the sister.  My dentist's MIL is going through chemo and my dh chatted with him about it this week at the dentist.  I guess we are all ambassadors in a strange warped way.

    Kerry - so glad you are springing on to spring.  We've had rain at the end of the last two weeks and it's been getting cooler.  The trees are really pretty, even if they are all on the ground because of the rain.

    Robin -  I so admire you for going back to school and for doing so well with your first course.  You go, girl!

    We had parent teacher conferences this week and both girls did great the first quarter.  My Riley was labeled as "shy" and "quiet" by her teacher.  I had to look at the papers to make sure we were discussing the right student.  Katie is a delight to have in class.  It makes me feel so good to hear nice things about them and to know that they received good grades at the same time.  Katie will probably be able to take Honors English next year when she gets to High School.

    It's crazy here.  We're trying to finalize the Halloween costumes for next weekend then we have 2 weekends of birthdays and parties.  Not ready for those yet.

    I'm so happy to hear about walking, mowers, feeling good, spring, melty snow, warm weather, trips away from home and uneventful house cleanings.

    I may not post a lot, but read and think of you all every day.  I go around the world with my thoughts.  I have a little map in my head and know where you all are.  Perfect little map push pins that string us all together.

    Hi women one and all. It is a joy to read all of your postings. I love that our lives are full of such "normal" stuff. I want this board to be kind of boring and comforting and delightful in a way I can't really explain...not that I don't want us to lead exciting and adventure-filled lives but I want them to be exciting and adventure-filled sans any health issues except constant checkmarks for bill of clean health. Lots going on in this family, but I haven't posted so much in any spots...too busy but good busy. Our older son got his driver's license and that is very fun for him. We are paying new insurance fees as all of you who have had kids this age do. He was also just accepted into the Amigos program which means he will spend 6-8 weeks in a Latin American country this summer living with a family and in total immersion Spanish and volunteer mode. He will go with one other American student (one he won't know from a different part of the U.S.) and, together, they will work on a project for the summer. He is excited but a bit nervous and what he really, really wants to do is go back to his summer camp to be a Counselor in Training, but he knows this is stepping outside of the comfort mode and he knows it'll, likely, broaden his horizons. Our other son, Adam, is just completing his creepy play, the Ray Bradbury one -- The Veldt. Today is the last performance. It has been a good run. We had five Oregon family members up for the weekend which is one reason I am here...just stalling before flipping four sets of sheets and picking up matresses around the house. We are also preparing, now, for Adam's bar mitzvah which is in January. We sent out our first round of invitations (the ones to out of towners) and we'll send out in town one in a few weeks. We give the out of towners a chance to reserve rooms at IslandWood, a lovely place on Bainbridge Island where we are having the bar mitzvah, before letting our in-town friends and family reserve. We have much to do and I am happy happy happy to not be going to doctors every week. This is the longest I have gone without an oncologist visit since April of 2008 and I love that. My weight-loss program continues but slowly....I have 12 down and 8 to go. I am thinking of you one and all....so all is well. I will head over to the pink page though it is my custom to stay on this page only. :)  Love to all of you.

    Morning Ladies,

    Got back last night from our weekend skipping camp, had a bit of a nasty ride home. Rained the whole way but we did hit snow going over the pass, that was quite scary. A car had flipped over in the ditch and we had to just creep along for close to an hour. But was glad we drove yesterday as today it is dumping snow outside my window right now and it would of been worse today !  I must admit now that i am safely tucked away inside.....it is really pretty outside !

    Ok ...help me out here......what is the pink thread ?  I need to check this out !

    Angels- glad you made it home safely.  I understand the treaterous nature of mountain passes in the winter (and it's only fall).

    Angels - glad that you made it home safely. 

    Just passing through after my evening session of yoga - which kicked my butt tonight.  I enrolled in a community ed class about 6 weeks ago.  Tamox is laughing at it all - cramping me up throughout the entire night.  My toes curl, hands, hips, legs . . you name it.  The instructor saw my foot curl - toes in every direction and instructed me to drink more water.  Funny.

    Hey all - Linda is running the NYC marathon on Sunday (November 1st).  Wish her good luck.

    Jeano, that is hilarious! My masseur insisted that I have GOUT because I went through the roof when he yanked on my...hold on..'.massaged' that particular 'reflexiology point'. Thanks, femara.  Otter, Rock was right..I actually had tears to wipe at the end of your 'pink' contribution. I'm LESS tolerant of this shite this year. A cure my a$$. Here in Australia we now have kids walking around at school..well everywhere actually, with cans of caffeine drinks glued to one hand and a phone glued to the other. Some of those drinks contain 8 tsp of sugar, plus enough man-made chemicals to light up a Christmas tree. Cancer-avalanches in 30 years. Mark my words. All the money raised should go to women like us who are broke for the next couple of years after being through 'treatment', and to lobbyists who will work their a$$es off to get poisons banned from our food, water and air. Farks sakes!!! I'm still on it. It's not that I'm not grateful, because I AM. I'm actually in AWE of what we have been through. I just can't stomach the hypocrisy of the commercial sector.  Lucky the May 08ers have enough love (and humor!) to smooth the seas (and the grumpy Australians). XXX

    My kid is going to school tomorrow as the Dali Lama...he is dressing completely like Dolly Parton with a llama on his shoulder. He is too funny. He makes a good Dolly. The wig is and balloon boobs definitely make it good. Will post photos if we get any. Love you all.

    I saw the Dolly Llama photos on FB, and loved them!  The Westermans are such a creative bunch, you knock my socks off.  (And speaking of creative . . . I saw some great costumes at the Halloween parade in Eric's neighborhood in Brooklyn, though probably not as creative as at the wild and raunchy Halloween parade in the Village, which I didn't go to because last night was an early night on account of my 5:45 a.m. bus to get to the start of the NYC MARATHON!!!!)

    My race report?

    Well, the most important thing to know is that you all ran the first 19 miles of the course with me - the back of my shirt paid tribute to our group - and had a great time.  The crowds, always amazing, were cheering us on.  I (not you guys) dropped out of the race a little after 19 miles, when it became clear that my injured foot was acting up again.  But I'm pretty sure you all are honorary finishers anyway.
