I just read Suzanne Somers has a new book coming out with interviews with innovative cancer treatment doctors. I think it comes out Oct 20th. I hope it puts all the stuff we talk about in one place so we can easily reference the information. - anom

ABOUT THIS BOOK
In Knockout, Suzanne Somers interviews doctors who are successfully using the most innovative cancer treatments-treatments that build up the body rather than tear it down. Somers herself has stared cancer in the face, and a decade later she has conquered her fear and has emerged confident with the path she's chosen.
Now she shares her personal choices and outlines an array of options from doctors across the country:
EFFECTIVE ALTERNATIVE TREATMENTS- without chemotherapy
- without radiation
- sometimes, even without surgery
INTEGRATIVE PROTOCOLS- combining standard treatments with therapies that build up the immune system
METHODS FOR MANAGING CANCER- outlining ways to truly live with the diease
-
Does she go into her surgery and radiation treatment that she got for her cancer?
-
Already pre-ordered it. Thanks, Anom

OMG. I got the book this morning.
Suzanne Somers was diagnosed with "full body cancer" less than a year ago when she couldn't breathe and was sent to the hospital.
I won't spoil the story for you. Get the book.
This book isn't just for cancer patients. It's quite a bombshell.

shut up!!!!!!!! oh my goodness, I have to get the book!!

Wow! I can't wait to read it!! As soon as I can get my fat @ss off the coach and out the door.
-
I'm curious--tell me what is "full body cancer"--mets in bones, lung, liver, brain?
And so, does this mean her alternative cures didn't work after all?
Seriously, I'm now slamming her--I really want to know. Guess I'll have to read the book, unless someone wants to put a "spoiler" note here!
Anne

I just talked to a friend who saw her recently on a talk show (she doesn't remember which one) but said she didn't recognize her, she had gained a lot of weight and didn't look too good.....Anom, spoiler please!! just PM me if you don't want to post!

-
Your killing me!!! I found these two links online which outline the book but only say that Suzanne has been cancer free for 10 years! Nothing about her cancer returning.

SPOILER ALERT
Okay, you guys have wormed it out of me! She was taken to the hospital unable to breathe. She was given CT scans etc. An oncologist told her the cancer had spread to her lungs and the rest of her body.
REALLY, you have to read the words and you will grow faint. They wanted to give her massive chemotherapy. She refused. She kept saying, "either I have a serious allergy or I was poisoned."
Then after she calls all her family and friends around her and her husband is crying...the infectious disease docs decide it's not cancer but think she has either tuberculosis or leprosy or something else...they need to culture.
wait...
wait...
still waiting?
Are
you
ready?
Turns out it was an air-borne fungus (Valley fever?) probably from hiking in a place known for this.
If she had not kicked and screamed and listened to her friend who thought (from the Internet) that it was this fungus, she would have undergone chemo and it would never have addressed the fungus.
The story is much better than I have told it and the book goes on to interview various alternative cancer doctors.
Turns out the hospital never looked at her CBC bloodwork from when she was admitted or it would have flagged this was a non cancer event!
If this can happen to the most famous health advocate of our time, what chance do the rest of us have?

Thank you for the spoiler! Since I'm reading "Breakthrough" right now and absorbing every single word, I would be totally dismayed if she had cancer!
-
Whew and WOW. I am about to start Breakthrough and look forward to reading Knockout. Spoilers can be good too!
-
Whew and WOW is right!!!!! I was a worried for her, bless her flippin heart!! Can't wait to read it, thanks Anom..........

SS will be on ShopNBC live tonight & all weekend long, actually.
I am looking forward to seeing her. I do not get the channel on my TV but I can watch on my computer. 11pm-1am central time, you guys will have to work that out for your time zones if you want to get a live look at her.
Just thought I'd let you know.

-
I love her. She freaks out my oncologist, but that is because SS is putting controversial info out there. At least she asks the big questions!
-
<
You will appreciate the huge amount of information from the docors. This book is even more important to later-staged patients. If we can only get them not to make up their minds before they see the information.
There's a lot of misinformation going on because they maintain this conception "natual" means just eating veggies. That couldn't be less true. There are so many alt med big guns.
Even when people's lives depend on it, they feel more comfortable with their own prejudice than getting facts. Why is fact-finding so hard????? The stakes are life or death. This no time to skip over information.

Okay, Anom, now you have my curiosity piqued. I guess I will have to add another book to may stack. My DH is beginning to think I should open a health book resale shop! LOL But I love getting the information from books more than any other source, because you always get the full story, not the 5 minute soundbites most people get from the news. Love your new avatar-you are always watching keeping an eye on things around here, that is for sure!

I have not read Breakthrough but am intrigued by a few interviews I have seen the last 2 weeks about her new book. Can someone tell me the jist of Breakthrough and weather it is worth the read. Is it about her supplements and Biodentical hormone use? She has so much stuff out there I cant keep it straight. She must have an army of researchers helping her too!
She is going to be on Larry King tonight too if anyone did not know and is interested in watching.
-
Just saw SS on Larry King and I thought she held her own. She humbly apologized for her statement about Patrick Swayze, and I can understand exactly what she meant because Imy friend just lost her Dad this week to lung cancer. After his first round of chemo, I told her to get him into a nutrition and supplement program, but he refused. I even offered to take him to a famous integrative center near us that might have helped. When his cancer came back, they wanted to give him more chemo. I read the stats and I told her it would kill him. She said her Dad wanted to live and did the chemo. It did not prolong his life, it shortened it. I truly believe he would of had more time if he had tried alternatives after the first round. Sadly they send patients home with no nutrition plan and no plan to rebuild the immune system. That is why the cancer comes back. As SS said at the end of the show, it would be great if doctor from both sides would be more willing to integrate the treatments. It should not be either/or. They should be told about both standard of care and alternatives. If the immune system is built up, it can fight off free radicals and recover. It just makes me so mad that there has to be a fight about all of this. Why does main stream medicine denounce anyone who tries a different route. Why can't they do both?
Chrissy-as for the book Breakthrough- I thought it was a great book. I could not put it down. She interviewed doctors and talked about all aspects of aging and what happens to our bodies. I learned a lot about being proactive in my health, that has been reinforced by other books I have read too. I am looking forward to reading her new one too.
I really admire SS for being so passionate about taking a stance, in spite of all the hate that she has endured. I bet those doctors who misdiagnosed her cancer were gloating. And if she seems to feel that she was poisoned, I would not doubt it. People seem to want to go to great lengths to discredit her.

Anom, I saw others accusing you of not really having bc on another thread. Since we are not allowed to respond there, I will do so here. To be honest, I do not give a da-- if you never had bc, though I do believe you have. What I am thankful for is that you have continued to show up here with all your fine research and backup every statement you have made. You have helped many of us to continue on a path of alternative treatments, with confidence and helped us to make informed decisions. Like SS I think you are very brave to put up with all the animosity because you want to help others. I just want to tell you again. THANKS!
-
Hello to all ...I am new here. I want to wish you all well as you go through this journey with breast cancer. I myself happen to be an ovarian cancer survivor going on 14 years now and a stage 4 . No recurrence to date. I watched the Larry King Live show with Suzanne Somers tonite. My only hope is that maybe the medical treatments can some how work with the alternative treatments. It is so emotional I believe. Such a struggle to get through it all. I hpe and pray you all do not mind me posting here as I feel we all need to support one another in this cancer stuff. I hope for a cure some day soon. I wish yiu all well ladies and hope you doin't mind if I pop in and say hello now and again. I manage an ovarian cancer support board and try to spread hope and encouragement to all. It gets us through and with a little humor as well. Be well and take care of you, Jan
-
Hi Jan! Welcome! Wow, 14 years, that is so awesome! Thanks for popping in!

Welcome Jan, what is the link to your board. I would love to check it out. Always looking for new insight.

anomdenent - what exactly is your connection with the pubisher? It sounds like you are a puppet of Suzanne Somers and that you have a vested interest in selling her book.
For all those out there with breast cancer - the last thing that you need is some quackadoo spouting garbage. Exactly what is "Full-body" cancer? I've heard of "full-body flavor" in my coffee, but myself, and it seems everyone else on the earth hasn't heard of this condition.
From what I have read SS had "breast cancer" (IDC or DCIS unknown) about 10 years ago and "refused chemotherapy". Well, come on! For many breast cancers, specifically DCIS, there is no recommended chemotherapy because there is no nodal involvement, and no spread of the cancer beyond the single lump that was found and surgically removed, therefore chemo would not really do anything (ie. chemo is designed to kill all of the known and unknown cancer cells that have moved beyond the initial site.)
My recommendation is to take the advice of your board-certified doctor, and not celebrity quacks that don't know what they are talking about, and have only to gain by selling a book regardless of the truth of the message contained within it.
You may not like what your doctor is telling you (because who really wants to hear that they have cancer, or that it's not going to be easy to cure, or that it may lead to your death) but what the doctor is saying is based on peer-reviewed, published studies with published data that you may inspect for yourself and decide about your own treatment.
If you've pre-ordeded it, cancel your order. If you haven't seen it, don't waste your time If you want some information to read that will really inform you, go to a university library and read one of the many Journals of Oncology. If you can't get through a peer-review journal, then listen to your doctor and forget Somers even exists.

<
Keith,
What is my relationship to Somers' publisher, you ask?
Here is full disclosure of my relationship. I have called for the book, KNOCKOUT, to be published free online. I guess you could say the publisher considers me their mortal enemy to suggest they give away their intellectual property.
I can see from your letter that you too are making recommendations not to read the book without ever reading it yourself. Doesn't this embarrass you at all? Do you even know the book is an anthology of interviews?

To Everyone,
I thought this was a safe place to express our views. It is obvious that it is not. This is the thread for alternative treatments. If one of us likes a book and another doesn't, SO WHAT! I am always looking for new ideas to get the best possible treatment. Some of what I have seen posted makes sense to me and some doesn't. However, I would NEVER show disrespect to anyone who did not agree with me. We are in this together. Let's be kind to each other and keep the productive conversations going.
Roseann
-
Amen Roseann, and we do not need more people telling us to listen to our doctors. We have brains and can make up our own minds. BTW, who are you Keith? Sounds like you have vested interest in the medical profession. Maybe you are afraid that SS will take away your business?
-
I'm curious about Keith, too. All are welcome here but I have never seen him on any other threads.
Keith, do you or someone you love have breast cancer? I don't agree with your view or hostility but you are certainly welcome to join the conversation.
Roseann
-
Keith, you obviously don't understand the intent of this thread or section of the website.
My question to you is what is your real issue? You are very misinformed (Suzanne did not have primary DCIS, she had a 2.4 cm IDC, ER positive). The fact that you are so misinformed and defensive makes me think you have a hidden agenda.
It is time to shake up the established protocols....too many of our sisters are not receiving real benefit from the "tossing the spagetti at the cancer wall and see if it sticks" method.
Suzanne is not asking us to forsake what mainstream medicine is offering--she is asking us to be more open minded and look at the motivation behind why so many non-patentable methodologies are being dismissed at the expense of our well being and survival.
Sorry Keith, but the Genie is out of the bottle....
-
Oh, and one more thing, Keith. Please abstain from such knee jerk reactions like accusing our beloved forum member, Anomdenet, from having any ulterior motives. I, for one, cherish her opinion and sharing of information.
