Since this is a place of experienced mast gals, give me some advice....please I'm 5 days out from my surgery and this is the 1st day I've felt really crummy.  the chest is tight and feels constricted.is that normal?  I've had drain problems and was told by the surgeon's nurse "you'll have this"  which means I got online instructions for changing the wet drsg where the tubes had leaked. and yes, I'm "milking/stripping the tubes.  its a nuisance I wasn't prepared for....so am I weird?  feeling stressed. thanks for any comments

    arby,

Sorry things are feeling worse at the moment. The drains can be a real source of discomfort and you may find it makes a huge difference once they're removed. I did. I'm not sure about what to do for the tightness at this point. I felt like I had a band around me during the early post-surgery period. When you're more healed, stretching and physical therapy can help ease tightness and release adhesions (scar tissue that adheres to the chest wall). Those things worked for me. Ask your breast surgeon about what types of stretching you can/should be doing at this point.

I also experienced extreme skin sensitivity starting about a week after surgery and lasting for about 3-4 weeks. Most likely it was nerves regenerating. Many women get this, so don't be too alarmed if you feel some skin sensitivity. Mine went away completely after about a month.

    Dear ARby.

Like ERica said please get some stretching exercises, it does get better, and everyone you talk to will say they loved their drains...NOT.. please take care and rest when you can

Though years have gone by I still remember the pain and tightness I felt after radical masectomy. My doctor advised me to comb my hair as much as possible .. reaching every part of head and it sort of worked until the hair lasted. Take care and get well soon Arby

The best exercise I had was a little pulley over the door, and a rope or line through it with something to grab onto at the ends...just sit there with it in both hands and go up and down and up and down..

    ((((Arby))))

Of everything I went through, those dreaded drains seemed to be about the worst. I could hardly wait to get them out. They relly are neccesary, as much as we hate them we wouldn't want all that yuk inside us.

I was referred to Physical Therapy and that really helped, she also gave me exercises to do at home. It made a world of difference. Hang in there, it does get better..........

    ((((MB))))

Great thing that you're doing, I had recon, but my Mom didn't I'll check with her and others to see if I can get my hands on any to help out.

    Blessings,

    Hi purplemd:

I have quite a few scarves I have that I never used, and I also have 3 wigs which are in excellent condition and I also purchased a brand new package with a wig shampoo, conditioner, hair spray and a wig brush that I never used. (still in the container).   I can send them to you, if you think they'd be of any use to anyone?  Let me know, okay.  I love in Canada but I'm close to the US border so it's not a problem to go over and mail them to you.  Maybe someone can use them, or are you just looking for forms?

I never used a form...as I only wore the one they gave me from the hospital the day I was discharged and I just kept wearing it inside my regular bra.  I'm also have my other breast removed next month..and I'm looking forward to that.

That's one good idea you have going there!  :)

    this one is going there)

I am new to the entire world but KNOW for sure I am NOT doing reconstruction so I landed here in the topic- this idea is GREAT!

I need to know some technical stuff.

    1) how to put a topic in my favorites

    2) how to PM.

I am a 38D- working with 1000 firefighters and an probably having a double mx w/o recon. (too much surgery for me and at age 56)- my plan is to buy the BIGGEST DOLLY PARTON HAIR ever-

    it will accomplish 2 things

     1) I am the only one in my family with limp, straight, fine hair- always wanted BIG hair, and

     2) if my hair is BIG ENOUGH maybe no one will notice the D's missing Laughing

    It is a great idea.

Here (europe), the store where I bought the form happily took it back when I brought it there, so tat it can be used by ladies not being so well covered by ins. I believe in eastern Eu.

Hi, thanks for the encouragement right after my surgery.  My dog can attest to the fact that the arm use has returned 100% !  Its amazing how I can throw a ball and pick apples up high and I could probably wash windows if I weren't so lazy!   I am in chemo mode now and cleaning hair out of my comb.....sorta wondering how many days til I need to make an appt to have my head shaved.  I will be Kojack for Halloween.  Hope someone is making good use of the forms you've been collecting.  I've sewed pockets into bras and still am dissatisfied with the lack of symmetry.  or that one boob is flying higher than the REAL one!  It's good for a laugh but not so good for sweater weather coming up.  I'll need to invest in some busy patterned sweaters like the argyles they're showing.  Grace and peace to all of you. arby    ps.  do expensive prosthesis actually fit the body like a mold?  Anyone care to share how the heck you get symmetry when the breast area has been hollowed out/ scooped out.  nothing rides naturally over that side.

Are you still taking forms, scarves, etc?  Where to send?  Also how about little used wigs?

Can someone out there help. I am a African American looking for a company who supplies breast forms for us who don't have tan or beige skin tones- I'd like to have one closer to my skin tone. Anyone know of a company who supplies??

Arby, I feel your pain. I have a great breast form, but now am wanting one that matches my skin tone better. I've looked all over, and have not found a company that supplies the right color. Seems all are "tan or beige". You probably should try a weighted form. Mine is heavy in the bra, but when it's on, I don't feel it at all and it really matches my other breast. The lady who fit me was great, (Cancer Treatment Centers of America-Tulsa OK), so I know there's hope for you too!!

    Blessings!

    Hi MB

Since I can't knit, I started crocheting forms, but quit when I figured they'd be too bumpy to ever wear.  Do you knit the forms to sell and if so, can you let me/us know what sizes, colors, cost, etc?

    Thanks!

I have several breast forms (minimal use) somewhere in the size of 38b/c.

Let me know if anybody needs them and where to send it. Or may be you know the organizations where I can mail them. I left messages to the several bc organizations, but nobody ever returned my calls.

    Hi JR,

This might not be any help but I did SEE them on here when I was searching for breast forms. Maybe if you type "african-american mastectomy breast forms"  in the search box.

I do know this much that they are out there because I saw them.

Have you checked TLC (a part of American Cancer Society)?  I am seeing light and dark colors.

    http://www.tlcdirect.org/subcategory/AmericanCancerSocietySiliconeBreastForms.html?

    I hope that this helps.
