Michele - glad it went OK today. Today seems like a good day for lots of kiddy TV - how is your daughter doing?

Jaimie - shopping was great yesterday - got me a perky new foobie, ma couple of bras, one is even pretty sexy ( they don't even need pockets in them, just regular bras) and a swimsuit! they are sewing a "Cookie" into the cup of a regular swimsuit, you wouldn't even know it is fake. so, all in all a good day. And, even better,  insurance will pay for all but the swimsuit!  Are you on Facebook?? If not, you should sign up....

Well, Jack had his first day yesterday and seemed to love it! Going to bake cookies this afternoon, and if i have time get into the garden. i am such a housewife!! The weather has been so amazing here these last few weeks, long may it last!

The thing they are sewing into my bathing suit is just a little poofy thing like a shoulder pad, I am now only a B cup, if that, so it doesn't take much. (I was breastfeeding before Dx, so wasn't sure what my real size was anymore - I was either preggers or breastfeeding since 2003!) It cost about $9. Do you have any lingerie stores close by, they would probably have something for you. My little fiber-filled one was from the canadian cancer Society and was free - maybe the American one can help you out there too.

Kerry I an on facebook under Jaimie Hurst. ;)

Apple- ouch! Ours went up a ton 3000 but we have no choice and the hmo option was a stinky one so we will have to pay for it :(

I am upset my laptop will be gone for the weekend and maybe until mind week next week ;( My fan went up and my ctrl key fell off. I guess that is what happens when you use something so much. Please excuse all spelling I am on my blackberry (my new toy). Foobs still open....I am just about done with them .... Tired of not staying healed and no one can give me an answer why. 17 days until we leave for Florida and 23 until we go to Disney. I just want to go without holes too worry about.

Furies ~ I got my prostheses and bras yesterday; they are awesome!  I can't believe how normal I feel sitting here wearing a real bra.  (I've been getting by with the post-surgical cami and puffies.)  The weight of the foobies feels so real and, well, NORMAL!

Michele ~ Thanks for the update on Webbie.  Glad you're still flu free!

Kerry ~ Sounds like you had a great shopping trip!

(((Jamie)))  I know you're worn out with all this business of not healing properly.  I'm so sorry.

    Hugs to all,
    Artemis

    i am soooooo  mean.

I had relatives drop in unexpectedly.. my sis in law and her daughter. They are grossly (350+) obese and always happen to make it in time for dinner.

    I have invited them obligatorily.

    On the menu:

    tofu salad
    quinoa with lima beans
    cole slaw
    corn on the cob
chicken breasts - skinless of course
pickled beets (those are from my sis in law, she gave them to me.  she cans them but 'doesn't eat them things' herself.

    bwa ha ha ha

I was going to get my foobies, but I have heard that insurance co's only pay for one, and I had a bilat, so I never bothered trying.....maybe I will.  A nice woman on this site donated a pair to me, but they are a bit big for me, and my mast bra isn't the best quality, so they tend to sag down, lol.

I had a terrible morning....son's first day, I should've been up to help him get ready, but I was struck by a bout of vertigo....I've never experienced that before.  I noticed in bed last night that if I moved, I felt like I was swaying and got nauseous, so I went to sleep.  Got up this morning, it was still there, I threw up like 5 or 6 times.....DD and DH got son off to school....I went back to sleep until 11am, and felt better.  I have had nausea all day though.

So now I have to go see my onc on Tues, she wants to schedule an MRI, "just to be safe" she says.  Great.  Of course, vertigo can happen for many reasons, including hormone loss from menopause, dehydration, and being sick.  So I am trying not to worry.

Michele:  I'm glad you're doing ok, did they take all 4 wisdom teeth?  I had all 4 done at once, not a great idea!

Jaimie:  I will friend you on facebook!  I'm sorry you're still not healing : (

Artemis:  I went from wearing foam foobs to the donated silicone ones, and felt the same way at first....but have come to realize that they are too big for me, and thus too heavy, so I really need to downgrade in size.  I think these things are a full B or small C....I was a full A/small B so it's just not working for me.

I'm off to farm for a while.  haven't really left my bed all day, been doing too much lately so I'm resting.  We did finish painting son's room...he's still on the couch, but we should have him moved back in this weekend.  His first day at Middle School went good, thank goodness, I was worried all day!

    Hugs

    Judy

Your not mean Apple they are mean for coming and staying for dinner without an invite.

I had to come here and tell you ladies about the kidney doctor that I got rid of called me last night but I wasn't home.  I called and canceled my surgery date on Monday (yeah I used the holiday to my advantage) and he called all concerned.  His coordinator had called during the day but I wasn't wasting my time with her but I was very surprised to here him call.  He left me a message because we were not home.  I would love to give him the reasons that I left his care....muahhhh....

I will be off tomorrow morning to the PS again :(  Stupid foobs.  Nothing really going on with them but they haven't changed for the good or the bad.  So going to get them checked out tomorrow morning.  Hoping she will just tape them back up and they will heal but who knows.

    http://chetday.com/quinoa.html

Quinoa is a grain.. a seed really, that is super nutritious.  I am trying to introduce it into my family's diet.  so far, they don't love it.  I'm going to try and bake it into some breads this winter.  (we don't use our oven in the summer except for birthday cakes (3))

it's pretty good, but it has a weird texture.. i guess I'm just not used to it.

    --------------------------------------------------------------

"The grain itself is soft and delicate and the tail is crunchy which creates and interesting texture combination and pleasant "crunch" when eating the grain. Quinoa has a fluffy consistency and a mild, delicate, slightly nutty flavor that borders on bland. The leaves of the Goosefoot (quinoa) plant are also edible and make a pleasant vegetable, like spinach. A quinoa leaf salad is generally more nutritious that most green salads.

Before cooking, the seeds must be rinsed to remove their bitter resin-like coating, which is called saponin. Quinoa is rinsed before it is packaged and sold, but it is best to rinse again at home before use to remove any of the powdery residue that may remain on the seeds. The presence of saponin is obvious by the production of a soapy looking "suds" when the seeds are swished in water. Placing quinoa in a strainer and rinsing thoroughly with water easily washes the saponin from the seeds. In South America the saponin which is removed from the quinoa is used as detergent for washing clothes and as an antiseptic to promote healing of skin injuries.

The quinoa seed is high in protein, calcium and iron, a relatively good source of vitamin E and several of the B vitamins. It contains an almost perfect balance of all eight essential amino acids needed for tissue development in humans. It is exceptionally high in lysine, cystine and methionine-amino acids typically low in other grains. It is a good complement for legumes, which are often low in methionine and cystine. The protein in quinoa is considered to be a complete protein due to the presence of all 8 essential amino acids. Some types of wheat come close to matching quinoa's protein content, but grains such as barley, corn, and rice generally have less than half the protein of quinoa. Quinoa is 12% to 18% protein and four ounces a day, about 1/2-cup, will provide a childs protein needs for one day. The 6-7% fat of quinoa is relatively high when compared to other grains, but it boasts a low sodium content and also provides valuable starch and fiber. Quinoa also contains albumen, a protein that is found in egg whites, blood serum, and many plant and animal tissues. The seeds are gluten-free which makes this a nutritious and flavorful alternative grain for those with gluten sensitivity. Quinoa would be a worthy addition to anyone's diet, supplying variety as well as good nutrition. The seed is also excellent feed for birds and poultry and the plant itself is good forage for cattle."

Jaimie - I have friended you too. Artemis - are you on Facebook??

I feel so much better for having a proper prosthesis too. It feels really natural, I was feeling myself up all day yesterday! Also feel more confident wearing T-shirts and things. It is just like skin, I wash and dry it with a towel. In Canada the Govt. pays $200 of it, our private insurance covers the rest. The great thing is it just fits inside a normal Bra, so I will be able to buy things "off the shelf" so to speak.

Apple - you are too funny. I would have been mad too, at them just turning up like that. I am not a very "relaxed" entertainer, although i know some people don't mind. I also hate people being late!

Judy - try not to worry, although I know you will. My MIL suffers from Vertigo, it is all connected with menopause, there are crystals in you inner ear that solidify, she has some weird thing she does where she lies down and turns her head to clear it up.

Jaimie - I so hope you get your foobie problem sorted out. Let us know what the PS says. Also let us know what happens with the Kidney Dr.

So, I am getting Zometa set up. I am just waiting for the infusion stuff to arrive (the Zometa people are couriering it out to me), we pick up the Zometa from the Drug Store, and then a nurse comes to the house and infuses me. How civilised!!

Well, I need to get lunches made. It is quite the rush now we have to get Emily to school. have a great day everyone!!

Judy~ I've been having vertigo ever since taxol and my mri's have been clear. The onc says that between taxol and menopause, it is common.

Apple~ I eat lots of quinoa now.  Here's a yummy recipe that also uses avacados (another superfood!):

HEHE....  Sorry for all the post I thought it wasn't working.

So we opened one of the "iffy" spots and about 10cc's of fluid came out :(  Not good, not good....  So after my PS (who I think is wonderful) squezzed the crap out of my foob to get out any possible fluid it's now stitched up.  Did I mention I have a ton of feeling back in my foob :(  Ouchh...  So I am back home sore and stitched.  My PS took a sample of the fluid to see if there is an infection so now I am back

Michele:  did you throw up with your vertigo?  I'm thinking....yes Wink  My onc emailed me today, and said that actually, she's not sure she'll bother with an MRI, it depends on my appt and if I get dizzy again.  Not sure if I'm bummed or not.  Did I miss something---your daughter has swine flu???  I hope she feels better soon, and i hope your jaw feels better soon, too

Jaimie:  oh geez, you poor thing....are you still going to Disney?

Finally got DS's room done (mostly)...poor kid slept on the couch most of the summer, we're so slow (DH is perfectionist)....put his loft bed together, got an awesome deal on a 13 piece set comforter (yes, 13 pieces!) at target today half off yay....still have to get his dresser and computer in there.  I'm exhausted, it's been a busy day and I"m still slightly nauseous...wondering if I might have had a bug that contributed to the vertigo?  I have felt sick ever since, so maybe it's a flu thing.

Here's a pic of his orange wall & new bed (garage sale find):

Judy - your sons room looks awesome! Great deal on the sheet set. I have been trying to think how you get 13 pieces...I can only come up with about 8! Anyhow, he should be happy with it. We have lots of painting jobs around the house, that is going to be my winter project - painting! Hope the vertigo and the nausea are gone.

Jaimie - hope you and your boob are doing OK.

Well, we are off to Niagara Falls for the weekend.  An early Birthday celebration for me. The kids have never been, so they should love it. Enjoy the weekend!

I have never been to Niagra Falls.. I really wanted to go on my honeymoon.

\We married on my budget. 1700 max - i bought my dress for 36 dollars at a thrift shop, altered it, bought my cake at the grocer's -(ext time I'll invest in a good cake) made and sent out my invitations, catered a luncheon myself after a wedding at my mom's house - a full lunch with sandwiches, drinks, 3 salads and cookies... i bought the rings from that money too.  i had 800 dollars saved over and hid it.  (just spent that on my organ recently)..

anyway - we went camping on our honeymoon in late OCTOBER and we went north.. so many cold showers and i saw a bear one nite when i was taking a walk alone.  We slept on a sponge in the back of mr. apple's van and visited relatives.. had a blast pretty much except for the cold showers and the fact that we decide to visit Duluth rather than Niagra Falls.

here's a cute pic.. me - so hungry i could die. i wasn't mad in this photo.. just starving... waiting to cut the dang cake.

So, for anyone who has had their wisdom teeth out~~ How long does it hurt?? I'm still in pain and I usually have a really high pain tolerance. I'm living on tylox and am still having lots of breakthrough pain.  Willl it get better soon?? The mastectomy was waaaaay easier than this.

Michele, when I had my wisdom teeth taken out the pain needing stronger meds lasted only a few days. Then, I only needed occasional tylenol. I'm concerned you are not resting as you should because you're taking care of your sick kids. Hows Maggie, by the way?

Jaimeih, I have a new blackberry, too! I love it! I posted duplicates when I was learning how to use it as well.

Today it was so difficult at work! I was very busy and having a lot of bone pain. I was unable to stop and rest, eat, pee or take any pain meds. Needless to say, I was in a bad mood! Now, one percocet and laying in my bed I feel a lot better!

Apple and Judy, I love the pictures!
