Good afternoon - today is day 2 after tx #3 and I'm doing okay. I woke up feeling a little queasy, but nothing the meds couldn't help. Then got my neulasta shot and am back home. I have the "fuzzy brain" thing again, but not too worried since I seem to get it everytime. I've spent most of today resting, as I don't want to use all of my energy today because tonight my "baby" has her ring ceremony and will finally get her senior ring - Whoo Hoo!!! She is so excited and so am I, it's a big day for seniors.
Kayel - I know the hair thing is hard and we all deal with it differently, but I think we've all felt that once it's gone after an emotional moment or two it's also a relief. I'll wish you luck on this and know it'll be okay. Look at it this way you'll no longer have to worry about a bad hair day.
Titch - I've heard that when the hair first starts coming back it's white, maybe there will be hope that as time goes on you'll have more dark hair than light. I had brown hair with red undertones, no dye and I kid you not maybe 10 gray hairs - I took after my dad's side of the family and was so lucky. However, I will say I know I'll be dying mine when it comes back if it's white.
Hope everyone had a good day and has a good evening.
-
My oncologist told me when my hair comes back in it will be white at first but then will turn back to my normal colour. I hope she's right!
It was kind of funny today. There was a nice breeze coming in the window and it felt nice blowing through the peach-fuzz on top of my scalp. LOL!
Hope you are all doing as well as possible. Hugs!!!

Okay just had chemo #2, four more to go. Feeling fine right now getting ready for the drop in energy.
-
Good Evening All,
Had TX#2 this afternoon. It was uneventful. Only complaint is my IV was a little painful this time. It was on my hand and for some reason it hurt more than last time and it is very sore right now. Ouchy! Other than that I feel ok and have some energy. My stomach issues are beginning again like they did last treatment but they are not too bad. I started getting stomach cramps again and had diarrhea tonight. Oh well, atleast I know what to expect. I plan on going to work tomorrow. I think I am going to be brave and wear my comfy scarf to work tomorrow. Wearing the wig all day at work this week has been a bit uncomfortable to me. My head is very sensitive right now as I still have quite at bit of hair that's falling. I have a very funny looking shaved head right now. I find scarves to be more comfy than hats too so I will be brave with my scarf and hope everyone at work will love the look!
Have a great night everyone and take care! I hope everyone has a wonderful Labor Day weekend.
jenn3 - Can't wait to hear how the ring ceremony went. I hope you got plenty of rest today and felt well during the ceremony.
Karen09 - Losing my hair isn't as scary to me as what it will look like when it comes back. I am terrified! I do have to say I have felt those nice breezes on my head this week and it is very refreshing.
smore - I hope this second treatment goes well for you. Take Care.
-
Hi - I'm visiting from my September Sisters group as I just started chemo on Tuesday. Wed. was OK and I had a neulasta shot. Today is horrid. Headache all day - nearly intolerable. No calls back from my nurse which makes me very unhappy.
Any suggestions for the headache? I tried Alleve, washcloths, laying down, sitting up...
Thanks!
-
Good morning - The ring ceremony was a little rough to get through. The school has a small chapel, but not big enough for the crowds so it was in the gym, which was somewhat warm especially once it filled to over 300 people, but I made it through. I skipped the reception, came home ordered pizza for the family and promply passed out. When I'm feeling better I'll make up with a nice brunch or dinner with the family at a good restaurant in town. However, I made it through I got to see my "baby" get her ring and for that I am incredibly thankful. Tonight is the ring dance - whoo hoo!!!! This morning I'm tired, but it's been the pattern so far - I'll just rest.
Vickilynn - I would call the doctor again and again until someone calls back - you need pain relief. Try relaying a specific message through the receptionist. My doctor did allow me to use Excedrin when I had my first horrible headache and it did help. With that said I read that using asprin during chemo isn't good - don't know why. Good luck, I'm a headache sufferer and feel your pain. Let me know how you did........ I'm thinking of you.
Yasmin - Isn't it funny how cold our heads can get without hair, but once we cover our little bald heads with something it gets so hot................
Karen/Smore - sounds like all is going well for you - yipee.............
Have a great Friday!!!
-
Good Morning - Taxol/Herceptin weekly treatment #2 yesterday and doing well this morning. 10 to go!!!! Some stomach cramps but not bad, my face turned bright red like a sun burn but doing better now. For those who are going to start Taxol soon it's definitely more tolerable than the conventional chemo. Losing a little bit of hair...
Jenn3 - I'm so glad you were able to attend your daughter's ring ceremony. I didn't know what a ring ceremony was! You are a trooper - 300 people - Wooooaaaw!
Vickilynn - keep on pushing your doctors and nurses for an answer!!! I always get somebody to answer my question - my oncologist is very good with email.
smore - Crossing my fingers for you, good luck on #2.
Karen09 - I asked my nurse about PICC line and there are some that can be flushed once a week...
Jennsdogs/Kristin - I won't be able to meet with my son's teacher before school starts on the 9th! I'm thinking about dropping a letter at his school explaining my situation.
Have a great weekend, Manue.

Had Taxotere/Gemzar #2 this week. Had no SE's and very little fatigue. It's starting to scare me how few problems I've had!
One thing I've noticed though, that's driving me up a tree. My poor stubbly, mostly bald head is breaking out. It might be from wearing the wigs all day, but I've tried getting them off as soon as I get home and washing my head a couple of times a day, but it's still looks like a teenager's pizza face around my ears and on the back. I haven't had acne in years. Has anyone else been breaking out like this? Suggestions?
-
I have not been here in a while, but am doing pretty well with my T/C. Only 2 more to go!
Maine Coone Kitty....sounds like you have folliculitis, which I had. Mention it to your oncologist, if it gets bad enough you will need antibiotics. Just don't pick at them! I ended up conditioning my head with regular conditioner every morning and also using the 'toner' I use for my face on the breakout spots. It has dried a lot of them up. I also go with no headwear when I am not at work or in public. Your magnificent hair is starting to grow which is why this is happening!
I hope everyone is hanging in there, I will go back and read the thread over the weekend and catch up on things
-
Thanks for the info, Mickey! I will mention it to the onc next week.

Hello Everyone,
Glad to see that many of you are in a good spell.
I just had my Taxol #6 yesterday. Woohoo. Halfway for this round! I am still feeling pretty well so am very happy. Shockingly my WBC's and RBC's are still mostly in range. I have now started the hotflashes from the Zoladex though but that is manageable. Funny how they just snuck up. I had nothing really until this week. My head keeps getting rearlly itchy and I am sure every hair is about to leap off but it is still just coming out a few starnds at a time. My friend laughed and told me even my hair is stubborn.
I am so looking forward to the long weekend. Work has been very hectic and things had just settled again on the home front so I am looking foreward to an extra day off. Thursdays are treatment days and I just rest for the afternoon but it really seems that the rest only makes up for the treatment itself and doesn't really catch up anymore.
Have a great weekend everyone!

Hello everyone. And happy Friday to all of you hard working women.
My hair has been shedding since Monday. Today it was coming out in clumps. Navyson just got in at 5 this morning from Pensacola. So I decided it was time for DH to shave my head. Very emotional just before he started but a very good feeling after it was done. I am glad my son was here so that he wouldn't have to see my bald head for the first time on Skype. So in his honor I am wearing my Navy scarf.
A good weekend to all
Navy
-
Thanks for that
My hair was all white when it started re-growing, and it is darkening. I didn't realise that was the norm, YAYYYYYYY I was horrified, when white hair was popping up and hubby thought it was very amusing.
I hope u are all good.
It is Saturday here in NZ and I am having a very relaxing weekend. My kids (14 and 10) did an amazing thing yesterday, after school they completed a big clean up of the house (at their own accord) and it is really nice to come home after work and not have housework to do. taken away all my weekend plans. My kids have not been the most helpful kids since being on treatment even doing their normal chores, has been a nightmare. Kids haven;t really understood my illness, as I am sick, but don't appear sick (not in bed, vomitting etc) and seem to be able to manage work / home / treatments etc, to them I am not sick and therefore they can't understand that I don't have the energy to do everything like I normally do. So last night I was a very happy mum, especially as I didn't even start the nagging hehehe.
I am feeling really good, and no SE at all. So far really enjoying the CMF regime. I was on a bit of a high yesterday, and people probably thought I was on speed, which would have been funny cause I was at a police meeting and then spent most of the day at a criminal court (for work). That would be the steroids.

Hello all,
It has been a while since my last posting and trying to catch up. I have been feeling really great. Until my hair began to fallout on day 16 tx #1, I was wondering if the drugs were working. It is funny how your head hurts when your hair starts falling out. I too shaved my head and have been wearing my wigs to work. They do take some getting used to. After 8-9 hours, I am ready to get it off and be free at home.
I have been trying to walk everyday. This was something that I promised myself I would do no matter how bad I felt. Even if for only for 5-10 minutes.
Go for tx#2 on Tuesday. I am hoping this one goes as smoothly as #1, but will wait to see. Just like everything else about BC, I will just deal with any SEs as they come.
I was born and raised in Baltimore, so Jenn I feel your pain when it comes to the crabs and seafood.
I am taking off all next week for my tx, so I will try to post more next week. In the meanwhile, everyone have a great holiday weekend.
-
Good afternoon - Today I'm doing okay, my energy is starting to return after tx #3. The Neulasta shot really got me on this round - It feels like every joint in my body hurts - I think I've found joints I didn't know existed!!! At this point my mouth is okay, although I keep waiting for the worst to happen again. My daughter had her ring dance last night and is spending the weekend with friends, which I'm sure she'll enjoy. It gives me a quiet weekend to clean house and get a few things done that I keep putting off. It looks like it's going to rain, but if the weather holds up I may try to get out in the garden today or tomorrow.
Mainecoonekitty - I've heard that dabbing peroxide on the red bumps helps clean the area and clear it up.
Titch - Sounds like the kids started the weekend off right by cleaning house for you - what a wonderful surprise that must have been.
Have a great Saturday!
-
Hope everyone had a great Labor Day week-end. It was beautiful weather until today, however, I love rainy days like today. DH took my son to the movies which was a treat since we don't get to them very much. My baby is sleeping and thought I would get online before I had to start making dinner.
My energy level is back - even went on a 1 1/2 hour walk this morning with a friend and an hour long bike ride yesterday with the baby. Should be a good week for me even though the kids are starting back to school tomorrow at work.
I just have to be particular about making sure they stay clean and I stay away as much as possible. Even thinking that I can go to yoga or pilates this week at the YMCA. What do you guys think? My WBC was 1.7 this past Thurs. but if I have my own mat, go in and go out - it might work?? Suggestions.
Good news! My mom is flying in next Monday. The same night as my Look Good Feel Good class! I am happy. She will be here for tx #2 an Tx #3 for a week afterwards. It should lift my spirits in between all this.
Jenn: Glad you are feeling better and you went to your daughter's ring ceremony. That is important. Sounds like she is a special young lady.
Luddy: I have been wondering the same thing - if the drugs are working. It has almost been 14 days and no body hair has left me. Also, had my period. Aren't we supposed to NOT have it? We will see. I did notice my scalp was sore this morning after I got out of the shower. You are a week or so ahead of me, I think.
Kristin: Are you ok? Still working out? Just checking in.
Hope everyone has a good week ahead.

Hi to everyone. I'm here to tell you a little about my mother who was diagnosed with breast cancer. She had her left breast removed on july 9,2009. She is 74 years old. She is now taking chemo and the type she is taking is Doxorubicine and cytoxan.. She get the neulsta shot the next day after chemo. Due to the insurance they will not cover it and the pharmacy told us it will cost up to $4000.00 per shot. He blood count dropped to 1.2 after her first treatment and the doctor was not happy so he made us go and get the shot on the 2nd treatment. Not sure how we will handle the expence but thats not the important part right now its getting her back on her feet first. I have been reading the starting chemo aug 09 for about 1 month now and trying to learn everything I can so I can do the best for her. I'm doing this alone due to my sister lives in NE and my brother lives in the state of washington. The problem I am having is that I just dont know the questions I should be asking. I was hopeing for some suggestions from you all. I hope thats not alot to ask but when the DR asks us do we have any questions I look like a deer in head lites. All I know is that she has stage 2 breast cancer lump was 2.8 cm. She tested postive for HER2 one out of 3,no lymph nodes involved and had no receptors. I just have a hard time trying to figure it all out. Dont get me wrong her dr is great. Its me not asking questions. She also has other health conditions to be careful of she had a heart valve replacement done in 1993 and her carotid artery on her rightside done as well. She takes coumadin everyday to keep her blood thin in order that she dosent develope any blood clots. She is also on meds to keep her heart rate regular due to some irregular heart beast that started last summer. I hope and pray for each of you for a full recovery. Thank you in advance for any suggestions you can offer. Also if you have any questions I will do my best to have a answer.
-
I am starting AC/T on Sept 15 and the ladies on the Sept thread told me to contact this thread. I know this seems like two sort of silly questions, but
1) Can you still have sex with your husband when going through chemo? I mean is it safe? I am hoping I will occasionally still feel like it.
2) Are there any foods that I should avoid while going to treatments?
Thanks for your advice
-
Loveshermother... I can only answer one of your questions. If your mother is 74 she has Medicare right? At 2005 when i was going through treatment i heard the nurses talking about Medicare will be covering it. Also that can be part of the treatment or some patients were getting it under prescription plan another words you supply it and the nurse will administer it.
There is still the other one i believe its called Neuprogen but your mother has to go 3-4 times after the chemo. I started with that one but its kind of difficult to go back every day for 4 days.
I wish your mother a speedy recovery. And insist for Neulasta even if you have to make few phone calls. Good luck
Sheila
-
Loveshermother - A lot of insurance dont cover Neulasta... those that dont usually cover Nuprogen. Its a pain re having several shots instead of 1 but its worth looking into.
-
Chinablue
Sex - YES you can have sex whilst on chemo. I was on AC, and now CMF and on both regimes no probs..... Hubby has not complained about any SE on him as a result. I got info about treatment and sexuality and there is nothing in there to say don't have sex. I think you can lose some of your sex drive though..... just due to the fatigue... But as a couple you can talk thru it....... and as long as there is no pressure it is fine.
Food to avoid.... My onc, told me no sugar. I eat whatever I like, there was some food I did go off temporary (specifically Dairy and Coffee) but tastebuds came back fine. Food that really helps with other SE, eat apples. orange / apple juice, oranges, (helps with constipation).
-
Hi Everyone - Just a note to see how everyone is doing..... Hope we all enjoyed labor day..... mine was a bit busy as my dear 12yr old decided to have a final 'hooraaaah' before back to sch Wed and fell off his bike and broke his wrist.... left thank goodness!!
Day 8 of tx 2 has me feeling much better.... except for this darn insomnia...
I got the port (in my chest) on thu and it has been stinging me intermittently inside kinda like there's a needle poking me under the skin. Has anyone else experienced this?
Otherwise ........... its back to school the summer is over and life resumes.............. those with school-age kids y'know what I mean
-
I have never had the neulasta shot........... My bloods etc have always been fine...... and I have been really well...as you know working full time, managing family and having an active social life. I have no idea what it does, but you may find it is not even needed.
In NZ they give steroids (the day of tx) and 3 further days. I have had no nausea and very minimal SE. Also talk to many kiwis on the same regime and very minimal probs,
-
Dear LHM How lucky your mother is to have you to help her. I highly suggest that you get the Breast book 4th edition(5th edition not out yet) by Dr. Susan Love. This was very helpful to me and my husband. I got it from my local library. After reading the book we had several questions that pertained to my own diagnosis. Most onc docs will have chemo teaching a few days before the first tratment is to begin. The other suggestion I have is to keep a notebook or binder or folder. keep reports and info from the each Drs. ofiice. Document every appointment and keep one section just for billing. Stay organized on paper so you can focus on mom. And always write down who you spoke to, what they said and what day you called. AND don't ever be afraid to ask for the manager when something doesn't sound right. You are your mother's angel. I wish you and her the best of luck. Please come back to us August Amazons. There are so many great women on this thread and they have so many expeiences to share if you need help.
I can't remember when the last time I posted, but by Thursday my hair was coming out by the handfuls So on Friday, my DH gave me the dreaded buzz. Halfway through I was fine and glad that the day a finally come.
I had a wonderful visit with NavySon and his wife this past weekend AND GUESS WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!! There is a NAVYBABY on the way!!! YEP Our first grandchild. Due in May. Everyone is feeling fine. They will transer from Pensacola to Jacksonville in October.
I hope everyone has a great day. God Bless all of you that are school teachers. you have a tough job.
NAVY
Elfsong I will be sending you a pm

Hey ladies! I hope everyone had a nice weekend!
Congratulations Navy!!!!!!!! What wonderful news!
About food, I heard it was a good idea to avoid acidic foods because of the mouth sores - like citrus and tomatoes....
I have a busy week of appointments but I get to go to Look Good Feel Better tomorrow afternoon. I'm looking forward to it. As much for a reason to get out for a bit as all the free stuff. haha! They only have the class once a month here and it was too full last month so I'm going tomorrow.
Have any of you gone to these "breast cancer survivors" group meetings? There is one here Thursdays night and I might check it out.
-
Good morning - Hope everyone had a wonderful Labor Day weekend. I normally host a big BBQ with family and friends, which I didn't do this year, nor did I get out because my stomach wasn't too happy. Instead we had our own litte BBQ at home. I was a little frustrated because I couldn't get out, but at the same time know that next year will be better. Today my stomach seems to be doing a little better - I took the dogs for a walk earlier this morning and am feeling more energized.
Navymom - Congrats on Navybaby!!!!
Jennsdogs - When I ask my onc about getting out - his response is always the same. I'm not giving you restrictions, listen to your body and be smart. What he is saying is if you're up to it go out, but be smart. I say go to one of the classes, bring along some Purell and have fun!
Chinablue - My doctor put no restrictions on sex or food. However, like others have said that your sex drive may diminsh due to fatigue or feeling bad. As for food, you may find that some foods are more palatable than others during A/C and another repeat that acidic foods are not as enjoyable during this time. I've cut out acidic foods, no longer add hot sauce or spicy seasonings to my food and strangely enough I no longer crave sweets (which is a good thing).
Reni - Glad you're doing well. I know what you mean, once the kids get back in school it seems like everything starts falling into place - hectic as it may be.
Karen - Enjoy the Look Good class - all the freebies are fun too!!!
Titch - It sounds like you are really handling chemo well - I'm almost jealous............
Have a wonderful day!!!
-
Congrats NavyMom! What a wonderful thing to look forward to, your first grandchild. All the best to your family.
Happy back to school to all the school age families too. We started last week so the long weekend was really a nice treat.
take care everyone!
-
Sure are alot of post here, Ya all are a great group.
Magic Mouth Wash-It's a perscription but if your insurance doesn't cover it, mine didn't and it was $50.00!! drop me a PM and I can tell you what to have your Onc. order and you can mix it yourself. You will need two perscriptions, Malox and liquid Benedryl but the scrips are covered by most insurance. (Go Figure?)I just finished my Chemo. Have about 1/2 inch of gray (where the hell did that come from?) hair. They say it will probably fall out again but I don't care now. Just want hair. I must admit the bald thing isn't all that bad. Jump on the treadmill, do a 1/2 hour and just wipe of the ole head to cool down. If everyone was doing the bald thing I would totally be on board.
About S-E-X drive went down during chemo. but we had lots of other family problems so stress was a big part of our problem. (Mom going thru Chemo too, FIL is passing away, sis having a hysterectomy) Doc said keep some KY jelly on hand if needed, but never needed it. TMI?
As for food- I was told to eat what ever I wanted but avoid under cooked eggs, raw seafood and meat and honey. Just kinda the obvious stuff full of bacteria. I did eat baklava one day and then remembered it was full of honey. opps! You ladies should soon start to feel the effects of Chemo. Brain. It's a real thing, not just a joke, but the good news is that it does go away after treatment. It is driving me crazy. I forget names, transpos numbers and letters and in speech take two words and make one out of it. Like Hand Sanitizer becomes Hanitzer. Keep your brain active, puzzles, typing, reading all good activities for this.
Pink Hugs and hang tight. Lisa

Ok, I went to see my GP today and she told me that I look "much more beautiful without hair". Alrighty! I told her thanks but I'm not keeping the look when this is over. LOL!
-
Good luck to all of you this week. I am having treatment number 2 tomorrow of CMF. Really no problems, lost a few hairs but nothing major. Mouth was uncomfortable but mouthwash and ice cured it. Sleeping is really difficult for me but then it was even before this. I'm hoping this treatment works as well as the last. Then I have 4 more left at 3 week intervals. All of you who work or have small children I salute you. I do get tired but no bid deal for me I just take a nap. I will be praying for all my amazon sisters. Good luck to all of us. Take care, Pam
