    Howdy all,

I've been among the missing recently because I was doing a lot of research on the net for various small problems that seemed to have suddenly shown up.

I thought it had to do with my healthy eating because I changed into a health nut suddenly and my body was wanting a double cheese burger. Anyway, I found this site:

    http://www.ctds.info/index.html

It's packed with info and research on a variety of ailments so I thought I'd share it with you all. I hope this turns out to be true, but I recently changed my magnesium intake to the wrong kind without realizing it. So I'm going back to the right kind (citrate) and I hope my minor problems go away with it.

Patti, you have to drink more water. It's another cure for getting rid of belly fat. Protein and water in, belly fat out. At least 10 glasses a day. You weren't planning on a long car trip?

    Hi Gals:
Just dropping in to say I'm still waiting for my daughter to call to say that little "Twig" (our name for the unborn baby) is on his/her way. Today is actually the due date the doctor gave but if Twig doesn't arrive by next Wednesday, June 15th, they are going to induce Julie. I'm hoping and praying that the baby decides to come before that, but if not at least now we have an outside date.
Anyway, being in this 'holding pattern' I haven't focused alot on WW but I think I'm sort of in a holding pattern there too. From the lowest point I was at about 4 weeks ago, I'm up about 2lbs. I'm just trying to maintain it there and after I go and come back from Milwaukee - I'll get back to it in earnest again.
Hope all of you divas are doing great. We are all in this together and it's so nice to come here for support and friendship. I may not be on the boards for awhile but will be with you all in spirit.
    God bless,
    Pat

Hello all you wonderful Divas! Hope you are all doing well. I've been struggling the past few weeks but I think I'm now back on track. Being away last weekend moving my daughter into her new apartment for college next year was tough, eating out all weekend.

Pat: How exciting waiting for "Twig" to arrive. I'd be very happy to share the 16th with him/her (that's my b-day). Is this your first gc?

Patti: I always love to read you posts. They always put a smile on my face.

Eileen & Cowgirl: Glad to hear you are both feeling better each day. We miss you both!!

Rosemary: You always have such good information. Keep it coming!!

Here's another great summertime recipe - great dessert, I don't think I posted it already.

1 package of sugar free pistachio pudding.
1 small container of cool whip lite.
1 cup of low fat/skim milk.
Combine these ingredients in a bowl, put in fridge and let set.

Use the above as a "dip" for strawberries, grapes, kiwis, any type of fruit. It's delicious. FYI, I do not like pistachio but loved the dip. [It is also great on top of brownies but we don't even discuss that.]

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend. Pat: We'll be waiting for any "Twig" news. Good luck. - Janet

My drug fog brain seems to have cleared up. I feel better until my next fill on Wednesday. It takes me about 4 days of getting through it, now I feel good.

I take citrical D usually, I think it and Omega 3 really help you feel better. I am not pushing myself on counting I am just trying to get back to myself right now. I know I will be OP soon once my fills are done.

You all sound so committed keep it up!

    Alice,

I have to know, posted what information? Where? What?

I was reading along in something and I found this quote about kelp:

"Kelp contains nearly thirty minerals which nourish the glands (especially the thyroid and pituitary). By enhancing the action of the glandular system, it helps balance the body's metabolism and rate at which it burns calories. Kelp, also known as seaweed, grows in the rich ocean beds, far below surface pollution levels.

Because of its high nutrient content, this herb is reputedly beneficial for a wide range of applications. It is known to nourish the sensory nerves, brain membranes, also spinal cord and brain tissue. Kelp contains alginic acid which can help protect the body against the effects of radiation."

So kelp helps our metabolism to burn calories. I switched, I was taking barley with kelp and I switched it to just barley. Dang it.

Anyone ever hear of having to buy a new transmission for a car less then 3 yrs old? No more Honda's for me. It has to be a factory problem. I'm about to find out if they see it my way or will it cost me $2 grand to fix their mistake.

Pat, I'm predicting that Twig is going to be a girl. We know how to curl up in a nice warm dark place without a care in the world.

Sorry I forgot to add this yesterday I guess

Taking any suupplements can be dangerous. Here are some concerns:

Avoid using solid tablets containing glucomannan. These can sometimes cause blockages of the throat or intestines.

    Interactions:
    Medications for diabetes (Antidiabetes drugs):
Glucomannan can decrease blood sugar in people with type 2 diabetes. Diabetes medications are also used to lower blood sugar. Taking glucomannan along with diabetes medications might cause your blood sugar to go too low. Monitor your blood sugar closely. The dose of your diabetes medication might need to be changed.

Medications taken by mouth (Oral drugs):
Glucomannan absorbs substances in the stomach and intestines. Taking glucomannan along with medications taken by mouth can decrease how much medicine your body absorbs, and decrease the effectiveness of your medication.

    Alice,

Thanks, that's good to know. I've been finding out a lot of things can interfere with medications that I didn't know about. Flaxseed, and some calcium pills shouldn't be taken within a couple of hours of medication.

I'll bet there's more of that going on that we know nothing about. That fiber should only be taken with liquids. Ever wonder how the chinese get such thick sauces? I mix it with my juice and then I can eat my juice with a spoon. It offsets the sugars in the juice so you don't get a sugar high which is supposedly bad for our diets.

Thanks, now I know not to take it around med time.

Has anyone ever gone to 3fatchicks to get recipes? I used to do it all the time before BC. It has a lot of good ideas and different recipes plus it is free.

Divas, I'm baaaack!! I should also add that I'm back a few pounds heavier!!!!! I thought all that dancing we did Saturday would help to shed a few pounds - NOT!!!!! Oh well, I had a great time, but I'm exhausted. Having trouble getting up in the mornings - I feel like I could sleep another couple of hours! I think I'm too old for all this partying - good thing it's only once a year!!

You can see my pics on the photo thread.

Sounds like everyone here is doing great.

I am doing the Core WW program. I really like it. The Dr. told me yesterday not to lose more than a # a week. 2 or 3 a month best. Said when in a weight loss mode the body did to have the healing properties it normally did! I am still doing radiation. He did say not to quit though and to walk!

    Patti,

Yep, I set a goal also and I only have 7 lbs to go to get there. This is the longest time I ever spent trying to lose 7lbs. I thought it would fall off me once I got back swimming. Wrongo! I'm not even trying to be my High School weight. I'm just trying to get to the right BMI weight.

I have to start looking up things to eat to get the metabolism back into gear. I'll take any gear at this point.

I do notice one thing though. Every time I see a new number on the scale I get hungry. I'm going to have to stay off the scale I guess. Though it's fun to look at when I see a new number. Problem is I've seen this new number 3 times so far and grew from there. I may be here with you till Xmas trying to lose 7 lbs.

    Alice,

How long do you have to go till the end of radiation? You need your energy during this time. Maybe a few rewards even. Ice Cream! It cools off the innards. Low fat ice cream, of course.

Someone said B-12 helps to kick up the metabolism so I'm off to check that out for us.

Well I'm back already. I didn't find the b-12 but I found this instead: No wonder I get stalled. Look at how little calories we can eat to just lose a pound a month!

    Hi All Divas:
I'm checking in from Milwaukee just to let you know that on June 15, my daughter Julie had a wonderful, beautiful, healthy daughter who then named Reilly (my maiden name) Constance (her husband's mother's name). She weighed in at 8lb/4oz and was 21 1/4 inches long. And of course, she really is beautiful!!!! I wish I knew how to post pictures to the site because I would. I'll try to figure out a way to do that. Reilly was breach and wouldn't turn so they had to do a C-Section but Julie is doing great. What is funny is that Julie was breach 33 years ago and I had to have a C-Section too. Reilly looks exactly like Julie did as a baby - wow what a surreal experience. Well, I've gone on enough now but I know you ladies have been following this experience and I thank you for all your concern and prayers. They really worked!!! More on WW in my next post - I have no idea how I'm doing. Haven't been on a scale in 9 days so I'll just have to see when I go home. I'm really not thinking much about it right now - Reilly has all my attention. This is our first grandchild - can you tell??? LOL
    Talk later -
    God bless,
    Pat

Alice - Be careful not to lose to much weight when you are having rads. My rad onc said I had to stay exactly the same (no gains, no losses) so the measurements wouldn't be off. Just a word of encouragement -- since I finished rads last July I've lost almost 18 lbs. on WW and walking/gym. - Janet

WTG Janet! Mine acted like it had more to do the the healing process than the change in dementions ? But like my Daughter said her Dr. said ask 3 Drs and get 3 opinions! I am not that large breasted anyway! The one I saw on Monday was not my primary oncologist , a neighbor and we just chit chatted! )) Glad he did not want to see my boob! ) I would have had to tell him to stand in line!

    Patti,

Just think, some day you too will be 7 lbs from goal and I'll still be here cheering us on. I'm probably not 7 lbs away any more. Yesterday I could have sat in my fridge with a knife and fork, forget about a plate. I hate days like that.

That resource thread has been growing. The vitamin list has been getting bigger and bigger and every time I find a little good news about a vitamin or mineral, I start taking it. I have to hand it to nutritionists, how do they keep all this info in their heads?

Here's some info on foods to eat to perk up our metabolism, except for the soy advice:

Rosemary: Congrats on being 7 lbs. from goal. That's really great. Sometimes those last few are the hardest. It's so hard in the summer to stay focused. I had to chuckle about not trying to get to high school weight. I finally reached my pre-pregnancy weight and my baby will be 21 in August. But hey at least we are putting in a good effort. Keep up the good work (and keep those bits of information coming, they are so helpful). - Janet

Maybe I won't have to put in those extra months to lose a few pounds. Look what I found:

In a Belgian study of 27 obese patients, Dr. Luc Van Gaal found that over half of the persons studied were significantly deficient in Co-Q10. Dr. Van Gaal and his co1leagues then performed a clinical study on two groups of overweight subjects. Subjects in group A were found to be deficient in Co-Q10 while subjects in group B were not. Both groups were placed on controlled reducing diets and both were given 100 mg. of Co-Q10 daily. After 9 weeks Group A had lost an average of 30 pounds compared to an average of 13 pounds for group B. After 3 months the Co-Q10 deficient group had lost an average of 38 pounds.

    http://ez-trim.com/html/Co-Q10.htm

We're all on a controlled reducing diet of some kind...on somedays. I'm going to put this to the test.

I know co Q10 interacts with some statin drugs. That has to be checked out first though.
