Raye, you do look sweet, but a bit like a swiss maiden or german lass wearing a dirndyl (sp?) skirt.... A smaller size would just make the high contrast white embroidery even tighter in a smaller area.
-
Thanks Kathi!
HA. Barbe - I know what you mean. And I like a more fitted style. It is cute, but maybe not for me.
This is what I need my (you) girls for. XOXO. I think it's going back to the VS warehouse. I'll find something else more suitable for me at TJ Maxx.
-
So, I'm gone for a couple of hours and I miss Raye in her sexy Heidi dress??? Not fair.
Michelle, I think that'syour name, right?, your trip sounds like it will be a whirlwind. What fun and I'm sure you will look gorgeous! Have you sent away forthose H Winston triple looop earrings yet?
Great news! All my drains are now out and I can drive! Raye, thanks for asking. I feel like a million bucks. Going to make myself a grilled cheese and tomato sandwich now in celebration. Plus, I now no longer have a cavern at the top of my chest! This surgery was so successful I think even the surgeon is surprised. It was well worth it. Going out for lobster tonight and will see some old friends.
Have a great weekend, ladies. barbe, come back more often. I was missing you!
-
I was missing me too Tina! I had some medical issues earlier this month but I'm baaaaaack!
-
You didn't miss much, Tina. So glad to hear you are doing well! Wow. drains out already! I want to hear more about this surgery, as it is something that I have consulted with my PS (well, two of them) about, but they would not do the free flaps (I would need two) - just the tunneled lat flaps. Anyway, that is for another forum (or PM).
Barbe - we are glad to have you back!
Have a good weekend girls.
-
Well, I leave for a week or so and everyone is having surgery! Gawd, Tina, yours sounds to be a real biggun! Will this be your last one for recon purposes? It certainly should be, right? Well, at least your spirits sound great (as always, I might add!).
Raye...I didn't see the pic of you in the dress, but here's what I'll say about VS...unpredictable on any clothing other than lingerie and swimsuits! I have a few sundresses that I like, but their shorts and jeans just fit weird! I think that if you're at all iffy about the dress, you should return it. They do have a special that ends on Sunday where you can get 40% off anything in their "endless summer" collection and there are tons of choices. I might order (yet another!) a swimsuit for my vacation on the river. It comes in plaid and that sounds very "river-like" to me (huh???!
). Anyway, use the code 40SUMMER if you want to order.
Hey, you all, where did Beth get to?
~Marin
-
Raye, I might be able to fix that cami with pockets for your rubber boobs
just like the mastectomy bras. Let me get the prototype done for me first and I will see what can be done for the 'rubber boob' group.
Marin, the last I knew Beth was going on a rafting trip but I haven't heard from her since then.

-
Tina, you go, girl! I'm so glad the surgery was such a success.
See, Raye? I give you the flattering validation, Barbe gives you the honest validation, so between the two of us you get all bases covered!!
Hi, Marin!
Saw my surgeon today. Cried. Needed a meltdown. She's trying me on Provigil for the fatigue. But of course there was a small problem when I got to the pharmacy -- supposed to start on 50 mg but it only comes in 100 mg pills, so they have to get her to call back & say yes, give her 100 mg pills & break in half. Cripes.
Going out to dinner later & I'm ordering a gooey dessert.
-
Back to the tote: BTW, I'm a handbag ho--must have 45 bags, several vintage designer and lots of others.
The tote is made from chewing gum papers that are woven together. You can find several wrapper bags on ebay. they are made from different kinds of wrappers or papers, really recycled and teriffic colors and styles.
Another recycled item is a bag made from used billboard vinyl---lots of cute totes and such. Just ck them out on ebay.
I love creative bags and enjoy both basic black and way far out colors and shapes.
-
I'm a bigger bag-ho than you Dotti. I must have 75!!! Lot's of vintage ones too. I sold 17 of my enid collins ones to one lady!
Marin, have you not gone down that river yet?
Kathi, I said Raye looked sweet....I just don't think she wants to look sweet!

I would love the pattern to that cami if you figure it out.... never thought of stretch lace as a type of material... lol. I did make my bathing suit more uniform with a large bath scrubbie thing - you know the puffy thing.... and half an old bra. With the built in shaper it was an easy thing to fit and no sewing shows. Putting a prosthesis in there caused it to come away from the chest and I had one regular size breast and this gargantuan thing hanging out. It was embarassing. I read on here about the puff and am trying it this Sunday.... wish me luck.
-
Hi, all! Well, the gown arrived yesterday and I tried it on - beautiful!! It fit but maybe a little too well, even with boning in the bust area, it was a little too snug, so I called and am having them send me the next size up, and I'll return this one. I can get it altered to adjust anything being too loose. Length was perfect and I love the color. Now I know what shoe heel to find. My sister has a couple of my great aunt's vintage beaded clutches, and she's going to meet me at my hotel when I arrive and we'll see which one will work the best - that will be perfect - Iove vintage.
I did get the VS boyfriend cropped jeans - they fit perfectly - run a little large, which is very comfortable, and when rolled up at the hem to the ankle, look adorable with all shoes. Need to get a pair of those booties everyone's wearing. I do agree, VS is good with t-shirt sizes, and underwear, of course, but the dresses tend to run small, they really like their things to "fit" a little on the snug side.
-
Oh, chelev, how exciting! Can't wait to see photos of you all done up!!
Barbe, I think you're right. Sweet is not what a lot of us fashionistas are going for when we get dressed up.
-
Thanks Sheila - as I said, the cami is just beautiful and would love to see you work your wonders for ladies like me.
Marin - I agree totally. The dress is actually in my car waiting for me to complete the return receipt and off she goes. Yes, the bathing suits are perfect, as are the T shirts in my opinion. I've also bought the turtle necks, but they shrink up to nothing. And you know what, I think plaid seems river like as well! Country type of look.
Kathi - I am sorry you cried at the doctor. Geez, do I know what that is like. I hope you are feeling better and that the gooey dessert did the trick! Barbe and Kathi - maybe I want to look sweet! HA. Only sometimes *WINK*.
Michele - you must be thrilled about your dress. sonds simply beautiful.
OH Sh**. I see my post already posted as I continue to type about our important topic of fashion! what the heck? Oh, perhaps it didn't post. ?
Anyway, I found the cutest jeans!!! The brand is called William Rast and it is Justin Timberlake's line. I haven't actually found them, just found them online. I was out Saturday night and this girl had the CUTEST jeans on, well I asked her what kind they were (they say the best way to find out about a woman's style is to ask her) and she enlightened me. Only problem: no retailers around my Clevelandly Dawg Pound area sell them, so I have to buy them online. Free shipping, but breaking out the measuring tape will be part of this purchase, as I have no idea how to order by waist size. What a chump I am.
-
I thought I had posted this somewhere but can't find it. Anyway, those LLBean curvy jeans don't fit me at all. I bought the petite because they are boot cut and those are hard to shorten as you end up cutting off most of the flare at the bottom.
The petite size crotch is way too short for me, plus they are below the waist. The feeling is terrible. Butt fits but thighs are huge. I'm very disappointed and they are going back today.
Raye, I just checked out the Wm Rast jeans. $200??? They gotta be kidding. Cute enough but the price is outrageous.
-
Yes, I remember the curvy jeans had a short crotch. OUCH.
ugh, yeah, I was trying not to shout out the price of the jeans. I may not even get them, but if I do, here is my thought: I have two pairs of jeans in my closet - they are the ONLY jeans I wear and I've had them for one-three years. One is a pair of Levi's and the other is that pair of Nine West I showed you guys last year, I believe. Oh, and a white pair of Lucky's (from TJ Maxx) that I only wear in the summer. So, if I buy these jeans, I will have three pairs; one of which (the one pair) I will wear for the next couple of years. Sort of nets out? Justification at it's finest. Bottom line (heh) is yes, they are quite expensive! BUT not as expensive as True Religions.
-
AND you're worth every penny.
-
You certainly are worth it.
Now, I have a question about the leopard flats---I wear a lot of black pants and blk, wht, or colorful tops---any thing I Shouldn't wear them with--and I'm guessing that the shoes would be the only animal print I'd wear with any outfit.
Help me with the rules, Ladies, I've been so conservative most of my life. LOL, I heard that after 60, women wear more red and other colors---must the the old thing about--what the hell!
-
Dotti, think leopard flats would be just the ticket! Actually tried some on in Target last week as they were on sale but I thought they were too flimsy for me. I have seen them in various catalogs such as J Crew and Garnet Hill but they were expensive. If I found some reasonably priced I would buy them!
I bought a cute cami/panti set in leopard print at the supermarket a couple of weeks ago. I don't know why they were there! On sale for $2.99! I immediately tried them on (when I got home LOL) and strutted it in front of DH. Made him drool then I ran for cover.
I think we should all wear lovely flashes of color just not toooo much as with swingy earrings, loads of bangles, peasant tops AND skirts, lots of makeup, etc. A sure sign of being over the hill, at least until we give up completely and go with the oxfords and poly pantsuits. And pointy umbrella.
Now, I need some information. WHERE can I find nice, cotton socks? They must be thin-ish, at least crew height, not shorties, NO elastic band at the top, just the ribbing continuing or a wide band of ribbing. (Those elastics at the top cut into my calves.) I like knee socks, too, but with my short legs I must roll them down a bit.
I know Hue makes some nice socks and I am in search of those but is there another brand or store that carries what I describe? I want basic navy and black, nothing cutsie. Maybe some darker browns, too.
-
Dottie - I believe you can wear the leopard flats with almost anything - just don't overdo. For example, a black outfit with the leopard flats. Or a black pair of pants with a red shirt and the leopard flats. Almost anything, but I wouldn't go crazy with tons of color (and I know you wouldn't anyway - so is mute point) and then the leopard flats. Winter white, some gold or silver jewelry and the leopard flats - now that sounds cute (I know, not much color in that outfit).
Tina - Hue is my favorite brand for tights and socks, but I do believe they have elastic on the top. How can they not fall down if the socks do not have elastic at the top? Another brand might be DKNY, I know I've gotten their tights before and loved them. Also Target. Not a big fan of their clothes, but I have some nice pairs of socks from there, but alas, they have elastic at the tops. Maybe they also carry socks that do not have elastic at the top? Good luck.

sorry for the deleted posts - I seem to be technically challenged the last couple of days. Posting the same thing twice, etc.
-
Hi ladies! I just got an order from Spiegel I completely forgot about - but it is a really cute cardigan sweater in a sheer cotton knit - on sale for $29.00 - I got the red. Tried it on last night- Love it!
-
Oh, elastic allover is fine just not the extra tight line at the top. Like an overall rib pattern with elastic is good but those socks that are smooth regular knit then have the band at the top are bad for me.
Girls, I have to tell you that I am so excited about the latest flap results! I can now really wear anything and any neckline and no one would be the wiser. Lovely little swell for cleavage. I was never well-endowed and this is perfect. The doc did say when he saw me last that although it was a big surgery it was well worth it. I am so pleased. This has major fashion implications. And posture. Don't have to worry about bending over anymore.
I know this is all somewhat frivolous but it makes me really happy. Thanks for listening.
-
Chelev, love that sweater! And the color! Tina, I'm soooo happy for you. It does NOT make you sound frivolous. No one trying to take their life back in every way possible after cancer is frivolous!
Dotti, I agree with Raye on the leopard flats. I have a leopard skin headband that is just the thing with some of my outfits. Goes with black, brown, fawn, dark red and some other clothes. Almost bought some leopard skin shoes myself last week. Also love leopard skin gloves with a black coat in winter!
Hey, girls, don't think I've posted this here, but I saw my surgeon last Friday and I don't have to have another mamm for a whole year!!!!! Oh, it's almost like being normal again. And she started me on Provigil for my fatigue, and OMG, I feel almost normal with that, too. It's a miracle, really. You know how you start to think you're crazy after a while when you've felt like crap for so long and nothing helps and no one seems to be able give you a solution to it. Well, Provigil is a med developed to help fatigue, sleep disorders and other stuff. They're not sure what the mechanism of action is, but it seems to be a dopamine reuptake inhibitor, dopamine being another one of those multifaceted neurotransmitters in the brain. A severe lack of dopamine is one of the characteristics of Parkinson's disease, for instance. Anyway, it's not "speed" so it doesn't give you the jitters. You just feel, well, normal! And when you get tired, it's a good tired, and sleep has felt good again, not like a pointless but desperate interval that doesn't help the fatigue, which is how I've felt for months now. I can't tell you how amazing it is to not feel like road kill every day.
Anyway, cancer related fatigue can last for years, so if any of you has felt like that, IT'S NOT YOU!!!! There have been studies about this, including how the oncologists DON'T address it the way they should despite the fact that most cancer patients complain that fatigue is their worst lingering problem after treatment.
After I saw my surgeon last Friday, naturally I had to do some retail therapy. Photos soon. I got this really cute dress that is perfect for us partially or totally boobless girls. I can almost get away without wearing a bra at all in it, because my intact boob isn't very big either. Raye, the style would look fabulous on you and Cathi. The name of the shop was "Therapy" -- LOL. So, when I'd picked out my three things, I plopped them on the counter and said to the owner, "I feel much better now" and we had a good laugh.
Hugs to you all. I'm so happy to feel like maybe now I can get my life back to normal.
-
ahh Kathi - that is wonderful wonderful news!! I am so happy that your medicine is helping, the fatigue is gone, you are sleeping well and not another mam for an entire year!!! Fabulous news girl!! Way to go. Now, this Therapy shop - do they have a website? I will check it out and advise.
Tina - Happy for you too! And glad you are excited with your results. I am soooo interested in your procedure. I wanted that exact procedure (but bilaterally), but as I've mentioned - no free flaps for moi. Although sometimes my chest feels so tight with merely the double mast, I can't imagine having more work done to that area, but am very intrigued by it. Maybe - when you have time - you can send me a PM with the details?,but only if you are comfortable with that. If not, no worries.
Michele - love the sweater. In fact, I have one just like it! Same color. Last spring I bought a dark fushion colored sweater in the same style from Ann Taylor for $19.99 - one of their "final sales." No returns.
Haven't decided on the jeans. I really can't justify that cost, although I tried mightily yesterday. They've got to have them at Nordstroms here - they have them online. Maybe if I could try a pair on and fall in love...(with the jeans).
-
Raye, anytime you want to chat just let me know. I'd be more than happy to talk to you. PM me if you want.
Kathi, I'm so glad your positive reaction to this drug is ongoing. What a difference it will make in your life!
-
Tina,
Just wanted to mention that in Walmart (and maybe Target) they carry crew socks that are made for diabetics so they don't have elastic on the top (They're just like regular crews except no elastic). I think they only come in white and black though. I'm not sure of the brand but they're usually in the same vicinity as all the socks.

Ya'll are too young to remember, but in high school, and part of nsg. school, we wore socks that were ribbed from ankle to the top of the sock, and THEY STAYED UP! all cotton, no elastic, just thick frim cotton ribbing. the sock part was just like all cotton athletic socks. Not silky, by any means, but comfortable with our penny loafers. (we're talking '57-61) I do believe I 've seen them lately, but of course, cannot remember where. Seems like Penny's? or Target? Wallyworld?Kmart.
I have the full support socks that I wear when on long car trips or flying---I bet they are diabetic socks. LOVE them. they are graduated support to mid, upper calf, and keep the swelling Way down. I have black to go with my travel trousers. Oh, and the toes are loose/open.
-
Dotti, I'm not that far behind you. Grad HS in '65 and I remember those socks and poodle socks, too!
Friday I have to go in for another post-op visit and will do the rounds starting with Target, looking for socks. I visited the Hue website and will order directly if I can't find anything locally.
Here's a pic of one of my new jackets. It's black cotton sweatshirt material. The sleeves are long on me; they're supposed to be 3/4 length and they come down to my knuckles, so I will shorten. Minor job.
You cannot tell from the pic but the buttons are "sterling" silver, kinda looking like Tyrolean. I think this jacket might look cute with dark wash jeans. Some kind of heeled shoes. Any ideas for me to look smashing?
