Hi Everyone!
Congrats to the new grandmas. Isn't it great? What a couple of cuties!
I'm going to try and make it on Sunday (thanks, Nancy). Mike and I are leaving for Chicago and NYC on Tuesday, so I've got a lot to get done, but I'll do my best.
Hope everyone's doing well and enjoying themselves this "summer".

Hi Everyone - Just mention Pie and we got a nice group together. Geri is going to try and make it and nursemikki - one of the oldtimers (not in age but being a survivor) is coming and offered to drive if anyone is coming from around Novi.
I promised you the exit number and forgot about it. It's exit #169 off of I-94 (Zeeb Rd).
We will have to plan this again soon to catch Dianne and Peg.
I'm jealous of all the grandma's! I want to be a grandma! Not likely my cats will have kittens though.
Where has JudyRock been? Sue, xxxooo to you and your DH and you to Neesie & DH.
See you tomorrow!

Thinking of all of you and thanking you all for the support!!

Neesie and Sue, you are in my prayers always (((hugs)))

Hey everyone- the three day is this weekend. Anyone interested in going out and cheering ?
friday 10-noon in Westland,
noon - 6 pm Livonia,
Saturday 9:45-2:30 downtown Plymouth,
11:30-5:45 Livonia
Sunday Ann Arbor.
Anyone know if Maureen is walking again this year??
-
I live in Westland Rockysmom...what is happening in Westland??? I just had chemo so don't know if I could take the heat we're supposed to have but would love to know the event just in case. thanks , janet
-
Arnie, the Three Day Cancer walk will be passing by our way (I live in Westland too). They will be passing by Friday in the 10- noon time frame. There will be a cheering section set up at the Save-a-Lot at 8244 N Merriman. If you would like to head over there and cheer the walkers on, I'd love to meet you there and cheer.
Janet, I just checked with mapquest- it's just north of Ann Arbor Trail.
Any of you Livonia Ladies want to meet up at any of these times/locales?
-
Well, we (that's DH, really, but I definitely have had input) still don't have a plan, but we're closer. There are some questions about his liver on the PET scan at a second opinion, so they will be doing another study, but we have decided it is because the second opinion doc was used to reading scans from a different machine. And we are not going to let it spoil our vacation. We are seeing the big kahuna of esophageal ca at the U of M when we get back, but so far, it looks like we are going to go with a clinical trial offered at Henry Ford that includes a monoclonal antibody that has been effective in stomach cancer (sort of like gastric herceptin). They are looking for good cure rates.
By the way, neither DH nor DD would share any of their pie with me - they hunched over their treats like dogs over a bone. What a good idea!
Monday, we leave for the island of Hawaii, staying at a resort on the Kona coast. We may just decide to eat lotus and never come back - DH keeps saying he just needs to wake up from this nightmare.
Judy - sorry I missed your posts until after the 3 day was over. I've been going to all dr's appointments, and am working extra hours in the evenings and weekends - for the money, of course. I worked 8 hrs that Saturday. I felt so sorry for the walkers - so hot!
Will hopefully post pix
-
Sue -
Have a wonderful time in Hawaii. My DH and I went back in 2002 and loved it. We were also on the Kona coast. The first morning we woke up at 2:30 wide awake because of the time difference. If this happens to you, try to take advantage of it and drive over to the other side for the sunrise. Worth it! Also worth it is a helicopter ride.
Be sure to take lots of pics!
Irene
-
Sue:
Just saw your post. Have a wonderful, wonderful trip. I've never been to Hawaii - we've talked alot about it but haven't made it as yet. I'm happy you have a plan for your hubby. I'm sure you have been very, very busy getting all of this arranged, and working to-boot!! I pray that you guys have a super time and as Irene said, take lots of pics to share for our next get together.
P.S. Hi there Irene - hope all is going well for you. We need more pie!!
Hugs to all,
Pat
-
Sue - have a wonderful time in Hawaii! Waiting for pics!
I found this sign for everyone....

Hello Michigan Ladies.
I am in Southeast Michigan (Blissfield) near Adrian. I would love to come to one of your next get togethers. Let me know if you ladies have anything planned. Where was the last one?
Jennifer
-
Jennifer - Welcome neighbor in Blissfield I live in Hudson. Our last get together was in Ann Arbor. We have met in Chelsea, Livonia, Brighton. We try and do a central location since we are scattered around the state. I travel to Adrian often and my Hubby works there. We would love to meet you at our next gathering.
Sue - Aloha! Have a wonderful trip you and DH deserve it.
Nancy - Loved the pie sign.
JudyRock - Did you get to cheer the walkers on? We were on vacation that weekend.
We should plan another get together after Labor Day.......any ideas?
Hi to rest of the MI gang.

My question to everyone is:
Where did summer go? and Why did it go away so quickly?
This school year marks a new stage in my life. I am sending my daughter off ot U of M. Tears are already starting to creep in. I could use some pie.
Dianne
-
Hey Dianne - I have been in your shoes sending a daughter off to college. First few months are rough but hang in there is does get easier. Sit back/enjoy and just be proud. My daughter was good about calling me and I visited as much as she would allow. LOL Helpful tip : Send care packages/cards with gift certificates college students love to get mail and especially a package of goodies from home.
Hugs
WIngGirl -
I have been there too. We just drove my daughter to Denver to start Grad school. 3 years and then clinicals. It will be weird to have her that far away. She was at MSU for 3 years and we didn't see her alot but at least if we wanted to take her for dinner or something it was only a 40 minute drive.
-
Hi Winggirl
You are not far away in Hudson. It truly is a small world. I would love to come to your next gathering. I'll try to pay attention to this thread to see when you all are meeting next. Where do/did you go for treatment. I work in Toledo and my insurance is only Ohio
so I go to UT MCO. I was able to get radiation up at Uof M.
Jennifer
-
Hi, Jennifer. I'm not Winggirl, but I do know she had her treatments at UofM. I went there also.
I thought the people in their radiation department were wonderful, I hope your experience there was good also.
Hi to everyone and so sorry I missed the pie!
Neesie and Sue, always in my prayers.
-
Well, we're back. It was awesome, and we did everything. I have now been to a live volcano (Kiluaea), dead volcano (Muana Loa, they hope), a place where there has been 2 tsunamis (Hilo), the place where Captain Cook died (near the town of Captain Cook), the Place of Refuge for neutral people during war (gorgeous), a coffee co-op (DH is now officially a Kona coffee addict), and I own a book on Hawaiian birds - it was so weird to not recognize a single species - instead of robins, they have mynah birds, there are no seagulls (very weird for this Long Islander), the cardinals have black and white bodies with red heads, and there are flocks of finches that I kept thinking had escaped from their cages. The landscape looked like a botanical garden - maybe a 100 sq mile version of Matthei - DH adores crotons and bouganvilla now.
Jen - so nice to "meet" you - looking forward to meeting you IRL at our next get-together.
DD started her second semester of college - because of her learning disability, she only takes about 9-10 hrs, so college is going to be a long experience, but she is looking for her first part-time job.
Well, the clinical trial DH signed up for turned out to be closed - they called today. He is really upset - we have an appt at the U of M tomorrow, and they have another clinical trial for the same monoclonal antibody in a different combination - keep your fingers crossed for us! It just sounds so right.
Being back at work was no fun at all - but I'm certainly there until DH's treatment is over, if I can just avoid telling them they are idiots.
Love to you all - thanks so much for your prayers and good thoughts.
