My name is Doreen.  My best friends daughter who was 2 at the time called me Reen.  She still calls me Reen and so do many of my friends now.

I had a great vacation last year in Mexico with my 21 year daughter.

Since then she was often calling me Mamita, like the spanish word for Mom, plus I added my age.

I wanted to use my regular user name I use for EVERYTHING....BUT...like someone else mentioned I did NOT like the fact someone could google my name and find all my posts and sometimes personal information.  Let alone if I say something that isn't always very flattering to say the least about my oncologist or surgeon I don't want anyone at my cancer center to be able to find my posts.

So I use to have a good friend named Shelly.  When I TRIED signing up with that user name it was taken no matter what combination of things I added to it.  So I used CHELEE spelled differently but I still end up with what I wanted.  Actually the name has grown on me and I think I will change my name to Chelee.  LOL  :)  (Kidding)

I am a fan of Anne Tyler who wrote Accidental Tourist but I guess I chose it because I did not set out to be on this journey.  Yet here I am.

I don't know the story behind my wife's O2BHEALTHY name other than she apparently borrowed it from her mother-in-law, I just thought that I would best suit my wife if I was her 02BHEALTHYHUSBUM!

My wife is a marketing brand manager and thus her name is MarketingMom

Route 53 is the name of my blog.  I'm a bit of a Herbie the Love Bug fanatic and have my car done up like Herbie the Love Bug with the racing stripes and the number 53.  I had actually created my blog: http://route53.wordpress.com/ right before my wife was diagnosed with cancer.

The German Sheppard mix pictured in my avatar is my fur baby Casey.  The love of my life got her for us while I was going through treatment.  Since we do not have any children we consider her our child.

    Hugs and Love to everyone

I've really enjoyed reading this thread -

Mine is from my haircolor - natural redhead that looked more orange as I was growing up, plus I just like the color orange.

I enjoyed this thread too. I was not very imaginative when I signed on (I was panicky!), so I went with my first 2 initials kj and used a variation of my last name, so I became kjbell. Some of the names here are very clever and it is fun to read the stories behind them.

I'm thrilled to see more people sharing their stories!  I think I'm going to bump up the one about the avatar picture.

BTW-a lot of you say you weren't imaginative about your "names," but you have ALL still managed to share a fascinating story as to how you ended up choosing to use your name!

    What a great thread!

My screen name is a nickname I've had for many years....when I was younger I had long blond hair, dragon tattoo on my arm, bright red lipstick and owned a chainsaw.  My friends owned a coffee shop downtown by my house and they had a dead tree in their courtyard.  I offered to walk over from my house with my chainsaw and cut it down for them.  I guess I was quite a sight since maybe not many girls go walking around with big chainsaws......the baristas and the customers started calling me chainsaw momma!  It spread and got shortened to chainsaw :>  That screen name is always taken so I add the Z on the end for chainsawz.

Last year, my friends and family created a coffee book of my life and named it "The Chainsaw Chronicles - Volume 1"....very awesome!  lisa

Yay!  I'm happy to see this thread bumped!  There are a lot of "new" names (meaning I haven't "met" a lot of you since I've been away for a bit).  I always love these stories.  It makes you all human.

Great thread! I've always wondered about some of the screen names.

I've had my screen name for almost ten years--started when I was on a couple of fertility support boards. I was born and raised in Carolina (not telling which) and have been trying to move back there for about...well...ten years. Stuck in NYC for a number of reasons. (Also googling Carolina59 basically gets you a lot of Carolina basketball scores, lol.) 59 is the year I was born.

    Hi all,

Fairly new to these boards but have been lurking and gathering information since my diagnosis.  I have also looked at the names and wondered about 'the stories' behind the names.

I chose mine because, much like breast cancer, during a storm the ocean can be a scary place to be BUT once the storm passes, it is a place of great peace and is my favorite place on the planet.  Missed my trip to the ocean last summer due to this stupid disease.  Will not miss it this year!

    Peace to all.

I chose groundhog because of bmx on 2/2/10 - Groundhog Day.  I couldn't think of anything more creative when registering.  Now that I'm past surgery I'm thinking I should add the year and be groundhog 2010 in case someone wants to use it next year lol.

notself has been my screen name for years and represents all the things that people label themselves as but aren't really them.  Now it represents "hair is not self", "breast is not self", "cancer is not self", "fear is not self".

Mine came from not wanting to use a name that was not as ordinary as mine....I'm from Illinois and I am a lady or female, girl --- whatever.  and when I first joined ( already had my name then ) I found a part of BC. org that was a thread that was directed at females from Illinois.  Love it here, love the thread....and though I've been out of tx for a long time feel that staying on the thread helps support and give comfort to those just coming on.

    Hugs, Jackie

My name is Elizabeth Ann. My mother's name is Elizabeth too. My Aunt Jean (bless her) did not want to call me little Elizabeth or Elizabeth Jr. So she came up with the nick name E B Ann. So my family calls me that. It has stuck ever since. So everyone else calls me Elizabeth. I loved my Aunt. This nick name has been very special to me.

When I was dx with breast cancer I emailed many family and friends. I wanted to update everyone...but didn't want to do constant emails.  I also did not want to post on facebook. So I decided to set up a twitter account.  I hadn't used twitter at all so this was all new to me.  I wanted to pick a user name that was upbeat to keep me positive through this journey. So, I thought of 'goodvibesonly'.

    That is my story....
