Does anyone heard about Gerson therapy?
Surfing in the internet I found this but I don't know how to evaluate it? Can you help?

Gerson is the father of all cancer diets. There is history this approach does cure some types of cancers. It's been around a long time. But the best news is many different forms of this diet is the main stay for many stage IV patients long term survival.

I've seen the movie "The Beautiful Truth" - well worth watching if anyone is concerned about truly understanding the many various influences on health that we are actually able to control. Discusses issues relating to Flouride, MSG, oral health as an indicator for total body health, Mercury, and of course Gerson Therapy as a cure for all types of diseases...
As well, a close friend cured himself of Cancer (prostrate) at age 80, and is living a healthy life in which his doctors claim that he is in better condition than most 25 year olds - his high blood pressure and cholestrol problems gone, amongst other things.
Another friend also cured herself of autoimmune disease and diabetes symptoms, including reversing her eye sight to the point where she no longer needs to wear glasses.
If you want to speak to either of these people, please email me and I'll connect you with either of these amazing people.
To health and happiness,

Nicky and Vivo,
Thanks for recommending the movie. I just watched it yesterday, and as soon as they began talking about juicing, I was hooked. I just purchased the other two movies at Amazon and Charlotte's book. The other movies are Dying to Have Known, and Gerson Miracle.
What puts everyone off is the coffee enemas. That's understandable. It's explained in the first few pages of Charlotte's book that I read on Amazon. When we detox our liver gets overwhelmed and it can't keep up, and trouble could start. The enema aids the liver in getting rid of the nasty stuff quicker. I expect her book will have juicing recipes and food advice that has been tried and tested over years and years. Thanks again.
-
Oh Rosemary tell us any good recipe! I am about to order the books.
-
Vivo,
I just ordered the book today. When we get them in, we'll have to compare notes. Do you juice? I'm all over foods for healing and this is the first I heard of Gerson. From what I understand, the therapy calls for juicing every hour. That would be for the people who are on their last legs walking into the clinic at the height of their disease. For myself, I only juice every other day.
-
Hi Everyone,
- Yes, thank you for recommending the movie. I downloaded it along with other information by Charlotte Gerson here:
- http://www.thefreelibrary.com/Andy+Lopez+has+made+Charlotte+Gerson's+webcsasts+available.-a0191350757 My Nat Doc recommended coffee enemas along with Bentonite which I was reluctant to do......but I did them until 3 days ago. There is also a radio show where Howard Strauss, who is Charlotte Gersons son was a guest. Very interesting......you can download it here: The Kentroversy Tapes - The Gerson Anti-Cancer Therapy (2007-07-29) http://kentroversytapes.blogspot.com/2007_07_01_archive.html
- Scroll almost to the bottom of the page.
- I read about the coffee and understood it's efficacy but I was still...well you know...
The movie Cud Terapii Gersona - The Gerson Miracle explains it very well along with juiciing and other information. It is in English but with Polish subtitles and you can watch it here: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=6169050139483021263As always,Grace"Every worthwhile accomplishment, big or little, has its stages of drudgery and triumph; a beginning, a struggle and a victory."Ghandi -
I'd like to see the movie also. I've learned a little bit about gerson. It sounds very regimented. I remember 13 as the number of times per day to drink juice. And it can't be just any juice, it needs to be juice from organic produce and run through a very expensive brand of juicer. I can get organic celery and carrots where I live and everything else is either not available at all or at least 4 times more expensive.
I also reacted strongly to the idea of coffee enemas. I've never had an enema in my life and I'm not particularly keen on starting. And in my book, there'd better not be anyone standing between me and my coffee! It's a tall order to convince me that coffee is bad to drink but it's ok to put up my butt???
Now that I've done more reading, my view has softened. I've read explanations that actually convince me that it makes sense to not drink coffee while we can benefit from it in an enema. I've read enough about colonics and enemas to where I am now contemplating them as possibilities.
I've gone 3 weeks without milk now. Every few weeks ever since I finished radiation back in 2005 I've been trying 'one more thing' to get rid of my fatigue. If I made a list, it would be quite lengthy by now. I won't stop until my fatigue is at the curb. Any kind of enema, and more specifically, a coffee enema, will definitely be something I'm willing to try to get rid of my fatigue.
-
I got the documentary in called: Dying To Have Known, some more about the Gerson Therapy and how Japanese Dr's are very impressed. They are studying patients now who come into their hospital and they put them on the diet. They show films of how one man's tumor is shrinking before their eyes. One of the Dr.s himself has been on the juicing plan and has been in remission for 15 years from colon cancer that metastasized. He's impressed. I'm still waiting for the book.
-
I receive regular e-newsletters from the Mayo Clinic. Lots of good information in them. Last week's edition had information about Gerson Therapy as well as a few other diets/procedures that claim cancer fighting properties. It was definitely worth reading. I'm sure it's available online.
-
I went to look for it on line, and put a search in and nothing came up. I hope the Mayo Clinic has nice things to say. Here at BC.org, they aren't saying nice things about the therapy.
"Gerson therapy
Gerson therapy is a metabolic therapy, meaning it focuses on the chemical functions of the body. Gerson therapy uses a combination of special diets and other elements to try to remove so-called "toxins" from the body that are supposedly causing the disease. Gerson therapy practitioners believe that women with breast cancer have too much sodium in their bodies - so much so that it outweighs the potassium. Gerson therapy involves a very strict low-salt, low-fat, vegetarian diet, and includes drinking juice from approximately 20 pounds of freshly squeezed fruits and vegetables per day. It also includes coffee enemas. There is no scientific evidence that Gerson therapy effectively reduces breast cancer progression or improves survival. Harmful side effects may include malnutrition, severe dehydration, and electrolyte imbalances. Regular enemas can also cause trauma to the anus and rectum (the last two parts of your bowel)."
-
I was wondering how many POUNDS (20!!!) of vegetables it took a day to juice once an hour for 13 hours! It would be a full-time job! Sorry, I have to work full time to put basic food on my table, not expen$ive organic $tuff! What do I do in the middle of winter????? And it cannot be a centrifugal juicer either, oh my!
As for the salt theory, I have had no added salt for 16 years! Don't even have salt in the house. When I had my thryoid tumour they were even wondering about the iodine loss from salt I didn't have....
(I don't even used salted butter!) So that blows the breast cancer and salt link for me.
As for the coffee enema, I wouldn't have to do that as when I drink coffee it cleans me out. Also known as the 'broom that sweeps the stomach clean'.
So, unless someone was preparing all this for me and watching me for malnutrition, dehydration and electrolyte imbalances while I continue on with my life, I don't think Gerson will be in MY kitchen.
-
Keep in mind, that's the BC.Org retort to the Gerson therapy. I haven't received the book yet to know if any of the above is true. It doesn't even sound correct because of the malnutrition comment. A person with that many pounds of vegetables and fruits won't be malnourished. I would think the exact opposite would be taking place inside our bodies.
How does one dehydrate by drinking juices? Vegetables contain minerals, so there would be an electrolyte imbalance just by watching salt? Then I have an imbalance going on already.
From the little bit I know so far, a lot of people seek out this therapy because medical science couldn't heal them. They were sent home to make out their wills. If I were on my last legs, I can drink a juice every hour and do an enema. What the hey.
-
The Mayo Clinic did not provide support for the Gerson therapy as a bc cure and did also identify concerns. However, I don't feel qualified to summarize the report. I don't believe in any magic cures. After my first bc dx, I was eating organic and very healthy as well as exercising regularly.....I still got a second dx. We need to do whatever we can to stay healthy and a balanced diet is very important. I'm putting my faith in modern medicine and will do my part to live a healthy, balanced life. Whatever makes me feel better will be part of my routine. I think we will each find our own way and it's great to share. And if we are lucky, there will be a magic cure for us all.
-
I haven't seen the video, but am curious if digestive enzymes that support the liver and pancreas might be a better alternative than coffee enemas. Does Gerson mention digestive enzymes?
Seems like juicing 13 times a day could be a full-time job.
-
You'll get plenty of enzymes with juicing but the worry is the liver will be overwhelmed by toxins being released, too many of them all at once. So that's the idea behind the enemas. To aid the liver by getting rid of the toxins.
I just got the book in, and I read a theory from Gerson. Why this diet plan helps some and not others is because the liver might be too compromised at the get go, and all the healthy foods won't help that.
I just started reading it, but from what I see there's a maintenance plan and a different plan for the really sick. The really sick get the full treatment of hourly juices. I'll know more as I read on.
-
An enema would release toxins from the 26 feet of bowel. How does that help the liver? I would have thought it had passed the liver by that point. Or do they worry about what transfers by osmosis back into your system as it sits in your bowel?
I have IBS so NOTHING sits in my bowel. Not even a cup of tea! My liver is already compromised due to years of pain meds, so this is definitely a diet I would have to pass on!
-
Barbe,
I just looked up IBS in the book, and you wouldn't get coffee enemas. Chamomile tea is used instead. They avoid certain raw foods for your condition, but don't list them.
They do explain the enemas and how they work to get to the liver. It's the caffeine that does the cleansing. How it gets to the liver from the south end was explained in the documentaries that I watched. I'm not that familiar with anatomy to explain it.
-
Interesting Rosemary, I`ll have to re-look up IBS as it`s been years since I`ve checked on it. Thanks. Didn`t know about the raw food thing....
Now you know why I don`t drink coffee!
-
Barbe,
Exactly! I wish the book had more to say about it, but it didn't. If I find more, I'll post it here.
-
As I recall, coffee is used for enemas because it stimulates the liver into producing bile, which helps move the toxins in the digestive tract as a result of drinking all that juice. Drinking coffee is stressful for the adrenal glands, and the liver is generally overloaded in detoxing all the chemicals we encounter in everyday life. The coffee used for enemas is brewed in a much stronger strength than what anyone would drink. The internal organs are spared the chore of processing the coffee through normal channels, yet spurred into the necessary action needed for moving out anything sitting in the colon.
As an aside, I think it's important to comment on a potential side effect of detoxing, whether by gerson or other methods. It's common for people to feel nauseated or weak during a detox. It could be a signal that toxins are not being expelled fast enough and got reabsorbed, or it could just be a result of feeling yucky because toxins have moved from one place to another in the body.
We walk around with all kinds of toxins stored in our tissues and muscles. For those toxins to exit our bodies, they must be dislodged and moved into the colon for explusion. Feeling queasy is common during this process. I recently started on new supplements and felt really queasy the next day. Fortunately, I knew this is not uncommon, or I would've felt very discouraged at feeling ill after doing something I thought would bring improvement.
-
I was taking a powdered beet juice drink. It was suppose to do the same thing, make one queasy because beets supposedly helps the liver detox. I never got queasy, but I decided I'd rather just juice a beet instead.
I'm now on the chapters about sodium and potassium. What good sense that makes. Getting rid of the excess sodium in our body which in turn gets rid of the excess fluids we're holding such as the fluids people hold when they suffer from congestive heart failure. When I think of salt, I think of how corrosive it is to metals if left on long term. I'll have to keep reading.

Hi Everyone,
Rosemary * I purchased the Gerson Book "A Cancer Therapy" along with the video tapes before my surgery but have yet to read it. The tapes are in route. Here are the titles:
TAPE 1 = HEALING INCURABLE ILLNESS
TAPE 2A & 2B = CANCER HOME WORKSHOP
TAPE 3 = GERSON THERAPY FOOD PREPARATION
I will try to start reading tonight. Did you have a chance to view the links I posted? Very interesting. The audio by Charlotte Gersons' son explains in detail why the coffee enemas are useful. He also explains that juicing is extremely work intensive.
If anyone is in need of a juicer Jack La Lane has a deal going for $25.00 plus shipping. I purchsed one on sale for $79.99 but the clean-up was annoying so I purchased the Health Master. I also negotiated a deal and purchased it for $9.99 shipping (instead of $29.99) and 3 payments of $49.99 instead of 4. Doesn't hurt to ask.....
Barbe1958 * You and others sent me virtual hugs when I was newly dx and walikng a tightrope. You helped to reel me in and I am forever grateful. Thank you.......

Grace,
I'm a foodie, I believe in food over vitamins. The problem is, it's impossible to eat all the foods necessary to heal something. So when I found out about Gerson's juicing plans.. Oh happy Days. I'm on chapters 3 & 10 talking about salt and potassium. I also liked the beginning chapter on how Gerson came up with the idea of food being able to heal.
For those who don't have the book, he suffered for 3 days in every week from migraines and decided to go to the med library to look up anything on it. He found this one blurb from a Dr. in Italy who mentioned one of his patients cured her migraines with food. It didn't say any more.
So he decided to test himself on foods to see if it actually worked. He started with only drinking milk, nothing else. That didn't work. Then he tried only eating apples and the migraines went away. He then added other foods to see what would trigger the migraine and what didn't, and the rest is history. He found a food formula for curing migraines. Then on to accidental finds about his formula curing other diseases.
He'd fall over today if he saw the ingredients in some in our foods, and how they managed to deaden our natural foods by chemical use in the soils, pasturizing, for our good, and the food becomes worthless, or even harmful to us. To say the least, I'm enjoying the book.
-
It has been very well known for a very long time that certain foods trigger migraines, among them, cheddar cheese! (as well as additives like MSG) I suffered for years from migraines. Your body chemistry changes about every 7 years, so I 'out grew them'....and grew into allergies!
I have not had added salt in my home for over 20 years as a result of high blood pressure (don't even have a salt shaker and can't make bread as you need salt to react with the yeast to make it rise!) It has made no difference on water retention or not, in fact, some say you need the salt to bind with the water to flush your system! But I get edema when I drink extra water and that adds to my high blood pressure.
I know that wheat is a pretty powerful food allergy that can wreak havoc on your system...research Candida as well. Pretty interesting stuff!
-
I wish modern medicine could have helped a friend of mine who really suffered from migraines. This was back in the late 70's. If they knew anything about avoidance of certain foods, or adding in different kinds, they didn't pass it along to her. She would have done anything.
-
It was in the late 70's that I got my migraines. That's when I learned so much about the cheddar cheese and red wine (tanic acid!) and the MSG. I used to have blood vessels in my eyes burst so all my white was red. They were horrid headaches. I tried everything including suppositories, believe it or not! Even ergotamine under my tongue. I remember when they stopped and I actually cried I was so relieved. Took about 5-6 years.
-
Barbe,
It sounds like had you known about Gerson's therapy back then, you might have tried that too. I'm happy they went away for you.
I'm thinking of giving the high potassium diet and no salt a try for the next 3 days to see if it works to get rid of excess fluids that I know I'm holding.
I do know the same thing happens on a high protein diet, no carbs, and drink loads of water. Those first couple of days is all fluid loss. I'd rather do it the Gerson way though. High potassium foods are much healthier to eat.
-
Be careful of long-term high potassium as it affects your heart, just like too low of a potassium level does. Watch out for muscle cramps!
-
We usually don't get enough potassium. I'm going to keep it to the recommended amount of 5000 milligrams a day, either through foods or pills. I've read that in too many places, we tend to overlook our potassium needs and thus get into trouble, hold water, have heart problems, bone problems, etc. Muscle cramps are usually fixed with magnesium that I take anyway. Thanks.
