Kari, my thoughts and prayers are with Corissa, her family, Krystle and you. I hope everything works out well.  Also congrats to you on a clear scan!

Well, did a long workout on the elliptical this morning, had to , pigged out last night, oink oink oink! Couldn't go walking with the puppy as it snowed this morning, yes, I woke up to snow! We don't walk in the snow. It is gone now thank goodness.

Hope everyone has a great rest of the weekend.

Kari ~ Thank God Corissa survived that accident.  I have been and will continue to lift her & her baby up in prayer, along with her family & friends.  And I'm so happy that your bone scan was clear!  Yay!!!!!

Good to hear from EWB, patoo, and PK.  Keep up the good work, ladies!  Your efforts motivate me, too, and I need all the motivation I can get!  Love the sound of your stretching workout, EWB.  That sounds so great for aching muscles!

Kari: so sorry to hear that.  My best wishes will stay with the family and please keep us updated.  How hard this must be I can not imagine.  I am so sad to hear comments about her riding a VESPA pregnant.  Like car accidents don't happen to pregnant women?  Besides that is about as accurate and helpful and someone telling you that you got breast cancer because you ate too much, weighed too much, didn't exercise too much etc. Why can't people keep that to themselves.

EWB: so happy to hear that.  Doesn't matter if it isnt as "active" as zumba or walking miles, it sounds like exactly the right activity for you, and that is the point--just to keep moving at a fun and sustainable pace. Congratulations and keep us posted

A pigout never hurt anybody (sometimes helps) its 3 or 4 in a row that will get you.  Everything in moderation.

Thanks for the motivation ladies.  We don't have snow, but we've had the worst crappy rainy cold spring.  My work is about to get really busy and off the lower scale it was in while I recuperated so not experiencing any nice days before the you know what hits the fan has really got me down.  Needed the motivation to keep moving.

I just wanted to say I love all you ladies, you are so compassionate, loving and motivating!!  Thank you for all your caring thoughts, prayers and posts.

Krystle called in with an update on Corissa late yesterday afternoon.  Krystle made a posterboard and put pictures of Corissa and her husband Matt at their wedding and other photos and made it very festive and brought markers for people to sign who visit.  She was able to hear the baby's heartbeat, which was strong - the placenta tore and she's being watched closely.  She was headed to surgery for the jaw wiring.  The arm she landed on snapped in half above the elbow so they set that, they are trying to avoid excessive xrays and surgery for the baby's sake.  She's squeezing hands and was able to write "work?" and they told her don't worry about that, just heal.

Got in a long walk yesterday and some gardening.  We had to replace a tree and DH was a stud, and my legs are sore from all the up and down work out there!  Ready for some stretching and then heading to where the trails are!  DH is gone for work til Thurs and it should be a beautiful day, it is breezy out there too.

EWB - that's wonderful you found an exercise program you like!!  I am so happy!!

Patoo - you are doing a great job!  Anything, that gets us off our tushies is quite good!!  Gets the blood flowing!

Pk - can't believe the snow and you made me laugh with the oink oink oink...we do 'gotta' live it up once in awhile don't we?  would be so boring if we didn't LOL!  Moderation indeed!!

kmmd - Some people just don't get it.  My DH was telling me he wanted to smack this lady at work cause she said I got cancer cause I'm a bad person with bad karma!!!!!!  She said 'only bad people get cancer, she has bad karma and doesn't eat right'...I couldn't believe it.  Hang in there regarding work - and hoping for warm weather for you!!  Where do you live?

Thanks again to all of you for the kind words and prayers for Corissa, the baby, and her family.  I will pass them along.

And as always, THANKS for the motivation!!  Wink

Just watched a show "Pilates for Bodies" on PBS and a nutritionist gave a nutritious recipe for Bone Healthy Salad:

Spinach & Broccoli - (Vit. K; Calcium; Magnesium)

Yellow Bell Pepper - (Vit. K)

Parmesan Cheese & Sesame Seeds - (Nutrient dense calcium)

Raisins - (Rich in Boron for bone health)

    Salmon - (Vit. D; Omega 3s)

    Walnuts - (Magnesium; Omega 3s)

Avocado - (increases absorption of all nutrients in the salad)

Top with Omega 3 rich Olive Oil and flavor with Balsamic vinagrette

    (Magnesium builds strong bones and relaxes muscles and nerves - helps with cramps;
Vit. K secures calcium into bones
    Vit. D helps absorb calcium)

I wrote all the above info from what she said...I had it on DVR so I could press pause and write!

    Hi Ladies,

Took a break from the computer this weekend. But didn't stop moving! 22 miles this week, and lost a little weight! Good! We both decided to take today "off" as we went hard 6 days in a row. My body felt so tired last night! I think a rest day is in order!

Vivre, Stooopid question about the bread crumbs. Do you just stick the bread in the food processor without toasting it first? (and the herbs)? Just stick them all in there and bzzzzzzzzzzzz??

I noticed that special breads at Trader Joe's and BJs (baked fresh on site) don't have the icky ingredients, but i am still going to get the bread maker down!!

Kari, I hope pray that Corissa keeps her baby! What a horror.  And glad your bone density is fine! Woot!

    Spring.

Kari-I wouldn't pay much attention to people who tell you why You got cancer. It is their own way of denying that it could happen to them. By saying they are not like you, they think they are impervious.

I had such rage when I was dx. I could look at 95% of my family who had a lot more bad habits than I did, and they did not get cancer. Especially, the women. Breast cancer is very rare in my family. Even my obese cousins do not have it. But they will end up with diabetes or heart disease, only one aunt in generations. At least I had an early stage cancer that was curable, and I now can be proactive in preventing a recurrance. I also think that getting bc will save me from the diabetes or heart problems that plaque my overweight and undernourished relatives. Yeah, I did a lot more right than they did, and I still got cancer, but I know now that I still did a lot wrong. It was a wake up call for me to take my health more seriously. Next, time someone makes a nasty comment, just retort back " Gee, I hope you are not giving out bad karma with that comment. What goes around comes around."

Meanwhile, I am granny sitting, and not able to get any of my exercise in. On top of that, I am walking at a snail's pace because she cannot move. Here is another lesson for me. If I am lucky enough to live to be 95, I hope that my new regime will give me a better quality of life.

Just leave bread out to the air and let it go "stale", then just crumble it all up into bread crumbs. If you want to speed things along, can put slices in the oven at really low temp (like 180) to help the bread dry out.

    Good luck.

Good morning, ladies ~  Kari, how's Corissa doing today?  I know you'll keep us posted.  And thanks for sharing that recipe.  As I was making myself a salad last night, I found myself thinking about what adding a particular ingredient would do for my body -- not just the taste of it.  So it was a good lesson in that way.

Spring ~  Sounds like you got a lot of walking in!  Good for you!  And I think it's great that your DH does it with you.  Is he into it as much as you are, or do you have to prod him?

I only walked 12.75 miles last week.  Don't know why, but I missed a few days or walked so late that I couldn't rack of the miles.  But I have noticed that my jeans are starting to feel quite loose, even though I've only dropped a couple of pounds.

vivre ~  That's so nice that you're taking care of your Granny for a few days.  Aside from the lack of exercise, I hope she's alert enough to share family stories or stories about her childhood and young adulthood, which can be so interesting when we take the time to ask questions and listen.        Deanna

Deanna, DH is typically a prodder that gets us both out of bed in the dark!  :)  He thinks of this exercise as a "chemo treatment" for me, but non toxic, and actually GOOD for you! He is such a dear man. Plus, I think he really likes the walking too. If we don't walk and he finds me on the cross-trainer, he'll say, "Good for you Bev getting in your exercise!". He is my cheer leader!

Deanna and Vivre, I think of you two if I top over 20 miles in a week! You are my inspiration!

Have any of you started to feel light-headed at all? I am thinking it is maybe lack of water, lots of exercise, and very low blood pressure. Sometimes, after bending over in the garden, when I stand up, I'll "see black" and have to hold onto something for a bit and wait for it to "pass". Doesn't take long, but is a little annoying!

Spring ~  I just returned from an hour walk, and I was also noticing that I felt a bit light-headed today, and I have other times, as well.  I think it could be low blood pressure, which I'm sure we both have (I know I do) from our exercising and being fit.   Mild dehydration could play a part, too, especially if you've been out in the sun.

That's great that your DH is so supportive.  Mine is, too -- short of actually walking with me -- although he will do a hike on weekends if we take the time to drive somewhere more interesting than our own neighborhood.   Deanna

Hi ladies!  Got in a good long walk on one of the trails yesterday.  I said Hi to people as they passed and it is interesting how many people will not make eye contact.  Here you are out in the middle of nowhere it feels like in this beautiful setting and some just won't do it and you find yourself on the part of the trail where its just you and them.  I'm so opposite, miss smiley, maybe they see me coming and say oh noooo there's miss smiley! LOL!   (I don't walk with a smile plastered on my face, just when I'm approaching someone)

Corissa not only had her jaw wired but a tracheotomy over the weekend.  Waiting for another update!!  Krystle wanted me to thank all of you for your well wishes/prayers.

Vivre, I too kept looking around when dx cause I was always the one who exercised, ate right, etc. and wondered how the heck did I get 'c'?  A guy in my office this a.m. said maybe getting bc was a blessing in the sense that it made me slow down a bit and really think about life...who knows...Enjoy Granny, and like Deanna said, maybe if she's still sharp she can tell you some neat stories!!  How long are you granny sitting?

I never report in how many miles I do each week, cause I'm not sure!!  I don't have a pedometer on and I vary the walking routine.  I usually try and drive to guage, which I haven't done yet, and can't on the trails! heehee.  You girls going long distances are AWESOME! WOW

Spring, your DH is a KEEPER!!!!  I have always felt light headed due to a lower blood pressure.  Its worse though in the heat.  My daughters have the same thing happen in fact one passed out from it once while getting up too fast.  Just make note and be careful after bending over...something I deal with all the time.  p.s., I had the bone scan (for mets) not the bone density test, that's why I was so nervous about the results!  but onc emailed me this a.m. that it showed 'degenerative changes', which happens to joints as we get older, nothing to worry about.

Low Blood Pressure better than high any day, so we'll just deal with the "seeing black" moments!

Do you know, during chemo, by BP went a bit high, which was a totally NOT ME thing. I was so glad it came down again to my normal low during rads. THe Rads onc actually remarked, something is wrong, your Blood pressure is so low, how are you feeling? I was like, I feel fine! THis is normal for me!!!! Just goes to show you how much chemo can mess you up...

Have to remember to drink water, but then I have to pee!!! I can't seem to stay hydrated during walks because of all the peeing!!! LOL. Maybe I need to wear a "depends" on walks! LOL!!! You just wait and see, they'll come up with a "sport" version!!! ewwwwwwwwwww!!!!! :O

Kari, I am the same on walks, I like to say hey. Some people are in their own worlds!!

Spring, you are too funny with the Depends for walks! I also get light-headed easily...

Kari--thanks for the updates on Corissa--we'll keep sending prayers and good thoughts.

I am happy to hear you can make breadcrumbs without toasting, etc.  I will try that as I do make my own bread in the breadmaker--in fact I have some in there right now! My favorite is a brown bread even though it has a little molasses but it's not that much sugar for a whole loaf, or at least that is what I tell myself! :)

Ok--have to share my bonehead moment today...as I mentioned, was making bread and went to chk on it but the ingredients weren't even mixed together even though it was on the Rise part of the cycle. I figured out that I had forgotten to put the paddle in there! Oh no...
So I restarted it after sticking the paddle in there but I suspect that it is not going to work. I hated to throw out all the stuff and start over since I JUST put it all away so thought I would wait to see if it rises....

    Sigh.  :)

Spring, I have one of those too.  Total cheerleader.  He'll cook supper to simmer before I get home so we can get a walk in and then come home and eat if there isn't enough time to do both after I get home.  It is our priority every night and everything revolves around it.  Has too, I'm hoping to get as much benefit out of it as I got out of chemo

Carissa (was spelling her name wrong) will be out of ICU on Thurs and her hubby says she looks good!! woohoo!

My blood pressure has been HIGH each time I go in for an Avastin infusion every 3 wks.  They take it before they get the IV in...after the IV is in and the treatment is underway, boom...back down to my normal low!!  The nurse last week told me some people have 'white coat syndrome'...see a dr's white coat and their bp spikes high!  so weird cause I am laughing while they are taking it, inside I must be a mess!!

Spring, my DH thinks something is wrong with me cause I pee all the darn time!  You CRACKED me up with your depends talk! LOL, but I do drink a lot of water.  I drank so much during chemo, my sodium levels dropped and was order to lay off the water!

Allie hope the bread rises!!  shoot, I'm hungry and one more hour to go before leaving work!

Love those supportive family members too!!!!!!!!!!!

I walked the trail behind work at lunch today, some of it was marked for mileage...shy of 2 miles, but let me tell you it got hot and these black slacks weren't helping any!  I was sweaty when I came back inside, but all is well!  Maybe get the bike out tonight!

Almost 3 years from dx and I am doing great, lost 50 pounds this year, mostly because I got braces, which was an affirmation of life. The time passes, you feel better and better, and the woman in the mirror starts to reflect that. Give yourself a break...you've been through a lot. You'll know when you are ready to embrace life's really good stuff again (not comfort food!)

I am going to crack out my breadmaker! You all have inspired me! I am sure I will be back with questions!

Eileen, 50 lbs woman! Woot! Great for you!!! Braces as diet aid, lol!!! I love that "affirmation of life".

Today I did 3.7 "miles" on the cross trainer, and as usual, was drenched with sweat. Feels good to have that behind me!

Kari, we should lobby the Depends company for a sports version!!! LOL!!! Just think of all the toxins we are flushing out! It is really important to drink a lot of filtered water... My new SIGG bottles should be here soon!

Today I have my "church circle" friends over for a dinner, (~15 of the best girlfriends a woman can have!) the other circle leader and me. (I was not much of a leader this past year with my diagnosis! But did rally at the end! But boy, were they good to me!!!). Anyway. Made a home-made cheese cake, yes, full of dairy and eggs and even sugar. I will have a very tiny bit and focus on the berries!!!

I keep reminding myself it is okay to have a little, I am applying Virve's 80/20 rule tonight. It is a special night!

As our Lisa says, " Make it a great day " !!! :)

Eileen - Hi! 3 yrs!! WAHOO!!  and 50 lbs!  Braces are a diet in themselves, I had them at age 19 and lost 5 lbs, but for me 5 lbs made me look like very bony!!  I like that you said the woman in the mirror reflects that you feel better and better!

Spring - 3.7 miles already girl?!!  WOW!!!!!!  I still need to invest in those SIGG bottles, but am drinking filtered water.  The 80/20 rule is what my onc and nutritionist said too!  You are lucky to have such good girlfriends - very special indeed!  depends sports version - LOL LOL!!

Well after going to Trader Joes after work and then eating dinner, I fell asleep at 7:30 for the night!!  Can you believe it?  I was just plain ole pooped out!!  oh dear...

    Lisa, where are you??

    Good Fabulous Morning Divas!!!!!

Sorry I've been MIA....life has been a whirlwind these days!  I switch from Diva party mode to Zumba fanatic in a blink of an eye! LOL  Last night I mixed things up a bit for my class and added a new song.  At one point one of my students yelled out, "Somebody pull her battery!"  ROFL  That is what they get for getting comfortable!

My son, DIL and the grandsons are coming into town tomorrow for a few days...can't wait to squeeze the grandbabies!

Glad to hear Carissa is doing well!  I also want to welcome any newbies...I haven't had a chance to go back and read all the posts!

Oh, wanted to share a recipe that I love to make this time of year...my family loves it!  It's a fruit salsa that we eat on cinnamon chips that I make with whole wheat tortillas.

    Salsa:

2 Granny smith apples chopped, 1 cup chopped strawberries, 3 kiwi peeled and chopped, juice from small orange or tablespoon of lemon juice (whatever you have).  2 tablespoons apple jelly, melted, 2 tablespoons brown sugar.

Mix fruit together.  Mix jelly with brown sugar and add to fruit mixture.  Serve with cinnamon chips.

To make cinnamon chips...take your tortillas and brush them with water.  Sprinkle with cinnamon/sugar mixture and cut into 8 wedges.  Place in single layer on ungreased baking sheet.  Bake in 400 degree oven for 8 minutes.

Enjoy and make it a great day!!!!!!!!  I'm glad to see you using this phrase!  I never liked "have a good day"...we all need to make it a great day.  Our life is in our control...we get to choose what kind of day we have!

Well I'm off.......meeting with a new business partner!

    Hugs!

    Lisa
