Hi Deanna, Just read about you going in for an ultrasound because of a bump you felt. I am going through the same thing. They think it is probably scar tissue or cyst because it is sooo superficial, but just the same, I can't stop thinking about it. I am due for the mammo & ultrasound on the 16th. I know it's nothing, just all these tests, etc..Other than that - and allergies! - I'm terrific. Still trying to clean up my diet (especially sugar.) Take care, Debi

YAY! Got up this morning went to the gym and did 1 hour aquacise class and then another 30 minutes jogging in the pool. I can't jog on the treadmill but it's so easy in water. Then went grocery shopping so that was walking for another hour then to Home Depot checking prices on bath vanities, sinks and a toilet. So I think I got plenty of movement in today. Plan to go back to the gym and pool tomorrow straight from church. Like Debi I need to clean up my eating habits. Thanks for keeping me motivated.

HI all,
My cheeks are still sore from Jeff Dunham last night, Don't think I have laughed that much in months!!!
Off to take Max for another walk. Hope everyone has a great day.
Penny
-
Allie, did you pack the dog in the car and go for a hike?
Go Patoo!
PK, sounds like your cheeks had a work out!! LOL. Isn't it great to laugh??
We did our 4.4 mile look yesterday and today, but missed church! I guess I have to get up earlier. It's too hot to walk later... but last night we had an improptu dinner party that was thrown together at the last minute, so I was pooped! Went well though. DH's parents had out of town guests and couldn't decide what to do (since it was so hot out) so asked if they could come over! Luckily we were just going out to the grocery stores, so I picked up a few things and took chicken otut of the freezer! The house was all tidy from having my Circle girlies over on Tuesday night. But I was too pooped to get up early for a walk.
Anyway, I am rambling on!
Hope you all are having a gr8 wkend!
Spring.

Hi all you motivated cuties!! and good to see Pk, Patoo, kmmd, Allie and Debisongbird (glad you found us, haven't seen you since the rads board)
Wow I've missed a lot since Friday before leaving work! I also took Friday off and it paid off cause my leg soreness dissapated!! yeah!
So good to see we all motivate one another. I have found myself doing more and thinking more about what I eat, etc. because of this site. I made a yummy zucchini bread (we have so many zucchini in the garden!) yesterday and DH loved it and took most of it to work today. He wants me to make more for gifts for people. Need to get to the store then for more ingredients.
Saw my longtime best friend yesterday and her 3 girls and granddaughter! so cute. Was good to visit, I sure miss her! Walked only 25 min. last night, but the sun was a bit too strong!! DH was my trainer for some light arm work on the new gym - love that thing!! Have to wait to do leg work after PT gives me the thumbs up...I was sweating like a little piggie (toxins out YES).
Heading off to the trail by my work, since its so pretty and hilly there, before it gets too warm.
Spring, I've been thinking about adding a little running in also. I used to do that walk/run thing with my girls when they lived at home and many years ago did that faithfully and ended up being able to run over a mile! Good for me cause I'm not a runner!! I did run (well scoot) across the street to miss a car recently and felt such pulling at the mx site...hmmm
Lisa, KUDOS big time to you for all that zumba boogying at the relay! I couldn't have done it!! Wish you could bottle your energy for me!!
Here's looking forward to another week of motivating one another, getting more tests with great results under our belts and making each day a GREAT and fabulous day!
Learn from yesterday, live for today and hope for tomorrow!!

What a beautiful day! It is so great how I never take them for granted anymore. Beamer and I headed out the the forest preserve. Lots of bikers and horseback riders and walkers with their kids and dogs. The path goes around a lake where folks were testing out the kayaks and canoes, and families were picnicing and playing frisbee and corn bag. Everyone was so happy. We have had such a cold wet spring that people are really appreciating the few nice days so far. It is hard to believe it is midJune. The only people who were not smiling were the runners. Why do runners always look miserable? It is like they are running right past all the joy if you ask me. As I was riding along I actually got emotional thinking about how lucky I was to have this blessed day. And I said a prayer for all you girls who haven't come to this point yet and ridden out of that dark tunnel of cancer, that I hope that you will find you way out soon. Near the end of my ride I came upon a young girl in a panic with her doggie looking a bit stressed. I stopped and offered her some water for him and she said she had gotten lost. The trails are a bit confusing. She was about 4 miles from her car and half a mile from mine so I walked back with her and then drove her and the doggie back to where their car was. So I did my good deed for the day. I am not sure that dog would have made it back the other way. Life is just beautiful sometimes.

Didn't get to the gym after church but came to this thread and read some then went out and took a walk. I'll get there!

Hi dears,
Well, I have arrived! Getting a little exercise on my wii Fit, swimming, and walking but need a bit more motivation to do more. Part of it is my schedule keeps changing, now it is summer and not only are the kids out of school but in addition to my 11 y.o. I am "babysitting" his 12 y.o. friend for some hours every day after camp. It was a tough weekend, a bat mitzvah Saturday morning, a bead show Saturday afternoon (real tough huh!) then today soccer games and the pool. I had to go to soccer twice because someone forgot to tell me the time changed. So we drove the 15 min and back to/from the field twice.
-
Hi all--what beautiful weather this weekend--finally!! Did take the dog for a hike on Sat--beautiful views along the coast. Didn't go as long as I wanted to b/c my dog picked up a "friend" on the beach and he was tagging along with us! I was afraid his owner would miss him (even though I asked around before we went hiking and couldn't find his "human"). Too funny.
Today I am sorry to say involved NO exercise but a fun drive with my DH up to wine country with the top down (the car, not me--ha!). Had a great lunch, went to two wineries and drive home. Very fun. Tomorrow I am back to dog walking and yoga...!
-
Kari, please share zuccini bread recipe!! I loved being called a "cutie"
20+ miles of fast walking last week! I took today off again, Mondays seem to be my "rest" day.
Hey Deanna and Virve, I think we might be walking near 4 mi and hour now! I am really starting to focus on walking faster, I am leaving my DH in the dust, though he is carrying two 8 lb weights! LOL
Spring.

Hey, Spring ~ I feel like I'm following you from one thread to another today...
Did you tell us your mileage total for last week? Mine was 19.3. Broken down, that was 4.0, 4.64, 1.86, 5.05, 0, 0, and 3.75. I'm sharing that only to make the point that you don't have to be "perfect" every day. I walked late on Wednesday, then not at all on Friday or Saturday. I'm learning it's important to keep the "big picture" in mind, and not beat yourself up or throw in the towel if you miss a day or even two. I also counted my running steps 'cause we were talking about that, and 200 is about the most I can do in one spurt right now, so I have plenty of room for improvement.
patoo ~ So glad this thread motivated you to walk! You also mentioned a trip to Home Depot. Are you doing some bathroom remodelling? Oh, oh ... we just went through that -- the 3 day project that turned into 10, and at least 50 trips to Lowe's & Home Depot. (I even looked up Lowe's stock at one point because they were really hopping every time I was there.) Anyway, I can give you a list of the pitfalls to watch out for if you need it, as I think we fell victim to everyone of them. At one point my DH suggested we could be on that HGTV renovation show for idiot remodellers. It was that bad.
Annie ~ Good to see you here!
Penny ~ I don't know who Jeff Dunham is, but I'm wondering if he's on YouTube or where I can see him if he's that funny. We all need to laugh more!
Have a great week, ladies! Deanna

Good morning cuties!! (Spring I do like that!!) sounds 'motivating'
Vivre, what a lovely picture you painted in my mind of your beautiful day through the preserve and around the lake!! I think I need to visit Chicago!! sounds very nice! So they call it the windy city, is it windy all the time?? Good deeds feel so good don't they? That poor gal and her pooped pooch, then along came you!!
Penny, this thread is working!! YES!! getting you motivated, you go girl!!
Allie, funny about not finding the 'human' that belonged to the pooch!! Your weekend sounded very nice!!
Welcome Annie!! I remember when my girls were younger and I worked for the school system so had summers off. I would hold exercise classes for them and the neighbor girls (well maybe your boys would get into the Wii thing!)...It was fun, although it sounds like you're kept busy with their sports stuff.
Spring and Deanna, ok you two, you really inspire me!! you must go thru tennies like crazy! I can just see smoke coming out of the soles! LOL!!!
So yesterday I ended up in my old 'hood' and went for a long walk around the golf course. It was a bit challenging as I haven't done that walk in a long time...its pretty hilly and that's what got me, well that and the hot sun...3.2 miles, but it took me an hour! I had to stop and watch a deer that was so close to me (I just stood there smiling), then DH called me (worried that I was doing too much, he always worries about me). Anyway, that last hill about did me in..i was so sore again! Then later my DD called and she brought the dogs and her honey over and we walked to the dog park (I tell ya I was about limping, LOL)...but I did it...and that was after walking around an outdoor shopping center too. DD is coming over tonight, tomorrow and Wed night!! for dinner and exercising! I am soooo happy about that!!
Oh so I made this recipe, but have to say I did use the 3 eggs and the 1 cup sugar (want to try some agave nectar, but didn't have any)
1 Cup Sugar
1/2 cup canola oil
1/2 cup applesauce
3 eggs
2 tsp vanilla
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
1 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp baking powder
2 cups whole wheat flour
1 cup white flour
2 cups shredded zucchini
Mix sugar, oil, applesauce, eggs, and vanilla. Add rest of ingredients ending with zucchini. Fill 1 loaf pan 3/4 of the way full. If there is extra, I make a couple of muffins. Bake at 350 for 45 minutes.
I want to try this one:
-
Deanna - I think it's called "Over Your Head" - I used to be an HGTV groupie. Then I turned 60 and decided to leave it all to the experts.
I wouldn't call it a remodel. Just need to replace the vanity and top in my son's bathroom and vanity, top and toilet in mine. Yeah, it costs an arm and leg but at least it's done right. If I were to do it no telling where the water lines would end up! LOL Most I do now is paint and I will probably give that up as well. Once painted a 5-Br, 3B, LR, DR, K, Den all by myself. Here in the townhouse I've painted my son's BR twice, 1 full and 1 half bath, kitchen and upstairs hall. I have cathedral ceilings in the stairwells and since the foyer and DR run off of it I think I will let the professionals finish that as well as the LR, my BR and bath. I'm tired just thinking about it and it's hard work. Now if I can just find the money for all that!
Since I can't come to this thread unless I do something I'm going to take a quick walk or 2 around my office building. Later all.
-
Someone sent me an email this morning that included this, and I immediately thought of all of you, too ~
-
Ooops... I was trying to post a cute illustration (above) that someone just emailed me, but I obviously don't know how! Will read up on it and try again ~

Saw my new PCP today and I loved her!! Also, I win a prize for having the BEST cholesterol levels! YEAH!! I had done a fasting blood test this weekend. All my 'plumbing' is working great she said! LOL! She will put in orders to have my Vit. D levels checked, but she said chemo can alter those, but she will check anyhow. She also looked up past xrays from 2004 where I was complaining of back/neck pain and she said the old 'degenerative' word again and said arthritis too!! ouch! She referred me to get Acupuncture for the neck/back issues, then said when I'm through with that she will refer me to a physical therapist (seeing one now for the hip thing) to work out the tight neck/shoulder muscles! I'm soooo excited! I had been wanting to go get acupuncture, but its expensive! The only thing off in my blood work was my AST level, it is 2 points higher than the range says. She said that's nothing to worry about and most likely stems from the Avastin infusions I'm getting. I've watched it go up 2 points each 3-wk period that I get blood work.
She said keep up the good work with the exercise. She said I look fit and by my test results I should be proud! Exercise builds bone density she said. Also, can take a multi without iron (my current one has iron) and calcium and Vit. D.
Carissa update: Her trach tube was downgraded from an 8 to a 4 (next step is baby size), she walked a little...she's still being fed thru a feeding tube through the nose that she's trying to rip out (bad girl), but doing well. The baby is doing good and its a girl!

Hi ladies (aka cuties)--
I did my 2.25 mile loop today with the dog which includes a good size incline so that was good. I am still feeling crappy from the cold that won't fully arrive and won't LEAVE...also I had weird things happen last night after doing some intense stretching of my arm and shoulder--it was really tight since I hadn't been to yoga all week and when I got up from that (do it laying on a foam roller on the floor) was nauseous and had a headache which lasted all night. Ugh. I think maybe I loosened up the lactic acid that gets stored in muscles. I know when you get a massage they always tell you to drink a lot of water to flush it all out and that you might feel queasy afterward--so I was thinking that is what it was. Yuck though! I will need to stretch more often--I hate the idea of all that floating around--I hope it has left by now. Was going to take yoga this afternoon but am feeling like skipping it...
-
Hi All,
Deanna check out Jeff Dunham on YouTube, or just google his name. He has Peanut, who is a nut case, Walter-grumpy old man, Achmed-the dead terrorist and Jose a jalapeno on a stick. It is worth looking up!
Kari-feel like I am going to let you down as no exercise today, think I am coming down with the boy's flu, yup my kid came down with the flu 2 days before finals! Going to go lay down for a nap, will try again tomorrow.
Good news on everyones scans, tests, renos and all the other stuff. Keep going all!
Penny

Big fat bummer for you cuties with colds/flu stuff going on - YUCKO!!
Allie, more than once after getting massages, I get the worst headaches that will not leave til the next day!! Toxins floating around big time that get loosened up! Take it easy girl and rest.
Penny, you could never let me down...well maybe if you were feeling great and never exercised! LOL!! Get some rest and take good care!!
Trying out a new recipe from Giada on Food Network tonight with DD - Based Penne with Roasted Veggies - will use whole wheat pasta and low fat cheese!! hope its good

Sorry but I've been slacking!! I still walk my dog twice a day but that is it for exercising. I went kayaking one day last week but had to cut it short because of some black clouds and I didn't want to get caught out in a storm. The storms on Friday night took my phone out and my wireless. That is why I haven't been on here. Finally got everything back on this afternoon. I seem to have a problem getting my butt up and out the door. I have cut down on the sugar intake but what is it about the dairy products? The other office girl quit (didn't show up for two days) so now I am stuck on night shift for a while and hopefully they hire someone soon. I look at my bike but that is it. I have no energy. I have never been like this. Any suggestions? After kayaking the other day I took a three hour nap. Don't know if it is the heat or me!! And it is just June. When I go to my GYN I'll ask about vitamins or something. I don't go back to my ONC till August. I'm off the next two days. I need to mow the yard and hopefully get motivated to do something else. I don't have a partner to get me going and thank heavens the dog doesn't talk. I'm just down on myself today. Tomorow will be better. Thanks you all for listening. Joy
-
I spent all day in the garden, potting and weeding. Those friggin cottonwood seeds are sprouting everywhere and I am going crazy. I have never seem them this bad. This has been going on or 2 weeks now, and the tree is still hanging with the white crap. I have screens over my veggies but all my flower pots and flower beds are sprouting. I did over an hour of exercises tonight to get rid of the backache, alternating the stationary bike(my old bike on a stand), rebounding, free weights and pilates. It was finally warm enough that I actually sweated! This has been the coldest spring on record-ever in Chicago. Did you hear that AL GORE! I hope you are enjoying those millions you have made selling us this line of bs!
Joy, I hope you are at least taking Vit D. It has been proven that women who work nights or inside in offices have higher rates of bc. And please have your iodine levels checked. It could be a big reason for the fatigue. Check out the info on the iodine and thyroid thread if you haven't done so yet. It is really important. It could be a reason for your down mood too. Hope you will keep joining us and find your Joy!
Kari-thanks for the zuchinni recipe. But sub out the canola oil. That stuff is poison. I wonder if you could add some melted, organic butter, or more applesauce instead? Glad to hear your friend and her baby are doing better. What a nightmare that must be, but thankfully they are both alive.
Allie-if you really want to get the gunk moving, try the rebounder. I always feel great after I do it.

Hi ladies I am back from Europe.Could not resist all the good breads and cheese. It was quite a foodfest. But I am home without any weight gain and am off to the gym this morning.I have the time now will read all the posts I missed and catch up.
-
Mumayan, welcome back, was wondering where you were, forgot you were jet setting. Hope you had a wonderful time.
Joy, go easy on yourself and take one day at a time. Do what you can and go from there.
Well off to work, feel crummy but no rest for the wicked.
p
-
Kari, great news about the PCP!! Congrats on low cholesterol and all your other "plumbing"!! I tend to have higher cholesterol (but a great "ratio", really high good cholesterol) but last night saw on the news about "red yeast rice" or something like this as a natural to lower cholesterol. I am going to check that out!
On the bread recipe, I was thinking of using olive oil / apple sauce combo rather than the canola (I did not realize canola was bad for us Vivre) but I just don't like the taste as much.Kari, I will try it with Agave and report back! Will buy some zucchini this wkend!
Today I did 45 min on eliptical x-trainer, it says that was 3.3 "miles". LOL. Cracks me up. Plus, while doing the exercise I watched cooking shows that were DVR'd!!!
Joy, maybe try some light walking. It sounds like you're exhausted! I remember during chemo they would tell me to walk as an energy builder, but don't push. It did seem to help build energy vs just laying around which seems to zap energy somehow in the end...
Mum, welcome baaaack!
Spring.
-
Mum ~ I can't believe you were in Europe (on a cruise?) for two weeks and didn't gain weight! Good for you!!! And Kari, I'm so happy that you found a PCP you love! That's great!
Debi ~ Good luck with your mammo & u/s today! I'll be thinking about you! My u/s is @ 2:00.
Joy ~ How're you feeling? In addition to vivre's suggestions, you should probably get a CBC done. I was very surprised to find out how extremely low my RBC still was a couple of months after I finished rads, and I learned then that rads can really affect that, which I hadn't realized. I already took a lot of vitaimins, but my PCP RX'd something called Metanx, and I am so glad she did. It's a high dose of 3 of the B-complex vitamins, and I can definitely feel a difference in my energy level, as well as some noticeably increased mojo!
On zucchini bread and baking in general... I recently bought a tin of Grape Seed Oil, and I love the flavor of it, especially for salad dressings and sauteeing vegetables. It's lighter than olive oil, and I'm wondering if it would be good for baking. Does anyone know?
Well, time to find my sneakers and get out there ~ Deanna
-
Good morning!
Welcome back Mum! A cruise in Europe! WOW!! Any fun stories or favorite places you can tell us about?? One of the guys in my office just returned from 2 wks in Turkey, it was really neat listening to all his stories yesterday!!
Debi and Deanna, I'll be thinking of you both today as you undergo your tests - please keep us posted.
Joy, very good advice from the other gals. Try not to compare your energy levels to anyone else's, listen to your body and just do whatever you can...I know we all tend to 'dream' big as far as exercise, but after undergoing these treatments that destroy so much within us, it takes time for the body to heal. Give it time....two guys I work with told me when I finished chemo in January...start doing something each day, even if its for 2 minutes, that way you set 'reachable' goals that you can accomplish, and then you add 1 minute, etc. That did the trick for me, as I always had that in my mind.
Vivre, holy cow about the canola oil!! YIKES! So I did a little searching on google about it. Snopes and the Mayo clinic says its false about canola oil being bad. I posted the mayo finding:
http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/canola-oil/AN01281
I think Al Gore did hear you! LOL!! what's up with those cottonwood seeds anyway?? They are driving you up the wall girl!!
Spring, red yeast rice huh?! report back on if you try it! also, report back about the zucchini bread!! Awesome job on the eliptical trainer WOOHOO!!!
Didn't do much exercising as it turned out last night. By the time I went to Trader Joe's and got home and made dinner for me and DD, it was late! We walked the dogs to the pooch park and then went to Target for some baby items for Carissa (some things she can look forward to), then DD was craving frozen yogurt so we HAD to go there LOL!! I slept good needless to say. I went to bed so thankful that we spent a 'normal' evening together...it still gets to me when I have time shared like that. Things I used to take for granted...NOT NO MORE!!! (intended bad grammar, heehee)
Make it a GREAT day!
-
weary, weary - pk0199, you are NOT wicked! I just won't allow it.
Hi to everyone else. Push me to get out and move.
-
Just got an email that my Vit. D results are in, mine 41; range 31-100 and then did read that low vit. d levels are attributed to mental problems and depression!! yikes!
Penny, how's that for pushing you to get out and move...absorb some Vit. D in the sunshine girl!!!!!
-
patoo--Just think about how proud of yourself you will be! I am with you though on not wanting to go--I missed my 9:30 yoga as I met friends for lunch and am "getting fierce with myself" (as my mother says) on going to the 4:30 class. I am going on vacation next week so really need to get all the exercise in I can this week. And just think even 10 mins of moving is better than nothing. You can do it!!
And if you really can't today, like Joy, that's ok too. I second the motion that we need to give ourselves a break now and then and listen to our bodies...
Kari--my Vit D was on the low end too. I hope the supplements will help! Also if there is sun I try to sit outside and get some on my legs (where there is no sunscreen) for 15 mins...
-
Kari, if we had sunshine here I would go and grab it!!! It has been rainy and not much sun, haven't felt real perky anyway, so will maybe try again tomorrow.
Patoo- git off your butt girl and go awalkin', I will join you tomorrow!
Debi and Deanna-updates?? How did you guys make out, inquiring minds want to know.
Take care everyone!
