    Hi all!

Haven't had much to write lately, so just keeping up on all your exciting days by just reading here. Still working out as often as I can, been using the weights more~trying to tone those arms as Spring is doing!

Lisa ~ Saw my onc's PA today as you did & I really like her as well-she's young, but very well educated & forthcoming. Everything is good, blood-work is fine. She has ordered a CA 27.29 (tumor marker test) for me for my next 3-month visit in Sept. Hope my number is good..... All done with Dr. appts until they start again in Sept. YAHOO !!!  Can't remember if I passed on the good news that my first 6-month mamm came back normal, what a relief !!!

Found Cook Right 4 Your Type, the Kitchen Companion to the Eat Right 4 Your Type book at Good Will today for 50 cents. Very interesting.

I'm trying to stay motivated ~ you all do help keep me focused!

    hugs,

    Val

Yeterday contained a lot of errands and not much of anything else. I did walk the dog (purebred mutt, 60 pounds) and then yoga. Did taker her to the beach but way too many tourist on the beach to let her run. Then my day was how much can I get done on a day off!! Car inspected, grocery store, drug store, mow the yard, and laundry. Yuck!!

Kari- The video is beautiful. Plan on sending it to others. Thanks for sharing.

Lisa - any specific names for the 4 dvd's. Seems like there are a bunch of them out there.  Got some of the C0Q10 and have started taking them. Hopefully I will get more energy and  feel human soon.

Probably won't get out on the kayak this week. My next day off is Saturday and it will be busy on the river. I'll just wait till next week. Suppose to rain too and that might make it very humid. Just what we need. Back to work for night shift for the next 2 days. My body doesn't know if it is coming or going. Love the jokes and info. Keep it coming.

Kari, I bet they are doing the tumor marker test for you. I asked about it and found out they were doing it for me, but didn't tell me, per se. As ValJean says, it's the CA 27/29 test. The idea of it is that they are looking for indications in our blood of things floating around (like my technical speak? lol) that indicate tumors are active, or on the rise, or whatever. They look for "trends" in the same person. If they see a spike, then maybe they get concerned and do scans and stuff? Mine went up at the end of chemo, and apparently is is "normal" b/c if the tumor is breaking down (and mine was) then there is evidence of it in the blood. I dunno! When I was initially diagnosed I had a huge tumor and was only a "12". Which I think is low. So I don't know if it really works or what.

Anyway, today we only did 2.25 miles at the park as my DH had to come home and use the bathroom!!!! So this threw us off our normal 4 mile spin. I will have to get some other steps in today! I am less than 5K right now! (I aim for 10k a day) and I think this is about 5 miles...

Valerie Jean, you know the nice thing about weights is the almost immediate results. I forgot that about weights! This is awesome. Once you start to see the results, it motivates you to do more! :)

Verve, I thought of you yesterday as I was shopping for something online (Sigg water bottles) and saw Gel seats!!! (Amazon!) How's the butt??? LOL.

As our Lisa says, MAKE IT A GREAT DAY!!!  :):):)

Val, good to see you back!  and congrats on the clear mammo and no dr appts til Sept!!

Joy, you did accomplish a lot on your day off, and your area must be so beautiful!  I lived in Fayetteville (Ft. Bragg) for over 7 years and never made it to your city although it seemed we drove all over that state when we could.

Spring, thanks for the explanation.  I will ask my nurse Kristine today about that.  You made me laugh about your DH having to come home to use the restroom, that ALWAYS happens with my DH...I better check the 'natural girls' thread and see about these Sigg water bottles...I was wondering about buying water bottles.

So last night, went to my DD house and we laughed during Bride Wars.  Later on after eating, we took Chip and Dale for a walk and mind you, it rarely rains or thunderstorms here...so we were getting further from her house and I said "was that lightning"?  Well, we kept going and sure enough we saw it again and turned around and OMG the sky was black and lighting everywhere and thunder (we said "oh dear, its just like N.C. and Okla")LOL...she takes off running "come on mom run!"...so there I am...lug butt, trying to catch up to her.  Needless to say I got quite a workout, my legs were burning so bad and I couldn't catch my breath and my heart got a workout!  We were laughing so hard.  So then the heavens let loose...we just made it inside, then her doorbell rings and her neighbor says "one of your cars has the window down and the other one's sunroof is open"...OH MY!  so she runs out there soaked, I throw her my car keys as well and she manages to NOT DROWN! LOL...oh brother.  It was a late night (usually I'm in bed early), drove home with the whole sky just lit up and it thundered all night long.  Sure brought back memories...By the way, its the talk of the office this a.m. LOL (we are just used to earthquakes out here, heehee)

Ditto our Lisa slogan Make it a GREAT Day!!Tongue out

Kari-I was laughing at your car roof being open. Only in Ca would you leave the windows open. We know to never leave them open here because the storms crop up in minutes, even when the forecast says sunny. In fact I have learned that if I am going into Chicago, and they say rain, I leave the umbrella at home. If they say sunny, I take the umbrella!

ValJean-I was just wondering where you have been. Glad to see you are sticking with us and things are going well. Keep it up!

Joy-I can't tell you how much I envy that you can go walk on the beach. I love walking on the beach. Even though Chicago has a fantastic lakefront, that looks like the ocean, it is so crowded in the summer that the the walking is impossible. I could join the crazy bikers, who whizz by like they are on the highway, but it is not worth it. I stick to the peace and quiet in the burbs.

I get my new gel seat, so I am ready to take the beamer for a  roll this evening! DH is in Kansas City so I do not have to feed him! Yeah!

Val ~ Congrats on the clear mammo!  It's such a relief, isn't it?!!!

Kari, loved your story about getting caught in the rain.  When we first moved to CA from Colorado, I thought the people here were idiots for making such a big deal about rain.  But you sure learn how dangerous a bit of rain can be when the roads haven't been wet in months, and no one knows how to slow down to drive in it.  Anyway, glad you weren't caught on the freeway in that downpour.  And thank goodness it's cooled off a bit this week -- only 74 when I walked this a.m.  OMG, what a difference!  I've been struggling to stay motivated and to do any mileage at all when it's been 100+ degrees.

Spring ~  Water bottles... My DH bought some VOSS water, which comes in a really nice, straight, glass bottle, and we're simply re-using the bottles with our own filtered water. They're probably not good for walking, but are perfect for the car.  DH also pointed out some exceptionally nice metal bottles he'd noticed @ Starbucks -- something about the threading being better than most (???) -- one of those guy observations (haha).

vivre ~  Let us know how the gel seat works.  Sounds cushy for your tushy...    D.

Water bottles, I found nice SIGG bottles at Amazon.  Here is an example in red. This is a very good price! Just FYI. (I have been online shopping crazy lately!!)

Kari, we DO HAVE SOME BOOMERS here in NC!!! Sometimes the sky opens and buckets come out! Now lady, you don't have lugg butt, you have lovely butt, getting lovelier all the time, esp. with all that running!!! LOL!!!

Vivre, I found those gel seats FAB.... let us know how your butt does!!!  Deanna, cushy for your tushy lol. lol lol.

Recipe! Oh, I have not tried this recipe, but I love pate, and now have changed my ways! So this is a healthy version. If you try it, let the rest of us know!

    Eggplant-Walnut Pâté

Traditional pâtés are often made from high-fat meats and liver. They can be delicious and quite elegant, but less than nutritious. This vegetarian version is sophisticated, filled with flavor, and healthful. Enjoy it on a special occasion or as an everyday spread with whole-grain crackers.

    1 large eggplant
    1 cup walnut pieces
2 teaspoons fresh ginger root, peeled, grated and finely chopped
    2 cloves garlic, mashed
    1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
    1/8 teaspoon ground allspice
Salt and hot pepper sauce to taste

    Instructions

    1. Preheat oven to 450°F. Pierce the eggplant with a fork in several places and bake until very soft, about 45 minutes.

    2. While the eggplant is baking, grind the walnuts in a food processor until very fine, and set aside.

    3. Remove the eggplant from oven, slash to let steam escape, drain off any liquid, and scrape the pulp into a food processor with the ginger root, garlic and olive oil. Process until smooth.

    4. Add the ground walnuts and allspice, and process until smooth.

    5. Season to taste with the salt, and hot pepper sauce. Spoon into a small loaf dish and chill several hours or until firm.

Cushy for your tushy!  I love it! LOL!

Spring, my butt kinda does look lovely in pants...haha!!  That SIGG bottle is one hot looking little number!  Thanks for sharing the recipe, I love trying new recipes!  May have to try this one on my own first before presenting it to DH.

Vivre, enjoy riding Beamer tonight, hope no rain.

Deanna, I'm with you regarding enjoying this weather!  Its the only way I was able to go out two times during my lunch hour and walk!

Had Avastin #15 today...3 more to go!  They are fitting me in today for the bone scan.  My veins didn't do too well today, luckily though I was able to keep my IV in from chemo and just walk over to nuclear med to get injected.  I go back after work for the scan.  Please keep your fingers crossed for good results!!  I really believe it will be ok, but I AM nervous...shoot.

So I had emailed my onc about getting the bone density test and she wrote back telling me she really doesn't think I need one yet, since I've just gone through menopause she thinks the number will be low, so I wrote her back and said ok I will leave it up to her to know when to get one.

Val, congrats on your clear mammo. Like you, I lurk a lot here but don't reply much.

Good to see everyone still doing their bit. I do have to say though, I have a hard time feeling bad for those of you who have to get up real early to walk because it gets too hot. We have been told we may get snow this weekend! Don't get me wrong, last weekend I think it got up as high as about 25 or 26 celcius. It has been gorgeous, but snow, come on!!!

I have been trying to work out everyday. The days I am working on the floor not so much as I am totally beat, but the days I am in the office, I usually work out, so about 4 days a week. Lately DH and I have gotten into taking the hound for a walk (yes we are bad doggy owners and don't walk him regularily), so some days we get double workouts. Hard not to take him for a walk now, he sits and cries until we go (dog not hubby). My weight is down about 5 lbs, so coming off slowly.

Tried doing weights but has anyone else had trouble with their pec muscle and doing weights? I am only using 5 lbs but after I do the weights, my breast aches horribly. Tried ignoring it but finally gave up because it was aching so bad it would wake me up.

Anyway, I have rambled on long enough. Best wishes to all with their upcoming tests, congrats for all the clear tests and get better those with screwy hips and twisted pelvis's (okay that is not a word but you know what I mean, pelvi just sounds wrong even if it is right.)

Hi Penny!  Good to see you here again!  Snow??? ARRGGHHH...come on nice weather already, geez...working out 4 days a week - GOOD job!!  Glad to hear your hubby doesn't cry until you go for a walk! LOL!!

I just chose a new PCP - finally!!  Ok off to my scan...later gaters!

Just took the beamer for  spin around the forest preserves but no cushy for the tushy! Would you believe the darn thing would not fit. I guess they only make them for those skinny seats, and mine is a bit wide. So I did a lot of stand up riding. Good leg workout that way anyhow. I guess I will have to break in the callouses slowly! LOL

PK I can't believe it is still cold up there-although I have no idea what 25 celcius converts to. I am very mathematically challenged!

Spring I love eggplant! That pate looks great. I planted some in the garden so I will have to try it when they finally grow. Did you know that pate is great on romaine lettuce leafs? It makes a very healthy roll up.

Had our first Team Survivor zumba class last night...only had four there, but I know a few couldn't make it last night.  They had fun and I took it easy on them!  I am going to open the class to my regular students, but charge them and the money will go to Team Survivor.

Zumba at 4:30 for me today and then off to another Dessert with Divas party!!!!!!!!

    Make it a great day!

Vivre, our 25 = about 77 for you guys, not super hot but very nice temp to do stuff.

Speaking of your Beamer, have to tell you about my neighbor, he has access to all of these high end cars. A couple of weeks back, he came home with his brothers Audi R8, long story short, by the time I saw it, the driver behind the wheel was no other than my 17 yr old son, he was on cloud nine! THe next day, neighbor showed up with a BMW M5, again, boy went nuts. Last night neighbor showed up with a Bentley about 710 horsepower. My child has driven them all! Guess what he wants for Christmas!

Has anyone heard from Mumayan lately, haven't seen her posting? I know she was away, but thought she was back now.

Keep up with the good work everyone.

Lisa, Dessert Divas! Do you partake of sugar or abstain?? LOL.

Vivre, too bad about the gel seat!!! Pooh! Good for your legs to stand up though... :)

Kari, let us know how the scans go, and how you like the new PCP... Amost done with the Avistan infusions!!! Yay!!

Today it was raining so I did 40 minutes on the eliptical. It was good. My weight is dropping, a little bit at a time. All my clothes that used to be tight are now comfortable, some getting loose. Just have to keep up this good healthy living!!!  I would love to go down about 8 and live with that for a while and decide do I need to drop more... The exercise helps!

    Spring.

Lisa, I was watching the news before work this a.m. and they were showing this group of ladies with feather boas on...but then the story switched to girls softball.  I though of your Dessert with Divas group with the boas on!! LOL!  how fun.  Good idea about charging the regular students for the Team Survivor classes.

Vivre, what's up with not being able to find a comfy tush seat for Beamer??  that just doesn't seem right...sounds like discrimination! haha!!  Hope you get used to the ole seat then.

PK, your son sounds like he will have a great affinity for high end cars!!  just like my hubby, oh dear!  My poor car is headed back to the shop next week, she's leaking antifreeze - sigh.  I think Mumayan is on her cruise for 2 wks so another week I think.

Spring, isn't it nice to be able to cross train (eliptical) when its raining out?   That's fantastic about the clothes fitting comfortable and some loose!  I had the oppositive this a.m., pants were tight!  CRAP!

I'll keep you posted on the scan results - hope I find out soon!!

    Have a GREAT Day!!

Hope the scans all turn out good. I go for my Mamo in August. A year after I started this roller coaster. Since it will be busy on the river I might drag out the bike this weekend and do a stint around the industrial park. I just can't seem to fit every thing I want or need to do in one day.

Here is an easy appetizers: Crab stuffed cherry tomatoes -- 1 pint cherry tomatoes  1 - 6 0z can crab meat   2- green onions, finely chopped   2 tablespoon dry bread crumbs   1 teaspoon fresh parsley, finely minced   1 teaspoon white wine vinegar   1/2 teaspoon fresh dill or 1/4 teaspoon dried dillweed  Paprika     Slice stem end from tomatoes and scoop out pulp. Invert tomatoes and place on a paper towel to drain. Combine crab meat. onions, bread crumbs, parsley, vinegar, and dillweed in small bowl and mix well. Spoon mixture into tomatoes. Line a microwave plate with a paper towel and arrange tomatoes. Microwave on high for 2-4 minutes or intil heated through, turning plate several times.  Sprinkle with paprika.

Hope everyone has a great weekend. We had rain but that was during the night. Day is beautiful. And I hope it stays this way. Big fishing tournament this week so we are going to be busy in this area. Enjoy life!

Joy, yeah mix it up and drag out that bike!!  My legs are so sore from biking/walking/running (well my version of running, heehee)!

The appetizer sounds good although question ladies - My DH wants chicken parmesan for his birthday dinner tonight and I was looking at the bread crumbs I have at home and it says soy flour (I think it said that) and 3 other soy ingredients.  Can I find bread crumbs somewhere do you think that don't have soy?

A beautiful day, what a gift!!  Unusually cool here, may not hit 70 today! and rain expected.

    Enjoy life, I LOVE That!

Kari ~  Just read your post and went to grab my container of breadcrumbs from the pantry, thinking what could be so bad in breadcrumbs, and I'll just tell you the name of mine.  Well, shocker...  my Progresso Italian Style Bread Crumbs have 10 lines of ingredients -- way too many to count -- including at least 3 soy things!  Gosh, that's unbelievable!  You just have to read everything, don't you?!?!?!

Can you believe that about simple bread crumbs??  Will swing by Whole Foods after work to see if they have some bread crumbs sans the soy.  Spring, I was thinking about buying a bread maker...I really do love bread!  My dad has one, he used to make his own bread, maybe I can steal it!  haha just kidding.  I love the Barefoot Contessa!

I always make my own bread crumbs. It is so simple, just a minute in a food processor or blender. Add some herbs and you are set. They stay fresh in the freezer to, but since you make them fresh, you only need to make what you need each time.

We are headed for a cold wet weekend again it seems. But I am sure the forecast will be wrong as usual. We are headed out to watch my nephew play for the state championship in volleyball and then I am picking up my grandmother for a few days of granny sitting to help out my aunt and uncle. I will have to plop her in a chair to get my biking in walking in I guess.

PK- It is snowing here too!!! Those damn cottonwood trees are shedding all over everything. It is horrible. I have to cover all my veggie beds to keep from being inudated with little cotton sprouts ( I guess I could eat them! LOL) Anyway, I will be glad when it finally stops snowing!

Had some good/bad news yesterday right before leaving work...My older daughter called me hysterical, one of her best friends was hit in her car yesterday by someone who ran a red light.  She's 20 wks pregnant also, she was in pretty bad shape, intubated, severe kidney damage, blood loss, face fractures...there was a baby heartbeat...she was taken to the hospital my daughter Krystle works at (level 1 trauma), so I told Krystle to pull herself together, put on some comfy clothes, wash her face, go to the store and buy snacks/waters/drinks for the families.  So she did just that.  I talked to her again last night and her friend was cognizant and should pull through.  She said she would keep me posted, but I haven't heard from her since.  Her friend's husband (both in their 20's) is very scared along with the families.

Right after that phone call, I checked my email for news from my onc (but she's off on Fridays) so I called my nurse.  She said my bone scan was CLEAR!!  but did show 'age related _____' (I can't remember the word she used now) something to my hip and shoulder.  I am SOOOO relieved, but need to find out from my onc on Monday exactly what this age related thingie is...

Well after the huge adrenaline rush from Krystle's call, I was pooped, so DH and I went out to dinner and a short walk.

We are headed out for a walk now.  Pray for Krystle's friend Corissa and her baby please.  We MUST cherish everyday we have so Make it a GREAT day!!

    Hugs, Kari

Krystle just called with an update...the above link is the story on the accident.  So Corissa (26 yrs) was on her vespa going to work (she's a lawyer)...she lives downtown and her office is a very short distance.  She was thrown from the scooter onto her face/arm...they are going to wire her jaw shut (she has 6-8 teeth left), she broke ribs, lung partially collapsed, kidney damage, still has breathing tube and will have a trach for 6 wks and lots more...i guess people posted on the internet that she was stupid for riding a scooter while pregnant, but accidents happen anywhere and everywhere.  She had a helmet on but not a full face helmet.

Anyway, just wanted to give you an update.

Kari- so very very sorry to hear about Corissa!! My prayers are with her, her dh and all who love her.

I am so excited...went to an exercise program at a local cancer support program. Was a little skeptical since most of the "gentle" and "adaptive" programs I have tried are not at all and still hard on my joints & muscles. Well I think I have found some thing that will be really good, nothing as active as zumba, bike riding or miles of walking but its a start and I feel better. Is a slow easy work out w/stretchy bands that have a handle on them, I also have my mini tramp out for really little bounces and mini walks. So far so good. Hope to try the pool also now that I found a long sleeve bathing suit top, I think that might help with the cooler air temps at the pool.  Not much but its a start. You ladies keep me trying.  Laughing

Hi all, been following you but not posting much anywhere.  Still trying to increase my motivation.  I get up to walking maybe 2-3 times a week; 30-60 minutes each time.  Sometimes it's just a dvd for 30 minutes, treadmill for about 45 mins or a walk (like today) for an hour but the walk is usually just more leisurely but feels good nonetheless.

Trying to get back to the pool because I do enjoy the aquacise classes or on my own.  Rads area is in good shape so the chlorine probably won't do any harm.  Now if I can just get up off this lounger!
