Radiation with tissue expander

Thank you Estepp that is a very encouraging FYI.  I read one or two of the Dr. Yu's reports about radiating and all that.  Good stuff. 

I only had 3 days of rads last week and one day of simulation.  Techies, nurse and doc didn't say a word about 3 days being two short. I end July 13th and that is on a Monday so......I dunno!

Carolyn--The  3dimensional conformal radiotherapy combines multiple tx fields to deliver very precise doses of rx to the breast.  It spares surrounding normal tissue.  I have multifocal cancer--in numerous locations, one of which was close to the chest wall. 

270cc is about a b cup size. 

Carolyn-I started rads the next day.  The techies are wonderful and I am so happy to see their smiling faces.  I am glad they know what they are doing.  They are very picky.  I want them to be that way. 

Yes, I like them all so far.  I haven't been as impressed with the doctor.  The nurse P seems totally under his thumb and that sort of  control bothers me, but I have to keep in mind that the radiation is killing any left over cancer cells and I don't want the BEAST back!!!!!!

Hello All, I to found out I would have to do rads after surgery and TE's being placed and was expanded to 450cc's,in about a 5 week period. I also can tell you I had my last fill on a Wednesday and started rads the very next Friday.  I had Tattoo's done and to be honest they aren't even as big as a freckle and they do have a variety of colors to choose from howeverthey will tell you the blue serves their purpose better and they are put in places that really don't show not to mention they do fade and alot quicker than a normal tat does.  I did not have to have any saline taken out in order to do rads and am not lopsided at all, that being said I will tell you however that he did position the right one over slightly (not that noticeable) to the right as to keep it from being in the way.  My PS also said that he will do my exchange in late July or early August and I will have my last rad treatment this Wednesday YEAH!!!!!!  I have used Radiation Therapy oil by Natures remedy that I heard about on this website and will tell you that I didn't use it under the arm and did on the other parts being radiated and the arm is the only place that is giving me problems. I have had 28 of 30 treatments If You need to ask any ?'s please feel free and I have one for you gals. I have had 28 ntreatments and 2 to go but, they said that they will not be radiating my supraclavicle area for the last to have you heard of that before???? ( I have been burnt (inside can't see on the outside) and have a hard time swallowing and with food or meds getting stuck  in my throat. Any suggestions??? Thanks in advance,

12 days post rads and my skin is healing nicely, after turning a very lovely shade of purple!.  My TE looks the same as when I started, let's hope it stays that way.

I don't think there's a set rule for the amount of tx's with a TE. I had 25, which might seem low to some.  I did not get any boosts cause my rad onc. said there was not one specific area to concentrate on.   They did give me the amount of dosages though to each area, it was something like 4500 to the node areas and 5000 to the breast/chest.

Carolyn and Deb -Congrats on almost finishing!!!!  Deb-I did hear that when radiating the supra.node area that there's a chance of swallowing issues.  So far I am ok on that end, but from what my doc. told me issues like that can turn up a few months after completing rads.

Hello All, Tomorrow is the last one YAY!!!!!!!!! Anyways as for the swallowing they said that it can happen and of course if it can it will to me not to mention I had scoliosis which moved everything in my body in the wrong place so go figure and they did give me lidocaine to swallow to numb it somewhat, Haven't heard of Silver Shield but the Natures Inventory Radiation therapy support.

Does anyone's breast look different-like shape or position?  Mine is already starting to change.  I am so worried!! I suppose once it is done, perhaps it wil shift back to a better spot?  Maybe that is why some of the PS' want us to wait until the exchange---to give the breast  and implant time to adjust.

Yes, Carolyn it is sort of like I just got a fill.  The radiology doctor said he thinks it is a bit of swelling and i should probably take an aspirin to reduce the swelling.  He said everything look really great so far and that I shouldn't worry so much.  So, I will take a deep breath and hope he is right.  I do feel better today.  Thank you for asking Carolyn.

Laura, No I don't think I am having a scar issue as of yet. Yes I am lucky on how quickly I am to have everything done and my PS said I am lucky on how I heal and how I have kept the rad burns to a minimum.  I hope all goes well for everyone of you ladies.

Massage away.. I did. My PS said it would not hurt a thing.. It would not help anything... but if it made me feel better...hehe.. so I did it.. still do.

I saw my PS today. I am two months out of Radiation. I do not have CC and my skin looks so good that my PS is going to let me have exchange at 4 months... I CANNOT BELIEVE IT! I have the toughest PS around..hehe.. I have exchange July 20th. So I will let you ladies know.

During rads I used Aquaphor three times a day and Bio Oil at night in the shower... I have no idea if this gave me the outcome I had.. but I thought I would put it out there for you ladies ...

I will keep you updated on how I change in the next 6 weeks until my exchange to silicone after radiation.

Hi all.  I didn't know this thread was here..Glad to have found it. 

I am partially expanded, on one isde to 340cc  on the other to 240cc. No where near what I expect to be in the end.  The PS didn't have time to fill before I started rads.   The larger side is being radiated, the smaller side is just 'out of the way'

I, too,  am on day 8 of 28 rads, so far no issues except I have a dry mouth. The rads techs say they are not radiating near that area (i am having supclav) but I'll ask the doc about it when I see her Wed.  It's not too bad.

  I found a cream online, a few have mentioned it, but not many.  It is called MIADERM.  It was developed by a team of rad docs.  I ordered it online, and it is yummy.  It absorbs right away and isn't greasy.  I use it instead of aquaphor along with aloe vera.  Although there is aloe vera in it.

As far as massage, I'm like Laura-- I do it because it can't hert and so why not?  Nice to have found ya.  May we all have an uneventful journey.   JUDY

Hello all. I've been following all of your stories regularly because I will likely be starting radiation soon on my left side. I have had TEs expanded fully for one month now, and my path report for DCIS came back with very narrow margins. Just wondering how often you women have been seeing your plastic surgeons throughout radiation?
