Bonnie and I got to see an awesome game. Bonnie wore her boppers; mine got broken at DD's Halloween party. Judy, looking forward to my new ones. Also saw the lady Tammy from my class; her team is 17 people.
We met at the ramp entrance, there were about 250 ladies. Most were in their 40s and 50s, but there were bunches of ladies in their 60s and 70s, and there were a few in their 30s. There were some who could have been in their late 20s, but, Lord I hope not. Some people actually leaned over the railing and applauded as we were marching in.
We marched down the ramp, and onto the field - lined up across the infield. We waved, and got our pictures taken. I could see my families in the stands - my daughter waved and waved in her hoodie. All the stadium signs read BEAT BREAST CANCER.
Then we went back to our seats. Bonnie and I stopped for hot dogs and water. I was so thirsty, cause I didn't drink anything beforehand - didn't know where the restrooms were. The Tigers won 11 to 7. There were 4 home runs, including a GRAND SLAM. We had crackerjack, and pretzels, and it never got any warmer than the mid 60s - my daughter called me a sundial, because DH and I kept moving into the sun to keep me from shivering. Damn Tamoxifen.
Got home and everybody took a nap. Really, a perfect day.
So, I'll see you all next weekend, to pick up our shirts - I want one - I saw the new shirts, and I definitely would prefer last years,' which were fabulous, but I'm going to write names on the back of my new shirt.
Survivorship is a gift, and damn, today, I knew it.
Neesie, if I have to drive out and bring your shirt to you, I will. But I bet we can work it out. 94 to 275 is likely easiest.
I wish you all had been there - it was an awesome experience.
-
Sue, I'm glad you had fun. I missed the beginning of the game, therefore missed getting to see you and Bonnie. bummer. I turned the game on when I remembered and it was only 2nd inning I think and we were getting clobbered. I watched for a bit and saw us starting the comeback, but then the Hockey game came on. Sorry, but hockey beats baseball-lol
I liked the t-shirts from previous years better also. They also fit differently. This years are LOOOooong. I have to figure out how to bling mine up this year.
Neesie- keeping you and DH in my prayers. (((hugs)))
Had my two year appt. Bonnie- Dr J is stil on leave! I saw her NP Alissa. I like her. She had me get an xray of my ribs to check things out, but she is totally convinced that it is NOT cancer....Caught so early, not as aggressive, etc. Thr bad news is my blood pressure was waaaaay high! She told me to check it often for a couple weeks and if it doesn't come down to call me primary doc. ugh. Also had my final meeting with the Clinical Trial nurse. That included 9 vials of blood, a one shot mammo of my "good" boob (to look at density changes), a questionairre, and a bone density scan of spine and femur. That was not so good. Bone loss in both places, spine was quite a drastic change. Got yelled at for not taking my Calcium. Since I'm done with the trial, I now have to start paying for my meds. It was nice to get two years for free!
Went out today and bought calcium plus D. Sigh, one more pill to take. (actually a couple more- a multi and fish oil)
Looking forward to seeing everyone!!!
-
Sue - The game sounds like you had a blast. Thanks for the news. Great it was a good game to boot. Yes, stay on this board long enough and you will see many young women in their 20's. Same with at the Race. So, did people have their race t-shirts on for this year?
I totally missed the early bird pack up. What that means is that the shirts will be boxed and I have to get them either Friday evening or Saturday early. They want the place emptied before 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. I got email today from both Jan and Sandy about this. Sorry I screwed that up. It's a tradition for Irene and I to help pack up all the Teams. Judy, If they still have shirts out and if people are there to ask, I will find out if you can swap out the x-large. I'm sure it would have been easier when they were boxing up.
I'll have everything ready by Sunday to meet at Panera if that's ok with everyone. Give me a good time and which Panera! If that doesn't work for some, let me know a good time and place and we will work things out.
JudyRock - you reminded me that I've been getting lax with my Calcium. Since they changed Viactiv, I don't take them. Maybe your blood pressure was high because you were worrying about the damn ribs! Sounds like they put you through the mill. But, all in all it sounds good, right? I was thinking about you. Two years is a milestone.
I got my BRCA1/2 results today - Negative! They still recommend being aggessive though due to my family history. She said to think about an ooph. grrrr.
I'm looking forward to seeing everyone also. Give me a shout about time and place!
Just found this construction map...
http://www.traffic.com/Detroit-Traffic/Detroit-Traffic-Map.html
Look at the legend at the bottom left and you should be able to turn on and off the construction areas.

Hey girls............glad the Tiger Girls had a good time!
I've heard the shirts this year are running big and I've heard they are running small...............well, I am definitely NOT running small this year and I'm concerned that the large might be a hip clinger. They change the materials..........lighter wt. and heavier wt. and I think that effects the sizing.........That's my story and I'm sticking with it!
Not sure if I can meet Sunday or not.............depends on time and where. Between the Man Person of the house and my Mom.....................................don't know if I can swing it. Let me know when you all come up with a time and definite place.
Denise
-
Neesie - the perfect solution would be to swap your Large for JudyRock's X-Large since she is looking for another Large. Want to do that?
Ok, Panera Sunday, I'll pick a time. Between 10 and 1 and I'll be there? Now you guys pick which one! Neesie - I could always head home after that by taking 23 North and meet you up your way. Let me know if that would work for you.
My sad news is that Bella crossed over to the Rainbow Bridge. I'm heart broken. She was my avatar if any of the oldies remember? I had her with my bandanna on and people thought it was a bra on her head. I also had pics with her in my wig. It looked much better on her! She was 9 and my velcro dog during chemo. I get wheepy just thinking of her.

Aww Nancy HUGS to you. I know how much you adore your pet family.
Only a few of us had on new shirts at Tiger game. I think we all like the old ones better. I am working on putting some "bling" on mine. I do have a couple of pictures at the Tiger game of all the survivors on the field.....do you mind if I post them on Wings of Hope?.....not sure I remember how to post here unless someone wants to update instructions.
JudyRock - Glad you were able to get checked early at UM and good news on the ribs. I take 2 pills for my BP......runs in our family.
Sue - We did not arrive home Sunday until 7:30. By the time we stopped in Royal Oak to visit with DD we were beat when we got home. Wish I would of had camera with me when we met up so we could of had picture taken together. Hubby took a picture of field crew hosing down field with survivors all lined up at the bases.....girls we thought we were going to be in a wet tshirt contest......haha
Question - Is Livonia 7mile the same as Middlebelt road? Just trying to figure out how to get to Meijers from 696.
Neesie - I agree with you on the shirts....it must be the material and make....haha
I was disappointed the Tigers did not wear pink jerseys or use pink bats during the game like they did on Mother's Day. Since it was photo day maybe the guys did not want to be photographed in pink? However they did win game and they did paint a couple of pink ribbons on the field. And I swear we saw a pigeon with some pink on it!

Nancy, so sorry to hear about your furbaby. They are such loving "children".
I'm actually looking to swap extra large WHITE shirts, not survivor shirts. We have 2 xtra larges and would like larges.
I can meet at Panera any time (unless I suddenly get invited to the boat).
Wings...7 mile is NOT Middlebelt. Am wondering why you would want 696 ?? Aren'y you south west of me, or am I totally confused? I can help you get to the Meijer's if I know where you're coming from.
I'm not thrilled with the pink shirts this year either, I liked the old ones much much better. I'm going to somehoe bling mine out too.....probably do something with the hem like I did last year, and try to figure out something to do with the sleeves.
I hope we get nice weather again, last year was just about perfect.
-
JudyRock - Survivors get a spare t-shirt that is white! So, Neesie may want to swap out her spare but that doesn't help her with the pink one being too big (forgot about that). But, you can swap out my hubbie's and so only need one more Large for an XLarge, right?
Both you guys are blinging your shirts! I want some bling. I'll have to hear how you are doing it.
Wings Wings - what the heck are you doing all the way North to 696? Stay away from there. Just take 94 East to 275 North to 96 East to Middlebelt Exit South. Meijers will be on the East side.
Pretty please post pictures on the site! Love the pics.
I see Neesie is getting donations online. Thinking of you and hubby, Neesie.
I had the bake sale today and it turned out great. Voting for the best Komen name also was fun. Sweater Puppies had a big lead until someone slapped a 20.00 on Save the Ta Ta's. Pointer Sisters was up there as were Hakuna Ma Ta Ta's and We Heart Boobs. Best of all, we collected over $600.00. Some are checks but I'm going to put the cash on my credit card and post it online. The checks have to go in manually. I wish I could have taken a picture of all the baked goods. There were 3 banquet tables of stuff to die for. One man's wife made rice crispy bears with pink ribbons around their necks. I tried to get a picture of it since I brought one home but my cats won't leave it alone. Maybe I'll get one later.
Which Panera are we meeting at???

JudyRock - Opps I was thinking of 696 to DD house since we go past Livonia on the way to Royal Oak. Looks like I am taking 94 to 14 to N275/W96 to Livonia. I go past 7 mile and can see the Meijer store from the Hwy. Guess I need to know how to get to Meijers from 7 mile unless you know of easier route?
Thanks Wings
-
Wings- that's not the correct Meijer's! OOps- I guess there are 2 Meijer's in Livonia!
See Nancy's directions
The Meijer's they meet at is just off 96....(quite a bit south of the one you see on the way to DD's house.)
Nancy- I forgot about us also getting the white shirts - D'oh
Going to be making boppers tomorrow night while I watch hockey.
I was going to try for a final push to raise funds at work tomorrow, but it looks like we will be raising funds for someone else. I just found out one of our machine repaimen was killed at work late this afternoon. He was working on a piece of equipment and got crushed by it. He leaves behind a young family. So terribly sad.
-
Aw Nancy.........sorry about your Bella...........Hugs to you.
I really don't think I can do Panera on Sunday. But I don't want you (Nancy) driving out of your way...you're already going down to get them.............so, like last year.....we'll meet somewhere. Let me know.........what time and where are you going Saturday?
I won't know if my shirt will fit until I try it on!! Bonnie, you already have yours...........what do you think? Blinging our shirts up? They must be pretty plain Jane, eh?
JRock.......sending special thoughts and hugs to your co-workers family.
Glad to see that Bonnie has no idea where she is going Saturday! I've been sitting around panicing over the shutdowns on 696 for a couple of weeks.................and I'm supposed to find a Meijer??????????????? Eyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy.
Glad your bake sale went well, Nancy!
Night to all,
Denise
-
Nancy- your bake sale must have been awesome- $600!!!
Last year my shirt was a bit too tight at the tummy/hip so I cut off the hem and then make slits about three inches up, one inch apart. Kind of looked like "fringe".
Not sure what I'm doing yet this year, but I'm not lovin' the new shirt design.
Have gone to bed twice now and still can't get to sleep. ugh.

Just wanted to throw out a:
LETS GO RED WINGS !!!!!!!!!!!
Val
-
Hi Valjean.
Neesie - you don't need to get on 696 either. Take 23 South to 14 East to 96 East to the Middlebelt Exit. (That's for Meijer's on Middlebelt).
Neesie - I'll pick up the shirts early Saturday but I don't know what time. It depends on if I can reach Irene before then since she was also going up to Sterling Hts. I could also go Friday night but really need to be sure I don't leave Irene hanging.
So, I could meet you out your way Satuday after I pick things up. But where? Is 696 already closed? That was how I was planning to get to Sterling Hgts. I sent Irene email that she won't get until Friday late. Maybe she could meet you and I North on Saturday - or anyone else for that matter. I'll do both Saturday and Sunday. I have to be out that way anyway.
So - I'll just pick a Panera since it's getting hard to coordinate. How about the one on Haggerty? I just searched old posts and that one is close to Wendy. If no one is going to be there real early, tell me a time. I know Skinny Carol isn't coming until 1:00 p.m. and Wendy said something about 12:30.
Sunday the 24th
Panera Bread
Haggerty just South of 8 Mile.
It's just a hop from the 275 expressway.
20140 Haggerty Road, Livonia, (734) 464-2138
Wings - You won't hit 14 if you take 275 North. It will take you directly to 96 East.
Now, if you take 23 North. Yes, you take 14 East to 96 East. (14 pretty much turns into 96)
So, my suggestion for you is this to get to Meijer's...
94 East to 275 North to 96 East to the Middlebelt exit. Go South and look on the left for Meijer's.
or
94 East to 23 North to 14 East to 96 East to Middlebelt exit. Go South...
Judy - Sorry about your co-worker.
-
Add me to the list of non sleepers and then had to get up early.
JudyRock - Sorry about co-worker - how horrible! I have a picture of your tshirt posted on the Wings of Hope website under 08 walk. For Mothers Day DD gave me a bedazzler....wear your sunglasses cuz I'll be wearing the bling....ha
Nancy - Thanks for sending me in the right direction. There is a Costco near the Meijers off 7 mile so I am glad I asked. I would of been turned into the lost and found....haha
Great job on the bake sale......treats sounded yummo. Hope you can post a picture. Speaking of pictures I did add some new ones under 08 walk. I also have some from the batting for a cure game where shall I put them? I have pictures from 07 walk and other get togethers will add when time allows.
Neesie - Stop laughing at my sense of direction. We will both probably end up in the lost and found!
Val - Hi nice to see you here. Owosso that I can find.
Wings

Hi Nancy,
12:30 on Sunday at Haggerty Rd. Panera is fine w/me. I didn't even know there was a Panera there. I usually go to the one on 6 Mile at Newburg. If it is difficult for anyone to be there on Sunday, I would be happy to get their shirts and you can pick them up at my house during the week. I live right at 6 Mile and I-275 and could also bring them to the Meijers meeting place on the 30th. Just let me know if you want me to do it.
What time do we meet at the Meijer's on the 30th? I heard that they start to close roads around 7:00 am so I am assuming it will be early. I had volunteered to carpool but we have received invitations for an Open House Graduation from 3:30 to 6:00 that we have to attend so we may have to leave earlier than people want to. Just let me know.
I am so excited. Got my steriod injections today so should be feeling about the best I can feel by the 30th. At least that's MY plan. I leave for CA to alter uniforms for the drum corps DS is in on June 12 so I must feel better by then.
See everyone soon.
Wendy
-
Hi Val- I agree GO WINGS!!! Will be watching them kick some Chicago butt again tonight.
-
OK, anyone going to Panera this weekend that would like to trade me their Large white shirt for an XLarge ??
The xl would make a great nightshirt.
-
Hi everyone,
Somewhere I remember seeing a 'butterfly' on one of the sites. Does anyone know where it might be? I'm thinking of making a transfer of it and putting it on my T-shirt, if it's not a copyrighted picture. I think it may work well with "Wings of Hope". I would appreciate any help anyone could give.
Thanks,
Wendy
-
Ooooh, I was wrong- hockey is tomorrow night.
Wendy- if you go back a few pages here, there are butterflies
also, our wings of hope symbol is butterflies- I think the main pic was from 2007, so that would be back a lot of pages here
You can also try clip art.
-
We have three more people walking with us. They were to late to sign with the team, but two signed up yesterday, and the last one today. YAY!
I will be picking their packets up at the New Balance store in Farmington on Tuesday and giving them to them on wednesday at work.
I'm jealous of Bonnie's BLING ! I'm going to have to do domething to my shirt- I do have sparkly glue. lol
-
Hey all.............
Yup, seeing Bonnie and I in the Lost and Found area Saturday before the race! Ummmmm, remember calling and looking for me and DD last year? That was a nightmare..........and she is good with directions!
Nancy........696 isn't closed (according to DH) just lane closures so it shouldn't be to bad on Sat. to get to Sterling Hts.
Are the shirts all ready for pick up or do you have to get them ready? Just wondering cuz you said you didn't want to leave Irene hanging.........All you have to do is threaten to call her and she will post!!
If you call me..........yes, I said 'Call Me' I'll meet you on your way home Saturday..........Or Friday night. If you're taking 696 to 23 are you going to get off in Brighton?
JRock...........did you get a lg or Xlg survivor shirt? Bonnie, you have yours already don't you? Give me a clue as to if they are running small/large/or just right!
Denise
-
JudyR - Yay for more joining us! See if you can sweet talk the people at New Balance to trade for your sizes if no-one wants to trade. Unfortunately, Skinny Carol ordered x-large for her family and friends that are walking. Oops. But, Carol and her sister went to some kind of jewely party and got another t-shirt they liked. They got me one as a gift. I didn't have the heart to tell her that I want to wear the team shirt. I'll walk with the Komen shirt and maybe put the other one on at Hockey Town.
Neesie - Irene has been on vacation but just replied through email. I'll meet her in Sterling Hts Saturday (late morning) and I can swing by 23 and get off in Brighton easy. So, want to meet somewhere Saturday? The t-shirts will be already boxed but not sorted. That makes me uneasy because with Irene and I having chemo brain, it took us several tries to get the list right! But, we checked and re-checked to be sure we didn't mess up. Now we have to hope they got it right.
Wings - you up again this morning? Hello Michigan Insomniacs! I'm getting ready for work.
Who else is coming to Panera on Sunday 12:30 p.m.? (oops - had that wrong and editted it)
Wendy - I "borrowed" the butterflies from tinypic so they won't be copyrighted. Here they are:
Wait a minute - Did you say "CALL ME" Neesie???? Ok - maybe I will unless you set a time and place to meet now! I can't check my email at work but you could send me a pm with details and I can check that.
-
Morning Nancy - Nice to see I am not the only early bird. I checked with DH on directions and he suggest 94 to 14/96 - Middlebelt same as your route.....thanks.
JudyRock - Don't be jealous on shirt it's my first time as a bedazzler.......heck I will probably screw it up. I do want to do some writing on the back since it is plain no sponsors. I did like Faith's idea but will probably keep it simple since my handwriting is not the best. I am jealous of Wendy and her butterfly transfer.
Neesie - As far as sizing of the shirts......they are not as "wide" as previous shirts.......they seem narrower however they are long enough.
Any new survivors joining please let me know so I can add their names to our WIngs of Hope sign....thanks. Nancy did JanDan join us?
Wings

Greetings from Holt which is just south of Lansing.
-
Hi Nancy,
Thank you so much for the butterflies! I'm going to try to print them then transfer it to an iron-on sheet to put on front, or back, or shirt. Then 'color' it in w/fabric paints. At least that's the plan. Once I have the transfer, I'd be happy to pass it along to anyone else. I have to see the shirt tho before I know how big to make the transfer. I really like the pink one but not sure it will transfer with the animation. We'll see.
I'm also in the middle of making a lap quilt that will be auctioned off at a breast cancer fundraiser car show the end of June. Of course I will be in CA at the time so I have to have it done before I leave on the 12th. But first things first, the shirt is first priority. At least I have all the fabrics picked out for the quilt. Now if I can just decide on a pattern. I get a headache just thinking about it. Now I know why I like to take classes so much. It's all picked out for me!
Look forward to seeing whoever is there on Sunday. Rick and I are planning to just have lunch there after church when we pick up the packets. Thank you for coordinating everything.
Wendy

Merilee
Welcome!
We had a luncheon out in Chelsea just a few weeks ago!
Keep watching this space.
Sue
-
Neesie- I got the XL pink tshirt. Last year I got the L and it was a bit tight. The XL is loose. The biggest problem I have is it comes to my knees! (well almost). It is very long. Much longer than my xl from two years ago.
I really wish they had kept the same logo af before. Looks like one of the tshirt sponsors is not on there this year?
I'm probably going to cut the hem off and fringe the bottom again this year. Going to try to do something with the sleeves. That one year people used shoe laces to tie the sleeves up, that looked cute.
I'm getting excited!!!
Wings- none of my new people are survivors.
I'm going to come to Panera Sunday to say hi and see if anyone has a L white shirt to swap. LOL Nancy, is your DH still willing to swap his one ?
Also going to try to see if I can swap at New Balance store.
-
Hi Merilee. Welcome to the Michigan group
-
Welcome Merilee.
Darn you guys are so talented! Butterflies, bling and bedazzle - oh my!
Sue has been quiet lately. She's coming out Sunday also, right?
JudyR - Yes, you can swap my DH's shirt.
Neesie - how are you and hubby? Going to meet me somewhere on Saturday?
I'm getting geeked also. Only one more week until the Race!
