I love the feet promises for the summer!
-
That was ALL great advice! Now we need to get it out to the general public!I HATE hearing people clip their toenails! I had someone do it when I was invited over for dinner. And once on a plane the guy behind me did it! I could NOT believe it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
LOL. I thought *I* was the only one with hairs on their big toes that they had to shave.
Of course, I have hair everywhere..............must have something to do with ancestors coming from a cold climate where the fur helped with survival. LOL
LOVED the girly promise. Also, please don't clean between your toes in public no matter how good it feels. Save that for the bathtub or shower. Euuuuuwwwwww.
-
I love the girl's feet promise for summer. I am going to email it to all my girl friends. I could see some of my friends in the promise, but I am not going to say who and which promise
. And Marin, I love the additional promise you want to add.

I LOVE this one.
I will promise if I wear flip flops that I will ensure that they actually flip and flop, making the correct noise while walking and I will swear NOT to slide or drag my feet while wearing them.
So annoying. One of my pet peeves.
Yes, Dotti! That is what I've been looking at, some espadrilles in a wedge. I saw a cute casual wedge sneaker look espadrille in this weekends' VS catalogue.
Will try to find the pic.

I KNOW that you guys will get a huge kick out of this AND side with me in the "Wading Boots Debate" that is transpiring between me and P (the BF). He is Mr. Outdoorsman and I am, well, I'm so not! I'm from just outside NYC and prefer concrete to dirt and the Waldorf to the tent anyday (no matter what the freakin' tent is made of!). So we're planning our vacation on a river way out in very western NC. Rural, definitely,. But the house is gorgeous and has every amenity, including a great hot tub (this place was recommended by my boss and I know that she has good taste). Anyway, having everything, the house has fishing rods and tubes for tubing on the river. I've never done tubing, so I'm psyched at the prospect. The conversation goes something like this:
P.: "Well, of course you'll need to wear wading boots when we tube."
Me: "Yeah, right." Then I see that he's dead serious, so "You are effing (I didn't say "effing") kidding me! No way am I wearing a pair of dirty old boots with my brand new, gorgeous, Patagonia bikini!"
P.: "But, Marin, you'll get your feet all cut up! Believe me, I know how painful that can be. And wading boots are made specifically to make sure that you can walk in the river."
Me: "Walk in the river? My plan is to jump on the tube, frolic a bit, and then hop on out and into the hot tub on the deck. Boots are absolutely absurd!"
P. (getting mighty frustrated and flustered by now): "Well, it's clearly your decision, but I've warned you."
I can tell that he's irritated and I probably should have shut up but, really, he's so cute when he gets haughty and acts like a stuffed shirt! So I leave it alone and then all day Monday send him emails with alternatives and links to sites with recommendations for what to wear while tubing. And girls, lemme tell ya, not one of the sites insists upon WADING BOOTS! Sneakers, shower shoes, water aerobics shoes, yes.
So hey, why don't you all help me decide....would YOU rather wear these:
OR these:

Hey Marin,
I vote for the water shoes definitely. As long as the sole isn't slippery, you will be safe from slipping on any rocks. Although, you might look pretty cute in your bikini and boots!

I agree and wish to add: don't waste that fab bikini on tubing! This is the time to wear nylon shorts and a tshirt or tank top.
Please consider: if you are tubing in a stream, both sides will be covered with vegitation, some may not be kind to your skin---stickers, thorns, posion ivy, etc. A tumble in a fast moving stream can not only tear up your exposed skin, but an expensive bikini, too.
Personally, I feel that a hotel room with out a minibar is roughing it, but I do live in a real outdoors area. People come here to vacation in the mountains and camp, etc. We LEAVE and find a beach.
Having done a white water rafting trip, I assure you, safety in clothing is gonna be very important.
Have a great time!

Marin - I've canoed on white water and had my t-shirt ripped off of me by the current. Your adorable bikini will be floating down the river. Also, how about a life jacket? The first thing we were asked is if we were experienced canoer's. Oh yeah, Michigan's rivers all the time. But, this was the Missouri river and I've never seen such fast water. There is no frolicking! So, if the river is down, the blue shoes will be fine. If the current is up, you are going to need reinforcements!
Do you need to walk the woods to get to the River? Those hiking boot are looking practical. Can you spring for both? That's just the girl scout in me talking. Always be prepared.
Have a fantastic time. You are fit - you will be surprised at how much fun and exercise this will be.
-
OMG, I wouldn't even consider tubing on the river. And, my idea of camping, Dotti, is staying somewhere where I cannot bathe, but must shower. EEEeeeeek.
Now, Marin, I think you are quite a sport for even going on this wilderness vacation. However, P's vantage point is obviously very different. I would take BOTH types of shoes, as Sphynx suggests, and see what is necessary when you get there. The boots may look pretty good if the terrain is inhospitable and rocky. Besides, you will look just like Daisy Mae in that get-up. Try taking along an off-the-shoulder midriff blouse and hot pants and call it an outfit!
-
Marin, are you going on the Natalaha river? I haven't been but my hubby and son have done the white water rafting on the Natalaha and a bikini is not appropriate for white water without t-shirt and shorts over it. I think parts of the natalaha is appropriate for tubing but I still wouldn't wear a bikini in the open water.
Take both types of shoes, I am sure that you will get good use out of both styles.

Had to check back in briefly to tell you that I was out doing errands earlier today and saw this really aerobics looking chick come into Starbucks (where I was treating myself to a mocha frappucino!) in hot pants and a really, really tight stretch top. I walked outside and there was her car. Guess what the license plate was??? FitChik!!!

Marin - one word: Keens. Very cool, great soles for water (I climbed up waterfalls in Brazil in them).
-
I have the cutest pink water shoes I got from dicks sporting goods... HOWEVER, when we were in Jamaica and we were cliff jumping from ropes the current was so strong is took the shoes right off our feet. So, if there's a strong current I would 'consider' getting adorable wading boots-- they can be found with a little help from Google I'm sure.
If you're going tubing and doing river activities I would wear bikini boy shorts and a more supportive top so you don't lose and rip any pieces during the days activities.
Marin, you know that I am the anti sport girl, and I am all for you in the sexy bikini in the hot tub, but I think you'll have fun tubing and doing the rough and tumble stuff too!
Can't wait to hear all about it.
-
Ahm , a bikini in the hot tub? Nah-----
-
Just what I was thinking, Dotti.
-
My opinion: I would go for both types of shoes (and socks with those boots). How about these shorts for tubing? Cute, eh? And Marin in a bikini in a hot tub? Have to agree Dotti. Not Marin!
-
These are cute - but might not be waterproof - I am going for the cuteness factor over practicality perhaps. Patagonia as well. What do you think?
-
Hmmmmm....I'm not sure I'm gonna bother with tubing after all. This is just too much freakin' trouble just to go float in some water! I think I'll encourage P. to go have some solitary time with a fishing rod and I'll curl up in the tub with a juicy book. I've tried to post a pic of the river (Hiwassee, Sheila...in Murphy...we made a vow to go "from Manteo to Murphy," ya know?), but I can't seem to make it appear. But now that y'all mention the rushing water and all, I'm starting to miss the lovely odor of chlorine. Thrashing about on rocks just doesn't appeal to me. I think I'll stick to relishing the outdoors from the deck! I'll save money on ugly shoes too and will just have to buy some nice sandals instead.
Just ordered some flip-flops for the boat from Zappos yesterday. All 3 of my swimsuits this year have aqua in the color scheme, so I bought these:
Now these I can really rock
!
~Marin
And PS - No suit in the tub, of course!
-
Oh Raye, I forgot to ask about those shorts...they're adorable! Are they Patagonia too? I know they have "board shorts, but the ones I saw were really unattractive! The shoes are a bit too "granola" for me or maybe it's that Mary Jane look. I like slip-ons though and even have a few pairs.

My niece taught school at Hawasee Dam School in Murphy several years ago. Murphy is about 4 hours from my house. I went and saw her a couple of times and it is lovely in that area. You will pass by the Natahala river and see the white water rafting on your way to Murphy. I didn't see the Hawassee river when went there so I can't comment on how swift the current is.

UGH - I don't blame you one bit, while I am a BIT athletic, for vacation I would prefer to lie by the pool with a book anyday than go rafting or tubing.
The pink shorts are from Athleta (link below) - I want to get some for myself actually.
Well, IMO the shoes are cute for "those" kind of shoes, but I do agree, they are a bit crunchy crunchy.

NIce new avatar Raye! You are just such a cutie!
I haven't commented on this shoe issue as I just knew Marin wasn't going to do something so unelegant where her body would be out of control and clothing would be ripped from her body....hmmm, starting to sound a little sexual isn't it?
-
Hi Ladies.. What an interesting thread hmmmm . I am checking out an alternative for my lost boob too. I should check out what is shower scubby and how to use it. With our Indian kind of dresses it is easy to hide our size.. or over size if we wear them smartly. Can I introduce few of our Indian Fashions like Henna tattoos, Salwar Kameez on this thread?
-
Farila, you certainly MAY. In fact, you MUST! I am so excited.
I was just going to order this book http://www.amazon.com/India-Word-Image-Eric-Meola/dp/1599620499/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1242999933&sr=1-4
We need fresh inspiration. At least, *I* do.
-
Marin-- I think you will have a blast tubing... sometimes vacations are all laying around (which trust me, I'm all about!!!) BUT-- tubing is one of those things that can be hilarious-- you bump and slide all along the river, and I'd hate to see you pass on a moment to laugh so hard that you can't breathe, and then later when you guys are in the hot tub together, you can laugh about it some more!
Tubing is something you can wear water shorts and a tank top if you want...and it can be loads of fun...I bet he'll be really bummed if you tell him to go alone.
-
Hey guys! I found out what the wax is that my hairdresser uses. It is Brazilian hard wax. No cloth strips to pull, you actually pull the wax that hardens. This is the stuff that is like bubble gum...amazing!
-
Farila - I would love to do a henna tattoo. I can't commit to something permanent but think henna would be just right. Where do you get henna and do you follow a pattern? Tell us more.
I'm with Beth, Marin. You will love tubing. It's a great workout and a blast. You won't be thinking about your shoes.
So, about a bikini in a hot tub. Is that bad? I'm thinking it's a public place? I'm a little slow, is it because the colors will bleach?
Hope you don't mind me crashing this topic. I've been lurking here and the makeup topic for a while. (Took someone's advice and tried Mother Pucker and Aveeno tinted moisturizer). I'm too lazy to find the other posts.
-
You're not crashing! You're adding! Glad to hear another advocate of the Aveeno moisterizer. I actually wrote that down and have been carrying it around in my wallet so next time I think to look in my wallet before I get to the cash register, I can get some!
