Has anyone tried the supplements Quercetin + Vitamin C against breast cancer? Quercetin is a supplement that is extracted from fruits. In vitro research indicates it can kill cancer cells. Animal studies also show that Quercetin can work against tumors.

These supplements are sold everywhere at vitamin stores.

I'm looking for testimonials here. Did anyone tried these supplements with good results?

I take Quercetin.  It is an ingredient in one of the supplements I take.   I take 70 mg a day along with 250 mg of vit. C.   I take a bunch of stuff so I can't say for certain that this in particular has contributed to how good I feel.  I finished chemo 8/14/08 and am on Herceptin/Tykerb/Aredia still but have been NED.

I am still on Chemo  A/C , but my pharmacist at the hospital comes each time to see "HIS" chemo people personally before each round. I was told Quercetin was extremly beneficial. My pharmacist did on my behalf some research and gave me OK with it, even during chemo.

Vitamins can be very important during chemo. The body needs a lot of power and strength to go through a cancer therapy. I think most of the physicians recommend taking vitamin supplements in cases like this. Don't know anything about Quercetin but as long as it's extracted from fruits and doesn't include too many chemicals you can't do anything wrong. Maybe it doesn't help too much but it won't be harmful for sure.

    Hi,

It's always better to ask your doctor  to make sure there is no interraction with your conventional therapy

You can also ask him an advice for methods to decrease the side effects of the therapy (antimetics, special diets and so on) I don't know I an not a doctor. Ask yours

Have a very nice day Laughing

    Yes,

Regarding this subject, before doing anything you must ask your oncologist and you must also collaborate (and ask of course) with a registered dietician who knows well oncology (1) and who absolutley has to collaborate with your oncologist. I read it's the best way that your body gets all the nutriments he needs without problems. I also read your medical team will also make analysis to know if your body has the good amount of nutriments.

Why collaborating with a registeredi dietitian? Because meny studies showed an increased survival thanks to its help.

They will advise you for the followin situations :

    - before  (it's good to contact him just after the diagnosis)

    - during

    - after therapy

It's also important to follow the advises of the dietician long time after the end of the treatment.

It's aslo advised to communicate (to ouy team : oncologist, dietician, pharmacist) the medication you're taking for other Illnesses than cancer on the same time.

Here is an interesting information regarding the help a reg dietitian car give :

In 2 studies with women with breast cancer. They show that if these women make physical activity and consume an healthy alimentation with less fat intake (with the advise of the registered dietitian and the oncologist for both alimentation and physical activity) , the relapse rate was lower.

But as always the content of my message is not a medical advise , just an information I read. Always ask your medical team (onco and reg dietitian) before doing anything

    Have a nice day

    A

PS : Sorry for my english it's not my language ;o)

    (1) Ask your oncologist to advise you a good one who knows well oncology and it's very important that he finds you one because many studies show an increased survival thanks to the help of a reg. dietitian.

I have taken Quercetin + Vitamin C, but not for my BC treatment. It's been for allergies. Vitamin C is a natural antihistamine, as is Quercetin. They both help immensely with season allergies-- as if I am taking a Benedryl or another over the counter anti-histamine.

Alain 23, you've dragged up an old post from 2009 with a link (to a sales site I suspect) to tell us once again to "see your doctor".  You've PM'd me several times with the same message.  This has been happening since 2009.  What is your interest in breast cancer?

I take 3 500 mg. pills of green tea extract (Jarrow) with a pill contining quercetin (1,000 mg.), vitamin C (500 mg.) and Bromelain (250 mg.), to slow progression or prevent recurrence (I'm currently NED).  I also take Quercetin etc. for my chronic bronchritis.

I read that taking the green tea extract with quercetin and vitamin C and on an empty stomach enhances the effectivensss of the green tea extract.  And the green tea extract passes through the blood-brain barrier which herceptin does not, a major concern for HER2+++ since 30-40% of the Stage IVs end up with brain mets.
