Welcome Sandy-Easyquilts, Marybel and sherry35...
Barbiedahl...I had my radiation simulation today...got molded and tattooed. It was nothing...a piece of cake. I got two tattooes..one in the middle of my breast bone and one on the left side of my boob at the bra line...they look like tiny moles...I have plenty of those...So don't fret Heckle Smeckle...or Meckle...you will be fine.
I begin rads on May 14th for 33 sessions...which gives me to June 30th and then I am DONE!!!!
And good news...my Rad onco doc has catagorized me as a STAGE ONE...instead of the original STAGE 2. I am SYKED...and excited...
As for diets...I plan on watching what I eat and eating more veggies and walking more. I wish there was a way we can track who is who and what goals we have so that everyone can see progress....Hmmmm maybe this site can arrange something for us.

BarbieDahl - - You're right! This 11-day detox is by the same woman who developed the "Fat Flush Plan." The two programs are mostly the same except for the one-day fast (liquids only) on day 8 of the detox version. NYC sounds very fun. Have a blast.
Thanks Mom-of-boys and Barbie for reminding me to treasure these moments!

Dear Cruise 4L I can't believe you were downgraded that seem like a mini miracle. I want your doctor! Wow, what a nice gift.
I did get my meckles, you were right it's not too bad. The thought of it was much worse. I I can live with the scars but somehow that added marking thing just put me over the edge. I think that's why I want to whip myself back into shape, I feel like I need to let my body know who the boss is (I don't want it thinking it can get cancer again!)
I am mega sore from a strength class, well just my abs. I could almost keep up with the class, horrid crunches over the BOSU ball. I have one at home, funny it just sits against the wall, maybe I should use it sometime! Ha ha My son who is a fitness fanatic says women don't do enough strength training and that the more muscle weight you have the more calories you burn. I may try to look like Arnold Schwarzenegger so I can eat chocolate!
Have a great weekend girls! -
Barbie, I have one of those balls that I bought from a trainer at my gym -- it floats around my little 2-bedroom condo and my 8-year-old son likes to play with it.
PrincessKauai - how old is your son? I was never into organized sports as a kid, but watching my son play soccer is really fun.
Hi EasyQuilts, I remember you from the rads board!
I've decided that I'm just going to try to watch what I eat but not really dive into a program until I'm well enough to get back into exercise. I'm 4.5 weeks out from DIEP surgery and while recovery has gone really well, and I'm walking every day, I definitely don't have my regular energy level yet.
Cruise, that is great news re: your re-staging. Unfortunately I went in the other direction -- they thought I was a stage 1 until they found a micro-met in one lymph node, which bumped me to an early stage 2.
Happy Friday everyone!

Good morning, ladies! I've had a great week and have been completely satisfied, not going hungry at all. The trick for me is to stay away from sugar, which is definitely my trigger - makes me ravenously hungry. Also cut WAY back on salt and I've gotta tell you, I am feeling so much better already. I have many health issues related to being overweight, so I am resolved to eat like this all the time!
Second weigh-in for me is Monday!
You guys have a great weekend!

GREAT NEWS!!! Good luck with your rads!

I just have to tell you this story. The first time I joined WW (it was so long ago the weekly stipend was $2! We had an instructor that was worth the $2 for the entertainment we got. This is her story:
She went into H&H (a restaurant in New York where you buy food out of windows and have community seating) and got black coffee and melon, since overweight people don't overeat in public. She sees a man - a civilian (her term for skinny people) walking toward her carrying coffee and two white sugar coated donuts - the ones with jelly in the center - and thinks, oh please God don't let him sit with me. Of course he sits opposite her. Now she's praying, please God let him be like most civilians and only eat one of those donuts. Sure enough, he finishes one donut and walks away. As soon as his back is turned she grabs the remaining donut and shoves it into her mouth. With jelly and white powered sugar all over her face, she spots him coming back with a second cup of coffee!

barbiedahl... My "boys" are 20 and 22. Do you understand why I still call them my boys? I am extremely blessed to have a great group of friends!

Km, that is an hilarious story. My trigger is sugar as well. I lost 20 lbs. on weight watchers just prior to my diagnosis of breast cancer. I was just starting to go on maintenance. I've tried to watch it a bit during chemo and I've done pretty well. I think I've only netted a 2 pound weight gain. I've tried to stay active when I can, of course, that hasn't been what it was pre-chemo. Sugar is also my trigger. The problem is that water and unsweetened tea has not tasted good since I've been on chemo. So, for now I'm drinking slightly sugar sweetened tea, V-8 juice, watered down grape juice and triple X vitamin water. Just finished my last chemo so I'm hoping in a couple of weeks water and un-sweet tea will tasted good again. I'm a bit confused. I'm committed to watching my sugar intake, but, some of the sweets I enjoyed on weight watchers have artificial sweeteners. I loved sugar free, fat free cook and serve chocolate pudding and the weight watchers fudge sickle bars. I'm wondering if I need to learn to live without them. Any thoughts on that issue out there? I'm also triple negative. I've been reading post about hormones in low-fat milk and such. Will the hormone in low fat milk matter to a triple Negative? Well, if anyone has any information let me know.
Thanks Deb
-
Deb -
I read an article last week about drinking diet sodas and it said that a study indicates lots of artificially sweetened food can be a trigger as well, although that has not been my experience. I think artificial sweetners (especially Splenda) are okay in moderation. Might want to ask your doctor about that, though, and about the dairy. The dairy is really important to the weight loss - helps a lot. Maybe you could do it as long as you losing weight and then cut back?

Here is a really good WW dessert recipe, even if it sounds a little weird.
Almond Joy Dessert
1 packet SF chocolate instant pudding
2 cups FF milk
1/2 tsp Almond Extract
1 tsp Coconut Extract
2/3 cup uncooked oats
Place pudding mix in a bowl and slowly whisk in FF milk. Stir in oats and almond and coconut extract. Refrigerate for 1 hour.
This produces a dessert that can fool you into thinking you're chewing coconut and it's very good. Also very filling and doesn't count because all ingredients are CORE. This recipe saved me last time I was dieting. Also it's a good way to get your milk serving in.

Hi Lorena, My little guy is 5 1/2. I come from a family of two girls, so this is my first experience with boy energy and Little League too. It's fun and sometimes exhausting. I decided to start back to work next Monday. Will be starting my Rads on 5/11. I went into the office today to file my return paperwork and realized how much the available food there isn't as healthy as what I'm eating at home. I'm going to bring lunch and snacks...
Decided to check my wt. today because a friend in the office called me "skinny" while I was there. I weighed-in at 159.8 lbs today, down from 162-something when I started on this thread. I still think I'm losing water wt. from being on the steroids (dexamethasone) during taxol. Just the same; thank you Cruise for starting this thread!

Wow ladies,
I'm off this week because it's a chemo week. I just finished watching a "Deserving Design Show, with Vern Yip". He just did a condo over for this amazing lady with stage 4 Breast Cancer. She was first diagnosed 5 years ago and is a Pilate's teacher. She looks so healthy and is so positive even bought the condo as a symbol of living to enjoy it. I wish I'd heard the first few minutes of the show so that I knew a bit more about her story. She loved Indonesian design, so I don't know if she was Indonesian or for sure where she lived. She brought Vern a floral Lei so it might have been in Hawaii .She apparently is not cancer free but is living with it well. Perhaps this fitness and nutrition really can help us live long and well.

Way to go PrincessKauai59... 2+ Pounds LOST is a YAHOOOOOOOOO start. Keep it going!
Thanks for the yummy recipe desdemona..I will try it...
Deb...as you know our taste buds have really gone through hell...so our tastes will definitely change and what we liked yesterday before treatement...we may not like in the future. Continue to try anything that you can taste for now and hopefully your taste will come back as we get our last chemo out of our system.
Kmccraw...welcome and that was me she was talking about sitting in front of that guy! Just kidding...thanks for sharing that cute story.
-
I fell off my diet train a bit tonight (ice cream), but was pretty good otherwise and have climbed back on board... Hey, it was Saturday night.
-
Desdemona, my niece makes that dessert all the time. It's very good. She's been on WW forever.
Princess, I buy the double churned ice cream. Only a fraction of the calories and tastes really good too. The calorie count does depend on what flavor the ice cream is too. Chocolate peanut butter truffle is going to have more than vanilla. I usually stay somewhere in between.

Hello Ladies,
OK, I'm in. I think it is a great idea to try and log on daily and report progress. My weight is ###
(I' m not ready to give the total
) but I will tell you that I have more like 50 pounds to lose. Argh. Before diagnosis, I had lost 30 pounds and was exercising daily and had made it a lifestyle. Now, I gained back 17 of those pounds and it is frustrating to have to go back to start with exercise. My plan so far has been to try and walk 45 minutes a day, even if I have to break it up into 2 sessions. I do not know if any one else has found this, but I no loger perspire in my underarms, which is ok, but I get really hot! What is up with that? I also did WW so I too will dig out my old stuff. Good luck to all. Thanks for the support and understanding of our common goals. (I think the port weighs 20 pounds!!!)

I fell off the wagon last night and ate 2 sweet rolls, so don't feel bad. Oh well, today's a new day!
I got so excited to see a WW thread the same day I went back on it I just jumped right in over here. I'm not recovering from chemo, though. Do you ladies think I should leave? Don't want to intrude or anything.
-
I'm not recovering from chemo either -- I finished almost a year ago. IMO all are welcome to come here to give and receive support!
-
Welcome DianeE...love your attitude and crazyness....it sure does weigh 20...LOL
Princess...we can fall once in a while...just don't make it a habit. I call it my FREE special treat weekend. I can help myself to one special treat...but it can't go past Sunday.....
Besides once we get down to our svelt bodies we need to gradually add those forbidden foods back into our systems so once in a while is okay...
Desdemona...PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE....you are so welcomed here...and please contribute to others and we will be supportive of you!
Right On!!! Lorena....
Okay...now for my testimonial...I went to a DOVE chocolate party yesterday...and there was so much chocolate...I ate one of everything...and you know apples, strawberries and bananas are good for you...only that I DIPPED them in this dark chocolate. The best was the white chocolate Martinis...I only had one of those...Whew...the rum got to me.... So its okay to have a FREE special treat...on the weekend. Today I will be back on track..
Have a great weekend...Get some extra walking steps in today...and remember to eat your veggies....and protein for better health.
-
Thanks, ladies! WHY did I buy those Entemann's sweet rolls the other day???
No more of that, LOL.
-
Hi, Welcome desdemona! Thanks for the support and encouragement. I'm heading off for a workout now. This will be the 4th one this week and my body already feels better.
The ice cream that I ate last night gave me really bad insomnia! (It was a Hagendaz [spelling?] vanilla ice cream bar with chocolate and almond coating. It was v. good.)
Cheers!
-
A Dove chocolate party? WOW... never heard of that, BUT where can I sign up?
-
They have a website....dovechocolatediscoveries....check it out....
-
The weekend in NYC seemed to have turned out to be an eating and drinking fest, perhaps that's why I am always struggling with my weight in the first place. I didn't attend a Dove chocolate party (although I'd kill for an invitation) but there the chocolate fairy left extra chocolate on my pillow each night.
UGH! I really do try and have some willpower, but I just don't have enough. I did walk 5 hours on Saturday so at least I got exercise. I think I will wait until next week to weigh myself.
I had a nice healthy breakfast and hope to exercise and eat well all week. Okay I don't hope to,I WILL!
Desdemona thanks for the recipe. Since I have all the ingredients I think I'll give it a try! Is it quick cooking or old fashioned oats, or doesn't it matter?? -
Barbie, 5 hours of walking around NYC is a LOT of exercise! When I am in NYC, I never realize how tired I am until I sit down.
Yesterday I finally committed to writing down my food and counting WW points. And I did pretty well -- portion control is the key for me. I'm going to try this for a few weeks and see how I do. If it isn't working for me I'm going to try a free online calorie-counting website that some friends have recommended (livestrong.com).
I just got dressed for work for the first time in 5 weeks -- I've been out recovering from DIEP reconstruction surgery and working PT from home. (I'm about to head into the office in a few minutes, though not for the whole day yet.) My body is so different from a couple of years ago -- my breasts are smaller and tummy is flatter (thanks to surgery), but I have all the extra weight I've put on around my thighs and butt. And my arms are really out of shape -- I've never had tops feel tight in the upper arms before. I am really motivated to lose the extra lbs and tone up my arms (so I can fit into all the cute tops I haven't worn since pre-dx). Exercise is still restricted for me but I'm looking forward to getting back to the gym in a few weeks. In the meantime, I'm trying to keep walking every day (I'm up to 30 minutes). Every time I do my range-of-motion stretches I do some leg lifts and squats, too, just to keep my legs from turning to total flab during recovery.
Mmm, Dove chocolate party sounds dangerous but delicious. That is one invitation that I would NOT turn down!
Have a great week, everyone!
Lauren

The recipe calls for instant pudding but I bet it would be even more delicious with the cook and serve.
-
Yarghhhghhgh! Just weighed in and I am up 1/12 lbs!
-
Lorena -
Good luck on your first day back at work!
-
Desdemona, You're too close to the end of chemo to stress about your weight on the scales! Always remember there is no extra credit for giving yourself a hard time (I have to remind myself this one all the time).
Just eat as healthy as possible and rehydrate yourself during this period. Eating detoxifying antiinflammatory foods is good too (I included a list in an earlier post on this thread.)
I'm heading back for my first full-day at work today too.
