Wendy, this week's episode, Eloise had just gone to see Penny and check on Desmond at the hospital and as she was leaving she met Charles outside.  She told him that his daughter was inside and he should go see her and he said that he couldn't.  Some other stuff was mentioned about why he couldn't see her and she said 'well, I sent my son back to the island to be sacrificed' and Charles said 'he's my son too.'

    Thanks Jas,

I think I must have fallen asleep for the last 15 minutes.  I sure hope not.  I'm going to see if I can watch the episode on ABC.com.  I seem to remember something about being able to see the episodes.  We'll see.

    Blessings,

    Wendy

    Hey everyone,

I just read all the posts to see if it cleared up any of my massive confusion, and I am of course, more confused!!!!

I TOTALLY agree that Jon Gosselin is Miles.  I tell my dh that every time he is on.

I was fascinated with the question raised about "if the island heals everybody, why did the Dharma people die?!?"  I don't know if I missed a similar question about why babies die on the island, but that popped into my head.

I was curious about what happened when Daniel tried to reveal Miles' identity.  It almost seemed like the Doctor Dude (what's his name?!?!?!)  was about to believe.

The time travel confuses the hell out of me.  I don't get it....1977 is now their present?  They can't change what happens to the future (until he mentions the variables in the most recent episode).  In my mind, (just like Hurley), I expect it to be either a bit like Back to the Future (when Hurley was looking at his hand to see if it was disappearing), or I would think that it is just one constant loop-they live in 1977, live to 2004 (or whatever year they are currently in, I'm so confused), then they go right back.  Why isn't it a loop?!

    Bumping for show reminder tonight.

Whoopsie, don't worry if you are still confused.  So is everyone else.  Just when the show starts to clear one thing up, they throw in a new twist.

One thing about the island healing people.  It only heals those it deems special it seems.  Remember, Jack had appendicitis on the island and Ben had a tumor on his spine.  Neither of them were healed by the island.

When Daniel tried to tell Dr. Chang that Miles was his son from the future, Dr. Chang asked Miles if that was true and Miles said it wasn't true.  So Dr. Chang ended up not believing Daniel.

The time travel confuses me too.  :)

If Daniel was shot by his mom in 1977ish, is he dead-dead, or merely island-curable dead. Will his mom drag him to where they brought child-Ben? Will he stay dead in 1977? If so, how will his evil guidance-counselor-lookalike mom use her son's brain to develop the coordinates for getting to or moving or time travel on the island? If Daniel succeeded in getting them to fix the drilling spot so Desmond doesn't have to push a button every 103 (or whatever) minutes, then doesn't that mean 2009 Daniel will remain a blithering idiot (if indeed he's saved by the island or others in 1977) because no one's plane will crash on the island and Daniel won't be sent there in the first place (getting healed in the process)?

Could it be possible that there is no Jacob and that Ben and Richard have been lying to all the other 'others'?  They were certainly not happy that John wants to go to Jacob.  The man who plays Ben should win an award.  His face shows such a range of emotions.  Last night was another good look of 'stunned silence' from Ben.  It would seem that John has this time travel thing figured out from his knowing that he needed to be at that spot at that time to have Richard remove the bullet from his leg.  Even Richard looks dazed and confused lately.  I wonder if Richard will go with Ben and try to eliminate John now?  Loving that Sawyer as always.  I sure hope Kate doesn't try to interfere with Sawyer and the other lady.

    Ditto on all the above.

Another fun filled evening on the island.  I agree 1,000 % about the character Ben.

He is brilliant in every show.  He is the perfect person for that part as was the little boy they got to play him as a young Ben.  I am getting tired of John Locke.  And what's up with Richard?  He is an icon and icon's cannot waver.  His looks of doubt or confusion are not supposed to happen.

I thought it was a tad cheezy they had Kate show up in time to get lowered down into the sub right next to Julia and yummy Sawyer.  You could see the looks on Julia's face.  Kate needs to be elsewhere.  Let the union of Sawyer and Julia alone.   Kate should have never left Jack and the other people trying to get to the Hbomb.   That is more her style.

Jacob.  Hmmm.  Now that entity is another matter.  Speaking of "matter" ~ isn't Jacob a puff of clear and hazy smoke like the ghostly type sitting in the old chair in the old ram shacked shack in the woods?    I think Jacob will be something but just have to wait and see.  just as we cannot see Gd in heaven maybe we will never see Jacob but it doesn't mean he isn't there.  If the writers make him out to be some cartoon I will be so disappointed.

This week the make up artists of the show get the big awards.  So many cuts and bruises and bloody faces with purple aging bruises.   Ben's face was a work of art.

Look what I found.  No worry.  Not a spoiler.  A Ben interview and more.

BEN: Our 'Lost' Finale Tour Guide

This season has been nonstop action -- what can you tell us about the 2-hour finale?
It has a lot of momentum, doesn't it? The action just rises and rises. The thing we're rolling downhill toward -- some inevitable climactic event or events -- is coming at us fast, and that's what the two-part finale is about: bringing a couple of really fraught storylines to some kind of conclusion. I mean, we have sort of these frightening dual storylines going on right now -- one set of heroes is looking for a hydrogen bomb, and another set of heroes is on a quest to find whoever is really running the island.

Both of those quests are more fraught with danger than I think anyone realizes at this point.

And we'll be seeing Jacob, and not just as a shadowy figure, right?
Well, the presence of Jacob will be felt. I mean, Jacob works in mysterious ways, so ... I don't know. It's hard to talk about Jacob like you would talk about Jin or Richard Alpert. I mean, he operates in a sort of different way.

But there was an actor cast to play Jacob -- did you get a chance to work alongside Mark Pellegrino at all?
No. No, but I know him by reputation ... he's a good actor.

    Ageless

We know the island of 'Lost' has healing powers, but can it also keep its inhabitants forever young? Take Richard Alpert (Nestor Carbonell), for example: We've seen him in flashbacks from 1956 (when he visited a then newborn John Locke) to the early '90s (when he helped Ben eliminate the Dharma workers) and in present day, and he always appears to be unchanged by time.

    Big Deaths

Since the surprising season 1 death of Boone (Ian Somerhalder), the show has been willing to kill off major characters in the name of good storytelling. R.I.P. Shannon (Maggie Grace), Ana Lucia (Michelle Rodriguez), Libby (Cynthia Watros), Mr. Eko (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje), Ethan (William Mapother), Nikki (Kiele Sanchez), Paulo (Rodrigo Santoro), Tom (M.C. Gainey), Charlie (Dominic Monaghan), Claire (Emilie de Ravin) ... well, we think ... Karl (Blake Bashoff), Rousseau (Mira Furlan), Alex (Tania Raymonde), Jin (Daniel Dae Kim), Michael (Harold Perrineau), Locke (Terry O'Quinn), et al. But we all know that on this island, people are never gone forever ...

    Charles Widmore

What is Charles Widmore's (Alan Dale) connection to the island? Emerging as the 'Lost'-ies biggest antagonist in season 4, the rich and powerful businessman (father of Desmond's love, Penny) has been in contact with Sun (Yunjin Kim) and Ben (Michael Emerson) since they left the island and -- in what will certainly come to a head in the show's final season -- Widmore promised Ben that he would take back the powerful piece of land that is rightfully his.

    Dharma Initiative -- Hanso Foundation

Funded by the Hanso Foundation, the Dharma Initiative was a research project that had scientists living on the island while testing theories on topics like meteorology, psychology and utopian societies. Unfortunately, their efforts were preempted by the Others, who killed the Dharma campers and took over their research stations. Thanks to our friends remaining on the island, we'll see more of their work and back story in season 5.

    End Date

Ever since ABC announced that an end date had been determined for 'Lost,' the show has kicked into overdrive. Now with only 34 episodes ahead in the final two seasons, the show's finale -- and the explanation for all of the mysteries that've plagued fans since the beginning -- can be adequately and thoughtfully mapped out. And don't expect anything less: Producers Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof (pictured) promise there won't be a snow globe or fade-to-black ending, and they won't be holding back information for a big screen movie either. Phew!

    Flashes

After years of flashbacks, a look to the future in the season 3 finale confirmed that some of the 'Lost'-ies would be rescued. In subsequent season 4 flash-forwards, we learned who the Oceanic 6 were, how they made it off the island and the price they're paying for leaving their fellow castaways behind. Now a new type of time-flashing (caused be the island moving, natch) will change life for the island dwellers indefinitely.

    Good vs. Evil

It's the ultimate battle of 'Lost' -- no, not 'Lost'-ies vs. Others or rescued survivors vs. deserted island dwellers, but that's not far off. We're talking good vs. evil. Our heroes have slowly but surely weeded out the bad seeds from the Others' camp, the tail section of the plane and the freighter ship, but there are still a few characters whose intentions have yet to be revealed ... we're talking to you, Ben, Juliet (Elizabeth Mitchell) and Widmore.

    Hurley

Aside from providing comic relief and the occasional helpful island discovery (what would they have done without that golf course?), Hurley (Jorge Garcia) also has one of the deepest ties to the island. His winning lottery numbers -- which landed him on the island in the first place -- matched the number on the hatch, and he's the only Oceanic 6 survivor to have been in contact with all the other five. We're betting their return to the island will hinge on his involvement.

    the Island

You can ask yourself where the island has been, and where is it now that it's been moved, but the bigger question is: What is the island? We know it's filled with some scary, mysterious inhabitants (the polar bear, the smoke monster, Jacob) and that it has healing powers (curing Locke's paralysis and Rose's cancer), but the origin of this inexplicable locale is the show's no. 1 mystery.

    BEN's interview:
You've played powerless, extremely powerful and now you're sort of at the mercy of John Locke -- will we see Ben scheme to get back in control again soon?
I think Ben is always on the alert. The wheels are always turning with Ben, but he seems to be at a low place in his set of resources right now. Not only is he low in terms of resources, he's low psychologically. He's been shaken a little bit lately. He's had to confront some real and metaphorical demons, and he has received orders from another plane, sort of, to be obedient, and to be a good follower. And that seems really sort of out of character for him, but I'm not sure he's quite shaken it off yet. But Ben can always be counted on to be looking for a break, looking for an opportunity. He'll work it if he can, and he's a good improviser, but I don't know what there is for him to do right now except shut up and keep marching.

You got to go head-to-head with the smoke monster -- did you ever in your wildest dreams think that would happen?
No, I never dreamt that I would have a face-off with the great smoke monster. It was exciting. Technically challenging to shoot as well -- it's a green-screen kind of shoot, so you're out there in a sea of bright green with little red Xs all over it, and you're sort of pretending in your mind that there's smoke swirling around you, or gathering itself into something head-like and leering down at you from above. [Laughs] I think anything they could've made out of cotton or plush would've spoiled the effect. I don't know if I could've kept a straight face. It was better than I did the scene with the smoke monster in my mind.

I love the Ben/Richard dynamic, but I don't totally get it -- any insight?
I have to say, it's a bit of a mystery to me. I love being part of the team that includes Richard Alpert -- I love being on the march with him sort of as an unknown, and the new John Locke as a sort of an unknown. It makes for a lot of possibilities and a lot of sub-currents. I mean, what is the real history between Ben and Richard Alpert? Ben says something cryptic about him every episode or so, but he doesn't really fill us in on his feelings. Although Richard seems to have been helping Ben all these years, Ben doesn't seem all that appreciative of it.

There are only 32 episodes left to air -- is that enough to resolve all the series' major questions?  SAY IT ISN'T SO  :

    THE COUNT DOWN BEGINS.

WOW!  That was a great cliff hanger for sure.  I didn't pay close enough attention to the first few minutes with Jacob and the guy on the beach and their conversation and now believe it was critical so need to go re-watch that.

Spoiler alert!  So do you think Locke is really dead and this other entity that was with Jacob on the beach in the beginning has manifested itself into Locke's likeness to fool Ben into killing Jacob because he is not allowed to - the loophole?

Okay... making a long story short... so two "old" farts have a bet going on with each other for many centuries about finding a loophole... supposedly the bad one does... comes back and kills (via Ben) the good one?!?!?!?!

And Juliet... WTF... I love her!  And where do all characters fit in?????????!!!!!!

    Absolutely LOST for words!!!!!!!!!!!!

PS: I think Sawyer needs me badly to treat his wounds and broken heart... I am coming Sawyer, will be right there... now that you have free time during summer months!

I would love Chelsea Lately to have him on her late show... that would be a riot! LOL

OK. I've been reading this thread all along. First post here though. Is it possible that Christian Shephard is the "new Locke?"  On this show, anythings possible of course, but jeeze what a great finale!

Some stuff cracks me up though. Juliette (boo hoo- grew to love her!) has to hit the a bomb with a rock to get it to blow up?? This after all the heavy machinery, tower and all that metal weighing tons couldn't do it?

Okay, taking a shot in the dark here.  What if the present day 'others' are descendants of the people from the stranded ship seen in the beginning of last nights episode, which is the same ship featured in season one or two, I forget the name....Black-something.

I found it interesting that 'Jacob' interacted with each of the Oceanic survivors and Juliet, Ilyana.

I doubt that we have seen the last of Jacob.  I don't think he will die.  I'm not sure the two entities at the beginning of last nights show probably can die since they've obviously survived for centuries that we know.

So, if the bomb blows up and 'resets' time and everything, then the present day stabbing of Jacob will have never happened.  Right?!

Jacob.  Who is this actor?  He is yummy in a so kind and gentle way.

On the beach at the beginning while he was eating his fish by the egyptian statue and the dark haired guy sits down next to him.

I say that was "Good"  (Jacob)

"Evil" Dark haird guy who has now morphed into a John Locke look alike.  Evil.

    Brilliant writing and Finale.

To wait till January 2010 is painful.

And Juliet.  Her ending line * hits the nuke with the rock * screen WHITE.

My mind is still on rapid rewind and fast forward taking it all in.  All the intrigue of it all.

If the four toed statue is Anubis and searching Anubis will drop your jaw.

    Sample from writings on Anubis.

After referring to the view that Anubis was born of Nephthys, although Isis was his reputed mother, he goes on to say, "By Anubis they understand the horizontal circle, which divides the invisible, to which they give the name of Isis; and this circle equally touches upon the confines of both light and darkness, it may be looked upon as common to them both--and from this circumstance arose that resemblance, which they imagine between Anubis and the Dog, it being observed of this animal, that he is equally watchful as well by day as night. In short, the Egyptian Anubis and the Dog, it being observed of this animal, that he is watchful as well by day as night. In short, the Egyptian Anubis seems to be of much the same power and nature as the Grecian Hecate, a deity common both to the celestial and infernal regions. Theirs again are of opinion that by Anubis is meant Time.

Anubis carries very heavy meanings I won't go into here.  Read if you want about Anubis.  It's an eye opener.

    Time.

    Good and Evil

    Death

    Protection

Portals from this place to that and moving between.

I feel the show is most definitely about Life. Death. Crossing over. Egyptology. Christianity.

Take for example using the name "Christian Shephard", the doctor father of Jack who has been resurrected.

    Christian

    Shephard

    Biblical words.

    * * * * * *

    Anubis

"The duty of guiding the souls of the dead round about the Underworld and into the kingdom of Osiris was shared by Anubiswith another god whose type and symbol was a jackal, and whose name was Ap-uat, i.e., the "Opener of the ways"

    "Opener of the Ways"

Yep  This very brilliant puzzle is giving us the clues.  We just need to dig.

And this is only the statue and Jack's father.  Then there is Jacob and Hurley and the guitar case.

    It's all so wonderful.

Jazz.  You could be on to something.  The island could be guiding the relic ship to cross over.

I am intrigued by the actor playing Jacob.  He was perfect.  Showed so much kindness and compassion.  Could there be a twist in our LOST future.  Of course.  Jacob is the goodness but lives inside Anubis the guide of worlds.

    From LOSTpedia.

Jacob, previously referred to as "Him", is said to be the leader of the Others and the person from whom Ben received his instructions. Initially, Ben was the only one who supposedly knew how to reach, hear, or speak to Jacob; however, Locke has heard Jacob speak and Hurley has accidentally stumbled upon his dilapidated-looking cabin located deep in the jungle. Jacob has apparently enlisted the aid of the dead to act as his representative. Most details of Jacob's identity, history, powers, and authority are still shrouded in mystery except is that he's similar to Richard in that he does not age having been alive for at least a century.

Yummy Jacob.  aka Mark Pellegrino (Pellegrino also happens to be my most ever favorite sparkling water)

I only have set season one.  I better go snap up the ones available this far.  Thank goodness for On Demand.

16 shows.  16.  Maybe.  Maybe the writers will do more.  We can hope.

Actually, one of the cable channels are showing Lost reruns right now.  They are showing season 1 and I've been rewatching and finding even more stuff that I missed.  They pack so much into each episode now, what is it going to be like with only 16 left.  I hope the guy who plays Sawyer gets another series after this so I can watch 'his yumminess' somewhere else after this show ends.
