Kristy: Thanks for bringing us together, and being a kick-ass proclamation-writer!
During May 2008 Sisters Day of Celebrating our Wonderfulness Month, we underscore our commitment to raising our spirits, hopes and dreams for our futures post-breast cancer.
All of the wonderful women in this group have travelled a very long and often difficult road in their battle against breast cancer. All of the wonderful women in this group have chosen to overcome this adversity and chosen to allow their experience to make them more wonderful than ever before.
All of the wonderful women of May 2008 are committed to themselves, their friends, families and women everywhere.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, as representative of all the women of May 2008 , by virtue of the complete lack of authority other than the will to have this month, do hereby proclaim December 2008 as May 2008 Sisters Day of Celebrating our Wonderfulness Month.

Happy Anniversary Everyone!!!!
Been thinking about what to bring to the celebration--the only thing that pops in my head is banana pudding!! And maybe some pulled pork???
Rock--Your Crush sounds absolutely delightful!!!!!
Quiet day here--getting a little laundry done--WOW what a difference a week makes! Even went to the grandkids birthday party yesterday (didn't stay long, but I was there!)
Love to all!

"Rock gets crushed in South Africa." I LOVE IT. I LOVE IT.
Karin, those party hats will do JUST FINE.
I love it the hats and the "rock gets crushed" the way I love banana pudding and pulled pork. Oh my god.... remember the pigs Karin posted for me? Remember the hugging of the yew tree?
I love us. I really truly deeply profoundly infinitely love us.

Jen you must have missed it. On the last page I said "In honor of Deb I will be making Paula Deen's Chocolate-Cherries Alaska Bomb". Then Rock mentioned Indian Headdress party hats.
-
yup I did miss it, sorry. I was skimming real fast trying to play catch up while family was here <blush>

It wouldn't surprise me in the least if hallmark did make happy-cancer-message-board-thread anniversary cards (god only knows they make cards for everything else) . . . in which case, surely they also make "ooops-i-missed-our-cancer-message-board-thread anniversary" cards. i'm sending one right now!
and to the picked-over remains on the dessert buffet (burp!), let me add a berry-almond crumble. with homemade lemon-buttermilk ice cream.
it finally feels like spring here, and the daffodils are going crazy. yesterday was absolutely gorgeous: spent the morning helping out with an earth day clean-up in a detroit park - what a great community, it's probably the only neighborhood in the city that's actually gaining population, and has a really active, creative, accept-no-bullshit cultural vibe, kind of like the women of may 2008 - and then headed down to toledo to visit my parents. my mom was just diagnosed with diabetes, so it's been a tough month for her.
today, i'm going to try to get some work done in my own garden, after letting it go to seed (all too literally) last year.
rock, what the heck is the story with your awol ovary???
linda
-
One of my ovaries is "atrophied." (is there EVER a part of your body you want to hear is atrophied?) The other is still in action, though. Has anyone had a uterine biopsy? I'm supposed to have one of those and a hysteroscopy and a D&C but I think I am going to pass on everything but the biopsy because I really think we are looking at ovulation, not endometrblahblah and certainly not uterine cancer. Bloodwork comes back on Tuesday. I am expecting a whole lot of nothing. Also, I might have some lymphedema in my breast. Or maybe it is just residual swelling from radiation. (Or maybe the non-bc breast has just shrunk a lot.) Anyone else with a bc-breast that is twice the size of the other?
Linda: My mom was diagnosed with diabetes last year. She changed her diet, picked up the exercise and is on some drug that made her drop 50 pounds (she probably only had 25 pounds to spare so it is really odd to see her as a petite person -- she now wears TWO foobs even though she only had one masectomy). What am I trying to say? That I'm sorry to hear of her diagnosis, but I know at least one person, i.e., Mom, who is managing pretty well a year out.
-
◄when I think about even the possibility of having my breasts examined in a non-clinical setting►
Dr. McDreamy and Dr. McSteamy move over, DR. CRUSH is taking over.
-
Okay people, we are in danger of losing our R rating........
gettin a littel steamy in here!!!
Rock, when you allow the exam, please play "Let's hear for the Girl....lets give the Girls a hand....you know you know we gotta understand, oh yeah.....
ran
-
Linda - Is there another one of those cards left?? Maybe one with sound, like "Celebrate" from Kool and the Gang...adding my own dessert, "Better than Robert Redford" to the table, because, well, you really can't have too much dessert!
Sue - Glad to see you posting and happy with your results!! Cleavage is awesome!
Rock - Hehehehehe - it's so fun to read about you and Crush-man! And you are correct, whatever it is, it's NOTHING.
Randie - Glad to hear there's a procedure to stop the filling but talc?! That's an interesting usage.
Karin - Loved the write-up of all of us in Sue's room - you are the winner of most creative!
Roxi - And speaking of winners, CONGRATS on yours - I have no doubt it was so well deserved!!
Jackie - This week is soooooo much better than last! Whew.
We had a lovely family outing yesterday to the beach (not swimming, still too cold) - picked up more shells than we will ever need. Kelly's jacket pockets looked like a chipmunk storing up for winter and every time she bent over to pick up a new one, some would fall out! Hiked up and down a couple of trails (Noelle, I have used most of the muscle mist today!) and finished up at an Italian restaurant we haven't been to for several years - yummy!!!! Took me a while to catch up, but I'm glad I did - next stop, FB!

Hi Everyone,
In stocking the day after buffet with homemade chili and cornbread and a vanilla/chocolate marbled pound cake. Spent yesterday with dd at the Baylor-Nebraska softball game- long really tiring day but it felt so good to feel good and feel normal- especially doing it on our anniversary day.
Work has been total chaos- I had a new software system go live last week and it was a very tedious process- it is an accounting type application and they were changing the rules right up until Wednesday I think- but we got it finished by Friday noon and I was very relieved.
Rock- the the time of my hysterectomy my pathology showed one ovary completely atrophied and fused to mt uterus while the other one was going strong and even had cysts on it- so it was pounding away in there.
Sue- so glad you are home- Im going to call and change us to a porch visit- between the software deadline at work and a sinus infection I was wiped out all week and didnt want to get close to you with any kind of bad thing happening! I will call soon!
Scheduled a trip to Vegas August 1- its really not my favorite place by my husbands dad and step mom live out there so we are going- I found a really nice looking resort to trade our timeshare for a week out there so I can lounge around by the pool and exercise room and not have to visit all week long. I am really hoping to fit in a Grand Canyon outing while there or on the way home if we decide to drive the trip.
My brother is trying to arrange another week in Gulf Shores this summer- sounds fun and I hope we get it worked out. The all other time off will be around hauling dd to softball tournaments- this is her summer to get to start talking to college coaches and hopefully she will find the school and team that are a perfect match.
2 sessions with the trainer (Craig)- we had to back off the weight of the arm weights- I was completely debilitated last week and in severe pain- so we dropped those back a bit this week- I am still sore but more of a feels good sore this week instead of the someone help me off the pot all over body soreness last week. However, sore or not, I am glad to be starting this weight training and am optimistic that I can curb the bone loss from the chemo, rads and hysterectomy and femara without adding more drugs to my life (maybe I will drop a size too from all the working out).
Gotta go- focus groups at church tonight so I have to cook for that too! Come on Rock- Im cooking enough for you too!

Today is my last day of spring break, back to work tomorrow. Glad it will be raining as it will make the transition much easier. Part of me is excited as I have missed my kids over the break. The other part is upset because I got spoiled this week getting to have my first cup of coffee outside watching nature as I started my day. Looks like I'm going to be joining others in the fact that I will now be looking forward to the weekends. I'm still waiting for the arrival of my hummers. They are usually here by now. The last batch of humming bird nectar went to waste but at least I was prepared.

Sue hope you're enjoying your new PERKY ( . )( . )
Sure beats my saggy, droopy. ( )( ) U U

Long 2 days we had a booth at a bike race, and I had to fly back to the store in the middle of it yesterday to do 2 peoples hair.
I am still sick and tired of being sick.. love to all..this week was my first chemoversary. I think it was the 15th or the 16th.. I decided not to care which it was.
Happy Thread anniversary. Decadent Chocolate Torte with Apricot and Raspberry sauce is what I brought...

Happy "I missed the Threaderversary but I'm happy about it"....I'll bring sopapilla cheesecake (wonderful, easy recipe, PM me if you want it.)
Had a really good day, I am surprisingly better every day. Still taking the pain meds, and at the risk of giving you all a flashback to more difficult days, I had the old 7-pound block of cement this morning (first time since Tuesday!!) but, YAY!!!! I will say that the first three days after this surgery were some of the most painful of my life, but I really do feel better every day. I even walked a bit this morning (a LITTLE bit), and I look GREAT in my tank tops!
RanD, prayers for easy breathing and hope the new thing works. Noelle, again, REST!!! Cris, good to see you! Karin, enjoy the kiddies. Kristy, no worries. Enjoy your kids and try to slow down, if you can.
My daughter-in-law has been here since Thursday helping me out, it makes my heart smile. Every time I say "Thank you, Melissa," she says, "I love you."
Life is good. Rock, Dr. Dreamy, it's about time you found the kind of guy you deserve!! Miss you. Can you PM me your snail mail address? Please?
Love all you guys,
Sue

It is IMPOSSIBLE to keep up with you women. Gone to LA for a few days and look what happens. I will catch up with you on our next rainy day...I promise. I want to read every word before responding but good thoughts to all. Have NOT YET listened to my CD...crazy busy but want to relish every word. Love you all.
-
Jean - Got my CD today!! Played the first two songs in the car tonight picking up Katie from gymnastics and we all sang out loud and danced in our seats to "I Will Survive"!! It was great. Now I have something new for my commute! Thank you!!!!!
Sue - Glad to see you up and about. What a sweet story about you DIL!
Randie - Babies are GOOD.
Speaking of, since I shared with you all about my friend's adoption, tonight is the last night the biological parents can take him back. No word, so it looks very, very good. I am so thrilled for them, on top of which, he seems to be a perfectly healthy, normal, hungry baby!
Also, I had my 4-month follow up with my onc today. It went fine and we (the "collective" we of me and all my doctors) are beginning the discussion of whether my ovaries should stay or go. Even though I was not hormone positive, he feels I have a small risk of continuing to let my hormones fluctuate when I have my periods (if I were in menopause, we would not be having this discussion). The down side is, I can attract other unsavory things much earlier by inducing menopause now. Things like osteoporosis, heart disease, etc. There is no need to rush a decision and I won't even see him again until November. It just makes me uneasy to have to think about it - feels unsettled. D.A.T....'night.
