    Saint Anthony of Padua

    Holy Saint Anthony, gentle and powerful in your help, your love for God and charity for His creatures, made you worthy, when on earth, to possess miraculous powers. Miracles waited on your word, which you were always ready to request for those in trouble or anxiety. Encouraged by this thought, I implore you to obtain for me (request). The answer to my prayer may require a miracle. Even so, you are the Saint of miracles. Gentle and loving Saint Anthony, whose heart is ever full of human sympathy, take my petition to the Infant Savior for whom you have such a great love, and the gratitude of my heart will ever be yours. Amen.

    Lord, make me an instrument of Thy peace;

    Where there is hatred, let me sow love;

    Where there is injury, pardon;

    Where there is error, the truth;

    Where there is doubt, the faith;

    Where there is despair, hope;

    Where there is darkness, light;

    And where there is sadness, joy.

    O Divine Master,

    Grant that I may not so much seek

    To be consoled, as to console;

    To be understood, as to understand;

    To be loved as to love.

    For it is in giving that we receive;

    It is in pardoning that we are pardoned;

    And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen.

    Prayer for Healing

    Lord, You invite all who are burdened to come to You. Allow your healing hand to heal me. Touch my soul with Your compassion for others. Touch my heart with Your courage and infinite love for all. Touch my mind with Your wisdom, that my mouth may always proclaim Your praise. Teach me to reach out to You in my need, and help me to lead others to You by my example. Most loving Heart of Jesus, bring me health in body and spirit that I may serve You with all my strength. Touch gently this life which You have created, now and forever.

    Amen.

    You know, I was catholic forever, then went Doughting Thomas in my 30's, and a searching agnostic from there on. But, as I once read, saying "I was Catholic" is like saying "I used to be Asian"....you're not getting away from it. I must say what has given all the women in my family a sense of peace (I have bc, my mom has bc, my uncle has colon cancer, my husband prostate.....) are rosaries. Haven't had one for years, then my daughter and I found this Catholic store that had rosaries made out of olive wood from Jerusalum....My daughter got herself one and sent one to my mom; I got myself one and sent one to my sister. How can an object give comfort? I don't know, but when I see it, or hold it, that rosary makes me feel so good....funny how some things remain with us from our childhoods.

    I also bought one for myself - with a drop of water encased from Lourdes....it's a beautiful blue OUr Lady of Lourdes rosary. When I do chemo and other times...I feel like the waters of Lourdes are washing through me, washing the cancer right out.

    We travel such a long way to get away from ourselves, but still eventually find the pathway home.

    Agie I know just what you mean.....So glad you posted....My parish priest once told me not to worry about the traveling in life for it helps us to grow...He said the door is always open and he was happy that I always manage to find my way home.....xoxo,Patti

    O Christ Jesus,
    when all is darkness
    and we feel our weakness and helplessness,
    give us the sense of Your presence,
    Your love, and Your strength.
    Help us to have perfect trust
    in Your protecting love
    and strengthening power,
    so that nothing may frighten or worry us,
    for, living close to You,
    we shall see Your hand,
    Your purpose, Your will through all things.

    The Month of May is both named for and dedicated to Mary, the Mother of God

    Holy Mary, Help the Helpless

    Holy Mary, help the helpless, strengthen the fearful, comfort the sorrowful, pray for the people, plead for the clergy, intercede for all women consecrated to God; may all who keep your sacred commemoration experience the might of your assistance. Amen

    This is the day which the LORD has made;

    let us rejoice and be glad in it.

    Psalm 118:24 KJV

    Lord of all,

    Watch over me, walk with me,

    and answer my prayer.

    Help me to know your presence at

    every moment of every day.

    In times of trouble and in times of gladness,

    let me know you are near.

    I am nothing without you.

    I can do nothing without you.

    You call me to follow and to lead.

    You give me gifts to share.

    You promise me your eternal presence.

    Around me there is suffering and need.

    The cry for justice is strong.

    The sounds of despair and grief are real.

    The face of hopelessness is no stranger.

    But your blessings are abundant,

    your grace has no limit.

    And from the goodness you give to the riches

    you grant with your help,

    I will make a difference in the world.

    I will take of the poor.

    I will walk with the weak.

    I will be an answer to their prayers.

    In your name and through your Son,

    Who lives and reigns with you

    and the Holy Spirit,

    One God, for ever and ever.

    Amen.

    — Fr. William Novak

    Receive, Lord, in tranquillity and peace, the souls of your servants who have departed out of this present life to be with you. Give them the life that knows no age, the good things that do not pass away, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

    BLESSING OF A HOME
    Jesus, King of love,
    you shared in the life of your earthly home at Nazareth
    with Mary and Joseph.
    Bless, we pray, our new home and our life here,
    that we may help each other and those who visit us
    to grow more and more in your love.

    God our Father, make us joyful in the ascension of your Son Jesus Christ.
    May we follow him into the new creation, for his ascension is our glory and our hope.
    We ask this though our Lord Jesus Christ, your son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.

    Novena Prayer

    Lord Jesus, your Sacred Heart is always open in love to each of us, and especially when we are suffering. To all who come to you seeking your help, you show your compassion and your healing power. You .care for us when we are lost, sympathize with us in loneliness and comfort us in mourning. You are closest to us when we are weakest. You reach out your hand to us when we stumble and have most need of your help. I ask you to listen to my prayer during this novena, and grant what I ask (make your request silently). But if what I ask is not for my own good and that of
    others, grant me always what is best, that I may build up your Kingdom of love in our world. Amen.

    Saint Augustine left us this lovely night prayer:

    "Watch O Lord with those who wake, or watch, or weep tonight, and give Your Angels and Saints charge over those who sleep. Tend Your sick ones, dear Lord, rest Your weary ones, bless Your dying ones, soothe Your suffering ones, pity Your afflicted ones, shield Your joyous ones, and all for Your Love's sake."

    A Prayer to St. Peregrine for Sick Relatives and Friends

    O great St. Peregrine, you have been called "The Mighty", "The Wonder Worker" because
    of the numerous miracles which you obtained from God for those who have turned to you in
    their need. For so many years, you bore in your own flesh this cancerous disease that destroys
    the very fiber of our being.

    You turned to God when the power of human beings could do no more, and you were favored
    with the vision of Jesus coming down from His cross to heal your affliction. I now ask God to
    heal these sick persons whom I entrust to you:

    (here mention their names)

    Aided by your powerful intercession, I shall sing with Mary a hymn of gratitude
    to God for His great goodness and mercy. Amen.

    A Prayer to St. Peregrine for One Suffering from Cancer

    Dear St. Peregrine, I need your help. I feel so uncertain of my life right now.
    This serious illness makes me long for a sign of God's love.
    Help me to imitate your enduring faith when you faced the ugliness of cancer and surgery.
    Allow me to trust the Lord the way you did in this moment of distress.

    I want to be cured, but right now I ask God for the strength to bear the cross in my life.
    I seek the power to proclaim God's presence in my life despite the hardship,
    anguish and fear I now experience.

    O Glorious St. Peregrine, be an inspiration to me and petitioner of those needed
    graces from our loving Father. Amen.

    Cancer is limited ...

    It cannot cripple love,
    It cannot shatter hope,
    It cannot corrode faith,
    It cannot eat away peace,
    It cannot destroy confidence,
    It cannot shut out memories
    It cannot silence courage,
    It cannot invade the soul,
    It cannot reduce eternal life,
    It cannot quench the spirit,
    It cannot lessen the power
    of the Resurrection.

    Let nothing disturb you.
    Let nothing frighten you.
    All things pass.
    God does not change.
    Patience achieves everything.
    Whoever has God lacks nothing.
    God alone suffices.
    Christ has no body on earth now but yours;
    no hands but yours;
    no feet but yours.
    Yours are the eyes
    through which the compassion of Christ
    must look out on the world.
    Yours are the feet
    with which he is to go about doing good.
    Yours are the hands
    with which he is to bless his people.

    For those who suffer,
    and those who cry this night,
    give them repose, Lord;
    a pause in their burdens.
    Let there be minutes
    where they experience peace,
    not of man
    but of angels.
    Love them, Lord,
    when others cannot.
    Hold them, Lord,
    when we fail with human arms.
    Hear their prayers
    and give them the ability to hear You back
    in whatever language they best understand.

    I feel the same way about the Rosary. My grandmother always told me that if you ever need help ask the Blessed Mother and say the rosary. She had a son (my uncle) who was diagnosed with a rare kidney disease. At that time all the children who got it (early 1940's) eventually died. He was sick for 4 years. During that time a doctor came out with a cure for this disease. There were two little boys in the hospital ward and my uncle was the one who the cure worked on. So, we have always remembered this and when in trouble (and sometimes when we're not!) we remember the blessed mother in a special way for what she's done for our family.

    I too am not a "perfect catholic" but as you say, once a catholic always a catholic. My faith actually was stronger from the cancer so in a way it helped me and was a gift (if you could call it that).

    God Bless!

    Barb thanks for sharing your story...I have prayed many times if my life and have had many of my prayers answered....I am far from the perfect Catholic myself... ..As a matter of fact....I attended a Cathoic School..And was quite the devil and class clown to say the least....I spent my share of time in the hallway... .....I bet the nun's who had me as a student would be surpised to see me posting prayers here.....This disease has made me more spiritual..... We just do best we can...WE are human...If you have any special prayers please post them....

    Hail Mary full of grace the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

    This was sent to me by way of email....

    MORNING PRAYER
    In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ I will begin this day.
    I thank you, Lord, for having preserved me during the night.
    I will do my best to make all I do today pleasing to You
    and in accordance with Your will.
    My dear mother Mary, watch over me this day.
    My Guardian Angel, take care of me.
    St. Joseph and all you saints of God, pray for me...

    PRAYER FOR THE SICK

    Father of goodness and love,

    hear our prayers for the sick members of our community
    and for all who are in need.
    Amid mental and physical suffering
    may they find consolation in your healing presence.
    Show your mercy as you close wounds, cure illness,
    make broken bodies whole and free downcast spirits.
    May these special people find lasting health and deliverance,
    and so join us in thanking you for all your gifts.
    We ask this through the Lord Jesus who healed those who believed.
    Amen

    Whisper Jesus

    Author Unknown

    Today I got a burden and
    Felt that I should pray
    God's spirit seemed to tell me
    You were having a bad day.

    I don't know what the problem is
    But I do know the cure;
    Whenever we will let Him
    God keeps us safe and secure

    In life there will be problems
    Cropping up to spoil our day
    But we know the answer
    All we have to do is pray

    If you still feel defeated
    And just want to run and hide
    Reach out to Him, He'll be there
    Standing right at your side

    So remember -- Whisper Jesus
    For He's just a prayer away.
    He's close enough to touch Him.
    All you have to do is pray

    Do not look forward in fear to the changes of life;

    Rather look to them with full hope that as they arise,
    God, whose very own you are, will lead you safely
    through all things;

    And when you cannot stand it, God will carry you
    in His arms.

    Do not fear what may happen tomorrow;

    The same everlasting Father who cares for you today
    will take care of you today and every day.

    He will either shield you from suffering or will give you
    unfailing strength to bear it.

    Be at peace and put aside all anxious thoughts and
    imaginations.

    St. Francis de Sales

    We ourselves feel that what we are doing is just a drop in the ocean.
    But the ocean would be less without that drop. ~Mother Teresa

    Prayer of St. Augustine-Day 7
    Watch Thou, O Lord, with those who wake, or watch, or weep tonight, and give Thine angels charge over those who sleep.
    Tend Thy sick ones, O Lord Christ.
    Rest Thy weary ones.
    Bless Thy dying ones.
    Soothe Thy suffering ones.
    Pity Thine afflicted ones.
    Shield Thy joyous ones.
    And all for Thy love's sake. Amen

    Prayer is joy,
    prayer is love,
    prayer is peace.
    You cannot explain it,
    you must experience prayer.
    It is not impossible.
    God gives it for the asking.
    "Ask and you shall receive."
    The father knows what to give his children
    - how much more our heavenly
    Father knows.

    Lord,
    You invite all who are burdened to come to You,
    Allow Your healing hand to heal me.
    Touch my soul with Your Compassion for others.
    Touch my heart with Your courage and infinite love for all.
    Touch my mind with Your wisdom, that my mouth may always proclaim Your praise.
    Teach me to reach out to You in my need, and help me to lead others to You by my example.
    Most loving heart of Jesus, bring me health in body and spirit that I may serve You with all of my strength.
    Touch gently this life with You have created, now and forever.
    Amen

    O Christ Jesus,
    when all is darkness
    and we feel our weakness and helplessness,
    give us the sense of Your presence,
    Your love, and Your strength.
    Help us to have perfect trust
    in Your protecting love
    and strengthening power,
    so that nothing may frighten or worry us,
    for, living close to You,
    we shall see Your hand,
    Your purpose, Your will through all things.

    Prayers of Saint Augustine:
    God of life, there are days when the burdens we carry chafe our shoulders and wear us down; when the road seems dreary and endless, the skies gray and threatening; when our lives have no music in them and our hearts are lonely, and our souls have lost their courage. Flood the path with light, we beseech you; turn our eyes to where the skies are full of promise.

    Blessed are the poor in spirit:
    for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

    Blessed are they that mourn:
    for they shall be comforted.

    Blessed are the meek:
    for they shall inherit the earth.

    Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness:
    for they shall be filled.

    Blessed are the merciful:
    for they shall obtain mercy.

    Blessed are the pure in heart:
    for they shall see God.

    Blessed are the peacemakers:
    for they shall be called the children of God.

    Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake:
    for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

    Prayer of St. Teresa of Avila

    Let nothing disturb you,
    Nothing frighten you.
    All things are passing.
    God never changes.
    Patient endurance
    attains all things.
    Whoever possesses God
    lacks nothing--
    God alone is sufficient.

    Barb,
    It has been a long time since I prayed with the Rosary. I think that is something I would like to begin. Could you please refresh my memory on how to pray with the Rosary?

    I would much appreciate it. Thanks,
    Hugs,
