Can you tattoo over a colorless mole?
Today I'm shopping so will stop at Sephora to check out those new brow products with the fibers to help add bulk to the brows along with coloring them. Will report back.
I've decided that there is no reason on earth I need a pedicure. I soak my feet a half hour in the tub every day, rub the dry skin off, cut my toenails right after so they are still soft. I would never let anyone cut my toenails, actually. All I really want is a good polish application. Foot reflexology would be nice, too.

-
Kathi, I haven't had my eyebrows done, family trait with heavy brows, but the woman who did my areolas also does the whole face and her eyebrows look like little hairs. Her site is www.ashevillepmc.com

My Eyebrows are still healing...kind of scaby...its the extra ink. She told me not to peel it..to let it just flake off. As soon as it is done I will post and let you know. She did say that she would need to retouch them in about a 4 to 5 weeks. She has found that chemo patience seem to fade considerably more than her other clients.
-
Did it hurt? How much was it? Does it look funny right now? Can you go to work? Can you tell I want to do it too?
-
Sorry Guys - O/T here - but I am in the mood to go to the burning bed. I am not white, more yellow white. Weird. Just need a little color and vitamin D. Although, pale is very in now.
Has anyone heard from our lovely Marin? Thinking of you Marin!
Raye
-
Oh sweet Raye, here I am! I came on to tell anyone who cares that I've posted my 6-days post-op pics over on the picture forum (the one you need to ask Fumi for access to) and asked everyone what they think. I think that my newly-fortified boobs are fabulous, though still swollen and higher up than my PS says they'll be in a few months. And the best part is that they still look like ME...only stronger, if that makes sense? Seriously, I feel as though I've added something like a protective fort or something to my chest and now have what I used as my password to certain places when I was first diagnosed: "2tufftitties" Anyway, maybe that's just my bizarrity (new word?).
I had PM'd Beth after surgery because the oddest thing happened...when I got home and took off my clothes, I was bruised from the surgical area all the way down my right side and center ribs and down to my groin (tmi- my right labia was dark black & blue
!). I was so shocked and scared. Also, the area was way swollen and it was like something had deliberately beaten me...and in a very private area. Geeeeeeeez! Within a few days, the bruises looked more "directional" and the swelling disappeared. I googled every website and message board to find answers, but no one seemed to have had this experience. Beth was kind enough to offer her support and suggestions and I did resolve to calm down until my post-op visit yesterday. So I went and showed the nurse the whole thing. She was just as shocked and said that in her entire experience, she's seen nothing like that severe a bruising from recon. Her assumption, though, based on seeing plenty of post-op bruising, is that the bleeding "traveled" naturally downwards and just pooled in my...ahem...crotch. So I'm going with that. I mean what else can I do? There were like 7 people in the OR at last count (right before I went under), so it's highly unlikely that anyone did beat me up or sexually assault me. But lemme tell ya, it was a pretty creepy feeling!ANYWAYZ, y'all, I'm doing great and only have some pain from the heaviness of these gorgeous things. I've already tried on a few bathing suits and they look fabulous (need a tan and a tighter butt though
)! I'm still super tired and very glad that I'm not going back to work until Monday. And no teaching for a weeks either. The PS said I can start doing yoga and lower body work (already have my squats/lunges/leg lifts workout planned for later today) and go back to cardio 2 weeks from the date of the surgery. Weightlifting will wait though...I don't want to ruin anything, ya know? And here some good, pertinent-to-this-thread news...I'll be having a tad of Restalyne injected into the dent/divot area once the swelling subsides some (next PS appt. is 6/2) and she'll be putting the leftover into the wrinkles around my mouth. It's been about 16-18 months since my last Restalyne treatement, so I REALLY need it!
Now as for makeup, I'm once again whining about my undereye shadows which have become super pronounced. The skin there is so dry and paper-thin and nothing goes on smoothly. Whatever I've tried has clumped up and just sat there! What's a girl to do????
~Marin
-
Marin, I'm so happy you are pleased! You were worried, but you done good.
As for under eye shadows mine are the worst I've ever seen, like my Dads. (I had a date once ask him where he got the two shiners! Yikes.) Lately, I've stopped using a concealer because I found by the end of the day it just exaggerated the lines. So, I only moisturize that area at night and use my foundation and then light powder in the morning. That's it. I find it's enough and much less noticable. I use a cream that is specifically for eyes but will use any one that I get "free with purchase" or whatever. The point is that eye creams are made specifically for that area and they all seem good to me. I only use them at night, they are too rich for the day for me.
Raye!!!!! Step away from the machine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Marin!!! I am utterly thrilled for you doll! You will be rocking the boat this summer!! After I type this post, I am heading over the pic site to check out your pics. How exciting. And how frightening about the bruising and swelling of the areas down below. I'd stick with the blood flowing downward theory as well. I am totally confused about your comment about a tighter butt! You are dyno-MITE, Marin.
Now the eyes, Hmm. I just don't know. I agree, concealer, even foundation makes the wrinkles under my eyes SOO very pronounced. I love the Mary Kaye firming eye cream - but I don't know if it would help with the dark circles.
Barbe - thanks for the intervention. Sit and Stay didn't work (well, I haven't tanned - YET)- maybe step away will. Doubt it.

Ok, heading over to Fumi's site. Can't wait to see those pics.
-
Regarding under eyes- do you have allegies? A friend looks like she was punched in the eye when the trees & grass come out...very bad shiners/dark circles. My dd used to have a lot of problems w/undereyes, until we figured out she is quite allergic to cats and dogs (we of course had 5 cats and a dog). Now that we are animal free (dh doesn't count) it has resolved itself.
-
Marin, so glad YOU're happy with the results. I know how worried you were.
Cannot imagine about the bruising, though. Did they drop you??? Just kidding! By bruising, do you mean yellow looking? That could have been the stuff they paint you with before surgery. I was pretty yellow-looking for a while, myself.
Now, Raye. Yellow-white??? Are you eating too many carrots? No fooling. Too much carotinoids can make your skin turn yellow. Ditch the health food and go back to eating cake.
-
When my son was younger he kept dark rings under his eyes. His doctor called them allergic shiners. When he did the allergy tests and we found out what he was allergic to (food - shrimp, soy, peanut, chicken, eggs - pollen multiple things) and we started avoiding the foods and taking allergy shots his shiners went away. Fortunately he out grew most of his food allergies.
Tina Does Carrot cake count as health food?
Sheila
-
YES to the carrot cake
-
Yes, to carrot cake! Or any cake.
No, I haven't been eating carrots - my dog does, maybe by osmosis I am getting the keratin? It's not really THAT yellow, just not pure white, and now that I look at my arms, I don't see it. Maybe it's the jaundiced light in the am streaming through. That is when I notice it. Silly me. Any excuse to tan.
-
Anyone want a microwave recipe for real carrot cake? Better than in a regular oven and foolproof.
It actually has about a pound of shredded carrot in it. Cream cheese frosting. MMmmmmmmmm.
-
Quit playing with our emotions and just post it Tina!
-
This sounds silly and certainly not make-up related but...I have a microwave but don't really know what to do w/it other than heat up leftovers. Found a really cool steamer from Tupperware but it has no directions! Tried finding instructions online but not finding what I need...any suggestions? It has a base, with insert that has lots of holes and a lid. I was thinking I could put in all ingrediants and then steam in mirco (saving time for cleaning
) -
Okay, I'll post it tomorrow morning. You do need a microwave bundt pan (fluted). Mine is a century old and made of some rigid plastic but there are new ones out of silicone. I've never used them. Check online someplace like google shopping.
As for the steamer, I would imagine you just add a few tablespoons of water in the base and hit "go." Watch it to make sure it doesn't dry out. I often steam veggies in the microwave but I simply use an old Corningware covered casserole with a bit of water. I keep it covered. Broccoli takes less then five minutes on high. Really good. If you like it crisper, try only a few minutes and test. So much easier and tastier than boiling the bejesus out of veggies. And, since you don't use much water, not so many nutrients leach out into it and get thrown down the drain.
Not that I am a health nut. I eat what I eat.

Now, go out and buy those fresh carrots. None of those pre-peeled ones, though. They taste crappy. Get the real deal.
-
Wel thanks, my chicas, for your comments on the boobs and for your undereye advice. I never had allergies to anything until chemo and NOW I keep the sniffles and watery, itchy eyes year-round. I could be allergic to my cats, but if that's the case, I'll keep the dark circles because they are my babies and aren't going anywhere! But I'll try foundation instead of concealer and see how that goes.
Ah Raye, as for tanning, my girl, can't you give the self-tanners another try? I know that you really want to stay away from the tanning bed, so at least try the alternative, huh? Now I will confess that I've been tanning (hey, I covered my breasts with a padded top!), but I'm making that choice. Maybe this is just another case of pathological denial on my part, but you don't need to go there too! Try the new tanners out this season first, okay?
~Marin

As for the permenant eyebrow liner.....the cost...Im not sure..she is a dear friend and did this for me pro bono. As for work, I went back to work the next day....no eye makeup, but I do not deal with the public. I love them....Would definately suggest...but be sure and look at before and after pics of other people they have done!!
-
Marin, it's good to hear from you! Hope all those bruises heal fast -- yikes! One way to look at it is that you have great circulation and lots of blood flowing around, which should help your healing process!! I'm glad the results look good.
-
Most brows I've heard are between 250-500 bucks. I did it the first time cause the lady needed money for Christmas and halfed her usual 500 fee. She also gave me the same price for the second time.----sure wish she'd have used some auburn tho.
I agree--ck our their work and look at their own faces. I was asked to sign a release, too.
-
Marin - you're so right - I need to stay away from the tanning beds, and don't actually mind being white if I am in shape - need to do some ab work big time! When I go to the beach in the summer, I will burn if I don't tan though (I can always come up with another excuse/reason/justification for tanning!). Also, my husband says that the creams do not look natural, BUT he doesn't want me to tan either. AHH.
But thanks for the advice, sweetie. Any recommendations on a good self tanner. I do like the Loreal Sublime, but it does not last long.
Kathi - great new avatar!!! lovely.
-
You will have to cut and paste this and take out the damn skipped lines when you print it out.
**************************************************************************
Microwave Carrot Cake
¼ cup graham cracker crumbs
2 ¼ cups all purpose flour
1 tbsp. ground cinnamon
2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. ground nutmeg
¾ tsp. salt
2 cups granulated sugar
1 ½ cups vegetable oil
3 lg. eggs
5 cups shredded carrots (1 ¼ lbs.)
(use that food processor)
1 ½ cups walnuts (6 oz.) chopped coarse
confectioners' sugar
Lightly spray a 12-cup microwave fluted tube pan with veg. cooking spray.
Add crumbs; tilt and rotate pan to cover bottom and sides.
Mix flour, cinnamon, baking soda, nutmeg and salt.
In a lg. bowl beat sugar, oil and eggs with wooden spoon until blended.
Stir in carrots and nuts, then flour mixture, until well blended.
Pour into prepared pan.
(If your microwave doesn't have a turntable, place filled pan on an inverted
glass plate or trivet or something in the microwave oven, rotating the pan a
quarter turn twice during cooking. This will not cause the cake to fall.)
Anyway, place cake in oven on medium-high 18 to 22minutes, until a
skewer inserted in center of cake comes out clean. Moist spots on surface will
dry as cake is standing.
Cool in pan on heatproof surface 10 minutes. Cake should pull away from sides
of pan.
Run a thin-bladed spatula around sides and center tube to loosen fully.
Invert onto rack, remove from pan and cool.
Dust top with confectioners' sugar. Makes 16 servings.
Per serving about 450 calories.
If you use a non-fluted pan, you can top with a cream cheese frosting.

Oh Tina, that sounds delicious! I hate all cake but angel food, spice and carrot cake. I guess you can buy the microwaveable cake pan in Walmart's?
Raye...believe it or not, my favorite self tanner is Jergen's. It might have a telltale smell the first day, but you just apply it regularly, shower on your normal schedule and towel dry gently (use a towel you don't mind staining at first until you get used to what pressure to use. I just dab all over). The Jergen's tans you gradually, doesn't streak unless you do a crappy job, and actually does moisturize as well. Plus, the price is right! Maybe you can just tan once a month or bi-monthly and use the self tanner in between? I can't believe that if you're super-vigilant about self-exams and have your PCP or derm check you yearly that you'll develop some festering, deadly melanoma overnight if you're only tanning monthly! I've discussed this with my internist (well-respected at UNC-Chapel Hill) and she just tells me to tan "occasionally."
Now, an update on the undereye circles....OMG, Barbe, I tried foundation last night when I was getting ready to go out and they pretty much disappeared! How did I not think of this before? I guess I just bought into the cosmetic companies insisting that we need something specially designed for the undereyes! Well, maybe some people do, but I'm using foundation from now on. Thanks for the great tip!
And about brows (those that aren't tattooed)...has anyone tried the new brow pen from Laura Geller? I saw it advertised in Women's Health and nearly ran to Sephora. It claims to "not smudge off"...IS THIS POSSIBLE???
~Marin
-
How much is the brow pen selling for? how many colors does it come in? Who is going to test it out for the rest of the group??? lol
-
Marin, you test it out on your wakeboard for us! Glad the tip worked...

-
I read the reviews on sephora and they say it is too orange-y for most. That might work for anyone with auburn hair.
The Anastasia gets good reviews.
-
Hi everyone,
I've been on bc.org for a long time but I'm a lurker to this topic. I hope you don't mine if I get back on the topic of tattooed eyebrows. An acquaintence who could have afforded to go anywhere for her eyebrows had a terrible job. Please be careful to do your homework on that one. She looks like Jim Varney. Anyone remember him? He was in the Ernest P. movies. Her eyebrows are stuck in this permanent surprise look and even with all my willpower, my eye is drawn towards them and it makes me compelled to lift my own eyebrows while talking.
Thanks for all your tips. I'm afraid that is the only advice I have to offer.
Picture from Ernest Scared Stupid:

Then I hope that Dotti sees this thread because her hair is auburn and she's been dissatisfied with her tattooed eyebrows. Maybe this pen would do the trick!
Here's a review of it on bellasugar. It only comes in taupe, brown, and dark brown, so I guess I'd try the taupe and maybe that's not orange-y?

Here's the Anastasia review on amazon. It sounds good too:

Hmmmmmmmmmm.....
~Marin
-
LOL. No thanks. Don't want to end up looking like Earnest.
Marin - I have some Jergens from like two years ago when we first started talking about this. I wonder if it is still good? The lotion does have an odor, I think that is why I didn't use it much or maybe I decided hell with it and to just go tanning.
