    Hello Ladies!

    Well I was back to teaching by myself tonight....felt great and boy did I work up a sweat, but I always do!

    Kari...my zumba classes are $5 each...but it depends on where you live.  I think $15 is high...I have seen them anywhere from $5-$10 per class.  But again, it depends on where you live.

    My Yoga classes are about $12 per class, 90 minutes and about 20 in the class. FYI.

    Yoga was good! I have gone all day without a ball cap, and think I am over that hump! Feels good!

    Lisa, man I wish I could go to your class!  California is a rip off for everything it seems...Good job on flying solo in Zumba!

    Spring, that's a pretty good price for such a long workout!  Kudos to you my friend on going all day without the ball cap, I haven't done that yet!  I was admiring my hair growth in the mirror this a.m.(well I do everyday, haha) and was trying to gauge when I will go without my wig to work and go out without my ballcap after work and on weekends...the times a comin'...

    I need to dye my hair first though.  I know Spring has done the henna thing.  Do we have to buy dyes that don't contain no ammonia?  I'm not sure I understand the hair dye thing and what to avoid.  I saw some natural hair dye at Walmart...and Whole Foods (expense though about $15)...any advice anyone?

    Oh last night, rode my bike (ok not far, my thighs were burnin)...then got home and walked, then home for stretching.  Felt sooooo good!!

    Kari-I started using Natural hair dye that I got from Target, has no ammonia.  I did this the first 3-4 times and then went to my hair dresser and she just used what she would normally use.  I guess waited about 4 months before going to hair dresser.  I just couldn't live with the salt & pepper look :)

    Dani,  I saw that you were detoxing and I was wondering if you were currently taking any Tamoxifen or any other percribed meds?  I'm wanting to do this detox but I do take Tamoxifen and Effexor, I'm planning on asking my onc if this detox would interfer with meds or not???

    Thanks Tiff (my younger daughter's name is Tiffany and I call her Tiff!!!).  I will try some of the natural dye, I sure didn't realize I had so much gray!!!!! YUK  My wig makes me look so young, then I whip it off and oh boy, the dark hair with gray hits me, and I look old, That certainly won't do!!! I'm a young 46 after all!Wink

    Still walking (40 mins today) & using the stepper. It makes me feel like I'm doing something to help myself maybe to not have a recurrence.... can't hurt.

    Lisa ~ The steel cut oats are wonderful! You are so right, I will never have regular oatmeal again. Why did I wait so long to try them!?! I soak them overnight & do them up first thing in the morning. I don't work outside the home, so I have the time.

    Val, glad you loved the steel cut oats.  There is no going back once you have had them!  I just throw mine in the crock pot...had them with dried cranberries, apples and tossed in some ground flax, along with brown sugar and cinnamon!  LOVE it!

    Even hubby and daughter like it...they both enjoyed a bowl this morning too!

    Did my hour of zumba last night...will be teaching an hour tonight as well.  Getting new stuff ready for a zumba fest we are having on the 24th...three hours of Zumba!

    OK I have to try the steel cut oats! 

    I took a break of exercise last night. We're on vacatoin next week, so lots of walking on the beach!!! We will be able to walk for longer than we ever did before, we're in such good "walking" shape! Tonight I am going to find a new pair of sneakers, I hope. My old ones are getting really pooped out! LOL.

    Got home yesterday and right back on the bandwagon. Eating healthy and went to the gym this morning.

    Spring have a great holiday but watch the sun after rads we are more sun sensitive.

    Lisa just reading your posts give me energy.Way to go girl.

    Mum, good for you! You are home and we are at the beach. I was pretty good today. Trying to avoid sugar. No dessert at dinner tonight!

    Hi Ladies

    It sounds like everyone is doing well and keeping up with their exercise programs!  Are we allowed to talk about the weather yet? If so, I would like to say that except for some wind it has been gorgeous here so I have been able to get outside and enjoy it!

    I am still doing a combo program: gym for weights, fast walking outside for both the dog and my health, and kick boxing for core and for therapeutic reasons.  I think it is almost time for gardening season....I sure do love to be out in the sun.  Unfortunately a little melanoma scare keeps me from complete enjoyment.

    PT-If you are worried about the sun, start taking more omega three and vit E. I cannot believe how much it has protected my skin. I biked all summer, no sun burn. We were AZ last year, and took a 4 hour hike. No sun burn!  Very little tanning too. This stuff has really made my skin soft too. I can't wait to get my new bike and hit the trails. It won't be long now. I HOPE!

    Yesterday rode my bike outdoors 20 min., walked afterward then shopping with a friend, walked all day...I was so tired, when I got home.  Still pooped this a.m.  Felt good though!  Had a massage Sat. night and it was divine!!!!!!

    Good morning, everyone ~  I was away for a few days, but happy to be home and back into my own routine.  Between being away and how horrible I felt on Femara and the passing out episode, I haven't walked for awhile.  But I easily completed 3.3 miles this a.m., and it felt so good to get back into it. 

    One thing I noticed about being away is how hard it is to eat really healthfully if you haven't given it any advance thought.  I've never eaten "bad" food, but the kind of diet I thought of as very healthy pre-bc, and which is fairly easy to get in restaurants, was lacking all the super healthy, raw foods I gravitate to and crave now.  And after 4 days of what other people would probably term healthy restaurant eating, I felt really yucky and sluggish.  Luckily, my DH totally understood, and he actually suggested the salad bar at Whole Foods for lunch one day, which was perfect.

    Lisa ~ I wanted to ask you exactly how you do the steel cut oats in the crock pot.  I've had some in my pantry for years (in a metal tin; are they still good???), but never made the time to cook them.  Do you put them on overnight?    Deanna

    I put the steel cut oats in my medium sized crock pot...it's probably about a two quart size.

    This is what I use:

    2 cups steel cut oats, 2 chopped apples, about one cup of dried cranberries, about 1/3 cup brown sugar, 2 tsps cinnamon, and about 5 1/2 cups water.  Turn it on low before bed (usually around 11 pm for me).

    I change it up all the time...other things I use are chopped walnuts, almonds, any type of dried fruit.  I've also used pumpkin puree and pumpkin pie spice...that was really yummy too!

    Hello all.

    Vivre, thanks for thinking of me.  Unfortunately I was diagnosed with early stage melanoma 6 months after I was diagnosed with bc so I don't think vit. E or Omega 3's will help me at this stage.  My doctor describes it like this:  When you are born you have an empty cup for sunshine and you are only allowed one cup per lifetime.  Throughout your lifetime, depending on your sun exposure, your cup fills up.  Some people's cup fills up faster than others.  Once your cup overflows you begin to show it by having skin cancers - and unfortunately melanoma is the big daddy of them all..... I guess that proves once and for all that "my cup has runneth over!"

    Lisa, although your recipe sounds delicious, I just can't get into any kind of warm oats.  (Unless it is oatmeal cookies!)  I try and try to like them but I just can't do it on a regular basis.  My husband loves them so maybe I will do the recipe for him.

    Deanna, good for you that you crave the raw veggies.  I absolutely love veggies and I am trying hard to spend the time to cut them all up ahead of time so that I can just grab and go.

    I did my kickboxing this am and will go to the gym tomorrow.  I get my tattoos done on Thurs AM so I am not sure if I will have any forced time off after that.

    Well it was my hour of Zumba today....

     Not happy ....it is SNOWING here and we are supposed to get 6 inches by tomorrow!  I'm so OVER winter!

    PT63, let me know how the tattoos go!  I'll be having the nips done in June and then on to tats!

    Lisa-Yep, we are sending the snow your way. Woke up and started singing "Walking in a Winter Wonderland". It melted fast though. Enough already mother nature! It is April (somewhere in the world anyway!). Walked all over the city today with my students. None of them complained, so it was a good day.

    Hi Ladies. 

    I too have heard that regular exercise (and 30 mins a day was the min) makes the 50% reduction in recurrence.  I am about 10kg over weight (sorry, a metric girl from Oz living in Canada) and two weeks out of lumpectomy/node surgery.  Our snow is almost gone and I am thinking of starting a 30 min walk around the block.  Maybe we can start a "good low fat recipe" section?  I struggle with the diet and wine a big luxury I think I need to now reduce.  Dinner parties here are big - though I do combine the water with the wine - keep it good.

    I have been doing my stretching exercises for my arm - not thought about anything else.  Now I can wear a decent bra I think a walk outside will be great - I'll come back and let you know how I go  :)

    We are all here to support each other but It has only been 2 weeks go slow.Have you added light weights to your arm stretches?Thats what my physiotherapist recomended and I really helped get my mobility back.

    I feel so bad for you gals getting snow!  I was watching the news and oh my!!  I got out of work yesterday and it was 85 degrees.  Couldn't believe it.  Today in the 60's with rain on its way.  We really need it, we are way below normal for water.  They are starting to fine in some areas for wasting water here.  Got out last night and rode my bike.  My legs are sore!  Didn't sleep too well though, so I'm feeling worn out today.  

    PT63, sorry to hear about your melanoma on top of the bc.  That sucks.  I appreciate your description from the doc.

    I haven't tried any light weights yet, scared about lymphadema.  I do have 1, 3, 4, 5, 8 lb. weights and I would like to start experimenting with them again.  Any particular movements I should avoid?  I will start slow with the 1 1b. first.

    Reporting in! We have walked on the beach at least 50 minutes every day!

    I tried the steel cut oats in a small crock pot and it overflowed, and got stuck to the sides!!! So smaller amount next time!!! They were very creamy and wonderful though, the part I could eat! LOL.

    OK confession: I ate for breakfast one day - 5 pancakes with syrup and butter, 2 eggs and 3 bacon strips!!!! I am surprised I didn't explode! Didn't do it but that once. Otherwise I've been okay. What was I thinking????

    Spring...lightly spray your crock with Pam!  That will help!  My crockpot that I use for the oats is probably a 2 quart, so if your's is smaller...only do one cup of steel cut oats! 

    Enjoy your vaca!  We are getting snow dumped on us now!

    I had my top to toe scans yesterday and I have the all clear, so I am now motivated to lose some weight and become strong and healthy again. The rads site is almost completely dead now too.

    I walked the dog this morning, but it really is hot here, perhaps I can do a swap with one of your girls who have the snow. I thought that it was spring in the rest of the world,so  is it usual to have snow in April?

    I went to a dance class put on the Breast Cancer foundation, here in Singapore, and my word, what a workout.  It is only my second time at the class so am having trouble learning all the new steps at once.

    The recipe for the oats sounds good, but are steel oats different from rolled?

    I'll send you all the snow you want!!!!  And yes, it is normal to get it in the spring.  We have a saying here, if you don't like the weather, just wait a minute, it will change!

    Yes, steel cut oats, sometimes referred to as Irish or Scotch Oats, are much healtheir than the rolled or processed oats.  They are the whole grain groats (the inner portion of the oat kernel) which have been cut into only two or three pieces...and resemble a piece of rice.  They have a nutty taste to them.

    I tried the rolled oats in the crock.....big mistake.  I'll try it again but this time I'll follow directions.
