Hair Hair Hair - Another question

i heart this thread. i never buzzed, so i still have some hair - albeit sad and sparse. i can't help but wonder, since i have naturally wavy hair, if mine will come back pin straight. i'd so LOVE that! but of course i will embrace the unruly curls, too.
one good thing about the wig - i don't dread the upcoming humidity. the other day it was drizzling, and i was like, hey, i finally have impermeable hair!
thank you for the beautiful pictures. you all have lifted my semi-bald spirits immensely!

I totally love your hair unique and goldie. yes!!!!!!!!!

Goldy and Unique,
Cute as buttons!!!!

Annie and Lori
Both of your hair look FABULOUS.
My hair is about the same lenth as Annie's. When did you finish chemo. My last one was Sept 30th.

Annie and Lori,
Both of you look great and are an inspiration to those of us following from behind. Annie I hope you tell me that from month 3 to 4 the growth exploded, cause I am almost 3 months out of treatment, and although I am thrilled to have hair covering my head, I do not think I will have as much as you in another 4 to 5 weeks..............but one can hope.
There are many small steps that are soooooooooooooo exciting post treatment (for me chemo and rads). Yesterday was the first day I wore a real bra in two months. I have been wearing sports bras and have been very comfortable although not too shapely...............lol. Last night as I was getting dressed to go out I realized my skin is pretty healed (it will be 2 weeks tomorrow since finishing rads) so I decided to try a bra. No problem, so I am feeling good about that milestone. My girls are still here and rather large, so this bra thing is a good thing.
I see the med onco this Wednesday and have my mile long list of questions. I hope he is ready for me...........lol. I will find out which aromatase I will be trying. Gotta tell you all that I am more scared about this phase than either chemo or rads....................worrying about the horrible side effects. But I will be a good girl and give it a try and hope for the best.
My hair is coming back in color as it was , like a gray with incredible white frosting. I am hoping it stays that way. People used to think I had it done that way. Unfortunately though, I think I will have to wait longer to go without any hat because where it is really white it looks like I have very little hair. I am waiting for that growth spurt and hope in another month I can go everywhere commando......................It is starting to get real hot here in southwest Florida....................80's already every day, so anything on the head is warm.
Annie and Lori you are my role models, thanks for posting the pics.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!
*Taking a bow*
Oh please girls, no thanks for this, please! I am posting a link, you can see all of my hair pictures, with dates. Don't want to post the pic, its too big. Would take up the whole page.
Lori, I finished chemo Sept 25th. I had one cut, and that was right before I colored it.
Caren, good luck at the docs. You can never ask too many quesions! As for SE on AI's. Everyone is different. I am on Arimidex. Mostly have sore feet at the end of the day after I sit for a few. I think every bone in both my feet hurt then. But I get up, move around, and it goes away in a minute or so.
Spring, WHERES YOUR PICTURES?
Well, lets see if I can figure this out!

Lori and Annie ! Oh my gosh you both look great! Lori-Great idea on documenting your hair growth, it's so nice to see!
Ok Annie you give me some hope here... I was getting nervous cause there's a thread about permanent hair loss from Taxotere and I just finished 2 weeks ago. If that's all it takes is 4 months out I CANNOT WAIT TO DITCH THIS WIG!
-
Lori, I need to take pics and post!!! My assignment!!! Will I get to bow??? LOL
Susan my homie, I thought I would need the wig a lot longer than I did. I think it all depends on how comfortable you feel with "other props" in the mean time, or au natural!!! I am still trying to wean myself off the ball caps!
I felt a leap of being more comfortable when I colored it with a henna, vs. the gray it was. Blech!!! I just hated having gray very short hair. Color made it more doable for me!
Caren, Yours sounds pretty! Horay for a real bra!!! LOL. It's the little things, no??
Spring.
-
Yes, props go a long way to making your short hair look like it's on purpose. I use headbands. I usually sweep the hair back just an inch or two and let it curl back over the headband. I changed that around today, as my hiar is a little longer and curlier, so I pulled the front hair out in front from under a very thin gold headband. It has kind of a Greecian look.
-
.....and where are your pictures NancyD?
Pictures are worth a thousand words!
Come on girls, post those pics.
Lori

First day at work with no wig. Yahoo for me!!!!!
Karen
-
No pix until I find the dang battery charger for the camera
-
Yes Nancy, I agree with Lori, I need a pic of that !!!
GO KAREN!!! How did it go? Did anybody say anything or look ???

Spring, My first "topless" day went well. I am glad that I finally bit the bullet. As a matter of fact, I had quite a few compliments on my "early summer haircut".
-
I went to work "topless" today, too. My head felt a little chilly (when I wasn't having a hot flash), so I might keep with scarves as well.
-
Lori and Annie-your hair grows so fast! You both look beautiful!
-
Battery's charging. I hope to have a new photo later tonight.

Hi ladies,
It's been quite a while since I visited this site. It's been fun catching up with you all and seeing the great pictures. My last chemo was Nov 20. On March 2, about 15 weeks since the last chemo, I went to see my hairdresser. I had very short, maybe 1/2" fine, straight, very soft and totally gray hair (I like Otter's house mouse description). My hairdresser said it was long enough to color. I had been coloring my hair since I was in my 20's, so I knew I had a lot of gray but it was totally gray and I'm 47 and didn't like it. A week later I was hosting a thank you luncheon for all the women in my life who were there for me these past 9 months. I had planned to wear my wig but I was running around the house like a nut for hours getting ready and got really hot. I just couldn't bear putting on the wig, so I put on a little more makeup and some pretty longish earrings and went for it. I had 17 women to my house and they were so excited and postiive to see my hair and kept telling me that it looked great. It really helped me get over the hair hump. I've since colored it again - it got really light quickly. It's now a medium/dark brown - the color helps it to look like more hair. It's about an inch long now and covers my head pretty well. Still straight and very soft (my daughter can't keep her hands off of it), but I'm thinking it will probably go through the curly stage after reading so many of your experiences. It's funny seeing acquaintances who don't know what I've been through and they say "wow, I like your haircut -it's really short and cute." Those of you who are contemplating a shorter wig as a transition - I can see why!
I'm still a bit impatient to have it be a little longer - it seems like it has stalled in growing the last couple of weeks, but is getting a bit thicker on top. Of course, like a watched pot - I'm staring in the mirror every time I walk by one.
Happy hair growth to all-
Diane

diane, what a wonderful story ... and what a thoughtful & loving thing to do for your friends, a thank you party! i am going to keep that in mind.
i'm having a hard time figuring out if i should just stay with one wig, or have fun and buy one or two more. the one i have is gorgeous and identical to my "usual" 'do, and part of me thinks it's more of a seamless transition. there are people at work who have no clue. so if i start wearing another wig, that's a huge red flag. (not that i'm hiding my treatments.) but i sort of want another one, a longer one, maybe a blonder one ... i guess, for the weekends or something. but i'm weirding out about not looking like "me". which is bizarre, because pre-diagnosis, i couldn't wait to wear wigs (for halloween, anyway). i need to find my happy & FUN place about this.
did anyone wear more than one wig to work?
-
Ladies, "topless" LOL!!!!
early summer hair cut. Love it.
A friend is coming into town Thurs and we're taking her to a nice place. I am having fits if I should wear my ball cap into the rest. or take it off and go "topless". ugh.
Diane, I am impatient to have mine longer toooooo!!!
Spring.
-
I say... go topless!! Pretend you have a 'rockstar' hair style...that's what my dear friend is doing. Her hair is short.. maybe an inch long....and she's colored it a pretty blonde....and it is sooooo cute!! she is just 3 months out from chemo....and it is just adorable. I am sure you look adorable too!
Stacy

Before I got my hair coloured I used blue hair jell and yellow hair jell. It was fun. My hair was only about half an inch maybe an inch.
Lori
-
Spring, definitely go topless! No one will say a thing at this point except complement you on your daring, youthful cut! And then you will feel so FREE!
-
Wow, Lots of votes for ditching that ballcap and going topless!
Question about first hair "cut". I am almost 5 months out from last chemo, and am wondering if I should go and get the hair around my ears and on back of neck "tidied" up a bit. Maybe then it would actually look more like a real cut?
Thoughts?
Spring.
-
Spring I went for a trim and color @ about 5 months out. I was soooo glad I did. My hairdresser had several options she showed me on styling my short "do". Nothing like a trip to the hairdresser to make you feel GREAT! After that vist I ditched my wig for good!
-
Lisa-I have worn 2 different wigs to work. Most people that I am close to here know what is going on anyway, so it is no big deal to me.
Ok so I got a little nervous last nite... and a question to those that were on Taxotere.... I am 3 weeks out this Friday from the last treatment and I figured my hair would start to come in, or at least stop to fall out, but last night I was able to pull out clumps !! Does this mean my baldness is yet to come? It never fell out all the way on Taxotere, so I thought I was going to get a jump on it coming back... but.... ;-(((
-
Springtime - I would definately go for a trim. That way it looks more like a style. Actually my hairdresser has trimmed mine twice since chemo, just to keep it neat.
Stacy - I also colored mine blonde and am much happier. As a matter of fact one of the guys at work told me that I looked like a rock star (oh yea,a short, fat rock star from the 1970's).
-
karen.. too funny! Plenty of rock stars from the 70's are short and fat!!
-
Ladies, you are so helpful, I will get a trim!!!
OK, as a warm up, today I am going out to a friends house "topless" - no ball cap. gulp. I will report back.
AND I put on mascara for the first time since I lost my eyelashes!!! IT IS GREAT!!! Wooooo!!!!
Susan, I had Taxol, and it seemed to start growing a teeny bit during that, and didn't come out. Didn't have Taxotere. ....
Spring.
-
OK, as promised, I'm uploading some photos of my new hair. Chemo ended the end of August, and I ditched my wig just before Christmas. I colored my hiar before then just to see what it looked like and I'm glad I did as my usual brand and color did not come out right.
No real cuts yet, just my own trim of the back ends and the front a bit to even things out.
