Julie~ damn girl, march does suck for you. My heart goes out to you and family. *sigh

Jackie~ Sure hope that surgery room is big enough for all of us. You KNOW we are going to be there holding your hand and holding onto shovels to make sure that doc takes good care of you. Try not to giggle about it as you drift off into peaceful slumber. ;o)

Rock~ did you get my postcard yet?

My gf is having her surgery at the end of april. I plan on taking care of her best that I can while at work (I work in the basement offices). This is her first surgery. I told her 6 more and she can catch up to me LOL. Yup, I've had 7 so far.... I'm running out of body parts to take out.

Not much to report here. No news is good news right? love and hugs, Jen

Greetings to all but especially to Jackie. Wishing you well and praying you an uneventful recovery.

It's been wonderful to DH and I having DD home for here spring break.  She brings joy to us when she is around.

I've enjoyed reading the comments about the shovel brigade and had some hearty laughs while learning new terminology.

Need to prep fpr an early morning so I bid you all good night.

Jackie you will probably have been in and out again when you read this post..so just know that I was thinking of you every minute. What a shite thing this all isFrownLucky we have got so many good things going on..like learning new words and enjoying our families. Julie, what is the go with the backpacks? And what goes in them? Good on your girls! I'm cooking a kind of raspberry upside-down cake for desert for the boys tonight but STUPID me put the bottom piece of the spring-form pan in upside down, and for the last 20 minutes toffee-like stuff has been leaking out and burning on the bottom of the oven. Sigh. The bottom of the oven was a bit grimy before I began and now....grrrrrr..I put a tray of water under it a little too late.  Sad news at school. A little fella in Grade 2 (7yo?) has an aggressive inoperable brain tumor. He will be in a wheelchair in about 10 days and will only live at best about 2 months. Makes my boob thing seem a bit insignificant, really. Please pray for his Mum and Dad, and for the only sibling, a big brother. Prayers are all that is left, really, and I know we are pretty fecking hot at talking to GodLaughingMy role as school chaplain will take a nasty turn when the time comes..until now it has been all sunshine and light. But a child dying...nah..nope.   Love you all. And I wish my chooks would lay.

    Morning Ladies,

Gracie , with me being a couple hours behind you in time you have probably already have had your operation, just hoping everything went well and hugs for a speedy recovery.

Randie, hope you are breathing easier  with having the draining done, and you can minimize the pain you feel.

Julie glad to hear your dad is coming home, but darnit.....sorry to hear about your aunt, enough already for you !

Kerry it is so sad when something like you explained happens to a child, my heart just aches for his family,  No words can ease a families grief at this time so  I  am sending prayers that  the time they have left with their little guy... is quality time and  he can go to a more peacefull place without any pain. They will be lucky to have you around for support !   I agree with you in that it kinda puts what we are going through into perspective .

Sorry to freak some of you out with the mastectomy side mammo , as i said i didn't think it was possible either. It was vertical squish starting just underneath the arm and getting whatever she could on that side. Actually when i use my hand to simulate what the squisher would be doing i do get a handfulll especially just to the side of the armpit . It didn't bother me any more than doing the boob.  So bring it on especially , if there are any nodes that can be picked up or anything else lingering there.

Had a great weekend....our friends were truly surprised and we spent the night eating , reminicing , laughing and drinking a bit too much wine. The head was a bit fuzzy in the morning, just can't do it like i used too, which tells me I shouldn't be doing it like I used too !Wink

Everyone else hope you have a great Monday !

    Cheers!

Just talked to Gracie's hubby (I think) and he said she came thru just fine from the surgery. They were waiting for her to come out of recovery. I thought I had her home phone and was going to leave a get well message for her for when she got home, I was a tad shocked somebody picked up the phone LOL. So Jackie when your hubby says some weirdo chick called... that was me <blush>

Good on you, Jen, for calling - that will make her day!  Hugs to you, Jackie (very, very gentle ones..lol)

Kerry - Oh, ouch.  That just does break my heart.  Prayers going out furiously...

Randie - Yes, cancer does suck indeed.  Take your anger out on those bad mafia dudes!  lol...

My bright spot today is getting to spend some time with my friend and her almost 2-week old baby boy.  I haven't seen him since he was 2 days and maybe he'll open his eyes this time!

    Later, girls...

Gracie - glad it sounds like things went well.

Kerry - no words for the child and his family. I don't even know them and my heart aches for them. Thanks for sharing, the more prayers the greater the power to deal with it.

Today was my first day with Jeremy. We did hit if off last week at our meeting because when he saw me he came running and gave me a jumping hug. I caught him and spun him around. We had a really good morning and I fell in love with his Dr. Jekyll side. You can't help but love him. I hope we have some more great days before he introduces me to his Mr. Hyde side.

Jackie - sounds like you are doing well.  We won't stop sending good vibes your way yet.

Jen - thanks for updating us.  I know we all were thinking about her today.

Robin - glad you are enjoying the time with your daughter.

Angels - glad your surprise for your friends was nice.  Sounds like fun.

Cris - glad you got to spend time with a baby.  Those are always the best times.

Sorry using so many "glads" today.  It is nice when everyone has good news and normal news.

Rand - woo hoo for you!

Karin - woo hoo for you making a new friend.  Maybe he won't need to show you his Mr. Hyde side.

Kerry - very sorry for your little guy.  That does just break your heart.  Sending prayers to his family.  You asked about the backpacks.  Twice a year our scouts do a community service project.  This one involved buying backpacks and school supplies for kids that can't afford them.  We used the proceeds we earned from cookie sales and some girls donated items personally.  We filled them with crayons, markers, glue, ruler, notebooks, basic supplies.  I found decent backpacks at Wal-mart that would work for either girls or boys.  We always participate and the girls get cool patches.  We helped the local food pantry in the fall.  We've planted trees at the local nature center and helped at the local humane society in the past.  The girls love anything where they can give back to the community.

My dad did come home from the hospital today.  Still has antibiotics and prednisone, just not the large doses.  He was feeling pretty good and was glad to get home.  My aunt was having tests done and working with a neurosurgeon at a hospital in Columbus, OH so we really don't know too much yet.  My mom did talk to her so that was good.  Only one more day of March - please get us through it.

    Later ladies - Julie

Jackie -- For some reason, I got goosebumps of the good variety when I heard that you and Jen spoke.  YAY. I hope you are on the road to recovery and that the biopsy results come back as dull as dirt.

I'm sorry about the free-form suckiness that is going around in terms of hospitalized relatives and kids with brain tumors. But superstar daughters hitting homers and babies and hair that you can feel in the breeze . .  . good stuff indeed.

RanD: Growing up, when our chooks went through a big laying phase, my mom took to making chiffon cakes because each one used about a dozen.

Oh! Oh! Better idea!  Easter/Pagan Spring is coming and there are two cool things you can do!

    1.  Use a pin or a needle to poke a little hole -- about the size of ... um . . . a large-ish freckle? a small ladybug?? in each end of the egg and blow out the contents into a bowl.  Then rinse them really well.  Then decorate them as usual and afterwards, spray them with varnish so they're a bit shiny and not so fragile.

    2.  If you add a little oil to the food coloring you get these marvelous marbling effects.  So you can dip the egg in one color (usually the lighter color), wipe off the excess oil and let the dye dry and then dip it into another color.

Sue:  I want to say something deep on the occasion of your retirement but am coming up short. (I'm posting today because I don't know whether I'll be near a computer tomorrow.) I believe I will stick with the overall theme of this post which seems to be "I have the emotional depth and the interests of a 9 year old."

S: Is for the Skies that she ruled.

U: Is for Ummmmm as I try to come up with something that begins with "U."

E: Is for Every plane crash she averted.

P: Is for Planes, but of course

E: Is for her Excellence, in planes and all things life.

R: Is for Really happy that I know Sue.  And Retirement. Enjoy it. If you brought a fraction of the calm and strength and steely poise to being an air traffic controller that you brought to these boards, then the skies were definitely safer for having you look over them.

Sue -- I wonder if there is a way you can post the link of you being an air traffic controller here or on FB? (It's a huge file so maybe that's not possible.) To hear Sue in action is to love her even more.

Rock, I sure as hell now know how you earned that Fullbright ROFL!!!!    Sue, I got misty at the thought of you retiring..YOU MADE IT!! feck the cancer-interruption..YOU MADE IT!! And you get to step into the real world full of joy and hope and peace. Oh! How cool is that???!!! Much love to you!  Thanks for the prayers for little Callum. It's unbelievable really. And while I am typing this I have a large kitten sound asleep stretched out across the top of my boobs. Life is so rich and interestingLaughingJulie that sounds awesome about the backpacks. The dad of one of my little blokes nearly went to jail recently for drug trafficking, which sent the kids into a pretty black place. So little Dylan and I are making and selling jelly cups next week to raise AUD$68 so we can buy (through Oxfam) a breeding pair of goats for a family in the Solomon Islands. Yep, this is BIG business. We were going to go for one pig for AUD$39, but I was a bit uncomfortable about how the pig would end up. At least the goats can breed, and can produce milk. Dylan is well pleased, I can tell you! That's how life is, isn't it..darkness and light, joy and sorrow. Love (with all joy and no sorrow) to all of you! XX

Just a quickie, while my dh's aunt bakes some banana bread and we all drink our 4th cup of coffee...

Hi to everybody:  Way to go Jackie! Hope you're feeling better.  ranD, I love reading your posts 'cause you sound so, um, upbeat (I was gonna say "positive" but then I thought better of it).  Karin, I'm glad things are going well with Jeremy.  Julie, hugs to you and your dad (and the rest of your family).  Sue, my hair is still curly-curly.  (When will that end?)

rock, "U" is for "UTC", the international abbreviation for "Coordinated Universal Time" or "temps universel coordonné" or "Greenwich Mean Time."  UTC is the time system used for aviation throughout the world.  Sue would know all about that.

More coffee.  otter needs more coffee.

Got my results back today... all clear. One weird thing though. The doc who read my ultrasound said my implant was in place........ I don't have implants. So surgeon and I thought about it and it dawned on me, they use a gel pack to read the scar area so it must have been that he saw. We got a good laugh out of it. I pretty much got a pat on the head and sent out the door for another 6 months. Uneventful :O)

Gotta get back to work, Luv ya'll! Jen

Noelle, Good luck with your herceptin. Praying for no heart problems.

    Yeah Jen, great news!

Here's one for ya, my oldest daughter has decided to move back home and change her major. I'm thrilled that she's moving back home. Her younger sister can use her lead. She has decided to go to cosmetology school. She assures me that she'll finish her 4 year degree. I told her as long as she's happy, I'll support any decision she makes. I still think she would've made a great teacher, like you Ms Karin, but I respect her decision. She'll succeed in whatever career path she chooses.

In honor of Sue's retirement, here are a few choice quotes:

When you see some people work, you wonder what they'll do in retirement.- Unknown wise person

When men reach their sixties and retire, they go to pieces. Women go right on cooking.- Gail Sheehy

We have no porch, no rocking chair - and no time. My biggest need is a calendar because there are so many things to do. Now I encourage people to retire - the younger the better.- Maurice Musholt

Retirement, when every day is Saturday! - Unknown wise person

    Cris,

Thanks so much for the quotes.  It's 4:15 a.m. and I have gotten out of my warm soft bed for work for the last time.  It feels so good, and of course I will miss all the people, but I won't miss the bulls&*t. Today I will just be checking out and returning keys and ID badges (badges?!?) and hugging people goodbye for now.  Everyone says keep in touch but I wonder how many really will.  Another opportunity to find out who your friends are?  I am always surprised. I feel reflective on my life's work so far, and calm, and  ready for the next adventure.  I can't wait to see what happens next. Yesterday one of the controllers asked me if I wanted to come down and work airplanes this morning and I said, No thank you.  I lost my medical a year ago because of bc, and I did not know the last time I worked airplanes was the last time.  That's how I want to leave it, sort of, I went out at the top of my game. I will miss feeling like I am one of the few who can do my job (feeling important).  I know I am still important, just not sure how it;s all going to fit together now, I just know it WILL.

Thanks May women for listening. My cousin, Mary Ann, who had been an alcoholic for as long as i can remember, died in her sleep night before last. She was 46. I am so, so sad.  We grew up together, she always looked up to me, we talked on the phone every couple of weeks, and every time I went home she made time for us to get together just me and her. I will miss her forever. And I am angry at the waste. I will be traveling tomorrow thru Sunday for the  funeral and will probably be out of  touch.

Again, thanks for listening.  I love all of you and wish we could do a group hug this morning, I could sure use one.

    Love,

    Sue

    Sue,

    CONGRATULATIONS on retirement!

PM me details on the surgery- location time etc - I am seriously looking into scheduling a trip up there to Dallas to bring chocolate! How long will you be in the hospital?

Roxi - I have one back at home still working on finishing college - mine is my difficult child though so it has been a challenge - I love the time my college girl comes home becaues she is such a positive note on everyone at the house!

13 year old DS had toe surgery yesterday- ingrown teonails really bad (I had them too) so they took out the sides on his two big toes and killed the roots- he is doing great and I took a day off to "care" for him which was just sitting around playing. DD won their softball game last night!

Prom is this weekend- I have a condo reservation for DH and the two boys, DD is bringing 4 friends to the house after prom to hang out on the patio- just chips and dips, cookies etc - they just want to stay up late LOL and I would rather them at the house than on the roads. Taking DS to a Gaither Homecoming concert Saturday afternoon- he LOVES Mark Lowrey who is in the Gaither vocal band.

Today is LAST post surg check from the hysterectomy and a bone density test (baseline since Im on Femara) and Friday is NEXT TO LAST Herceptin! Friend here having a mast tomorrow and heading into chemo and rads (Sound familiar) so Im going to be her cheerleader since Im on the finish line and she is just starting- she also has a 16 year old daughter who plays softball with my daughter - hoping we can help them through their next year!

Happy weekend everyone if I dont get back on here much- a couple of crazy weeks coming up on our schedule (Im playing piano Plam Sunday and Easter Sunday- Yikes)

    Kristy
