    coffee

Location: STARBUCKS                  Elliot & Priest, Tempe
                     1620 W. Elliot Road #106
Tempe, Arizona 852841024 Time: 10 AM Date:  Saturday, April 11th (would of planned this the first week in April, except I will be on a women's retreat with my church)   RSVP by: April 8th (through email or by phone) Let's have a nice time visiting and getting to know one another better!

    coffee

Fun Fact about Starbucks: Starbucks got its name from Frank Starbuck a young first mate in the 1851 novel Moby Dick. How did they come up with that name? Actually, one of the original owners of Starbucks was a Moby Dick fan and he thought of naming Starbucks Pequod the name of the ship in the novel. But the other owners disagree because they wanted a name with a local Seattle flavor and they want the name Starbo. Starbo was the name of a old mining camp on Mt. Rainier. As a result, they combined the Moby Dick idea and Starbo and came up with the name Starbucks.

Hi everyone, I am feeling much better today.  The pain is  better and I am not as stiff!!!  Still taking my pain meds but have reduced the dosage...The girls look good....and the incisions look fantastic...not red, and I have not had any oozing.  She used a different shaped expander this time.  It has a more natural appearance.  More sag to them....lol  but I am glad they dont look like the previous rock hard grapefruits.....what a journey....

I plan on coming for the coffee get together at Starbucks.  I will bring my laptop and a cd of the Chihully pics.  There were just too many to download from hubbys computer and then try to email them.

Hope your all having a great weekend.  I was hoping to make it out to Tempe for the art festival but I know I am not up for that!  Thankyou so much for keeping me in your thoughts and prayers....Time for a little nap  Smile

    Hugs, Karen

Karen: Glad you're feeling better after having the expander replaced. Did you have your surgery at Mayo? How's the lapband going? You are so brave to take on all of this!

I know that my daughter works with a lot of post-DIEP patients at Mayo. So if you ever have a blonde nurse named Anne, tell her that you know her mom!

Wishing you a great recovery - Sue

    Hello Ladies,

I don't live in Phx but I am about a hour north of you all in the Cottonwood/Sedona area.  I was dx with mulitcentric DCIS with intermediate & high nuclear grade and IDC Nottingham grade III of the right breast on Friday 5-15 (ER/PR receptors and HER2 still pending).

I am still trying to process the news, maintain a positive attitude and prepare myself for whatever may come but there are so many unknowns at this point that the fear keeps blindsiding me at the oddest times.

I have been referred to a surgeon in North Phx and I am wondering if any of you have heard of Christi Bourne at Breast Care PC?  I don't know anyone in the Phx area who can go to for advise and it would really be comforting to know more about what I am up against and the surgeon I have been referred to.

Thank you in advance for your input.

Welcome you can come from any part we all care. Searching on the internet this is what I came across.

    About Dr. Bourne:

Christi Bourne, M.D. began her practice in general surgery in Phoenix in 1990, after completing her surgical residency at Boston University. She graduated magna cum laude from UCLA with a degree in English literature before attending medical school at UC Davis. She is a member of Phi Beta Kappa, was voted into Phoenix Magazine's Top Docs, and received the Terese Lasser Award for Outstanding Service from the American Cancer Society. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, reading, and the company of her two children, Julia and Gregory.

This was on there website. Have you been on it yet?

Also my Dr is really wonderful if you want to see if your insurance takes her. Her name is Dr. Lise Walker. From the sounds of it I think Dr. Bourne sounds like a good doctor. Did you ask on the forum if anyone else has heard of her? You might get a better response that way.

Cottonwood is nice. My mother loves to go up there a lot. Sorry to hear that you are having to face this in your life. You will find the women on here are really great. When are you coming down for your appt? I live in Glendale. I am not to far from where your appt is. Do you have someone to go with you? Let me know cause I can meet up with you if you like.

    Blessings

    Elizabeth

KinAZ:  thanks for the pm - I sent you one back with lots of questions Embarassed

Ebann:  I'm not sure where or how to post a question like on the forum... still learning how to navigate the site.Laughing  My gyn recommended Dr. Bourne for BS and said she is great so I will meet with her first and decide from there. My appointment is Tuesday, May 26th at 1pm. I also have a consult with a PS (Dr Bryan Gawley) the same day at 10am - found lots of really positive info on him on the web.  My husband is going to the appointments with me and a tape recorder and a three ring binder full of questions Laughing  I'm not sure how long the PS appointment will be, especially since I am meeting him before I meet the surgeon.  I am leaning towards a bilat mx with adjustable implant/alloderm recon (at least that's what I came up with during all my research - guess I'll have to find out from the doc's if it is feasible).

I would love to meet you maybe for a coffee/tea between appointments.  If that works for you let me know - I'll pm my contact info.

Cottonwood is a great town - I am a fifth generation local.  Unfortunately I am not very confident of the hospital/surgeons in the area.  We do have several really excellent Onc's in the area so that is a relief.

Thank you both for you posts and input.

    Best Wishes,

Welcome Michelle - Sorry you have to join our Arizona group, but hope we can help you in any way you need. I also chose Lise Walker as my breast surgeon at the recommendation of a friend and have been very happy with her. I had a unilateral mastectomy and she did the one-year check-up of my remaining breast in January and was very thorough - diagnostic mammogram, ultrasound and MRI. She recommended my plastic surgeon, Dr. Ali Mosharrafa, and I also am very happy with him. I finished reconstruction in November.

Hope to see a lot of you at lunch next weekend,

    Sue

KinAZ, Ebann:  I am in Phx again this weekend (getaway with hubby and NO kidsKiss).  I don't have my email addresses with me but wanted to let you both know 'I GOT THE JOB'  - They are willing to wait until I recover from surgery (June 23rd)...so early - mid August???  My ONC is currently suggesting TCHx4 + Herceptin 1yr and Tamoxifen 5 yrs (ugh!!).  Of course all that is subject to change if we find lymph node involvement, etc. during surgery but I am hoping for the best!!

Suemed:I am hoping to make it to the luncheon on the 13th  but with everything coming to a head over the next few weeks I hate to commit and then not show up...Somewhere in the back of my mind I think I might have committed to a kid swap next weekend to help the parents who took my kids this weekend recover Laughing

Ebann: Can you send the invite again to my home email?  I think my hubby deleted it by accident...I'll let you know if I can make it as soon as I know...

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend

    Hi All-

Can't believe I have never seen this thread in last year, I am on often and just never came across it. I would love to join you all.

I am in Sdale, just finished a year of Herceptin and for the question above also chose Lise Walker for BS and was very happy. She comes recommended as top Doc for this type of surgery in AZ.

If you all get together please let me know.

    Thanks Michelle

    Hi Everyone-

For those in the West Valley I wanted to make you aware that the Bosom Buddies group will be meeting Thursday, July 2 at La Quinta Inn by the Peoria Sports Complex from 630-830pm.  The meeting will have a speaker who will be discussing  rebuilding the body from the inside out after a cancer experience.  Members will have an opportunity to sample three of these modalities, Kum Nye (Tibetan relaxation), Qi Gong (energy flow exercises) and Hatha Yoga (physical postures to promote well being).

The group meets the first Thursday of the month.  Hope this finds everyone well.

Sorry group been out of the loop latelly. I have just been dx with Lymphedema and am seeking PT for it and getting fitted for a sleeve and glove this Monday. I am very discourage. It seems to be one thing after another for me. So I have been depressed and on my pitty party. I think I am done now. I hope everyone is doing well. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone. Joy loved her card. She really needed that. Looking forward to our next get together. Looking at August sometime. I am thinking about a game night/day. It will be fun and delight to see everyone again.

    Blessings,

    Elizabeth,

Oh sweetie how frustrating and disappointing I am sure!  Hopefully the PT will help you. Hang in there!

I'm so sorry i havent participated much with the group.  I've decided to go back to school and I've become a volunteer for two different agencies so that has been keeping me busy.  I wish you all the best! Amira

Karen - I posted this, but don't see it now.  User error, I guess.

Is there a get-together planned for Sept?

How are you doing with your recon progress?
