Thanks, Robin. We live in Charleston, IL and they live in Mt. Carmel - just 2 hours south of us.
I envy anyone who isn't afraid of color on their walls.
Our weather has improved a little. DD went outside without jacket and her arms were very cold when she came back in. Wonder where I was when that happened?
-
Julie, so sorry to hear about your uncle. We will be praying for your family.
DAT after shopping all day with dh and 3 kids- had to get band clothes for one, flannel shirt for the school play for Joe, ended up getting 3 shirts for me and 2 for Valerie, a dwarf rabbit for Adam and a chicken hutch for Joe- he wants some baby chicks and we need a place to grow them until they are big enough for the chicken coop. Then dinner at Jasons deli (a fave of mine)----- lets see- hubby got zilch except dinner and hauling all of us around- but he didnt need anything either. I got 2 sweathers on the 7.98 rack at NY and Company in a deep orange color- my new color with my new hair- hope the cold weather holds out a little longer so I can wear them this year!
Gotta fix something for potluck but Im thinking I can cook in the morning!
Kristy
-
Kristy - shopping sounds fun except I have to take mine tomorrow to find clothes for this funeral. Katie has bottoms and shoes that fit. Riley has tops so ... should be a long day. Have fun at your pot luck!
I talked to Jen tonight. She called me. I was so excited and it was a pleasant surprise on a sucky day. Thanks!
-
Julie - So sorry and sending warm, long hugs your way.
Karin - Well, you are the clever one, aren't you?! I love that quote also - I'll have to google it and find more.
Quiet day at home here - nice for a change...
-
Jen, I grew up in Toledo - my parents still live just outside there, in Maumee.
Randie, I applaud your persimmon kitchen. I've been thinking about painting mine (and thinking, and thinking . . . it was going to be last summer's project, but, well, we all know how last summer was). Right now the room still has the old-lady wallpaper it had when I bought the place (from an old lady, natch) more than ten years ago. Wallpaper in a kitchen is kind of weird, but this woman was a serious wallpaper freak. I stripped layers and layers of it off in the rest of the house, but the stuff in the kitchen was in decent shape, so I left it. Mistake: much, much better to do your redecorating when there's plenty of new-home adrenaline coursing through your system. Otherwise, it won't happen. (That's my experience, anyhow.)
I was envisioning curry. Or saffron. Maybe apricot. But persimmon sounds like it would be a great choice, too.
On the dense breast issue: there's a study on the bc.org main page that casts some light on how this is measured. Using a percentage, like the radiologist who read my mammo did, is one way - it sounds as though there's a category that goes up to >75%. So, Randie, you're right on: I'm not the densest breast on the board! And here I was, thinking I had a breast so dense, bullets would bounce right off it. Way to burst my bubble . . .
Daughter's 16th birthday is Tuesday, so we had a celebratory dinner with my parents yesterday. Made gumbo (dishing my daughter's bowl up before the evil shrimp went in)* and a spectacular lemon layer cake.
Julie, I am so very sorry about your uncle, and am sending comforting thoughts to you and your entire family.
Linda
*She didn't object to the okra - how about that?
-
Kerry, your post was on another page, so naturally I forgot about it, but I just wanted to say how poetic I found your gardening description. It made me want to go outside and play in the dirt - but unfortunately, the ground is still frozen here.
"Silverbeet." I'm pretty sure that's what we yanks call chard. Silverbeet sounds ever so much nicer.
Linda
-
Love you all and your infinite chattiness.
Julie, thinking about u and yr family.
I have 3 days off and am not gonna work unless I have to.
Had a lovely dinner out with the TV decorator celebs Colin and Justin last night.
More on that later. Prolly
in a blog post that will show up on FB.
Some perspective and good energy came from them. They are so excited and generous.. they would not let us pay for dinner so we split it... and there was a ton of brainstorming about how they could help my store.
I am either gardening or shopping today.
Should not spend money, but I do not care...
Should be able to find out today if going to Mich in April will work or not.

(...I'm juggling 2 Firefox windows so I can see all the posts since last time and write in this little box...)
It looks like nearly all of us have the exact same hair. Must be a standard-issue hairstyle for women recovering from chemo. We're so happy just to have hair, that we're not real picky yet. I am still struggling with (i.e., resisting) the "curly-girl" method (sorry Noelle)--I'm just not used to my hair feeling oily. OTOH, that disaster with the leave-in conditioner the other day taught me that some experiments can go wrong. I posted on FB that it smelled like a funeral parlor, but I was being polite. It smelled like a whorehouse.
Julie, I'm so sorry to hear about your uncle. I'll admit to hanging around the Mets board sometimes, and even peeking at the new thread the metsters started on the Palliative forum. It's giving me a new perspective on death and dying. (I can't believe how hard it is for me to type--much less say--the "D" word.) If there was a way to do it privately, and quietly, I'm for that.
Re: Breast density. Linda, revkat, & Cristine, I'm interested in that breast density stuff, too. At my mammo last August, the radiologist told me my remaining breast was "dense enough to hide a Mack truck," and it would be difficult to see any changes. But she didn't say how dense a breast had to be to conceal a truck. So, last week I picked up a copy of my official mammo report, but that didn't help either. All it said regarding the density was, "The breast contains primarily residual glandular (dense) tissue." So, how dense is that? <sigh> I'm hoping things will become less murky with more time on Arimidex.
What I'm not doing today: shoveling manure, painting the kitchen, making gumbo, buying squeaky toys, shopping for clothes. What I might do today: clean the WD-40 off my newly repaired sewing machine (what did they do--dip it in the stuff???), hang some pics of our granddaughter, cut the legs off the brand-new headboard for the guest bed (don't ask), and watch it rain some more. That's the beauty of retirement (hey, Sue!).
Hugs to all...

Karin -- the thing you did with our pictures is just cool, cool, cool.
Julie -- Oh, sweetie. That is hard news.
Noelle -- I do love living vicariously. Okay, so fill me in on who these two guys are! (There's got to be a website, right?)
Nothing newsworthy here. Still grappling with my college housemate's diagnosis. Went to lunch and a play today with my former student who lives here in Cape Town. Did I mention that she is a model? Yeah, it's a bit difficult to be around her feeling the way I do about my appearance sometimes, especially since she is quite critical of her own. (She was in a Beyonce video.) I try to just nip it in the bud and say (albeit with a resolve I do not always feel), "Listen, we both look GREAT. In ten years we will both wish we had the bodies that we have now so lets enjoy 'em!"
Everybody... I love reading what's going on with your lives. I really do. Shopping, painting rooms, greenhouse plans, sewing machines... I love it all.
Good night from beautiful Cape Town!

Linda - stipping off all that wallpaper doesn't sound like a task I'd care to tackle. Glad most of it's behind you. Just took a look at the color we painted in part of the kitchen. "Earthern Red" It was supposed to be red clay color but that it not what it looked like once we started painting. Guess it has a hint of purple in certain light. DH and I were pleased with the unplanned color change.
Today we went to a beauty supply store that is supposed to carry Deva products, was looking for the smaller bottles of Low Poo and Angel but the shelves were empty. Asked a store clerk to check the store room but there was none to be had. Guess I'll be ordering from the internet.
Otter - did soak your hair in the olive oil help?
Noelle- enjoy your 3 days off.
More later...
-
Thank you all for your kind words and prayers. The visitation is Tuesday evening and the funeral is Wednesday morning. My mom said they had been out to dinner with friends Friday evening to celebrate his birthday which is tomorrow, had a great time and just didn't wake up Saturday. They think he had a massive heart attack.
I got through shopping with my children. I think I did a fine job of keeping my patience. They both came home with me LOL. We started out at Cato and my Katie just stood up by the window and said there wasn't anything in there that she would wear - all old women stuff. Riley was determined to get black shoes with about 3" heels. She is too old enough, she's 10 you know. And the day didn't get any better. But they have appropriate clothes to wear and shoes that should fit for this occasion. Bad behavior is not being rewarded with computer time tonight, except me, I'm the boss! Tomorrow I go to shop for me, by myself!
Noelle - can't wait to hear more details about your dinner. And we don't want to hear that you did work on your days off.
Karin - love what you can do with pictures. You are a wizard!
Linda - is your daughter having a Sweet 16 party? Gumbo sounds good.
Gardening sounds good - I almost have daffodils - just a few more days. And I like the sound of a persimmon colored kitchen. We've been in our house 8 years and the people before us (my daughter's math teacher) had a large, brightly colored paisley print on lots of walls - kind of made you sea sick if you looked at it too much. We rented a steamer to take it off and it was the best money every spent.
Have a happy Monday, everyone!

Just back from skiing in Steamboat for 6 wonderful days!! I was able to read all the posts via my blackberry, but could not post myself. I really missed all of you and being able to comment on all that has been going on.
I received a call from a 937 area code on the top of the mountain, just as I jumped off a ski lift. I could not hear anyone . . . reading the post I was wondering if it was one of you. Jen, I may owe you a call!?!?! Thank you also for the post card!
Gracie - I am praying for Karli and your family. I am sorry to hear the news and thankful that she has such a loving, caring, and strong Grandmother in her life.
Julie - So sorry to hear the news, sending warm thoughts and prayers your way!
Karin, every time I saw your photo, I smiled!
First vacation in a year and it was wonderful! I missed all of you, smiled as I read your words and wanted you all to know how significant you are in my life.
Lot of love to all!
Jean

Jean~ you mean to tell me that I'm not important enough to stop skiiing and answer the phone for!?!?! Well, I never! I, KID I, KID! (I'm giggling as I type this) I figured you were probably out and about and that was your home number. There will be many more calls in the future, so no biggie. :O)
Otter~ I was kinda leery about the not washing my hair daily thing as well. But using the conditioner on the no shampoo days does make a difference. I can go a max of 2 days though before I have to use the shampoo.
Called my mom up yesterday and had her and dad meet us at the international grocery store in cincy (Jungle Jim's). We spent 3 hours walking around and still missed 1/2 of it. Yes there is THAT MUCH stuff to see in this store. Literally....... the produce area alone is an acre in size. There is a website if anyone is curious. When we drive down to see it we plan a full day there. Picked up all sorts of foreign foods and of course lots of hotsauce. The hotter the better for my family lol. And OMG I found jolly rancher soda pop! Haven't tried it yet though. It'll have to wait for earlier in the day, I'm betting it's loaded in sugar lol. Had a really nice time with the parents. It's been 3 months since we saw them so I had ton more hair to look at. Both of them kept rubbing their hands thru the curls. Dad kept saying "My curly girl is back". I wish they lived closer. *sigh*
They are changing out my meds this week. I was taking a antidepress for the hotflashes and it wasn't working. Gonna try a new one now. This time it's bipolar meds. Maybe I should just carry around a bucket of icewater to dip my head in instead. This sux royally.
<squishes> Jen :O)

For all of our travelers, may this not be you:
"Wherever you go, there you are.
Your luggage is another story."And there's more where that came from...(you're all on the edge of your seats, I know)
-
Off to play (work). Just wanted to say Good Morning and hope you all have a great day.
-
Good Morning Everyone!
Took new pics this weekend so as soon as dd gets them posted I will upload and try to get an avatar for Karin LOL.
Potluck was fun, small group Sunday night was fun but then I was DAT again!
Going for a yearly follow up with nreast surgeon this morning - hopefully non eventful- he just wants an appointment every year after the mammo.
Only 4 days to work this week- taking Thursday off to go to Arkansas to pick up college girl and bring her home for Spring Break!

Morning All!
Jen-I am about 3 hours from Cincy. Would love to get together. Lived up in Northern KY for a couple of years. (Youngest DD was born at Fort Thomas) Have several good friends up there, plus ex son-in-law and granddaughter. I hadn't heard about Jungle Jim's, but just mentioned it to DH and he started talking about the "port-a-potties" that are actually big luxurious restrooms, complete with TV. Sounds like fun.
Hot Flashes-I am actually having less since starting Tamoxifen, but then I haven't taken it a full month yet and I have probably just jinxed myself. The past week has been nice without them though. Bought a fan for the head of our bed and have only used it once.
Not much going on here today. Going grocery shopping later--such fun!

Good Morning Ladies,
Have returned home yesterday from a wonderfull albeit not so relaxing holiday. Had wonderful weather while there in the high 60's low 70's, and on the way home drove through snow on the mountain passes making the trek a little nerve racking.(for me anyways) Was hoping to come home to less snow but i think we have more.
Loved our time in Disney and the lineup gods were looking out for us as the lines weren't too bad. Sunday was the worst day and was crazy full with people, but stuck it out for the fireworks and a laser light show fantasmic, really cool. Did a couple side trips, one down to San Diego for sea world..nice change of pace and to Knotts Berry Farm. The kids were trying to talk us into Six Flags but hubby and I are not that adventerous with the monster coasters so settled on knotts .
Really enjoyed the hockey game...never been to a real live NHL game, fun to see what happens during the comercials. It was a good game but our team lost in overtime.
I had taken a book to read ....what was i thinking. Always seemed to be on the go, but it was a fun kinda busy! But am glad to be back...will try and get some pics up on facebook.
I have a lot of reading here to do to try and catch up....so for now will just say missed all you wonderful ladies and looking forward to getting back into the loop !
-
Angels-so glad that you had a great vacation! Can't wait to see the pics!
Randie-Hope that you are back home and feeling better. I think about you a lot!
-
Jen - I answered the phone just off the ski lift, slid it under my helmet and said hello a number of times but could not hear anything. What a bummer that I missed your call!
Angels - Welcome back from vacation, although busy, it sounds you had a fantastic time.
It was 65 degrees here today . . . I had to go out running. Most of the snow has melted away and spring is in the air! Speaking of running, Linda, did I miss a post where you told us about your half marathon?
Hugs to all!
Jean

Okay, here's the update.
Decided not to go and drain the lung...just didn;t feel like it...WTF...didn't feel like a good day.
Had a great visit this weekend....the only cousin that came without a gift or an attitude of somber mourning...lol...we had a gret visit and they will be coming back inj a few weeks...so all in all it worked out okey dokey and I got to keep all my smart ass comments to myself....
Rock: Loved the card...how cool was that a rock from rock...you so rock....
Jen: Woolsy is sitting here staring at me...lol..its even named after one of my Stargate characters...thanks again
Angels: where is the obligatory cartoon character photo the one you posted has no angels there??????
Gracie: I suggest Ben and Jerry for the hot flashes
Off to watch House.......luv ya, randie
-
Trying to catch up with all of you if you just take a few days off is nearly impossible. Geez, Louise. Randie, you can go to your own funeral if you live 91 days and God knows you're going to live 120 more years plus 91 days but you could be like Tom Sawyer...you never should have corrected your mom...you should have MILKED it. Glad your dad was in there with you. Love you.
Jen, I, too, get echos but not because I am a needle wimp (I am) but because they both do the same thing and the echo is less intrusive. I am assuming your heart is still ticking and we can continue our herceptin together. Like Noelle, I have lost count. I think of you all the time, Noelle, when I use your lotion which is all the time. What a good way to stay present in my mind.
LOVED THAT JOOBOO (Jewish Budda) quote.
But, getting back to herceptin, blah, blah, blah, my new thing is counting down femarra...two months down, 58 to go.
My lumperversary was last weekend...when I first found it. All my other cancerverseries coming up. Like many of you, I am of many minds on whether to spit, scream, celebrate, reflect, cry, etc.
Karin, you look GOOOOOOOOOOD. You are inspiring me to think about cutting my unruly hair, but not yet.
Gracie, Karli is on my mind. I am so sorry she is having to endure this. Thank goodness you are in her life.
Karin, loved what you did with our avatars. Makes me realize time to put a different one up.
Rock, I love your posts whether you think they are appropriate or not.
Mary, hope you are vacationing well.
Julie, Robin, Kristy, Linda, good to see your posts....I am so tired becase I just worked too many hours so I have to stop but I love hearing you all chatter...
BTW, am training my replacement because I get to return to my REAL job...the one I gave up a year ago to be interim director. Now, I get to go back to my real job, real work. It's about time.
Love you all so much. Am finally thinking it's time to lose weight seriously. Moving those workups up a bit. Now, I have to eat less.
Ciao.

still working on plans for Detroit on the 5thish.. should know tomorrow I hope.
Roberta from April may be passing through tomorrow, have not heard the final plan though.
Monavie party tonight, learned a lot.
Kristy, I still owe you an email about it.
RanD are you still drinking it?
Kerry, u mentioned the juice once too. You can get it from my monavie site, but shipped from Australia direct to you.
Had most of the day off, just worked a few hours.
Glad everyone seems ok this week.
I went into a thread byaccident on purpose from the girls just finishing chemo right now... and oh the memories .. I wish we could all take them by the hand and make them read weeks and weeks of what we wrote at the same time. Can we start a BC mentor program?
You know, like a college dorm buddy kinda deal...
Gotta go read my self to sleep now.

Eddie - Glad to see you, woman! Knew you would like the quote - it's so you. So is the luggage one. Hope works slows down a bit with your real job.
Angels - You're welcome for the weather! You picked a good time although it can be iffy - sometimes March is lion; this year, it's the lamb. Sounds like you all had an action-packed, fun time!
Randie - Sounds like a good decision - go when it's a good day.
-
Whoops! Watching "Dancing with the Stars" and hit submit too quick - don't ask me why I just didn't edit the first one.
We had an uneventful day off until I decided to not walk around the furniture and instead walk into it. My middle toe did NOT appreciate that. A couple of years ago I broke my big toe, same foot - it doesn't hurt quite that bad, but hurts enough. Girls knew enough to be quiet and still until I stopped talking through my teeth. Owweeee.
Then, Kelly decided to close the car door by herself (she's a big girl now, you know) and managed to smack her head with the door. Poor thing. I felt so bad because I couldn't stop it - happened too fast. She's got a bump, but she'll live.
Wishing everyone a good week!!
-
Noelle, almost done with bottle 1!!! It tastes great and I feel better...night all, randie
-
Glad everyone seems to be doing great. ranD hope today feels like a GREAT day for you. Julie I will be thinking and praying for you and your family tonight. Yesterday where I said I was off to play, WRONG. I actually had to work yesterday. They pulled me to substitute for a fourth grade class. I survived and it wasn't all that bad. Anyway, off to play (I hope), have a great day!
-
WooHoo - ordered my Deva products from Amazon, cheaper than I could get them here in town. They have been shipped. I'm looking forward to playing with my hair later this week when the package arrives.
Gotta get to Noelle's Mona Vie site for the next purchase of goodies.
Today I see my onco. Nothing wrong, it's a 3 month follow up visit. He'll ask how I'm doing on the Femara and I will give my list of complaints. Then I'll stay on it until I can't stand it anymore.
Meet a lovely lady at the clinic where I am a nurse, she was so sick with the nasty respiratory virus that is making its way around here. She is a breast cancer sister and we had a lovely conversation. It makes me feel good to be able to offer support and encouragement to others along the way. Turns out we have the same onco and both have appts. today - maybe I'll run into her there.
Blessings to each of you for a Terrific Tuesday and if it's not a good day the Grace to get through it.

Top of the Mornin' Ladies and Happy St. Patrick's Day!
Just put on the corned beef & cabbage--supper at my house!
Hope that you all have your green on so you don't get pinched!!!!
-
Happy St. Patrick's Day, you wonderful women o'May. Kiss me - I'm a breast cancer survivor!
Getting ready to go to uncle's funeral. Will probably be back on tomorrow or Thursday. Thanks again for the support and prayers. I really appreciate them.
