Sable - I am in the process of deciding which Deva products to start with.  Our cat sleeps on my pillow and I'll be curious if she messes with my hair when I use it.

Otter, Sable - when I had my 1st mammo post surgical in January there was a young radiology student observing.  The tech was being very kind, as discreet as possible.  I said I think you need to see what your patients have dealt with and opened my gown.  The tech pointed out the scars from the port, mastectomy and reduction on my right breast.  The student spoke not a word.

Roxi - Have a wonderful vaca!  Recon this summer?  I looking toward early fall for mine but currently don't have time for all the extra appts.

ranD - It was good to hear your trip for the xray ended up uneventful.  I'm a chocolate lover also!

    Every one else - Hi!

This evening I work 6 hours at the nurse advise center for my hospital.  It's a nice break from the hectic pace at my regular job (Urgent Care).  Finally this morning I began the tedious process of sorting through 3 bags of stuff for tax purposes.  There were a lot of copays for so many things relating to me but I don't think it will total up to enough to make a tax difference for us. This weekend I think I'll do our college aged daughter's taxes on Turbo Tax.  Ours - think the account can deal with that.

    Gracie - how's your grandaughter?

    Love to all...

Roxi- Have fun on vacation! I had herceptin this morning too- got nurse Evelyn, very kind and quiet, she got the IV on the firts try!

The Deva condition is my fave so far- it should sell as aromatherapy in addition to hair- the smell is so soothing and calming!

Its raining here= they cancelled dd softball tournament and I have 4 boys playing video games in my living room! I wonder what they want to eat tonight? Maybe spaghetti- I dont do soda so they are scrambling to find drinks in the kitchen (can anyone say water?)

I love chocolate- trying to move to dark chocolate so it counts as an antioxidant!

Karin new pics please- Im going to watch the Deva videos and need some real life modelling!

Love the hair - you look fabuloso!!!

(But wait - I have the exact same hair - why do I like yours better??)

Before I forget, again: Jen, I got your postcard (last week? maybe even the week before? I'm losing track), and loved it.  I was born and raised in the Buckeye State, so it was especially cool.

Kerry, you and I can be the UTI twins.  I raise my glass of unsweetened cranberry juice to you.

Saw the oncologist yesterday (postponed from last week because of work craziness), and got a clean bill of health.  Mammogram was normal (though the radiologist noted that my breast is heterogeneously dense - 51-75% fibroglandular - does anyone know how dense is dense?  is that, like, a brick wall of breast, or is it just moderately dense? I'm trying to figure out if I should agitate for an MRI every few years, or stick with mammograms and let menopause address the whole density issue).

Speaking of menopause, the hormone levels in my blood indicate that I'm there.

My surgery was one year ago today.  I was thinking about it earlier in the week, then forgot all about it - until I came here and saw the anniversary discussion.  I didn't do anything to mark the occasion.  (Unless refilling my tamoxifen prescription counts.)

    Karin,

So good to see your smiling face.  Wish I got curls ;O(....mine is straight.  Really, really straight.  But it is thick.  And grey.  Oh, well.

I have been so d.a.t., reading but not posting during the week now.  I am retiring in 19 days (!!!) and the round of luncheons and beers after work has begun....the days are full and the nights are too short.  My point is, I will agaain be posting here most days once I retire.  Don't forget about me, okay?

The one year ago stuff: yeah.  Here's my theory. One year ago we all put our heads down and put one foot in front of the other and did what we had to do.  Maybe we didn't process our emotions at that time, enough or at all. (I know I didn't).  So now, every time a "one year ago today" comes up for me, I am feeling those emotions that I didn't process.  Just trying to respect those emotions, feel them, and let them go.  Talking about it helps.  Love you guys.

Retirement date is April Fools' Day (I couldn't resist), and prophy mast with bilateral DIEP recon is April 15th.  I am thinking about it all, a lot.  Have waited what feels like my whole life to be paid to stay home, and a lot of people are asking me what comes next....what are you going to do after you retire? My answer has always been "Whatever I want to" but I know I will be doing some volunteering involving older people, and women having babies.  Maybe holding the preemies...I don't know, but something to give back.  I have always  been so blessed.

Hope everyone has a great weekend,  Sorry for the ramble.

    Love,

    Sue

Ramble??? Ramble??? Sue, that was like going to Mass for me. My heart lifted right out of my chest. I am so happy you are retiring...it almost feels like I'M retiring. Good on you for going the distance. Yes sir! Paid to stay home. Oh yeah!!      It's stormy here today and my family loves a storm. It's coolish-mild, black as hell. Thunder and lightning. All the Old Testament wrathful God stuff. And today is......Relay for Life day here in Launceston...the big 24 hr cancer-walk thingy. Hub has just taken the 15yo to it, with a tent to set up. As I type, I believe they have exactly 9 minutes till the fury is unleashed! Fibber is on the couch, the kitten is in the dog-kennel and my 15lb Christina the Astonishing is on my bed. Yep..they love a storm tooLaughingDrew shovelled soil and manure into two of our new veggie-plots this morning, even finishing off as the storm broke. How cool...wet, warm dirt tomorrow to plant the silver-beet, beetroot and beans. I am blessed too! Karin, your hair looks way cool, as does your gorgeous smile! Did any of us REALLY have cancer? We look too bloody happy! Roxi, I'm getting teary thinking about you on vacation. It's just wonderful. Have a most excellent adventure..what's all this talk about hoodies? I just bought two...sigh...(need them for my curly-crew)....XXXX

One more herceptin down- only 2 to go! Got a nice quiet nurse, Evelyn, today. She asked me where I wanted the IV put in and I told her- You have the needle, you pick a place you think you can take your time and get it the first time and that is where I want it- she laughed AND got it the first try!!!!!!

Karin- the hair looks great- wish I had that color instead of my salt and pepper with too much salt.

Linda -- my breast were described as heterogeneously dense too. I asked my Breast Surgeon what that meant and she said there were several terms they use and heterogeneously dense was the least dense of the dense one. (did that make any sense? anyway, there are several more dense classifications -- she said that this was the first level of dense). And she thought mine looked less dense (and therefore easier to read) than the previous mammogram, probably due to chemopause and tamoxifen.

Ran, you are appalling. Actually, you are showing some amazing initiative! Where did being nice, hard-working and scrupulously honest ever get any of us?? Have these cousins got anything worth having?? Pity has its opportunities....ROFL!  Well it's bucketing rain here and the Relay for Life was called off..all that lightning! I guess there was a BIT of a risk of lightning strike with all these people walking around a big open space in a thunderstorm...Drew is relieved, as is James, the 12yo. James is in Scouts, and he was going to go at 9.15pm with the Scouts to pick up rubbish. He's now on his laptop, snuggled up in his minkie, listening to the rain on the roof. What would he prefer...?..hmmmm. XXX

Am having trouble posting.  So this is not only prolly inappropriate, but it's formatted badly as well.

Roxi -- Have a LUVERLY vacation!!!! I hope it is everything you could hope for in a vaca.
Randie: "The brave death look..." This just made me realize something -- this is such a great opportunity! You can pretty much say whatever in the hell that you want and people cannot call you on it!!!! You can say completely cracked out sh*t like "It's like I always said, 'The carrot that milks the banjo, will never climb the tree..." or "I sometimes wonder what would have happened if I HAD married that rodeo clown..." and people have to roll with it. SEIZE THE OPPORTUNITY, my sister, and REPORT BACK.
    =================================================
Okay, I apologize if I offended anyone. But I have just found out that my best friend from grad school, the woman who I lived with along with her daughter from the time her daughter was one to when she was almost five... has breast cancer. Caught early (rads, but no chemo).  Here's an excerpt from her note which gives you a sense of her personality and why I love her so very, very much:

"What did strike me is how much healthier your response was than the ones I'm having. Shit, you just go ahead and quit smoking and start exercising and I'm in the knee-jerk, "fuck you. I'm going out with a Camel in one hand, a glass of gnarly red wine in the other, and a joint between my toes.  When it became clear that the cancer I got is pretty much never going to be life-threatening, it was almost a let-down to realize that I'd be forced to make some choices a bit tougher than how to make a dramatic exit. I've yet to opt for the healthy life-style choice. Perhaps that will come later."

She doesn't give herself enough credit, mind you. She smokes and enjoys her wine, but she has also been a vegetarian and eaten organic her whole life, has stayed in shape, etc. Cancer doesn't play fair.

RanD you absolutely crack me up - my brother in law and his wife came down last June- after 3 chemos I think- and I think it was their farewell trip- oh and they brought me some newspaper ad for a miracle cure- said to me and dh- this will help you feel better- dh responded- well when we start feeling bad we'll think about it but so far Kristy and I both feel fine! This is the same brother in law who flosses his teeth AT the dining table and just about everything else - I describe him as the only human who can repeatedly P*** me off in under 5 minutes.

Great book called- I'd rather do chemo than clean out the garage - written by a cancer survivor and is absolutely funny- I used to take it to chemo sessions and recently passed it on to the wife of a coworker battling non Hodgins lymphoma- but it fits Rocks idea- how to use your dx to your advantage and say what you want!

Rock Sorry on the BRCA in the family but I hope at least appeoach it with the Knowledge is Power plan.

My cousin was dx 15 years ago in her early 40s- her mom has also had BC, and my Mom and me. They offerred to test her for free- oh she also has a daughter in her 30s and two little grand daughters- she wont even have the test!

There is a Wellness Expo in town today- the onc from Italy who does peroxide treatments to tumors is going to be there (cancer is a fungus guy), along with the Know the Cause guy and a host of local farmers etc.Im thinking of attending manily for the farmers and wellness stuff- worried that I might get mad if someone there comes down on me for choosing traditional chemo, rads and surgery - maybe retail therapy instead!

Gotta cook today- tomorrow is our potluck day at church!

Rock- how long are you in SA?

Karin-I love the hair!  Mine isn't long enough yet to know if it is going to be straight or curly.

Randie-You brighten my day!  I can picture you sitting there, with your cousins, snickering secretly!

Kristy-I had a guy talk to me one day about the Italian onc.  Told me that this doc could cure breast cancer in one week, then went on to lecture about fungus and what I should be taking to cleanse my body.  He really got on my nerves (I did not know this guy-son-in-law bought an aquarium from him and we were helping him move it), DH said later that he thought there for awhile I was going to Gibb slap the guy.

I have a BIL like yours, about 30 seconds around him is enough for me!

Rock--BRCA sucks!  When I went to the surgeon to talk about the PBM, he asked if I had the genetic testing and I told him that I was negative for 1 & 2, but with my strong family history, the jury was still out on 3 & 4.  Research just hasn't found it yet!

Raining here today-snow is all gone.  But at least it isn't cold.  Waiting on big check from insurance co. Think I may go get a new coffee maker, after I pay a bunch of bills!

Everything has quieted down here for now.  DD says that Karli is fine and handling everything well.  I want to thank all of you for your support--you are the greatest bunch of sisters a girl could have!

    Love & Hugs to all!

Last year, BC, while our kids were both out of the house for a number of months DH and I rehabed (sp) the kitchen, powder room, mudroom and DD bathroom.  Now it's March 2009, AC, and we are planning the same fate for three rooms in the finished basement.  Today we go to Home Depot to check out paint colors.  All my life I have been so safe, so colorless, Origami White on all the walls. BC with the 1st rehab effort we cautiously added color one room at a time. The further we got, the bolder the color!  Yay ME! Now AC, caution out the window - it's my (our) house, I'll paint the colors I want.  So the downstairs bath gets it first and the decor is scarlet and gray for the OSU Buckeyes!  GO BUCKS!

Karin - Love the pic. Thanks for putting it up.

Sue - Happy retirement.  Who is doing your DIEP? My PS doesn't do that procedure but I want to find someone in CO that does.  Enjoyed your ramble.

Rock - your friend sounds REAL. Too bad she found her way into the sisterhood of breast cancer. Not glad for the BRCA results in your family but glad they are being tested.  My family is dragging their feet even though mom, oldest sis and myself have one remaining breast.

Rand- here's to a fun BBQ.  I'm looking forward to your summary of comments

Gracie - thanks for the update

Kerry - the rain sounds so refreshing.  It is sooooo dry here in Colorado, high fire danger.  March is supposed to be our snowyest month. Thus far we've had 2 dustings, just enough to make the roads icy for morning commutes.

Kristy - glad you treatment went well

Hello to all and wishes for a good weekend.

Robin~ My son wants BOLD colors in his room when we go to paint it. One wall red, one yellow, one orange and one blue...... strange child LOL

Gracie~ how far to you live from cincinnati? Maybe we should meet one weekend this summer at jungle jim's!?!?!

Kristy~ If somebody flossed their teeth at my dinner table there would be some serious smack down happening! Things like flossing and blowing your nose (unless you are very very sick) are to be done in the bathroom in my house. The last festival we went to had some of those wellness booths at it. One was selling a drink mix especially for breast cancer patients...... made out of soy! I tried to tell her she had better be very careful who she pushes that stuff on cause she could cause some serious damage... I got the response "but scientists made it and they know what they are doing". Told my onc and he was livid over it. Live and learn.

Rock~ I'm liking your friend, my type of people LOL. Is there anyway you can take a pic of your power box and post it? I've been trying to find one online to see what it is and can't find anything. Ya I know... I'm a tad weird.

RanD~ I'm shocked at your mother, is she always like that or is it the stress of what is going on? I think I'd have a bit of fun with it too like rock said. 30 days or 30 years I'm having fun along the way no matter what.

Kerry/revkat~ I'm dense in the head does that count?? LOL

Linda~ what part of ohio are you from? Most of my childhood is in the athens area, my dad's family is all from there. We did some moving around with the military, then back to athens and moved to beaver in my late teens (between jackson and chillicothe) and then got married and hubs and I moved to Dayton. Athens will always be home for me.

Karin~ you look stunning! That cut really really looks good on you! My poor hair is STILL standing straight up in the front. I detected a slight leaning the other day but that is it. I can brush my hands backward thru it when its wet and it makes me look like the heat miser. (from cmas show). Mine is still so wild right now. And the cat keeps running her nose thru it doesn't help much.

Sue~ YAY 18 days to go. You got any plans on what you are going to do with your time yet?

Slept in late this morning, really late <blush>. Trying to decide if we want to go do anything. It'll get here when it gets here LOL. <squishes!>

Linda - Apparently, I have dense breast also, but never heard the term "hetergenously" - does that mean there's a homogenous version??  I do remember that during my core needle biopsy, the radiologist had difficulty getting enough tissue samples from the tumor because it was hard to get through the breast tissue into the tumor - thus, the excisional biopsy a week later!  My rad onc set up the MRI I think because of the "denseness" and because the original mammo never did pick up the tumor, even though we knew exactly where it was.

Randie - You are too much, but in a good way!  I can't wait to hear those conversations!!

Karin - Great pic and great hair!!

Sue - My shovel girlfriend, good to see you and glad you are getting closer to retirement.  Love the April 1st date!!

Rock - Sorry about your friend; love her attitude.  I think I might have mentioned that I recently had another aunt diagnosed.  She's had surgery but is still deciding about treatment issues.  She also has a really good sense of humor about it.

Kerry - I love thunderstorms, too!  We don't get them often here, so my little ones actually are not thrilled with them.  We do need more rain, too.

Robin - I think the color thing is catching.  We have a couple of rooms that are not white, but I'd love to have more color all over - girls and I were looking at paint options the other day at the hardware store!

I didn't take notes this morning, so if I missed you - HI!!

    Happy Saturday!!

KRISTY - you need to put up an avatar.  Love you description on your brother in-law. I've got a lot of salt too. It's mostly in the back and that's a good thing because I can't see it.

Picture_327a You are forever increasing my vocabulary, thank you. Yet another word I had to look up. Prolly, a short form of the word probably, was created in an attempt to save time and effort in either typing the word probably or even speaking the word. Prolly has caught on easily especially within the internet.

Img_2876 As for my gorgeous smile, you should see it without the dentures, OFLMAO. And just think, on the day we all get together you will. Only my family has seen it. Only feel comfortable enough with family to remove the darn things and you are all family.

Avatar2 How could we forget about you? I look for you every time I come on. Hurry up April 1st.

12_21_smile_2 Then you know that means you look fabuloso!!! Wait what word tops fabuloso? What ever it is that's how you look because you don't have the wrinkles accompanying your look.

Robin_eggs Did you decide which Deva products to start out with? Remember Noelle recommended to me No-Poo, One Condition, Angell and Set It Free. I just love their marketing for the No-Poo. For those that don't know they break down not using shampoo like this. We all know what sham means, right? And you know what poo is.

Transfered_photos_039 Love the quote "Be here now.  Be someplace else later.  Is that so complicated?"  Helps one to remember to live in the moment.

Snapshot_20090306_3 Try to behave and don't go too heavy on the sighing when they come, LOL. And while playing along with their doomsday thoughts you might want to wear a Depends incase your laughing in your mind causes a leakage.

Jan_09_008 Hope you get to meet up with Roberta. Oh and thanks for the new look. It was your discussion and guidance that gave me the courage to move forward with the trim.

662px-lutracanadensis_cropped-title Didn't you know that words aren't always necessary? Just being there can say more then words. This thread has amazing powers; you can actually feel the cyber hugs that go out here.

GRACIE - you have to put an avatar up. Hope your pain from Karli's ordeal has lightened up. I pray for her everyday (you too).

Pict0362 I know you prolly (thanks rock) won't see this but hope you are enjoying your vacation. Have FUN, FUN, FUN!

2-6 Thanks for telling me about your cat and Deva. I'll make sure I don't sit on sofa when mine is sitting there. My cat likes to chew on the hair. Don't want to give him a reason to chew on what little I have.

100_5475 The Deva cut is just a cutting technique where they cut the hair dry working curl by curl. And yes it worked on my chemo curls. I posted the picture for you.

Hair_18_weeks_-_4And Photo_74 Bet you are both still on a high from your meeting. Thanks again for sharing the pics and bringing us there with you.

Scan0001 Hope your enjoying where ever it is you went (I forgot). See you soon.

Jan_09_1 Did you ever figure out where your FB pictures went or was it just a temporary problem with your connection to FB? I know both Otter and I still saw them.

OK, got it posted and it didn't get lost in cyber space. Been working on it for a while so would have been really irritated if it got lost. Irritated, haven't used that word for a while. Rock's blog or FB brought it back to mind. Since chemo I use a lot more INTERJECTIONS then before and now usually use the full term for PO. Anyway forgot to mention in the first post, ENJOY the weekend!

Sitting here with my bagel and cream cheese and my morning carrot, celery, apple, orange grapefruit and mona vie juice and just spit it out everywhere...thanks so much rock.....love the carrot remark...will put it on my fb page as my quote

Sorry about your friend, seriously, how many healthy women have died from this disease.  Nothing pisses me off more then people assuming that i had a bad lifestyle to start with. Whenever they hear I have lung mets, they assume I was a smoker.....makes me want to smoke!!!!!

Kristy: Flossing?????? If the kids aren't around, why don't you pretend to whip out a tampon and do a change at the table......take plenty of pics for us!  wellness expo, hmmmmm...I did the ionic footbath thing last week at this hoistic clinic.  It was pretty gross, the water turned all brown and had little floaters.  But, i did feel better later.  Maybe you can find some of that tea I am drinkng and try a sample.  Then you can be part of the sisterhood of the drinking dirt tea.

Gracie: Don't you just love big checks?  I can't wait for my SS to kick in, they just sent me all the paperwork (3 times becuz r govt is soooo efficient) and are supposed to call me on March 30th at 10:36 am....lol...should I wait patiently and for how long???? Hugs to your family and you.

Robin: I did that 4 years ago and am proud to say that there is not a single white wall anywhere in my house.  My kitchen is a persimmon color, but I want a new look...not sure, am thinking someething tropical, like turquoise, dh has to go along, I play the cancer card....lol

sable: sleep as late as you want to.....<<<wink wink>>>>>

Kerry: This set of cousins is aright...when she was younger, we would play pranks on strangers, if they looked our way, she would yell, take a picture, it lasts longer...so she was the sassy one, her hubby is a cop and his fav prank is to hide an over-ripe banana behind his back, pass gas loudly and then squeeze the banana and have it plop on the floor....so not sure how much pity will work here...

Karin: wayyyyyy to clever!!!  Our tech guru!!!

    will update later..randie

Snapshot_20090306_3  Take a picture it lasts longer; boy does that bring back memories. Back in the day my husband and I used to get stares all the time. I took a picture of us and photo copied many on the copier at work. When we would get the stare I politely gave them a picture saying "Here you might like this it lasts longer"

    Afternoon awesome women of May,

Sounds like we are all having a good weekend and some are having a good time at the expense of the relatives (RanD you know who you are).  We definitely need a summary.

We got some bad news this morning and I need some happy thoughts/prayers from all of you.  My mom's sister's husband passed away in his sleep last night.  She is my aunt who had bc 8 years ago.  It is just such a shock.  He had a huge stroke about 20 years ago and recovered relatively well and has had two kinds of cancer since.  Such a peaceful way to go.  My parents are on the way to my grandpa's to tell him.  My grandma died a year ago on March 1.  Sorry - some dates just don't go away.  We are on spring break this week so will be able to do anything necessary, but this is sad.  They have 3 kids and 6 granddaughters.

I'll come back later for more.  Rock - thinking about your friend, too.

Karin - couldn't wait until later - love the picture - you look mahvelus!

Thanks! So you can better understand why I love the new look, maybe I should take a picture of my untouched hair after a shower. It feels so good to have control over the curls. Speaking of my hair cut guess what I got in the mail today. My stylist sent me a Thank you card. She wanted to thank me for coming in and supporting her business. In case you missed it she is the one that gave me the wig and did my face makeover on the ABC BC special back in Oct. At that time she had given me her card. On it says "Curly Hair & Hair-Loss Specialist". Who else better to trust (when you don't know of anyone else)? The trauma of loosing hair was bad enough; I didn't want to traumatize myself by getting a bad hair cut on already short hair. Anyway (besides the trust) my going to her was also a way of thanking her for what she did back in Oct. by utilizing her service. This thank you thing might go on forever. I just sent her a thank you for the great cut and new look.

Edited to say: Julie please forgive me. I forgot to mention you and your family are now added to my prayer list. I got sided tracked and forgot the main reason for wanting to reply back to you.

I got to put another face to a voice. ranD called me today. I know we are real but it makes it so much more real then looking at a screen reading words. Hope the rain holds up so you can enjoy a nice Barbecue.

Thanks, everyone.  My parents got to my grandpa's and he is okay.  They will all go to my aunt's tomorrow.  Two other sisters will be en route so she will be surrounded by family.  Turns out, my uncle's birthday would have been Monday.  Makes it even more sad.  They had gone out to dinner last night for his birthday.

Oh Julie - My sincerest sympathies to you and your family. Where does your aunt live?

Karin - way to go with that post.  So tech savvy.

DH and I made a few color selections, not as bold as it would like but there is one more room and it's going to make a statement.

It's been a delightful day but haven't done much of anything (except the home depot trip and lunch with DH).

    Better go feed the dogs.
