A product I love for keeping my pores clean, which makes them appear smaller, is Steep Clean from Bliss, which I buy at Sephora or order from blissworld.com. I've used it loyally for about three years. Its an exfoliating, but not drying, facial mask which you leave on for 15 minutes. When my skin was dry and flaky during chemo, and gray looking, I asked the nurse if I dared use it, and she said to try a small patch first. There was no irritation so I used in on my whole face and it made my skin look clearer and brighter. I've used it once a week since, followed by moisturizer. My daughter (18) has very sensitive skin and she uses this with no problems. I really clears up the clogged pores if that is an issue for you, and I think it made my skin look much better in the last months of chemo. I also found that using a little bit of Laura Mercier Illuminating Tinted Moisturizer on my cheekbones after I put on foundation, or mixing a drop or two into my foundation, improved the look of my skin a great deal.

Thanks all- I'll give up the Band-Aids on my toes unless its a situation where I really need them, and thanks for thinking about sun protection fon my nail beds, I probably would have missed that one.
-
Hey! You could cover your nail beds with those cute little umbrellas they use in over-priced drinks!
When I wear eyeliner I look like a hooker..........sigh. My kids do it great and I just can't do it!
-
Do spray tanners also self-tan? Or are they separate products?
Every self-tanner I have ever bought stinks, some more than others. Even that Clarins. Some of them mask the smell with perfume but after a few hours, when the scent wears off, the stink begins.
How long does the spray-on tan last? Longer if you go to a spa to have it done rather than done yourself?
I was just looking at some pics of me taken over the past couple of years, from just after chemo, and cannot believe how my hair has changed. It was so curly, mop-top. Now, I have waves with the remnants of curl at the ends. I've had it cut many times. Now I don't know what to do with it at all.

hi all, having Really dry skin with some of meds and it appears this maybe long term situation. Any good basic moisture cream anyone especially likes? looking for unscented, something that will soak in quickly rather than sit on top of skin and stick to clothes. I don't think I can drink any more fluids, don't take very hot or long showers or baths, any other suggestions are welcome.
Thanks, off to find back scratcher

Love your new avatar, Tina. What do you mean by you don't know what to do with your hair? Didn't you just have something done? Love the color BTW and I can see from the little bit of your face that I can see, you truly do not have wrinkles.
Elaine, are we talking cream for the face or the bod? A good body cream that comes in a non-scented version is Curel continuous comfort. I love it. Your skin will feel soft until your next shower/bath.
-
Thanks Raye, I need both, although I suppose I can use the Curel on face as well.
-
For a good all'round drink of moisture for the face that will soak right in and not be sticky (for daytime), I don't think you can beat Clinique's Dramatically Different moisturizer. I've got to use the thick goo for night time, but as long as I do, I often can get away with something this light for day. For the body, I always use (for 30 years!) Neutrogena Body Oil as soon as I get out of the tub - still damp. Then I follow up with original formula Keri lotion, head to toe. That may be too slick for you, but my very dry skin needs it.

Raye, I've been coping with it but just following its lead. I need a more glamORous look, accent on the OR. (My auntie used to say it that way and I love my auntie.) Re the hair: it seems too big for me but I don't like it short, either. LOL I am never happy. I've actually been thinking of some sort of perm to make it curly again but I can't to perm plus color, can I? I don't want straw for hair.
For both facial and body moisturizers, I can recommend the Aubreys Organics line.
-
Tina - I understand your dilemma. Although I do like big hair and mine can be big, I want mine to have some style and since the curl has mostly gone, I've contemplated a perm as well. For about 10 minutes. Don't do it. LOL. Too damaging.
I've been using a big barrelled curling iron on my hair to calm it down somewhat - can you give that a shot? I use John Frieda defrizzing serum, blow dry and then curl with big iron. Here are a couple of recent photos of hair (smiling and snarling)- I am contemplating getting my bangs trimmed.

-
Raye you have GREAT hair! I am so envious! Do you do all that to it every day?
-
Raye you are so gorgeous... You look like this actress.. omg brain fart I can't think of her name, from Charlie's angels....
-
Jackson? someone?
-
Kate!?
-
ha. Thanks Girls.
No, I don't do my hair every day, as I don't wash it every day, but every 2 -3 days.
Girls - People used to say that I looked like Jacklyn Smith. ha.RIGHT. Quite the compliment. Remember she had that Kmart clothing line? A girlfriend of mine cut a picture of her from one of her pantyhose packs and rounded the edges and put it in her wallet and showed everyone at work. They actually thought it was me. Maybe they had been smoking some ganga.

Women with gorgeous, large, wide-set eyes should be not be allowed out in public.

-
Thats who I was thinking of... Jaclyn Smith!!!!
You really do look fantastic.
-
Never mind the resemblance to Jaclyn Smith. Yes, I saw that right away but our Raye could REALLY play the part of Snow White at Disney World, don't you think? THAT's my idea of lovely fantasy. She would be perfect. Can't you just see Grumpy's ears turning pink from a kiss on the head from Raye???
-
Hey, MY ears would turn pink if Snow White/Raye kissed me too!
-
oh you guys, I am embarrassed today that I said yesterday people told me I look liked JS. Sorry.
-
Kissy kiss B.
-
Thanks Raye! That made my day. -
Hi Ladies... I continue to read.... I am so bad with makeup and trying to be better at it to hide some of this. I never knew how I liked my eyelashes till now! I have been complimented my whole life and took it for granted. This disease does teach you many, many lessons. I will appreicate them once they return FOR SURE. I am getting my implants done in April and had my last fill yeterday. I am so uncomfortable but can't wait to get that behind me. But I was at the PS office this week and they gave me a prescription for LATISSE which is suppose to help your eyelashes grow. I am using it faithfully. How long does it take for lashes to come in. I finished chemo 8 weeks ago. I think I have little tiny short ones........ ugh! Raye, your hair is beautiful!! How long did it take for your hair to come in???? Mine was fine before. I am curious how it iwill come in. It is coming in .... very soft and not very much. Of course I have hair now where I could care less and am watching my head and lashes like a hawk... it is like watching paint dry. Not to mention my fingernails! I only have two toenails but I know that will take forever. My fingernails didn't come off but are all separated from the nail bed. I am praying they grow our quick.
-
Christl - congrats on getting your implants in April; how exciting.
My eyelashes seemed to take about 6 weeks to come in. Once you start seeing the black starts of the lashes, it does not take long after that. Once they get to a certain length, you can use mascara on them to lengthen them further. Hang in there, sweetie. My hair was very fine and thick before, but came in course and curly after chemo. Now the curls are almost gone, and the texture is back to being fine. I finished chemo in December of 06 - so it's been about 2 years, 2 months with a few trims here and there.
-
Raye, you look adorable! As usual. Beautiful hair! I think purple eyeliner would look great on you with your brown eyes.
Beth, you look wonderful in that eyeliner. I do a smokey gray sometimes, which works with blue eyes. (don't have pix)
Tina, or anybody, I gather Clarins products are wonderful in general. I really need a good facial moisturizer. How's theirs? I'll have to try their lip products now. Well, what I really need is a hormone therapy that keeps the estrogen away from my boobs but lets it go to my skin again. Wish somebody would come up with one of those!!
Territ, good luck with everything!
-
Isn't Glaxyl Base safe? I used 2 large tubes of that after surgery...
-
Kathi, I haven't used the Clarins moisturizers. Daffodil says she loves all Clarins, though. Maybe she'll pop in.
My own favorites are the Aubreys Organics. Rosa Mosqueta night potion which is quite greasy but doesn't leave my skin greasy for some reason. The Sea Buckthorn serum for around the eyes (makes orange circles so only use at night) followed by their Lumessence Eye stuff. It's as good as any eye product I've ever used. Right now their website is having a special of some of these products so you might want to check them out. I might try their Lumessence Lift Firming Renewal Cream to prop my old skin up!
For daytime in the summer I use the Sea Buckthorn lotion for day. It's totally non-greasy and actually gives a tad of a tint of bronze. (from the ingredients) I don't use it in the winter when I don't want any color on my face but it's great for summer. I've bee using the Olay Regenerist cream this winter and it is fine, no complaints.
I go off and try new products but always seem to come back to these. Prices are not bad at all.
Wouldn't it be nice if we could slather hormones on our faces and make them younger again? Well, that's not going to happen. Ah, well, next best thing is the cosmetics counter. LOL

Following up on the toenail polish thoughts:
I am definitely going to do a cherry-ish color. I know even this might make my toenails orange so does using a clear base coat avoid that? Is that why a professional job lasts longer and doesn't stain your nails?
Tried on some old sandals this morning now am hot to polish.
-
Go ahead and start with a clear coat before applying your cherry color, can't hurt. I am not one to really answer the question - I get one pedi per year and usually am reading a magazine the entire time, so I have no idea what they put on my toes except the final color. That cherry color sounds delicious BTW - Zoya?
I am so anxious for summer and warm weather- I am getting that bug to go tanning and need intervention ladies - talk me out of it.
-
Raye, don't you DARE ruin that beautiful cream skin! I will come down there and smack you up the side of your head!
On the other hand, because my daughter's wedding is in May and I am wearing strapless, I was wondering about going to a tan salon myself. Do they really work? heheheheehehe
