What a brilliant suggestion! Thanks!
-
Abba, I don't know! They were touting it as fabulous. Wonder if Sephora has it and you could get a sample?
-
Better yet, I hope to go to a Sephora sometime this week. I'll look for it.
Anything else I should try out while I'm there?
Have decided to do a few highlights (neutral blond, not warm) up top to help blend the gray. I will then use the demi-permanent color over it to keep it toned (and the gray covered). I added the color to my upcoming appt. for next Monday.
-
I recently read that purple eyeliner makes any color eyes pop---try it out for us!
-
Oh, purple eyeliner - I used to wear nothing but in high school. Loved it.
Tina - your baby blues would look gorgeous with purple eyeliner.
-
Where is that Marin when we need her. She is the resident waxing expert.
Someone else might be able to answer this. What is a regular bikini wax and how much into tender areas does it go? I think a Brazilian gets rid of everything, right?
Has anyone ever waxed their foob? My flap has hair. Egads. NOT romantic.
Does that EpiLady work for mustache hair or is it just as painful as waxing the upper lip?
Signed,
Hairy Canary
-
Brazilian is everything. How much is a bikini wax? I have no clue. I do my own stuff.
Hairy - I use Nair facial hair remover for my furry face and mustache - works great and does not hurt (well, it burns just a tiny tiny bit). I hear EpiLady is like an old world torture device.
-
Here I am! I'm so broke these days, and busy teaching aerobics to compensate, that I haven't been here in quite awhile. But when it comes to waxing, it's a favorite topic with me! However, I also do all of my own waxing, even the Brazilian, but I started it after I had laser hair removal, so it's never much to deal with. I think that the salons around my area (Raleigh/Durham/Cary in NC) charge about $25 for a bikini wax and $45 for a Brazilian. And yes, a true Brazilian is everything, but some women like to keep a "landing strip," so the spa might not charge the entire $45 if that's what you want. I'm still using Nair Salon Divine Microwavable Body Wax and still lovin' it! I only need to use it about every 3 weeks or so and can just pluck any tiny growth or strays in the meantime. Unfortunately, it seems to have disappeared from the store shelves (maybe because it's too good to be true and nothing can compete?), so I ordered by last tub from Amazon. I think that it would work great on your foob, Tina...just microwave, paint it on, wait a minute, and peel it off. It's really that simple!
In other news, I seem to have developed a few darkened areas on my face (sun spots, I'm assuming, even though I never tan my face, but I do go out in the boat w/o a hat or sunscreen
). So instead of trying one of the bajillion creams and serums for fading pigmented skin, I decided to try old fashioned lemon juice. I just started applying it daily, so I'll let you know if I achieve any miraculous results. Since receiving the People's Pharmacy for Christmas and trying Vick's Vaporub on a fingernail that has had fungus under it for nearly 20 years, with amazing results (it's just about gone!), I'm thinking that home remedies are worth a try!~Marin
-
Raye99 - how long are you fur-free with the Nair? I'm getting really tired of trying to pluck and cut that annoying fuzz.
Susan
-
If you have sensitive skin, I'd be careful using Nair any place that is tender.
A bikini wax will just get the sides- like where the panty line is. Brazillian gets your entire name and address, and usually costs about $50, where as the bikini wax is around $25.
The only thing keeping me from going tanning right now is my budget. I think I will try some of the spray tanners at home this week. Today was the first glimpse of nice weather, and it made me realize that my arms, and legs and ghastly...
-
Ah, so what you're saying is that a bikini wax gets the panty line and a Brazilian wax gets the party line!. Got it~
-
Barbe1958 - There may be a party in your pants, but there haven't been any celebrations in mine for quite awhile. Instead of celebrating, mine are celebating!

Ooooh, I was just dreamin'........sigh.
-
Reading Bazaar~~~~they recommended Benefit Erase Paste for undereye circles and redness.
If I spent more time using this stuff, insteading of reading about it......kind of like watching the de-clutter shows~~~over and over.
-
Susan - I use the Nair facial hair remover for sensitive skin (although my skin is not really sensitive, but I play it safe with this kind of stuff) and the results last maybe a month? I have to admit I am not always that diligent and sometimes look in the mirror at my profile and notice the growth around the sideburn area is back. One box is only about 6 bucks and will probably get you two - three treatments.
-
Daff, I know just what you mean about the constant re-inforcement. Maybe someday I will finally internalize the message and get on with it re: de-cluttering. I just bought a new chest for where you come into the house in hopes its drawers will catch the mail, etc.
The Sephora flyer came in yesterday's mail and there were several items there that might be of interest here, so here goes:
CONCEALER: Kat Von D has a tattoo concealer that is supposed to be good for stubborn undereye dark circles. Now, if it can cover tattoos, I suppose it can cover just about anything but I would try it first at a store before buying since you don't know if it would be too heavy and settle into fine lines. It costs $25 and comes in three shades.
There are whole makeup lines out there now for professional makeup for HD TV and you know how punishing THAT is! Go to www.sephora.com/go/hd for details.
My beloved Smashbox now has an "intuitive" bronzer, which means it turns your own, special shade. This might be something that could work for me. Most bronzers I've tried, even in stores, are too yellow for my skin and I just look like a tanned person with jaundice.
Of course, there was a bunch more tempting stuff but that'll be a start for you.
Marin, you come hang out with us again soon. We miss you! Not all beauty and make up hints involve $$$. Just check out the posts above on spit.
Oh, I shouldn't forget that if you want to really help take the itch of of insect bits using your own saliva, try rubbing in a little salt with it. I kid you not. My old grandmother taught me that. Talk about your old-fashioned home remedy.
So, I would have to wax every THREE WEEKS? Oh, this is sounding so painful. Actually, my biggest concern is that with my free flap TRAM surgery my pubic skin was pulled up a bit to meet my abd skin and now I have hair up to my scar! It looks awful so I've been shaving it but I don't esp. like that solution so am bracing myself for the waxing session. I wonder how much laser removal would cost? Anyone know?
Raye, you remove hair from your cheeks? I freely admit I have fuzz but it is very fine and light. I've never considered removing it. Just another thing to contemplate.
-
I just broke a finger nail!!! I have worked so long to get my nails looking decent (used to bite them) and started wearing polish regularly. the UPS driver was handing me a package he was delivering and somehow my pinkie fingernail got snagged and cracked about 1/8 inch below the nail bed. I have to wait until I get home to try and repair the broken nail with some clear fingernail polish and tissue paper. I will let you know how the repair works tomorrow.

Tina laser hair removal is an option, but its slightly painful, and can take 20 sessions or more. Not to get too personal... but when you shave, do you use an electric razor or a regular one?
If the waxing is unbearable, I will gladly tell you my tips for shaving down there in a private email. It's a little TMI for the world wide web.
Sheila- sorry about your nail. I stopped getting my silk wraps a few months ago, and I miss how great my nails used to look. I use Crystalgen strengthener, and I find it works pretty well.

LOL at the panty line vs party line..hahahaha

Hi all-
I usually skim the posts here along with the mojo threads and have seriously considered a Brazilian wax since shaving gives me a rash
but after finding this on Youtube I'm seriously reconsidering. Here it is.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kKRKo113xwAIf the above doesn't link, than you may need to copy and paste onto your browser.
Does anyone have any cheap and less painfull suggestions that don't give a rash
? -
Tina...The laser route is quite expensive. I paid somewhere between $1500-2000 for 6 sessions. They need to be 3 months apart to get each growth cycle, so it takes about 1 1/2 years. Also, it is rather painful, moreso than waxing (IMO). The kicker to it all, though, is that, after all that, I STILL need to wax in order to remain totally hair-free. Now the thing about waxing is that once you've done it a few times, the regrowth is light and soft and it hardly hurts at all. Frankly, I hardly notice it anymore, except when I pull the wax from certain areas like the crease of my leg or the very delicate labial folds. So I just take a deep breath and pull! I know it sounds awful but, for me, it's totally worth it! And if it's just on a flat surface like your belly, it will be a snap once you're used to it. Really.

Okay, here's all the old Tina you can stand. LOL See, I was actually born and grew up, didn't drop from a distant planet.
TinyTina at under 1 yr.
Notice the spit-curl up top. That's just the way my hair came back after chemo!
TinyTina around 2? or so
Tina ahead of her time mixing plaid and stripes.
Tina about 20
Tina about 28
Notice that at 28, in 1975, I wasn't using much makeup. A touch of blush over foundation (I think) and a bit of mascara. Ah, those were the days.
I'll take these down soon so you won't be blinded by too much Tina!!!
-
Tina, you are beautiful. You look live Olivia Newton-John in the last pic taken when you were 28.
-
Did you see Ugly Betty last night? Do you mean Olivia Newton-John or Olivia Newton-Bird???
Hey, everyone is beautiful when they are 28, don't you think? But, thanks, anyway. We all love to be stroked.
-
Tina,
You look gorgeous. A natural beauty!
I wanted to let you ladies know that I tried the Loreal pore minimizer. It works great! You put it on your cleansed face and then apply moisturizer where needed. I would give it a 4 out of 5. Affordable too.

Oooooo, Tina!!! You look loverly!
Waxing: I've been doing my own for a long time and LOVE it because I started out with really furry legs and now I have hardly any hair left on them. I now use Sally Hansen microwaveable home wax. It's a jar you pop in the microwave, slather on with a tongue depresser, smooth on the pull-off sheets, then zip-zip! Then baby oil after. Takes some practice, but over time, you get soooo smooth everywhere, it's wonderful.
BTW, my first, 6-month post-op/post-adventure mamm today was NEGATIVE and I found out because I asked the mammographer to ask the radiologist to tell me now, about anything. And he did. I took ibuprofen beforehand. Only one position was painful, but doable, and NO DO-OVERS were needed. YAY! Best thing that's happened all week. Hate this flipping disease. Love you all. I'm so relieved, I wanna cry.
