Had my hair cut/styled again yesterday and had a little bang cut at the same time.  Also had a tad of highlighting in a neutral blond shade done "up top."  It is called a "splash" and is subtle but noticeable.  Just a little something to break it up.  Looks pretty good now but I'm waiting to give a final verdict until after it's been washed a few times.  I am hoping it doesn't turn brassy.

I am happy to have some bangs again.

HeeHee Laura.  Who wouldn't love the kissing cow?  Reminded me of my (deceased) father-in-law with those smoochy, rubbery lips. LOL

How ya feelin', Kathi?  Back to the old you?

Went cosmetics shopping and came home with a bagful.  Thank goodness a friend of my dh's gave me a gift card for $100 to Macy's!

Tried the violet/purple eyeliner and it looked pretty good but then did my Marine Blue on the other eye and it looked much better so am sticking with that.

Also bought a light blu-ish pink lipliner and new pink lipstick to hopefully make me look loverly.  Also bought a new Clarins product for lip hydration.  The Clarins rep told me to hold onto the receipt and the box because it is Macy's policy that you can return cosmetics (and fragrances) within a reasonable time if you have the box and sales slip.  So, I thought I'd go for the $24.00 tube.  If it really works well, better than my Blistex, I'll keep it and be happy I found it.  If not, it goes back to the store.

I have that Clarins product in my arsenal and will open as soon as I finish the one I'm using now.

I think the old taupe/brown/ivory palette is not as becoming as lighter hues with a bit of glimmer on New Forty eyes!!! It does take a bit more thought.....so I will go experiment before going out (in cold rain) to art event downtown~~~where I and the catering staff will be the most up-to-date!Wink

Tina, I haven't felt like myself in so long, I forget what my self feels like.  Thanks for asking.  Love those gift cards.

    Product report.

Do you receive those DHC flyers in the mail with the samples of products?  I received a couple of them recently so decided to try some new stuff last night.

Scoop:  Used the moisturizer and eye moisturizer (Q10) and woke up looking parched.  Thumbs down for me.

Scoop:  Their Velvet Skin Coat is supposed to be like Smashbox's PhotoFinish.  Wrong.  VSC went on okay but more matte and as soon as you touch it, it flakes off.  I did one side of my face this morning with VSC and one with PF.  No comparison.  PF wins hands down.  Also, the VSC left my skin looking parched while the PF looked perfect.

I did use the new Clarins lip stuff and it goes on like a dream.  So far so good.  I'll wait a few days to issue my verdict.

Daff, I also bought the Clarins gel self-tanner but have not tried it yet.   Soon.  The saleswoman, though, said she floats to all the cosmetics counters and it is only at the Clarins that people keep coming back for the self-tanner products.  I consider that an endorsement.

I learned a HARD (and funny) lesson when I lost my eyebrows during Chemo. One day during a hot day, I patted sweat from my forehead - and wiped off one of my drawn-on eyebrows. I walked around looking surprised (or, as I thought - rather like Mr. Spock) with one eyebrow for the rest of the day. Since then, I make sure that I have a brow pencil in my purse.

Abba, Clarins tanning products are superb! They have the self-tanners in every strength and every application, spray-on, cream, gel, as well as regular sun lotions, including a line for babies.

all the surveys say their products also smell the best....or least!

Just thought I would thank you ladies for pointing out to me many months ago (when I posted a pic of my eyes) that I could use a bit of brow work.  I am happy to say that I have been religious about using my Anastasia to fill in little sparse spots and my brows, not to mention my old face, look so much better!

Thanks for the heads-up.  Isn't it nice to have long-distance, semi-anonymous advice?

Browsed at the library and picked up Carmindy's book as well as Allure Beauty Secrets by Linda Wells. I will let you know if I learn anything new! (I have learned that none of it works if you don't use it!!)

Well if you want to be picky Daff...so that explains why the cabinet of dusty lotions and powders hasn't done me much good :D

I wanted to try the new Oil of Olay mousse foundation. The bottle looks like foundation swirled with moisturizer. It comes in three colors, but it's $30 for a tiny tube!!!

    Has anyone tried it?

Oh Beth you want it because it's pretty! AND a mousse...must be good! That's really pricey for Oil of Olay, gettin' kind of big for their britches, eh?

You're half right... I AM drawn to it, because of the way the product is swirled in the bottle! But, I don't wear foundation on a regular basis, b/c it's too heavy on my face. I look too "done up." However, lately I've felt like my skin tone is becoming uneven (I really need summer to hurry up and get here so I can get some sun and have a natural face glow) so I figured since I love oil of olay face moisturizer, that maybe this product would work wonders for me.

I just don't know if I should go with the medium color or the darker color (it looked pretty light in the bottle) and for $30 a pop, I don't want to try the wrong thing.

I've never returned cosmetics to a store like CVS. Do they do that? or is it Rite Aid?

Yes, CVS Does accept returns.  One of the reasons I like to go there.  walmart will accept them, too.    If fact, I have returned to Walgreen's, too.

I still haven't had the nerve to return boo-boos. I just can't do it? What do they do? Throw it away...so do I? And then of course I still need a replacement...sigh. Are they bitchy? Give you a hard time? Call you an idiot?

I've returned cosmetics and toiletries to CVS on at least three occasions.  Never got any lip from the employees.

Once, I returned a body lotion because I hated the scent.  No problem.

I say "go for it" and I'm even a CVS shareholder.  LOL

Beth, I think you have hit on the major drawback to this product: there is a very limited range of color. I find that women's complexions do not fit into simply light, med, and dark! Most foundations are available in about a dozen colors, and even then it can be a challenge to get the right one. A close match is so important in a natural look - not like the make-up is changing your complexion, just enhancing it. For $30 I'd go to a dept. store and try some shades on for real.

Lisa, that's why I use Chanel makeup; they are the only ones I've found that have the right tone makeup for me.  Yes, it's about twice as expensive as drugstore brands, but a little bottle lasts me forever and I'd rather be the right color than frugal.

Report of the Clarins lip stuff:  It really and truly hydrates my lips much better than drugstore "sticks."  Gets right into the skin and softens.  All the ones I've used before soften on the surface but have that waxy feel that kind of sits there.  I am finding that using the deep penetrating stuff first, waiting a while, then using the waxy stuff on top is very effective.

Good "sticks" are the ones by Aveeno and that LipSyl.  My least favorite is ChapStick because it is too hard.
