Pain all over
I am 37 and had stage III IVD in 2006 treated with mastectomy, 6 rounds of ACT, 33 rounds of radiation and so far 2 years of Tamoxifan. In 12/2007 I had a bilateral TRAM. My question is this. Does anyone else have pain in the back & legs? Both legs hurt to the point that it feels like I've been beaten with a baseball bat. I've asked about my legs and they aren't worried about it because the pain is equal in both legs. They don't think it is the Tamox. I'm so tired of being sick, tired & hurting.

Tamox should not be giving you pain. I would bring this up with your onc and ask for scans to be on the safe side......

Muscle cramps in the calves and heaviness were common side effects for me on Tamoxifen. Because of the cramps, my sleep was interrupted at night, and fluid retention contributed to my leg discomfort. I tried to make sure I had proper doses of calcium and magnesium (about 1200 mg Calcium, 500 mg Magnesium) and nowadays, I would add Vit D3 (1000). Sometimes the pain caused my feet to curls, I kid you not, but my oncologist didn't really trust me on that one. Some women find a little tonic water help relieve calf muscle cramps, but don't over do it.
In general, if pain persists without improvement with simple measures (posture, heat, mild analgesics, proper calcium/diet) further evaluation is in order.
I understand how this can cause anxiety, and hope your oncologist might address the pain and its management with you so you get some relief.
Best,
Tender

I had terrible leg pains and cramps while on tamoxifen. Doc said not likely the tamox, probably left over se's from taxotere. However, when I switched over to Arimidex, the legs greatly improved. I hardly ever have to jump out of bed anymore. I know what you mean about the 'toes curling'. My gp dx shin splints. Still have to be careful but even they are much better now.

I have had the same issues for just about a year now, first with the neulasta shot. Then on Abraxane and herceptin, I was diagnoised with mild neuropthy but the funny thing is its in my lower back and hips, legs both sides. I have come to the conclusion its the Herceptin. Since I have been to every specialist, and scans available I am NED which I am truly greatful for but the pain has caused me to give up work and live on pain meds. Its really not a good QOL right now. I am also on Tamoxifen which I started in October so I can't help you with those SE of yet. I sure hope its the Herceptin I have 6 more weekly ones left. I just feel diffrent woman respond diffrently to meds I had a problem with it all and I consider myself a tough cookie but this is crazy!!!
Good-luck to you!!!!

After I was finished with chemo, I was barely able to walk. no joke. onc was worried it was a problem. I was given a bone MRI - no mets. Took Glucosamine Sulfate by Vital Nutrients - 750mg - was 100% fine in 1 day. pretty amazing actually. My nutrionist said we can get inflammation from the chemo. Anyways, I take that regularly now and have been fine (walking wise).
Hope this helps,
Kim

I forgot to mention that the Glucosmaine contains crustacean fish (lobster, crab or shrimp) and some people can't take Glucosamine due to an existing allergy for these foods. Something to check out, if needed.
