She is having a good day. She had a plain pancake for breakfast, 2 Boosts, water, sprite, a few pretzels with p-nut butter (not the salmonella kind LOL) and tonight she ate a few greenbeans and some chicken casserole. Most she has been able to eat in 2 weeks! Yippeee

Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How wonderful!
-
This is just so wonderful, to know that Olivia is home and getting well....
I'd concur with everyone else, finish up the tests, but it could honestly be also a self perpetuating thing. Does it only happen with motion? If so, maybe it is that she is afraid of feeling sick, so becomes sick, etc. Here's hoping that's all it is.
One thing you could try if dr. OKs it? An acupressure wrist band? No medication, only beads I think, so benign to try, and if she thinks she is OK, or has the "magic" band on, well, it might help? At least to her state of mind, anyway.
Praying for the healing to continue and for Olivia to pop back to her old self ASAP. Sending love for mom and dad too!
xoxo

Fantastic to come in and read of further progress.
All I can add is that we are our own best advocates -- when it comes to our health. (A lesson we've had practise learning from the BC, right?)
Keep your mother's instints on HIGH alert until all is completely & totally resolved. Badger the medical world until your mother's heart can sleep easily.
Prayers for continued answers.

annie thanks for the idea of the bracelet, I may just give it a try. It has never been her personality to "create" illiness in her mind for fear of having to go to the doctor, BUT now it is difficult to tell if the motion thing is real or just fear of the possibility....I do think it is a high probability that it is related more to fear right now rather than reality.......guess I'll keep working on trying to figure that one out.. LOL

Karen,
Our family is so glad Olivia is doing much better. We prayed together as we were all gathered around the pc at times to check on posts to see if she was improving. Olivia's illness was so personal for us because we have gone thru a similar situation with our son.
When Daniel was 5 he choked on a piece of peppermint candy and by the time we were able to get it dislodged he had quit breathing and turned blue. To make a long story short he could not swallow and would throw up every time he tried. We had him tested for everything and nothing could be found wrong. But we watched our son decline daily. It was absolutely horrible. He was so weak he couldn't hold his head up and none of the Drs. had answers for us. The psychiatrist finally told us that she thought he was so afraid of chocking he was starving his body to death. He did recover and was able to get over his fear of chocking although he still will not eat meat or hard candy. He is now 18 and as healthy as a horse!
I think you are an awesome Mom! And I think you should go with you instincts and have the MRI looked at again. Nothing is more important than our children.
Praise God Olivia is doing better!

Karen and Olivia
Thought I would check in with you this morning. Thanks for your updates. Sounds like she is coming along. Are you going to let her go to school on Monday for her 1/2 day? She may need more time at home. Anyway I am happy that things are on the up side and I continue to pray for a full recovery. :-) ((((hugs))))) edited to mention that I like the new picture of you and your hunky husband.......

Moody,
There are other coping stratagies for dealing with/preventing motion sickness that Olivia can learn, and use to feel more in control of the situation which might help her. Motion sickness comes when your body senses movements that don't match the information coming from your other senses, like your eyes, so your brain is getting conflicting signals. That is why reading in a moving car can trigger it, and why some people have a worse problem in the back seat of a car as opposed to the front seat.
Looking forward, with your eyes focusing on the horizon and keeping yourself oriented helps.
Getting her ears checked, and cleared if needed may also help because if she is sensitive to it, even a small amount of fluid may disrupt her internal sense of balance and movement and contribute to the conflicting signals to the brain.
Hopefully she will discover the action/combination of actions that work for her, and she will be able to integrate them soon so this stops being an issue for her.
-
Karen & Olivia - big hug this morning! Hope you both have a wonderful day today and that by Monday Olivia is biting at the bit to get back to school again!
-
Sending prayers as you return to the routines of home-life. May they comfort you as you continue to seek answers to the unknowns.

Hello, I am sorry I have just now had a chance to login and give a quick update. Olivia has had a great day. She went with me to her school to pick-up her work and with me to chemo! It was about a 30 minute car ride and she did GREAT!! She was able to recognize that the "butterfly" feeling in her tummy was nerves and not nausea and she chatted away the whole trip!! Woo Hoo!
When I was at the school, the principle saw me and came to ask how she was, so I took him out to see her in the car. He just stood there amazed at how thin she was, but thrilled with her big smile! Her school has been SOOOOOO great with us. She will go back starting Tuesday (monday is a holiday here for schools) and she will do 1/2 days thru Friday.
She has never been to the cancer doc before. The chemo lab is sooo very nice and the nurses just ate her up! I had had to reschedule my tx 3 times b/c she was in the hospital, so they had been very worried about her. The tx lab has big cushy leather recliners, and each has a 20" flat screen TV with head phones. The nurses gave her her own chair and TV and she even ate a few pretzels! She said she wants to go with me every time, but I'm no dummy, it had nothing to do with me..........LOL
We stopped by Target to get Valentines ( I had forgot!!) and she got a bit "queazy" b/c I think we over did it, but was fine by the time we got home. So all in all, I think it was another big improvement! YEA!!!!
bkc that is such a scary story about your son! Thank God he survived and is doing so great all these years later! I have to say, I can't blame him for being scared of choking again. He is definately a lucky young man! Thanks for sharing that story with us!
PatMom I think you are right about the fluid thing and there was some "patchy" fluid in her right side mastoid air cells. Usually this causes ear aches, but I think it may be what was causing her motion issues. I bet that as the fluid clears up, so will the motion stuff.
Linda54 If Olivia had her way, she would stay with me all day every day--LOL-- She actually recognizes that she is a little worried about having seperation anxiety from being away from me when she goes back. This is one very smart, observant girl! I told her that the good news is she recognizes the potential for experiencing this and that she will be able to at least know if she feels bad due to the anxiety or if it is physical. Time will tell I suppose.
You ladies are so incredibly awesome and I pray there is never a need to pay you all back if you know what I mean...........
Love to all
Karen

Happy Love Day O!

-
Happy Valentines Day to all of you wonderful, beautiful, precious ladies!!!! I am not gonna lie, this chocolate thing has been hard to negotiate with her ALL day long! LOL Since she can't hold very much food, she doesn't want to eat very much good stuff cause then she doesnt have room for her choc!! So I have been fighting that battle allllllll day long.... I am winning, but whew, bout worn out---
-
Moody - Hang in there. You are the BEST mom and you know it! You have come a long ways. At least she wants to eat something! Take care. - Jean
-
She is STILL waking up during the night with bouts of nausea. She says they don't last too terribly long, and she is still eating/drinking during the day, but I think there is something going on and they just didn't get to the bottom of it. Think I might call Wake Forrest University anyway......Thanks for all the encouragement still coming our way.
Olivia has received a few cards from you ladies here on bc.org website and it just tickles her to death! Thanks so much to you all!
-
Oh man - Both Karen and Laura have changed their photos. And you are both beautiful young ladies! I was tickled just to get a picture up there once. Great pics girls!!!!!!!
Moody - I am sorry she is still feeling nauseated. You will get to the bottom of this eventually. Take care. - Jean

Olivia and Karen
Are you going to school today? I feel that it may take time for your tummy to get back to normal. But, Karen, I would continue to investigate why she is still having some nausea. You are still in my prayers for a full recovery and to regain your strength. ((((hugs))))
-
Hi guys - hope today at school was good and not too much. You are in my prayers.
Karen - don't forget to take care of youtoo! - Gretch

Hello ladies! Olivia went to school today for half day and did great! She experienced a bit of anxiety about it last night, but recognized that is was in fact anxiety and handled it very well. She was glad to see her friends and she said all of her teachers were very happy she was back. I laughed when she said people were afraid to hug her because they were afraid they would break her! LOL
It did wear her out as she took a 2 hour nap at my office.
I had brought some bread to my office for her to make a sandwich with, it is the kind of "loaf" that you make a sub sandwhich with. She said while she was sleeping she had a dream that she ate the whole "loaf"! LMBO Poor baby, dreaming about food, too funny.
