    Gallup polling data:

    http://www.gallup.com/poll/114097/Americans-Support-Stimulus-Major-Changes.aspx

More than 70% of those polled think we need a plan, but then it breaks down to what kind of plan.  One with changes or one without any changes.  It's interesting.

Rasmussen says only 37% of us want the plan:

    http://www.rasmussenreports.com/

Conflicting data to say the least.

Well, we definitely need a plan --- I guess the economy hasn't hit some people hard enough!  We need changes, too.  Rather than give the rich a tax cut (I mean they are willing to pay more taxes, I have heard, I watched Oprah and Gayle, ya know) .. how 'bout giving the tax breaks to the middle class === the ones who really drive the economy.  The poor don't need a cut, they don't pay taxes anyway --- whatever they pay, they get back as a stimulus or rebate.

A little history about the Earned Income Credit:

    http://www.taxpolicycenter.org/publications/url.cfm?ID=1000524

It was enacted in 1975.  It was the idea of Richard Nixon, and signed into law by Gerald Ford.  It was a Republican effort at welfare reform:

If they pass this thing as expensive as it is today, and the real truth isn't out there yet about the real costs, then behind it and not too far down the road comes inflation.  I hope it isn't as bad as the Jimmy Carter type of inflation, but it's coming.  That's why a lot of people think this package will do more harm then good over the long term.  High inflation keeps us from buying also and it can be more painful to all of us in everyday items.  All this at the courtesy of our democratic senators and house reps.

McCain was alluding to the committee work might get them the 3 or 4 votes they'll need to pass this monster of illusion.  We'll see.

So BO is hiring ANOTHER team of advisors. Maybe someone will advise him to resign so that we can get someone in there who has a clue. We here knew he was alll talk. Now we are seeing we were right. As long as businesses have no faith that we have any leadership that has a solution, they will continue to layoff people. As long as Bo keeps saying it is going to take a long time to fix things, he will continue to keep people feeling doubtful. Where is the optimism of Reagan when we need it??

I never thought I would say this, but I wish Hillary Clinton was president. At least I think she would be trying to help this country instead of put it into bankruptcy.

UNHAPPY VOTERS JAM CAPITOL HILL PHONE LINES

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The recent debate over the nearly $900 billion economic stimulus plan and revelations of tax problems by three Obama administration appointees have voters angrily jamming phone lines on Capitol Hill to air their frustrations to their elected representatives...

BO is brilliant, he is truly a man of vision.  With the country suffering from a recession of private sector growth, the president has began a plan to put people to work.  First you pick a Cabinet to advise you, then the cabinet hires advisers, the advisers hire people to form committees, the committees hire people to form groups, the groups hire people to form a collective, the collective hire people to form advisory communities, the communities hire people to support organization, Now you have a fully organized paid workforce dedicated to come up with  a way to find a job for the one person left in the country that is not part of the advisory team..  The solution, just give him money.

    SIMPLY BRILLIANT

BOZO was supposed to be asking for $800 billion, now it's a TRILLION he is demanding.  Demanding.  The "I WON" attitude.  Where is the change? Where is bipartisanship?

Ann, I don't think anyone has done a good job at welfare reform.  Bill Clinton tried and I think for a while it was working when he set limits to the amount of time one could be on welfare.  However, even that is not the answer because what happens if a hard working person ends up without work again and has kids?  I do think that INVESTING in some of the parents is the answer -- not giving handouts.  I believe that in order to qualify for welfare, one should be in school or receiving some sort of on the job training that will create a skilled labor force or professional career that will be recession proof.  I don't mind paying for these people to go to school.  I do mind paying for them to stay home and stay in their situation. Daycare is provided at many schools and it's free if you qualify.

I am surprised that there is no funding for skilled labor training.  There is no funding for scholarships for Adults to get college degrees and possible living expenses while they make a transition from factory workers to health care workers or some other recession proof job.

I also think they should fund more investigators to discover welfare, disability and food stamp eligibility fraud.  There are so many people that claim they can't find a job, can't work or don't earn enough, yet work under the table, refuse to work or get doctor's to give them a free pass. One person I know manages to claim disability but sure can do a lot of volunteer work. If they can volunteer 15 hours a week why can't they at least get a part time job??? And this person has a degree!!

Vivre - Wisconsin did try to get welfare reform. Here there is a 5 year limit and you have to show proof that you are looking for a job. They provide childcare - but unfortunately they allow you to choose who takes care of your children - which leads to people working the system. I say I have a job at ABC store and Ms. Jones is going to take care of my children. The state then pays Ms. Jones to take care of my children (which may or may not exist  seems they don't check and take your word for it) and we split the check from the State. The State would be better off having state-approved day care centers so that they can more easily check if a child is enrolled - but that would probably be too easy.

IBC - how true. Pretty soon everyone will be employed by BO as an adviser!

Rock - Skilled labor training??? According to Obama's hack, jobs should NOT go to professionals so I guess skilled labor is not high on their priority list.

Actually, didn't Obama's hack say that it should not go to WHITE professionals.  Now, I ask you, is that racism or what?

I have to agree, Clinton wouldn't have signed anything coming from Pelosi, she at least would have read it first.  If they don't have the votes this package has to go back to the House for repairs, and I don't think they're up to the task.

I heard that most of the spending won't happen till after 2 years go by.  WHAT ARE THEY DOING?  And most of the jobs will be in government (that's where IBC's plan comes in to play).

I most definately agree with everyone here saying welfare should be in the form of education with child care provided.

Not to pour salt on an open wound, but the lady with 14 kids, has been on disability for years for hurting her back.  Yet, she can have all those kids. She's collected something like $160+K over the last 6 years.  Now we know who paid for her fertilization,... California.

Yes, and she said because she felt a need to be "connected to someone" .. thus her obsession with children .. um, didn't she already have a connection to 6?   People think, it's not our business, but it is ...  we are the ones that have to provide food, shelter and education for them. I suppose we should be thankful she had so many now since she will be off the dole with her book deal, talk show circuit and possible tv show!

That woman with the 14 children is a bit delusional. I heard her talking to Ann Curry today and she said she will be able to support her children once she gets her degree. Eight children in childcare at once would eat up even the most highly paid person's salary - let alone then feeding and clothing 14!!! I would not give her a book deal or a TV show - she really should not be even interviewed. She should not profit from this - I can just see the copy cats coming out of the woodwork!

She's on disability from a work related back injury. Carrying 8 babies at one time...huh...with a back injury! Give me a break. She said she wants to finish schooling to become a Counselor! OMG - HELP ME...she NEEDS a Counselor - not BE one! She needs a Pschy eval to determine whether she is mentally capable to care for her kids. She said she will be able to afford the 14 after she finishes school. Okay - fine and dandy...but what about now... the present... is she just going to not feed and diaper them until after she graduates?

    I agree!

Is this post short enough?  LOL

I've been watching C-Span part of the day.  Housing crisis started this whole thing..but no help for foreclosures....banks still not lending...jobs being lost.  My SIL got laid off because the credit was tight and his company could not pay the employees ALTHOUGH they were busy, busy, busy.

Looks like the rearranging of the deck chairs won't help.  I fear this spending package will pass.  In in very short time if this bill is passed with all the BS in it, the Titanic will surely sink!   Then whose fault will it be?  The captain, Obama?  Where's the first mate?

Today is the one year anniversary of Cam's dx.  This year and the two years prior of her being sick, trying to get a correct dx, has been long and hard for her.  It's hard to believe that after all this time, she is still only on the first step of the treatment staircase.  That said, we are thankful for the fact that she is doing as well as she is doing, and I am thankful to have the pleasure of knowing you guys.

I get the impression she truly wants the babies... but again... I think she needs a pschy eval. Her Mom said she's obsessed with children even when she was in her teens.

There's a Moody update in the prayer forum.

He is starting to sound more and more like Mao ... and remember Mao had a gang of 4 --  Reid, Pelosi, Rahm Emmanuel, and Gibbs.

ObaMAO, in the news:  "WASHINGTON - President Barack ObaMAO decried as "inexcusable and irresponsible" the delay of his economic recovery legislation in Congress with an estimated 3.6 million Americans losing their jobs since the recession began.

ObaMAO's remarks were some of his most direct and pointed in support of the massive economic package that the Senate considered Friday and tried to pare down below its $900-billion-plus price tag. ObaMAO acknowledged it was not perfect and pledged to work with lawmakers to refine the measure, which he called "absolutely necessary.""

    ---------

What? It's inexcuseable to investigate this? To demand that we not spend money unnecessarily? If we need health coverage so bad, why spend money on a remodel of a federal building?  I don't go out and get new clothes if I can't afford my health coverage or FOOD!!

Gosh, this man needs to stop believe his followers -- be humble, not like a dictator or pseudo-messiah. Stop reading to kindergarten kids. Stop arguing with radio people or news agencies (even Bush didn't stoop to that).   We have a mega-crisis here, we need to believe that he can work it out, not this "I won" crap, or "listen to me because I said so" .. hello? Again, you and what army of experience????

Glenn Beck: GE in bed with Obama

    Audio Available:

    February 6, 2009 - 13:01 ET

Glenn Beck is seen here on the Insider Webcam, an exclusive feature available only to Glenn Beck Insiders. Learn more...

GLENN: We are crossing into new territory now where government and business are blending into one and that bothers me. It tell you something.

Listen to me. Our founding fathers would be going crazy. They would be printing up leaflets everywhere right now. They would be going crazy. And every single person that is -- that, you know, these people who were against big business, all these people that were, you know, antibusiness, where are you now? Because business is becoming -- and I'm not antibusiness. I love business. Not this. You take my favorite company, you take Fox News. If Fox News merged with the United States, I ain't supporting it. I ain't working there. No way. You don't merge companies with government. Only bad things happen on that.

So now where are these people? Where are the people like Keith Olbermann that would stand up and say, "Wait a minute, guys, we were against, you know, Raytheon, we were against Halliburton" because of all the buddies of Halliburton.

I've got good news and I've got bad news on GE. The GE thing, here they are, they are merging government and business with GE. They've got -- GE, I'm telling you, is going to be bailed out. GE will get all kinds of contracts from the government on green energy and everything else. The CEO of GE has now been appointed, today he's just been appointed as an economic advisor for Barack Obama. That's amazing. The guy who -- the guy who would not -- shareholders are like, "Can we sell NBC? This is really not good." They're like, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope. The guy who put MSNBC and put him into the left category, to the point to where Tim Russert said you're destroying our credibility, this guy is, he's down with Keith Olbermann and everything else. You've been asking why for a very long time, yada, yada, yada. Well, now you know. This guy doesn't need the largest lobbying arm in America. He doesn't need that anymore. He's got the president's ear. "Oh, we've got that green week thing. Don't worry. We're doing another green week. We'll help you on that. These people are just stupid. You're exactly right, we'll help you, President Obama and Al Gore, we'll help you convince everybody. We got another Green Week coming up, and we'll do some more green stories and global warming stories, you know, on the news with Brian Williams.

Brian Williams should be shaking in his boots. Now, here's the good side. GE, Stu, have they taken money yet? Weren't they made into -- weren't they given that loophole like American Express was so they can be a bank? GE, GE Finance or GE Capital, didn't they take some money?

    STU: I think they did.

GLENN: I think they did, too.

STU: I know if they get another round they would, I would assume, be --

GLENN: So Jeffrey Immelt would not be able to have those big fat cat salaries?

STU: Right, he would be cut to 500,000.

GLENN: My question is would Keith Olbermann be allowed to have a $7 million salary? Because he's with the people, you know.

    STU: Right.

GLENN: He's for the little guy. He's the guy who is, he's in there fighting for you against all of these fat cats that are making so much money. Remember, I never have a problem with people making money. I want you to be as rich as you possibly can. God bless America (singing). Keith Olbermann, now, that's a different story. If GE takes money from the government, will they insist that Keith Olbermann does not make $7 million a year? Just wondering. I'm just wondering if Keith Olbermann would say, "You know what, I'm taking taxpayers' money. This is what socialism is all about, shared sacrifice. I'm just wondering." Yeah?

STU: Wouldn't, because he -- what is the wording on this, the way the bailout thing is worded, either a senior or a top executive, correct?

    GLENN: Uh-huh.

    STU: I mean, clearly --

GLENN: Brian Williams is a senior executive. He is -- if I'm not mistaken, he is the editor in chief or the senior producer or whatever it is for the NBC nightly news.

STU: Because I mean, I don't know his exact title and I think this has nothing to do with really your position. Certainly you can't pay a janitor $7 million because they are a janitor. But beyond that, he has bragged on the air forever. He's the one that picked Rachel Maddow. He's the one that got Imus fired. He's the guy. He brags about it all the time.

GLENN: Well, he is clearly a senior advisor to MSNBC.

STU: I want him to make $500,000 so bad.

GLENN: Oh, wouldn't it be great?

STU: You know he -- I mean, I don't watch his show --

GLENN: I think we should campaign for him.

STU: He had to have been supporting the CEO cuts. There's no way he didn't.

GLENN: Stu, Stu, may I give you weekend homework that will make you happy?

    STU: Yes, you can.

GLENN: Will you go through all of the tapes that you can get your hands on of anything that Keith Olbermann has said about how these scumbags need to make only $500,000 a year.

    STU: Sure, no problem.

GLENN: Bring it to the show on Monday, will you?
