Laura - it sounds like it is working for him! More power to the man. Maybe the vinegar cleanses the pores while he is in the steamy shower. Now me, I use vinegar to get the salt off of my boots and floors in winter, oh and to wash windows. LOL - spray bottle and all, huh? LOL
-
I agree with the acidic effects of the vinegar to exfoliate. Glad to see a guy taking care of himself. I cannot get dh to even use soap with moisture in it, instead of deoderant---then he complains of itchy skin!
-
Mine too, Dotti. Uses Lever 2000 and sometimes fees itchy. I told him to use my Dove or Cetaphil - Oh, this soap is fine. Whatcha gonna do? He does smell good with the Lever 2000.

If interested in ELF cosmetics go to EyesLipsFace.com
I like the toothbrush idea too. Most days I feel that if I have lipstick on, I'm good to go.
When I went to see the PS after my hospitalization I think he was shocked to see me in make-up and my hair done.
When I put mascara on I wind up with clumps of it on my upper lids. I usually use eyeshadow to line my eyes but then I put the mascara on and it looks like a painted line across my lid. What am I doing wrong?
-
Kind of gross, but the best trick to get mascara off your eyelid without smudging your eyeshadow is... take a q-tip, and use your own saliva (I know it's disgusting) and in one swoop it should remove the mascara from your eye lid without messing up the makeup. Another weird/useless saliva tip, that I forget where I learned... but your own saliva can get out your own blood. Not that we are walking around staining our clothing with blood, but it's just something I learned that your own spit can get it out of your clothing...
If your mascara is too clumpy, you should wipe the brush before applying it. Also, avoid pumping the wand into the tube, or you will let air in, and it will dry out and get clumpy.
-
He sprays it on his face when he wakes up...leaves it on while he has coffee, etc. - about 20 minutes - then takes a shower.
Another idea for mascara smudges...dip a q-tip in your moisturizer.
-
Q-tip in moisturizer is the method I use after rubbing with my finger doesn't do it.
Hair question: does anyone take Biotin and if so, does this promote faster hair growth? Again, NOT COMPLAINING, but my hair seems to be growing so slowly.
-
Raye, I am taking Biotin; just ran out. I took it off list here on board; Dr. okayed it...but I've never known what it's for! I do think my hair is growing faster...hmmmm?
Keep a bottle of oil-free eye makeup remover handy and use that for smudges. One end of Q to appy; the other to remove. I think the secret is to slow down.
-
Daffodil - thanks. Marin has talked about Biotin quite a bit, but I was always afraid if it made hair and nails grow, that it might make a tumor grow. That was a couple of years ago, and I am now willing to try the Biotin. I realize the mineral is in most multi-vitamins, but the bottle with the biotin alone has a much higher concentration.
BTW - Love your dog! Is he/she a Lab? I have a chocolate - 4 years old.
-
Misty is 6. We got her from Lab Rescue, but we are convinced that she is a Labradollie!
She "herds" us!!
-
Really? Interesting - does sounds like a border collie mix, but certainly doesn't look like one from the pic! She is beautiful (not that collies aren't).
-
Beth- so glad to know I am not weirdo all by myself! Have sworn by q-tip and spit technique for yrs!
-
Spit helps take the itch out of mosquito bites, too.
I am just whooped. Worked my butt off this morning disassembling and packing a spinning wheel to ship to someone in TX and I couldn't get the whole thing in one box and cripe, I hunted high and low for another one. It cost me a fortune to ship the damn thing. Sorry for the gripe but there is no one else around to complain to. Thanx, girls.
I feel better already.I found an old picture of me from when I was 27 or 28. Wasn't it here that everyone was revealing their youthful selves? I'll have to scan it and post soon.
Raye, I took Biotin after chemo and I really don't know if it did anything but I don't think it hurt. Marin also swore by Nioxin shampoo. One of my friends, who is on Femara, had been complaining that her hair was getting so much thinner so I told her about the Nioxin. After using it for a couple of months, she says it is definitely helping with hair growth and thickness. Myself, I don't know.
-
Who knew so much good comes from saliva?
Tina- I feel like you've been hunting for a box for that wheel for three days-- I'm glad it's all over and done with. I can't wait to see your pic.
Raye- I used Nioxin cleansing shampoo and whichever their tingly green conditioner was. Then I got a spray from them too. I can't say if it worked or not. I truly feel that one day out of the blue, my hair growth just took off. It was about two years after finishing treatment. If you are vitamin depleted, then you are not going to have healthy, even growth.
You know that stupid saying, a watched pot never boils (which is so true in my case) it's the same with the hair. You really can only judge hair growth at 6 month intervals in my opinion.
-
Raye, she has a white strip down her chest...and that fake Lab curled tail! She IS pretty, but black Labs are so hard to photograph~~~have to stick their noses into everything, including the camera!
I use saliva to dampen eyeliner brush~~~if it works for contacts.......
-
Okay ladies I need help. Just finishing rads and will be done treatments. I have about I inch of short grey hair on my head and intend to colour it. But my problem is the awful darkness all around my eyes. The dior concealer I have doesn't seem to help. I am so tired of looking sick.
-
Many people swear by Laura Mercier concealer!
-
Thanks Daff I will try that brand.
-
Also, consider, if it is red around your eyes, use a green-tinged concealer, if purple, use a yellow one. Makes all the difference in the world. Don't put it on too heavily and let your powder or foundation "top it up". If you use a solid cream, let the warmth of your fingers spread it rather than pull it across your under eye.
-
For under eye circles I LOVE neutrogena color correcting stick #4. I apply it with the MAC silicone haired brush, and then use my fingers to really make sure its patted on nicely.

I've lost touch with things but always try to scan make up and fashion threads whenever I can. Liora was discussing price of plastic surgery. I work in a hospital and overhear conversations frequently. I am thinking at the current state of economy, one could really haggle regarding cosmetic procedures. Several discussions around procedures that are paid out of pocket are way way down and one could conceivably haggle and get prices dropped. Our plastic surgery numbers are dropping considerably. Theory is that people are not spending because of fear of what may happen or is currently happening. On the biotin front, I have been using it for about 3 years. I started cause I though it may thicken up my now thin arimidex hair. I am not sure about thickness but I guarantee in my case the strands grow longer overnight. One of the girls at work that works very prn says my hair length doubles every month. That is definitely an exaggeration but it does grow fast. My big makeup wish is all I want for Christmas is eyelashes. Post chemo I had a better than ever set and when they fell out for the third time, I never got much back and everything is very blonde. I dye my eyebrows but am at a loss for eyelashes. I have had them dyed a couple of times but there is just not enough of them. I also have tried individual false ones but am all thumbs at trying to get them placed. I also have the furry strips but everything is a bit too long or too thick. I would love them to be a bit more natural looking. The other issue is most of what I find is black black black and I probably would do better with light brown. I have seen that color in stores but not very often. I do remember somebody talking about a mascara that makes lashes grow. Did that ever come out on the market? For a final note we have a yellow lab and a chocolate one at home. My take on our labbies is the yellow one is way smarter but the chocolate one is way more affectionate.
-
I had a yellow Lab, Freddie (female) and she could not kiss. She just nudged you with her muzzle. I don't think she was stupid, just impaired. LOL She was my sweet tweetie.
mymayan, have you checked to see if you are anemic? That might cause those dark circles.
gracejon, don't feel too bad about the falling out lashes. I finished chemo in mid-May '08 and mine have fallen out every three months like clockwork. I think I just finished the sixth time, although they are less and less in synch each time. I think the next time it will be hardly noticeable.
-
Maybe with procedure prices down (I am gonna run that by PS Monday; he's carving a squamous cell out of my leg
), you get eyelash transplant!!! -
I like the NARS concealer stick (looks like lip stick) and use a concealer brush; although I use it on my lids as base (after moisture and before shadow)
DD has used something we found in ULTA to help w/really dark circles she had for a while; wasn't cheap but don't use much at a time. Its called Amazing Cosmetics- amazing concealer. They have a site: amazingconcealer.com. No animal testing, made in USA.
Good luck

Hi all-
I don't mean to just barge in here but was doing a search on some products and noticed that many of you use Burt's Bees products and I love them too. I used to order Bert's Bees from Iherb but since clorox bought Burt's Bees, they won't let iherb sell them anymore. So now I found a website that you can get Burt's Bees much cheaper than at Target or other stores, the site is www.swansonvitamins.com. I have ordered from them only once and have been pleased with their products and they only charge $4.99 on any size order. They keep sending me coupons too. I saved a ton on what I ordered last and they sent me a $5 coupon so on my next order my shipping will be free.
Just thought that I would share my good find.

Thanks for the tip, Liz~~~will check it out.
Check out Powderflage at www.benefitcosmetics.com It was in February InStyle.
-
Thanks for the tips Liz and Daff.
Speaking of lashes falling out - my left eyebrow seems to be thinning. A few of the hairs are short, but somewhat curling (if you can imagine this tableau - really weird) and I swear thinner and skimpier than the right brow. Can't really complain, as I know the brows and lashes go through changes, but somewhat strange considering I finished chemo in late 2006 and not on any AI's due to being Trip Neg. Not the end the world, just curious.
-
Does the powderflage settle in fine lines?
-
10 years ago my sister asked if my eyebrows seemed to be thinning as I got older. I said no.
Ever since then they have been thinning terribly! I have to fill in the bit at my nose with eyeshadow to make them more prominent, but don't brush it along the rest of them (yet).
I have never plucked my brows!! Waaaaaaa
-
My brows were never dark or full, and after chemo they came back even lighter. I refuse to think they are GREY! I used to have more money and had my brows dyed once a month (about $30), but can't afford that any more. Now, I go to Wally World and buy the men's dye for beards. I get a dark brown and mix it up and put it on my brows 5 minutes once a month. Works Great! The whole thing cost about $6 and has lasted about 6 months so far! I know to be very careful about getting the dye in my eyes, but the cost makes me do it!
