The Respectfully Republican Conversation

Hi Guys:
I emailed both of my Dem senators again today. Also called Debbie Stabenow (Dem) after her comment about silencing conservative talk radio (my words, not hers), but the voice mail was full. Surprise, surprise!!! All we can do is keep trying to stop this bill (in its present form) from passing. HELP!!!!!
Hugs,
Pat
P.S. Prayers continuing for Olivia, Karen and the whole family.

We have a working Congress TODAY. Sorry but not working for America. McCain's substitute economic recovery plan was voted down, and they also voted down the McCain-Feingold amendment that would not allow earmarks in the bill, and they would have had have to list all the lobbyists working on it. Only 32 voted for it, so we lost some republicans to the other side.
The SCHIPS bill got passed so fast I didn't even get a chance to look at it.

Adding my prayer for Olivia
from the book of Numbers
It is the one Moses said when his sister Miriam was sick:
"O Lord, please heal her." (Numbers 12:13)
-
As of July last year, the population in the U.S. was 303,500,000. Of those, some aren't old enough, some are too old, not for a Senate job, but otherwise. So the difference is all the illegals Pelosi is willing to let in. We'll watch for that legislation.
-
The ONE is busy today reading to kindergartners. Great photo ops but isn't there a bit of pressing business that needs to be done today? Imagine if Bush had done that? I guess Bama is still trying that whole voting "present" thing, even when he is out to lunch on what he needs to do?
Can we hear the implosion of Obamania! WHO! WHO!
-
And WHOOPS there goes help for people getting ready to be foreclosed on. No they won't be offering 4% mortgages to refinance. I thought the dems wanted to help their constituents keep their homes? Ahhh, maybe not.
-
Moody, I hope by now you have talked to some doctors that know how to treat Olivia. I know you're hurting so badly for your child. I cannot imagine what you are going through..only a tiny bit because I was a mom too and had a couple of incidences that were scary.
Ya gotta hang in there no matter what. YOU have to remain strong and after you know the treatment that Olivia needs then YOU CAN FALL APART! But not now.
All of us will be praying for Olivia and you and your family. We miss you.
Dear Lord. We again lift up Olivia to You. We pray that You will guide the doctors to make decisions quickly that are necessary for Olivia's recovery. We pray that her body can be nourished so that Olivia can regain her strength. We pray for Karen..please keep her strong, Dear Lord. There are times, Lord, when we who are going through trials do not have the strength or words, and that's when we depend on our friends to come to You to pray on our behalf.
Thank you, Lord, in advance for the knowledge that You give to the doctors that are caring for Olivia. In Jesus name, Amen.
Romans 8:26
In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express -
I've been watching some of C-Span today. I was so impressed by Sen. Graham's "performance." He was angry. He called it right..this was a partisan bill written by Pelosi and her ilk. I also heard that Obama made a statement..translation..forget about bipartisan passage..just pass it! If a republican votes for this mess I hope we know which ones they are. I heard my republican senator speak today and he's not one of them.
-
I wrote to my two Senators .........
Dear Madame Senator:
I am writing to ask you to stop this spending package. I do not like what I am hearing about the items included on this bill. I do not think spending millions on remodelling the Mall and Federal offices/building is going to help our economy or create any long term jobs. I would be a fool to think that remodelling my kitchen with borrowed money, even though someone will get paid to do the work, is going to help my neighborhood. Weatherizing public housing is not going to create any lasting jobs either!! What would you teach these young people? How to caulk? Weatherstrip? Insulate? That is not skilled labor! And how is that going to make us less reliant on foreign oil? The poor already get assistance from the utility companies so the weatherization is not saving US any money. Mr. Obama said it was a "threefer" ... I think he is smoking some "reefer" if he really believes that!
I am not of the opinion that these Chicago thugs that are in the WH really have the good intentions that they say. Obama is the Pied Piper and his music has stopped and most of us are out of the ether.
I am tired of Democrat politics as usual: the rich feeling guilty so they give more funds to the poor; the poor wanting a bigger piece of the pie and not having to work for it. I am a working parent whose check gets sliced and diced up every which way. I am tired of paying for lazy people to stay at home, get free food and still get a stimulus check! How did I miss that train???? Oh, I know, I came from hard working parents, a public servant and realtor, who taught me how to save, spend within my means and get second job if I need more money!
Whose idea is it to spend money on highways and make sure that they crumble and have to be torn up in two years so the Trans workers will not be out of work??? Why not fix our bridges and roads so that they last for decades? Take a look at the autobahn; it has the same winters as Ohio but not not have to be dug up and repaved every other year!! hmmmm
Tell Obama No! Fix this plan and spend our money on things that will not be obsolete in 3 years. Tell him we need less government programs, we need to reduce spending and cut taxes in a recession, not a remodelled Mall!!
Sincerely upset,
-
Moody, forgot to tell you that my dd decided to say her own prayer last night for Olivia. It was very touching as she prayed for God to fix "whatever Olivia has like you fixed Mommy's cancer" .. what was strange how she mentioned 3 times that there be no fighting and let there be peace ...
just had to tell you ..... maybe there is some fighting behind the scenes with the dr's?????
-
Reid is talking and he said there's a committee from both parties looking into ways of trimming this. Meanwhile, the dems won't pass any repubs amendments, so what's the hope for that committee? So much has to taken out, they won't be able to get through it all in one day, we'll still have pork. 1566 pages, do we think they can go through all of that? I'll bet the goal is to just get it a tad under $1 trillion, and let it be.
-
Here's how I see it. I just heard Obama refuses to let THAT happen...sorry, I just heard those stupid words come out of his mouth. Now, back to my thought. The American people do not want this bill to pass. Just because they went to the poll and voted for him does not mean they want this...I believe the American people have spoken and are still speaking! Thirty four percent only approve of this bill! WHATWHATWHATWHATWHOWHOWHONONONOWHYWHYWHY!
What happened to Obama's promise to go through all the programs and cut those that are not working. Another promise broken?
Are the dimwits really that dim/dumb? Can they not see this is not a stimulus package, but a spending bill? This is the liberals dream come true! I can't wait for the next election. Obama admitted he screw up...well, he's screwing up more by DEMANDING that this bill is passed. I hope NO republican falls for this mess.
That's all I got to say about that!
Shirley
-
Rosemary, the last I heard was the committee was 5 repubs and 11 dems. Is that the committee he's talking about?
-
Way to start your presidency, Mr. President!
-
I've mentioned that one of my daughters' works for a large international company. A surprise came today. Obviously the company had not mentioned that there would be lay offs. She is one fo the HR managers. She called me a noon (went home for lunch and to work at home the rest of the day) telling me that they layed off (and she had to be involved) a 38 year old man who has a wife on disability and a couple of kids. It was a complete surprise to those who did not know lay offs were coming..my dd did since she's in HR. However, my dd was crying so hard. Other people who had no idea that this was coming were so surprised..others were crying.
So, please pray tell how this stimulus package is going to put this man back to work. Weather stripping training?
How is this bill going to help the housing crisis?
I hope the republicans don't get beaten down and help pass this mess.
-
Moody,
It's time for Liv to be better. There are not any decent trees in Altlanta for Shirley and me to hide in. This is cutting into some serious stalking time.
The prayer that Shirley said, ditto from me to God to you and Olivia.
-
There has been some good information on hospitals (Duke is one of them) that specialize in things like this posted on the Prayer forum. Hopefully, Karen will be able to contact the other hospitals to get involved.
As soon as Miss Muffett and I get home, we will say our prayers for Livie.
-
I think we need to come together again tonight for a group prayer. Same time - 9 central
Maybe we should do the same 9 am. We need to do as much as we can. I am sure everyone feels as helpless as I do. Wish we could say and do something to help. I guess, all we can do is send up our prayers together.
-
~~~~~~~~~~~~~Continuing to pray for Olivia and her parents~~~~~~
-
I had posted the number on the the prayer thread but if any of you are interested, the hospital that Olivia is in has a great gift shop that delivers to the rooms. The number is 404-785-4516 That's Olivia Moody in room 401
January 20, 2009:
1. Outgoing President George W. Bush quietly boards his helicopter and leaves for Texas, commenting only: "Today is not about me. Today is a historical day for our nation and people."
1. Outgoing President Bill Clinton schedules two separate radio addresses to the nation, and organizes a public farewell speech/ rally in downtown Washington D.C. scheduled to directly conflict with incoming President Bush's inauguration ceremony.
January 20, 2009:
2. President Bush leaves office without issuing a single Presidential pardon, only granting a commutation of sentence to two former border patrol agents convicted of shooting a convicted drug smuggler. He does not grant any type of clemency to Scooter Libby or any other former political aide, ally, or business partner.
Eight years ago:
2. President Clinton issues 140 pardons and several commutations of sentence on his final day in office. Included in these are: billionaire financier, convicted tax evader, and leading Democratic campaign contributor Marc Rich; Whitewater scandal figure Susan McDougal; Congressional Post Office Scandal figure and former Democratic Congressman Dan Rostenkowski; convicted bank fraud, sexual assault and child porn perpetrator and former Democratic Congressman Melvin Reynolds; and convicted drug felon Roger Clinton, the President's half-brother.
January 20, 2009:
3. The Bush daughters leave gift baskets in the White House bedrooms for the Obama daughters, containing flowers, candy, stuffed animals, DVD's and CD's, and heartfelt notes of encouragement and advice for the young girls on how to prepare for their new lives in the White House.
3. Clinton and Gore staffers rip computer wires and electrical outlets from the White House walls, stuff piles of notebook papers into the White House toilets, systematically remove the letter "W" from every computer key-pad in the entire White House, and damage several thousand dollars worth of furniture in the White House master bedroom.
"Obama Spends $170 million on inauguration; America Needs A Big Party"
"Everyman Obama shows America how to celebrate"
"Citibank executives contribute $8 million to Obama Inauguration"
(There are reports that the high cost, up to $190M, was due to massive security; and that cost wasn't ibncluded in Bush's figures. However, the Mall is so destroyed, not including the massive trash removal bill(including all those flags left on the ground), that it will take at least 4 months to repair and replant and relandscape.)
-
By 9 PM central time, I am no longer anywhere near the computer, but I can still pray. I joined in last night, and I'll join in again tonight, as well as praying for Olivia many times during the day.
-
Daffodil,
What a report. I guess Bush putting $40 million in the inaugural security coffers for Obama wasn't nearly enough.
Shirley,
I thought they said the committee had 8 people on it from each side.
The Coburn Amendment is very important. He's trying to get the Mayor's wishlist of 35,000 projects amended out of this bill. I first read it was 18,000 requests. Golf courses, water parks, lite rail going to a stadium in Fl that doesn't get much attendence, dog parks, freesby parks, you know the kind of long term jobs that stimulate this economy. As Obama has said, so what there's fluff in there, just pass it. That fluff adds a couple of billion dollars to the price tag, or more for these requests, not to worry...we won't pay for them, our grandchildren will. Oh, and let's not forget $500,000 for a mob exhibit in Vegas.
-
I go to dog parks ... they don't have even ONE employee there normally. I guess someone comes in the morning to empty trash and pick up left over poop ... I guess with Obama around we will need some heavy duty, highly skilled Poop Scoopers ... maybe they should follow Obama, Frozen Face and Reid. There is a lot of crap coming out of this administration!!!!!!!!!!!
$$!
-
The One is talking live right now.
-
Well, I found the 500,000 mil jobs. As I expected there is a provision in the package that will allow illegal aliens to work on these projects. Americans first? Well open the doors.
-
Why would I want to have my taxes raised to employ foreign workers???????????
-
Ladies, I never post here but enjoy reading. I have a question nothing really to do with politics but I thought someone here might have the answer.
I was preparing our taxes(YUK) and a friend told me her daughter was getting back almost $4000. This girl only worked about 5 or 6 months last year if that! The rest of the time she spent getting pregnant with her 4th child. I know she could not have paid in $4000. Mom said it was EARNED INCOME CREDIT. EARNED INCOME!!!! I checked this out and am baffled. How the heck can you get back more than you paid in?
This girl gets foodstamps, free daycare, Medicaid for her kids ETC. and now EARNED INCOME! Please someone explain this to me! NO WONDER SHE DOESN"T WORK.
I want to take a 6 month vacation and let someone else pay for it!
-
She is part of the Democrat voting block ... keep the poor masses happy and they keep voting for you. You think if the checks stopped in 2 years (you know, time for training and provide daycare) she'd be happy? No -- but that's what should be happening -- but that would be Republican thinking to take care of yourself.
-
Sherri,
Harry didn't have the votes. The committee is still out trying to fix this thing and he said he wanted to give them a chance to do it, and then everyone would need to see what fixes they came up with today. What disappointed me the most yesterday, was the dems voting down the 4% mortgages to homeowners. That could have saved our bacon, but in their wisdom... and don't they know best. What got us into this mess should be worked on first, which is the foreclosures. There's still a lot more of them to hit the market, and it could have gone a long way to help people hold on.
They had a vote to table Sen. Coburn amendment, he seems to have quite a few, which would make any work projects have to have competititve bidding. Tabling it, went down hard. 97 against killing the bill. Whoever that 1 turkey was who voted for tabling, I missed it. I don't even know why they had a vote to table it. Of course anyone would want competitive bidding.
They're starting today at 10AM.
