Shirley - you do know something - and no docs don't always check things out. I used to work in a lab and something would be staring them right in the face and they would miss it.

Sherri - so true - he should appoint some more tax cheaters - at least it will get them to pay up. LMAO.  Doesn't it bother Obama's supporters just a little bit that he has appointed all these very unethical people? And he stands by them as if there is no one else who can do the job. We are going to h*!! in a handbasket if the most competent people in the country cannot "remember" to pay their taxes!  Apparently Daschle knew about his tax problem months ago and did not tell Obama until very recently - now that is someone you can trust - NOT!

Did you see in the "stimulus" er spending bill that there is no cap on the income for Medicaid. Diane Sawyer was interviewing John McCain and he said that anyone - including the rich could get on Medicaid with what is in this bill. I think they are calling it stealth nationalized healthcare. Remember when during the campaign he said McCain's healthcare plan would make employers drop their healthcare plans  - what do you think no income cap on Medicaid will do?

Moody - so glad you got your daughter back to the ER and admitted. ERs are notorius for sending people home who should not be. Sometimes you just have to take a stand and refuse to leave until something is done. As Shirley mentioned, have they checked her for Salmonella? Not sure if she eats peanut butter or any of the stuff that they are recalling - I don't think they even know all of the stuff that is involved yet - would not hurt to ask. Also E. coli 0157.  I will keep Olivia and you in my prayers.

They are voting for Eric Holder now, or they just did it.  Let me think, that's right, he's the guy who recommended to Clinton, no he's the guy who, no wait...I'll get it.  I'm getting all the charges confused with who is who, and what they did.

    Sherri,

Thanks for the offer of Monopoly game. Is that a new updated version which reflects new business model ? When I land on your property, I get money from you a rich land/building  owner who has to share the wealth ? Wink Also do I get to refinance my property using VIP program like Chris Dodd?

Unfortunately I was  not able to get my results today as they told me that they give priority to the "diagnostic" mammos vs screening ones. It's one of the cons of going to large research universities.

Laura, I was on the Reagan this weekend, and the Blago signs are still up. What gives? I thought they were going to get them down. Every time I passed under the Blago signs, I just got so furious at the half a million Blago wasted to put them up. All so the egomaniac could have his name all over the tollways.  I am so glad they will be gone, but it makes me sick  that this money  could have been well spent elsewhere.

So folks are bragging now that Obama is so bipartisan with his cabinet posts. Why is no one questioning another crook in the new Obama cabinet, LaHood, whose name fits his profile? This RINO has a long affilication with the crooks who have bilked Illinois taxpayers out of millions by getting lucrative construction projects. Now Obama is promoting this guy to sec of commerce so he can continue to deliver votes for Obama in exchange for lucrative infrastructure projects. The cockroaches are scampering out of Illinois and setting up shop in DC. It would be nice to be happy that they are leaving the Land of Lincoln, but cockroaches tend to really multiply when they are well fed. Call the Orkin man!!

Moody, thanks for keeping us posted. I hope that figure this out soon and get your little girl back on the road to good health. You are in my prayers.

Obama appointed more than 17 lobbyists after talking big on anti-lobbyist, clean Governance. He actually had to sigh 17 waivers for this.

    WOHOOO! CHANGE!

vivre - Since brag, brag, Brago is unemployed, he should have to take the signs down. Or at least pay for it to be done. lol

Hmmmmmmm...maybe politicians - once elected should have to take out a liability ins policy - similar to malpractice ins - so in the event they cheat the public - the policy would reimburse the tax payers for the cost of the trials, etc.

    This is really bad:

February 2, 2009 (CHICAGO) (WLS) -- Hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of drugs, vaccines, and birth control pills may have been stolen or misplaced because of lax security and record-keeping at a warehouse.

The problem was exposed by a Health Department audit.

The report finds the Health Department's failure to track and account for drugs caused a "serious health and liability risk."

For example, there were more than 400 packages of birth control pills which the report finds are unaccounted for...

OMG - the article goes on to say they suspect the meds were stolen and resold on the black market. Of course the Dr who was in charge of the meds at the ware they were stored at denies it all. DENY, DENY, DENY.

Moody - Hoping your daughter is doing better. Best wishes to you.

Wouldn't that be a good idea .. then maybe the insurance job would vet all the politicians better than the media does.  I don't know who or what committee is supposed to research our candidates.  It seems that when they are appointed politicians, then they get vetted by our government automatically.  I would guess the DNC and GOP are supposed to vet their own candidtates before setting them on stage!  Really, it's not the media's job but we have come to depend on them to find the dirty secrets of everyone! LOL ...

I really think that the insurance companies would do a good job getting to the bottom of things instead of acting like the pols do, "Well, we can explain that one, well, that one will never get out. That one, I'd better admit.  That? hmmm Who can we pay off?"

I heard this morning that five newspapers INCLUDING the N.Y. Times are calling for Daschle to withdraw his name.  There's some lefties out there really getting weary about this administratin.  I'm telling ya!  Running a campaign (and I doubt BHO ran his) is not like "running" a nation.  And being a community organizer is nothing like organizing a trustworthy presidential cabinet.

Here's how I see BHO.  He listens to ideas cuz he has none of his own.  Why should he.  He's had no experience.  He's had plenty voting present and being absent.  There's nothing in his record that proves he has any leadership skills.  His best skill USED TO BE speaking (so I heard).  No chill, thrill or whatever ran up my leg listening to his inaug speech.  I REALLY was looking to be inspired.  So, what I think is he's a YES MAN.

Now Nancy Killefer has withdrawn her name because of tax problems..... ROFLMAO!  I read that on N.Y. Times..the newspaper that I don't read, but wanted to get some info from.  I think they're getting weary of Obama.  Too bad.  They worshipped and didn't vet.

Oh, but don't forget.  Obama has some repubs in his cabinet.  Big deal.

Okay, that's my opinion piece for the day.

Suz, don't you know docs never make mistakes.  My poor cousin was sick for years on and off.  Finally they found out it was her gallbladder.  No stones and I can't remember the dx.  They finally took it out and she's fine.  It may have been something like Sherri had.  Was it you, Sherri?  Can't remember.

    I'm talking to myself.

The repubs want to help people with housing in the stimulus package.  The also want interest down to 4% where EVERYONE can (not just the foreclosure people) take advantage of the 4% loans.  That would free up some money in people's pockets and help people going into foreclosures AND be fair to anyone who has been paying their mortages on time.  At least that's what I think I heard Lindsey Graham said.  LOL  Sounds good to me.  Just think how much money you could save if you could get your loans down to 4% if you had a loan at 7%.  But, what do I know!

    From N.Y. Times

Not the whole article. And this is peanuts compared to the other two.

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Nancy Killefer, who failed for a year and a half to pay employment taxes on household help, has withdrawn her candidacy to be the first chief performance officer for the federal government, the White House said Tuesday.

Killefer was the second major Obama administration nominee to withdraw and the third to have tax problems complicate their nomination after President Barack Obama announced their selection.

"Nancy Killefer has decided to withdraw her nomination, and we accepted her withdrawal," Tommy Vietor, a White House spokesman, said Tuesday. The 55-year-old executive with consulting giant McKinsey & Co., was expected to explain her reasons for pulling out later in the day.

When her selection was announced by Obama on Jan. 7, The Associated Press disclosed that in 2005 the District of Columbia government had filed a $946.69 tax lien on her home for failure to pay unemployment compensation tax on household help.

    Sherri,

It's not the States holding back, it's the banks themselves.  Some of which probably don't even know they own the property yet.  If they have loads of properties it takes them longer to get them out to market.  Too many of them, and they'll auction them off with auctioning firms.

What's good about the banks auctioning them off, they do the lending for the new owners.  It's a win, win.  The people get preapproved, the houses are moved quickly off the losing money side of the ledger on to the credit side.  The banks are the hold-up here.  Anyway, isn't it easier to beg us for money then to have to work for it by getting them on the market?

With lower interest rates it is being said that it would put an average of $450 in one's pocket.  Just think what one could do with $450!  As this senator says we need to fix the underlying "cancer" (I HATE THAT WORD!) that caused the problem.  Then cut taxes on small businesses.  I missed some of his/the repubs proposal.

Later today Chris Wallace is interviewing the prez.

Good for our repubs in the Congress for standing against this bill!  People are now seeing how flawed Pelosi's bill is.  Geez, get that idiot out of office!  And Reid too.  And Dodd too.  And Barney too.  And Rangel too!  I'm sure there's more.

Let's see.  I believe the repubs also do not mind using the stimulus money for infrastructure.  What I remember hearing (and who knows if I'm right) is that this money will not be used IMMEDIATELY.  If the package is called "stimulus" then we need "stimulating" now, not two years down the road!

The banks may be holding back putting homes on the market because of the price issue. The more houses that are up for sale - the prices go down - they are probably trying to wait until the prices start going up a bit.

Apparently there are some "shovel ready" infrastructure projects which could get started as soon as there is money for them. Payroll tax cuts would help too - put more money in people's pockets to spend. I like the 4% interest rate on housing idea. That would help a lot too. They just need to get all the unnecessary spending out of that bill.

He nominated Judd Gregg for Commerce Secretary - doubt he was really trying to be bipartisan - probably could not find a Democrat who had not cheated on their taxes.

The NYT is finally waking up - they are calling for Daschle to withdraw from nomination. WoooooooHoooooo!!!! Could the honeymoon be over?

So, are the banks holding back simply because of the time factor it takes to get them on the market? Or, are there other reasons?

I wonder if this could be the reason:

..."mortgages were so divied up on wall street banks can't find the original paperwork - people with foreclosures are being told to squatt - to NOT leave their homes. It's been named: Produce the Note strategy".

This is very interesting...check it out: http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/us/2009/01/30/griffin.mortgage.squatting.cnn?iref=videosearch

I am really piss** about the whole Wall Street thing...what a mess!

A short sale is better than a foreclosure.  According to my girlfriend who did this, she said she can buy again in 2 years whereas with a foreclosure it's adverse credit for 7 years.   I suppose though, with enough money down, job stability and no other bad credit, one could get a house if the loan to value was good enough before the 7 years were up.

Did anybody else get a letter from a Senator to sign a petiition to say no to this stimulus package?

I signed it and sent it!

    ------

Yesterday, the Senate began debate on an economic stimulus package that is intended to get our economy back on track and help Americans who are suffering through these difficult times. Unfortunately, the proposal on the table is big on the giveaways for the special interests and corporate high rollers, yet short on help for ordinary working Americans. I cannot and do not support the package on the table from the Democrats and the Obama Administration. Our country does not need just another spending bill, particularly not one that will load future generations with the burden of massive debt. We need a short term stimulus bill that will directly help people, create jobs, and provide a jolt to our economy.

I believe we need to evaluate every bit of spending in this stimulus proposal with one important criteria - does it really stimulate the economy and help create jobs - if the answer is no, it does not belong in a so-called stimulus package. Furthermore, the stimulus must include significant direct relief to American workers in the form of payroll tax cuts and programs to help homeowners keep their homes. Finally, we need an end game to this stimulus so that when our economy recovers, these spending programs do not remain permanent and saddle our children with a skyrocketing national debt.

I appreciate the discussions President Obama is having with my Republican colleagues, but the time for talking has come to an end and we must now begin some serious negotiation. But as of yet, Republicans have not been given the opportunity to be involved. The House of Representatives passed a stimulus bill without a single Republican supporting it. In the Senate, the Democrat leadership is trying to jam the existing proposal through regardless of reservations from a number of members. With so much at stake, the last thing we need is partisanship driving our attempts to turn the economy around.

I have long been a fighter against wasteful spending in Washington and long an advocate for a balanced budget -- that will never change. I realize we face extraordinary challenges with our economy today, but that is not an excuse for more irresponsibly from Washington. I hope you will join me in saying no to this stimulus package as it currently exists by signing this petition.

You know, letting the guy who is heading up the IRS get away with not paying taxes was a bad move, earlier  Yahoo news reported  that "Melanie Sloan, the executive director of Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, noted the Geithner nomination in saying she suspected tax problems would not prevent Daschle from becoming the next health secretary. "If the guy who is overseeing the IRS can get away with a tax problem, how are you going to hold up the health and human services secretary over taxes?" she asked."

Guess Tom D had a little less ego and more humility than Geithner.  I applaud him for not making us stomach this.  Has to take guts to just walk away.  If it's a case of someone not giving him a 1099 then it's not his fault ...  but these career pols should really hire some tax pros to scrutinize their finances.  Kind of like preachers are supposed to above reproach, I think that our law makers should be exemplary law keepers!!!

(disclaimer -- yes, I know preachers fall, we all do ... I am just saying what's supposed to happen and what the majority of law makers SHOULD aspire to be)
