Wow... just beautiful. Thanks so much for keeping this going. I know it's alot of work and time consuming. I'm happy to be a part of this. I love making people feel special and loved... especially in light of Deb's passing. It just reinforces our efforts. There I go again...tears...

    Morning All!

I love doing the squares - I carry my crochet everywhere and I'm always surprised at how much I can get done just waiting at the doc office, in line, when I'm a passenger in the car.  My only problem is I get bored with my patterns and am always searching through my tons of patterns for something new!  And I hate weaving in ends - so for me that is an act of love and I offer up prayers while I'm doing it!

    You are all so amazing!

oh me too !!! hate doing the tails and worse i always throw them in a big box after i make the squares then have to do dozens of tails .... Tongue out

speaking of patterns that lavender one in the last row of the second hugaghan looks very lovely  ! of course they all are wonderful and the finished product is an heirloom ...

The lavender one, I believe, is either the shell stitch or flying V pattern.   I have also included other pattern

Another interesting pattern would be to do double crochet, but instead of going through the front and back loop you only go through the back loop.   This makes a very pretty square and makes up fast.

    Finished size: 7" by 9"
.Hook: Size G crochet hook or size necessary to obtain gauge

    SHELL STITCH
Chain 31 for the foundation chain. (This stitch requires multiples of 6 chains plus 1.)
Row 1: Work 3 double crochets in the 4th chain from the hook. *Skip 2 chains. Single crochet in the next chain. Skip 2 chains, then work 5 double crochets in the next chain.* (You've created your first shell.) Repeat the sequence of stitches between the asterisks (*) across the row, ending with skipping 2 chains and 1 single crochet in the last chain. Chain 3 and turn your work.
Row 2: Work 3 double crochets in the 1st single crochet. *Work 1 single crochet in the center double crochet of the next shell, work 1 shell of 5 double crochets in the next single crochet.* Repeat the sequence of stitches between the asterisks (*). End with 1 single crochet on top of the turning chain. Chain 3 and turn your work.
Repeat Row 2 until piece measures 9".
    Fasten off.

    FLYING "V's"
Chain 33 for the foundation chain.
Row 1: Double crochet, chain 2 and single crochet in the 4th chain from the hook. *Skip 2 chains, then work 2 double crochets, chain 2 and single crochet in the next chain.* Repeat the sequence between the asterisks across the row, ending with 1 double crochet in the last chain. Chain 2 and turn.
Row 2: Work 2 double crochets, chain 2 and then work 1 single crochet stitch in the first chain 2 space of the previous row and in each chain 2 space across the row, ending with 1 double crochet in the last chain. Chain 2 and turn. Repeat Row 2 until piece measures 9".
    Fasten off.

    LITTLE SCALLOPS
Chain 33 for the foundation chain.
Row 1: Skip 2 chains, and double crochet into next chain. *Skip 2 chains and work 1 single crochet and 2 double crochets into the next chain.* Repeat the sequence of stitches between the asterisks until the last 3 chains. Skip 2 chains and single crochet into the last chain. Chain 1 and turn.
Row 2: Work 2 double crochets into the first stitch. *Skip 2 double crochets, then work a single crochet and 2 double crochets into the next single crochet.* Repeat the sequence between the asterisks until the last 3 stitches. Skip 2 double crochets and single crochet into the top of the turning chain. Chain 1 and turn.
Repeat Row 2 until piece measures 9".
    Fasten off.

    ALTERNATING HALF DOUBLE CROCHETS
Chain 31 for the foundation chain.
Row 1: Half double crochet into the 3rd chain from the hook, and into each chain across the row. Chain 2 and turn.
Row 2: Skip 1 stitch. *Work 1 half double in the back loop of the next stitch and 1 half double in the front loop of the next stitch.* Repeat the sequence between the asterisks, ending with 1 half double worked into the top of the turning chain. Chain 2 and turn. Repeat Row 2 until piece measures 9".
    Fasten off.

Very pretty, Madison. The red heart ones remind me that Valentine's day is coming soon!!!!!

I am looking forward to Puppy Bowl V on Animal Planet this weekend. This will be the 3rd one I spent knitting afghan squares with the puppies while hubby watches the football game in the basement.

I  really need to try some of these fancy square patterns!

But... in the meantime... I have some more squares... who needs them?

Also... this is awsome... this project has many "wings". My dear friend...who happens to be 81 yrs old - lost her hubby last year. She is quite sad and lonely. I have offered to go to her house one day a week and she and I will crochet squares and "talk" and have lunch together. She is so happy about this. And so am I... she is SOOOOOOOOOOOO wise and I love to learn from her. And I truly love her - so be prepared...lol we'll be creating lots of squares.

I was overwhelmed with the package I received the day of my implant surgery last Friday. A hugaghan was just what I needed. What an amazing, caring group of women! I feel surrounded by comfort in a way that is indescribable. Thank you so very much!

The picture is wonderful.  Thank you for sharing with us.

Your cat looks like a tortoise shell breed.   My veterinary daughter has two tortie cats.  She loves her torties.

    You have a beautiful smile.

    Hugs to you,

    Madison

Such beautiful afghans!!!  Thanks ladies for doing such an awesome job and spreading so much love.  Just picked up some knitting supplies and will try to make some squares.  I learned to knit when I was a child but hope to remember so I can contribute squares to this awesome project.

    Hi Girls -

Liz - per Madison in an earlier post... suggested I send my next batch to you - but that was last week - didn't get around to it had the flu... I can mail them out tomorrow ... just wanted to make sure that was still the case. I have 18 total... I could divide them or still send all of them to you. Just lemme know!

Thanks to all of you... it's great to make a difference in the life of someone who is going through a difficult time!

    Odalys - It's like riding a bike - lol

    Be well!

Laura.... not sure where Madison stands on squares.  I think we're about even right now.  Send them to whomever postage is cheaper.  How's that for an answer?  LOL

OD... can't wait to get some of your squares.

Thanks again for everyone's continued help.

    Hugs
