again short on time. Eddie.. the fact that u told Oprah about us made me weepy.

Rock, I am so glad u got there safe and fine.

I will read more later and tell my tale as promised. My high school student has quit and I have to make bath bombs today. I have not made them regularly for 3ish years. I used to love the meditative time of making dozens and dozens of batches ( it is a little like making cookies and sandcastles)

I would love to come make bath bombs for a day!

Wow, could you imagine us on Oprah? She would be so delighted with our group, all our crafty wit, careers and not to mention good looks, lol!

I over did it last night at the concert. I think I had four or five beers. My doctor said if I was to drink alcohol, limit it to three a month. Are you kidding me? Three a month or did he mean, three a week? He said they can't really tell what the safe amount would be, so just avoid it. I really like beer but I guess I can try my best to avoid it.

Me too, I wish I could help make bath bombs. They sound lovely...

Rock - also glad to hear you are on firm ground again.  I can't wait for the stories of your new adventure.  It is like getting the little chapters to read before the entire book comes out.  Just know that even when you are half way around the world, it seems like you could be sitting on my couch talking.  We will be there with you.  How warm is it there?

Kristy - I'm very impressed with your activity level.  I haven't done much lately and I don't have a good reason like surgery.  I'm glad you are feeling good.

Noelle - I'd love to help you, too.  I would probably get motivated if I had a cause.

We went out today.  It's amazing how warm 34 degrees is after the sub-zero days we had earlier.  Took 13 yo dd and friend to mall and out to lunch.  It was nice.

    Take care everyone,

    Julie

Roxi-I'm not a beer drinker, but I do like my wine!  (Haven't had any since April, but seriously thinking about it now!)  If you are allowed 3 beers a month and don't have any for say, 2 months, could you add it together and have 6?   Just a crazy thought from my chemobrain!!

Kristy-You are one tough woman!  And #1 in my book!  (All of you are!)

Rock-So glad that you are safe and sound!  I, like Julie, look forward to your stories.  You tell them like no one else can!

Noelle-I'd come help you make bath bombs.  We haven't had much luck with them, so we stick to making soap and lotions.  Speaking of, we haven't made any new soap in awhile.

Does Oprah do her show in Chicago?  DH's cousin just bought an apartment in the Trump Towers-I'm sure he'd let us use it.  (He is a cancer survivor.)

Guess who Obama is thinking about naming as ambassador to South Africa? Uh-huh, OPRAH.

Today I ran into otters on not one, but two occasions! (I posted photos on www.rockthebald.blogspot.com). Otters + the Oprah thing definitely points in the direction of good things happening.

By the way, women, I'm here to report that even though my hair is very very short, it somehow still can manage to look like crap and stand on end in a very "Hello, I am Janet Reno with a crew cut" unflattering kind of way. I am not actually sure that this beats being bald, because this looks deliberate.

My sister has a seat at the inuaguration and tickets to the Midwest Ball. Obama is supposed to make an appearance at the ball since this is his district.

Your photos are amazing! Otters are truly good luck. Is this the chinese year of the Otter?

    Hi Everyone,

Maybe you will start a new fashion trend over there Rock!

Im glad to hear the optimism for the new Presidency- I will admit to not being sold for either candidate this year and Obama was definitely not the popular choice down here in East Texas. It is definitely historic and will be interesting to see what happens in the next few years!

I started on the tax returns- now ours is my most complicated but I also have 3 kids with income so they have to file to get refunds, my moms taxes and my sisters taxes (Im the younger one but she is very dependent)- thank goodness for Turbo Tax and hopefully I will finish them while on medical leave so I dont have to deal with it afterwards.

Taking it easy today - went to dinner and walked around the grocery store last night (took the 12 year old to do all the picking up at the store) but it was still a little too much- pain kicked in pretty strong last night and had to take 2 darvocets to knock it out (usually just one at night) - all in all still doing well in my recovery. Made a lemon ice box pie for the potluck at church- so hubby would stay and I would have some alone time hehe

Rock, is that true about Oprah?? It can't be, can it? I could find myself confused about American politics soon lol! I haven't watched tv for two years come March. I used to watch the Jim Leherer News Hour (is that how you spell it?) every day at 5pm..loved it..so I'm not up on all the twists and turns any more. I'm about to go back to our old house and do some more cleaning up..very hard to get motivated.I mean, we have EVERYTHING we need here so...what is all that other crap for anyway?.......sigh......Mao right about capitalism and consumerism..........stuff, stuff and more stuff.  Kristy, I'm glad you can spend a little time in the kitchen still..what is lemon ice box pie? Sounds like something the boys in my life would love, and I have a huge, fully laden tree right outside my back door. Have a great day girls. XXX

Karin, it's just the flash reflecting off your gorgeous, shiny hair!

Rock, I'm glad you found otters (of any variety)--it's a sure sign of good luck, IMHO.  (Of course I would say that.)

For future reference:  If we really do get together, whether on the Oprah show or on Sue's porch, we need to be careful that we don't talk about Noelle's "bath bombs" while waiting in line to board the airplane.  :)

LOL @ Otter regarding "bath bombs"

    Oprah

Saw a couple of post about contacting Oprah. If they are not interested in our May group, was Breast Cancer.Org stressed in the contact letters? If not us, she should really do a show on the website. We KNOW how it got us through. Too many do not know about it and a show on it would help spread the good news. When it comes to having BC, this site is good news.

    LOL Otter!

Karin - You and I have the same hair!  Except mine is more gray.  It is coming in with FAR more gray than it left with.  I'm not liking that too much.  Congrats on figuring out how to style it.  I blew mine dry once a couple of weeks ago...POOF!  I had big hair.  Didn't make that mistake again.

My dog Wolfie stepped on my breast, it hurt so bad, it felt around, and found a lump.  About a month, prior to Wolfie's stomp, I had my second notice, for a mammogram, so I made the appointment.  My second mamo, was on March 17th, two days before my birthday.  The tech. giving me the mamo., let me look at the first exray, and I saw the cancer.  I went into the dressing room, and they had a poster, with "This is what breast cancer, looks like", and I knew. After a core tissue biopsy, on the 31st, I got the call, a message left on my cell phone, by a gyno. I had never even talked to before.  Weird, I pulled over, on a side road, next to a vineyard, with all these sheep, eating the weeds.  It was so beautiful, yet the worst news, "you got cancer"... Now after two lumpectomies, chemo. for 4mo., and 5 wks rads, five days a week, my radiologist, said I've done all can do, and right now, I have no evidence of disease.  On thurday, I had my last visit with my radiologist, 6wks after my last radiation appt.  He sat down, after he examined me, and talked for over 30 minutes, openly and honestly...He said, the best we can all do is life to the fullest, and not worry about, cancer returning.  No scans for me, I don't want to know, any sooner than I have to.

As Ms. Ellinoir says, out with 2000hate and in with 2000fine and No, I did not event think to link to BC.org....maybe someone else did? I am a goon. Goodnight. Ny hair is starting to get "messy." Love that.

    Hey, guess what, I'm back...kinda...

First, an apology to you all.  I started rads 2 weeks later then I was supposed to, and decided to take a complete break from bc until rads were done. NO posting, no talking about it, no blogging, no writing.  I finished up on 12/21 and then Christmas came and went...lol.

The day before New Years I got a cough, my MIL had had pneumonia for the past 2 weeks and was really sick, so that's what I thought I finally caught.  By the 7th, I was huffing and puffing just getting the mail.  Called the rad dr and he blew me off, didn't call, just let his nimrod nurse handle it saying try OTCs.  So, I went to my onc, they  did a chest Xray and my lungs were 1/3 fluid filled.  She thought it was pneumonia and put me on a Zpac and scheduled a CTscan for the 20th.

BY thurs. I was barely moving air and having coughing spasms.  went in, this time the chest showed less then 50% of my lungs were clear and my pulse was over 110. So my only option to get a Ct was to check myself in, which I did at 7 pm and ended up getting the CT at 3 am.

Here's the hard part, it showed lesions on both lungs, liver, spleen and 2 spots on my spine.  Nice huh?  They decided that I needed a lung tap to drain off the extra fluid and then test it.  They ended up taking over a liter from each of my lungs.  The right lung fluid was urine colored and had protein floating, and the next day when they did the left, it looked orangey.  Which they are now saying looks more like mets then an infection.  because of the holiday, I won't get the lab work back until Wed at the earliest. So, what do you think?

Me, I ended up staying 3 days in the hospital and cried thru 2 of them, then cried some more when I got home.  Crap, does this not suck ????

Now, I have a better handle on my chances after reading the Stage 4 boards, so I feel surpisingly optimistic. What really sucked was that my kids were in the room with me as he was merrily talking about cancer, my 10 year old looked like someone had hit her over the head woth a bat.  That night, my BP shot up to 200/125 and they wanted to know why...lol...gee I have no FUCKIN idea people....They endd up making me take a pill before I stroked out.

there you go, my update...now I have to go back 40 pages and catch up!!!!

For one thing, I cannot believe the fecking DIFFICULTY of being treated!!!! Remember..I nearly died from what started off as pneumonia this time last year... this is serious shit...you could have died just WAITING!!!! And to talk with your kids in the room?????Nah..that's all wrong. Oh ranD, I'm one for not worrying until it's time to worry so baby I am going to pray and pray that's it's just a shit-load of infection that has to be dealt with and some little spots that can be zapped off. I'm always, always here and I'm always, always praying for you. I love you..hang in there. XXX

    ranD,

I don't know what to say, other than I am so sorry you are having to go through this.  And that a$$hole doctor talking to you about cancer while your kids were in the room--I've heard it said before that "you can't fix stupid", but that story really bears it out.  Don't they train these people in this sh%t?

I am so so sorry and you are in my prayers (you were anyway) and I totally understand taking a break.  Damn.  Just, damn it all.

    Love you.

We've had flurries here for the past few days. At least the temps came back up to the upper teens/20's. Started my anti-deps .... waiting on the hotflashes to slow down or give up. I heard it takes up to 3 weeks for these to kick in. I've waited this long I guess I can wait a bit longer. I had noticed that I do have more energy the past few days. That's always a good thing.

Eddie~ maybe they will bring us all on and give us a BIG shopping trip and makeovers! I always liked to wish big LOL... and a big <squish> to help you along right now

RanD - so sorry to hear about your diagnosis.  We are just glad to hear from you and we will always be praying for you.  I'm glad you were able to take the needed time away from the boards and put it out of your mind for a little while.  We will go through whatever you go through.  Just let us help.

Karin - my hair looks like yours length and curl wise, but I have a big gray patch in the front that usually got people's attention before the shortness of it all.  I've had it since I was 25 and it doesn't cover very well.  When I had my head shaved there was this perfect circle on my head and I asked if it was a bald spot.  My hair dresser said that it was the gray spot - just looked bald.  I knew I should have used the gray sharpie to cover it up.

    Everyone have a nice Monday!

RanD - does it suck?  Yeah, royally sucks.  I am so sorry that you are having to deal with this shit.  What is up with the incompetence of the medical staff who aren't more aggressive in treatment when dealing with someone who has been battling breast cancer for the majority of this last fecking year?!  And yeah...HELLO??  There are kids in the room.  Where the FECK is your compassion?  Unbelievable.  You have been in all of our thoughts.  I think I can say we will all wrap our arms around you and hold you and do our best to comfort you.  We will always be here for you RanD.  Big warm hugs.
