Just got back from the onc and got the results of the latest PET scan...Great news ladies!
As you know, the original diagnosis showed cancer had spread in most if not all the nodes of the chest and supraclavical (collar bone) area as well as multiple (at least 7) lesions (tumors) in the liver - two of which were 8cm or larger. There was also some plural effusion and possible spinal lesions. Well... all of the cancer is GONE except for one small (2 cm) area in the liver!!!!! We are overjoyed (including the onc)! Dr. M said the response was way better than he had dared to hope for!
I will now go for two more cycles of abraxane/avastin (6 tx) the first of which I had today. After that we will rescan and decide on what if any further treatment is needed.
Have a great afternoon!

great news lori,
hugs to all!!
went and got a wig today, probably won't wear it, but just in case.
our local cancer services has a loner program and i found one that is almost like i already wear my hair, the lady who fitted me said it was the easiest fit she had ever done.
i really think i will wear hats and scarves most of the time.....
-
Wow - just noticed that there are four of us who are ER/PR neg and three of us are triple negs! Do you think that it's a North Carolina thing?
-
rsben - I bought a ton of hats and scarves, but once I got a wig that looked very similar to my real hair & style - it's all I wear. My onc told me that if someone didn't know me before my hairloss that they would not be able to tell that I had a wig on (he's a nice guy). In the beginning, I was very self conscience about it (felt like a big ole fake); now it's second nature for me to plop the wig on the ole noggin and go. You never know - your wig might become your best friend!
-
Lori,
FABULOUS NEWS!!!! I'm so happy for you!
((((HUGS)))

I noticed that about the triple negs and other negs as well! Interesting.
I bought a wig also and had a stylist friend style if for me, it looks better than my original hair but it itches me like crazy so I only wear it to church. Hats, turbans, scarves for me and this week I started going hatless (of course it's getting cold again so it will be back to hats to stay warm).
Lori
-
thanks for the extra motivation wink, i guess i may give the wig a try
looks like alot of negs in nc
here lately who knows how the weather will be you can go hatless one day and need the thickest one you have the next

Hey Wink,
Have a wonderful time!!! Lucky you, you get to escape the bitter cold temps that are forecasted later this week

-
have a great time wink.
hi all going to be cold at the end of the week stay warm.
since i'll be in all weekend anyway what a good time to start chemo, got my port yesterday, chemo friday.
-
Brrr! It was 4 degrees here on Friday morning and 8 degrees yesterday morning! Never got above freezing until this morning and now it's snowing and freezing rain. Yuk! I guess winter is rearing it's ugly head. Have had the wood stove roaring all weekend!
How are you faring with the cold?
-
ok just laying on the couch in frount of the fire, trying to rest.
listenin to hubby whin cause he has a cold
hope everyone is warm
-
So...how much snow did you get?
We got about an inch. It stuck to the roads really bad (couldn't see any of the lines) and gettting to town this morning for work was an adventure! I actually slid through one of the turns onto the highway. Luckily for me, no one else was dumb enough to be on that road at 8:30 this morning.
Coming home wasn't too bad though still encountered icy patches.Stay warm!
-
We had about an inch but Charlotte got smacked with plenty of snow. It is mostly gone this afternoon. Fortunately, I live about 1/2 mile from the office and only a couple of spots where the pine trees overhang the street were icy.

We're back! I told my dad that he really knew how to pick a time for a cruise! We had a wonderful time; saw some beautiful sights, but also saw a lot of poverty....made me feel sad, guilty, and most of all fortunate, even in these unstable economic times.
I don't have my land-legs back yet and it feels like I'm still on the ship - kind of disconcerting
.I hope that everyone stayed warm and suffered no ill effects from the ice & snow.
-
glad you had a good trip, wink
hope everyone is well
-
Welcome back Wink! Glad your trip was a good one!
-
Hi everyone,
Been quite a bit since I was here. Shelia and I live close together and have met twice.
Someone ask me earlier where Newland was located - close to Grandfather Mountain and not far from the eastern Tenn line. Elizabethton, Johnson City, Tenn is not that far away. Shelia and I are also about an hour from Asheville.
Wink, glad that you had a great trip. Lots of scary things on cruise ships lately.
Not sure if I mentioned when I first posted but I was ER/PR positive HER2-. We are in the mountians (Newland) and when we got here on Friday, no water. It was frozen from the very frigid temps last week. Got that going. We will be going back to Hickory later today.
I don't check in often, this site isn't quite the same as it was when I first joined. Wishing everyone the best - have a great week.

Hello all! I just found this thread and am so glad that I did. I live between Blairsville and Blue Ridge.
Great to meet all of you!
-
Welcome Kay,
Sorry you have to be here - but if you have to - it's a good place to be!
-
Hi Kay! Do you happen to go to Ga. Cancer Specialists in Blairsville?
-
Thanks Wink and bourscheid! It is nice to talk to neighbors! During chemo, I actually split my time between GA Cancer Specialists in Blairsville and their office in Atlanta. I see Dr. Janice Galleshaw at the Northside office because she is specializes in breast cancer and had seen two of my friends. I went to the Blairsville office for Neulasta and fluids, when I needed them. I love everyone in the Blairsville office. There were very kind to me.
I still make the trek to Alpharetta to get my herceptin every three weeks. It's a nice "get away" to the city, but I'll be glad when the need is over (I'll be finished in July).
Again, it is great to talk to neighbors!
-
I was actually at the Northside office yesterday and saw Dr. Red (sp). You're right about the Blairsville office. They are great there! Maybe I'll see you there someday!
-
I live in Woodstock, GA and go to GA Cancer Treatment Center in Canton, GA. I had a recurrance in 2001 and at that time had to go into Atlanta to their office, I saw Dr Laura Weakland. GA CTC has built several new offices since than and just when gas prices went so high last year I found the office in Canton - lots closer to me. I now see Dr Volas-Redd. I hated to leave Dr Weakland, but I do like Dr Volas-Redd.
Bourscheid: she must be the same one you see. She also sees patients at the office in Kennesaw, GA. She is the onc for my daughter's neighbor - a man in his late 40's who has a brain tumor and is now in hospice. So I think we can feel blessed that we are doing ok.
Casey-Doodle: do you see Dr Weakland when you go to Atlanta?
God bless!
Susan -
I actually saw a Dr. Redd at Northside north of Atlanta. The Dr. Redd I saw was a male. He was great and I really liked him even though he didn't do the biopsy. I respected him for knowing when to say "stop" and not try to be a hero. I usually see Dr. Manfredi in Blairsville, GA. Love that guy! Hope I never have to switch!
