    Guys, I was thinking maybe Golden Corral?...They havew a board room we can use that would fit all and it ia an all you can eat buffet.......LOTS of veggies!.......Let me know waht you all think....

    Nancy (pantafus) - how did your surgery go; please let us know as soon as you are able.

    NancyC - I love Hendersonville!  My mom and I were down there ~ 3 weeks ago; we wore ourselves out at Needful Things (antique mall).  Where are you at in your treatment?  Have you transferred to an onc?  I see Dr Messino, he is with Cancer Care of Western North Carolina.

    Mary Jo - we had one heck of a blow on Friday night!  We live on the top of a mountain and the wind sometimes sounds like a freight train.  The trees and flowers are spectacular! 

    I couldn't have picked a better family.  My picture is me with my brother in Charlotte playing Guitar Hero - we had a blast!  I spent the weekend with my parents in Candler and got to meet one of my first cousins (for the 1st time).  We had a wonderfully blessed Easter.

    Golden Corral is just off Ga 400 at exit 8 or 7 right by North Point Mall..........

    Wink what a beautiful picture!.....Mine is of my friends at Thanksgiving...My dh and dd were inthe garage when this was taken....I am on the right in red......

    Hi ladies!  I think the 23rd of May would be good for me.  I even know where Ga 400 is!  Are we talking a lunchtime get together?  I get really tired by evening and wouldn't be able to make that drive at night.  I am pretty good in the morning/afternoon, though.

    We had a heck of a storm on Friday also.  Were under a tornado warning for a while and had dime sized hail and tons of wind and rain.  Crazy!  All while we were trying to color Easter Eggs (yes, teenagers still like to color and hunt eggs - especially the plastic eggs with money in them!)

    Went and got tomato, zucchini, squash and lettuce to plant in whiskey barrels this week.  Got a bunch of flowers too.  I'm feeling ambitious this spring break!  Now for some sunny days so I can get them all planted!

    Nancy, hope your surgery went well.

    Hi,

    Glad I  found this thread and hope I can join in here. I live in Asheville and was recently diagnosed. For now, I've been enjoying the view/early signs of spring and gathering my wits to be ready  for surgery (lumpectomy) 4/23 in Durham. Will definitely have rads. and don't know yet about chemo....worried about that.  It is beautiful here and I love Asheville. We have a boat on the Chesapeake Bay....can't decide which landscape I love best. Will follow here to hear how Nancy is recovering....wishing her Godspeed.

    Hi all.  There was an article about me in the local paper today.  They got most of the facts right (although they left out how much support I get here and the fact that I'm stage IV and will fight this battle the rest of my life) and it is nice to get the word out there that we can fight this fight and still live our lives when we are feeling good.

    Sorry I won't be able to attend your get together, That Saturday we are celebrating my grandmother's 95th birthday with abour 40 family coming from Ohio.

    Hi Wink, Octobergrace, ladies,

    My surgery went very well and I just got the call about the path report.  No sign of cancer in the breast tissue removed or any of the 8 lymph nodes.  Yay!  I still don't regret having the mastectomy.  My mind is clear now.  Don't know if I'll still have to do chemo.  Guess I'll find out next week when I see the onc.

    Glad to hear from you in the Asheville/Hendersonville area.  They are my old stomping grounds.  I agree.  It's absolutely beautiful there.  Also have a very dear friend in Candler.

    Thank you for your well wishes.  I think I'll go and rest my arm but just wanted you to know I'm okay and am thinking of you all.

    Yes, I came home Tuesday.  Just stayed overnight.  Kind of feel like I've been hit by a truck today but I know it will get better.  Thank you for your good thoughts.  Your're a sweety!Smile

    Nancy, great news on the path report, that is what mine said but with the exception of additional ADH in both breasts.

    Help me out though.  What does ADH mean?  Sorry, I'm still ignorant of a lot of the terms.

    ADH is Atypical Ductal Hyperplaysia, pre-cancer for DCIS. I was dx once in 2005 on the left side with ADH, once in 2006 on the right side with ADH before my dx of DCIS on the right in 2007. Sometimes ADH doesn't show up on mammograms, I was one of the fortunate ones that it showed up as micro-calcifications.

    Nancy, I don't live in the western part of NC, I live just south of Boone and my niece worked with Lori for a couple of years at Hawassee.

    Nancy, So glad you're past surgery, home and that the path reports are good, especially clear nodes!

    I love how Donna simplifies things...I'm all for simplifying.  I'm not familiar with Otto, NC...where are you, Donna?  Based on the pic, I am thinking you play music....if so, what kind?

    Hi all!  It sounds like everyone is doing well.  Glad to hear you are doing well and have good path report, Nancy S!

    I've been really enjoying the spring weather!  Got outside and planted flowers and a whiskey barrel vegetable garden - no tilling required  Wink!  Took my class to the creek in the front of the school for a science lesson today (erosion, etc) and it was so beautiful we stayed for an hour!  Had to get them to help pull me back up the hill, though!  We had fun!

    Lori, my parents are going to grow radishes in the old washtub outside their back door. Dad dearly loves fresh radishes as a snack and they don't run his blood sugar up. They also usually grow some tomatoes next to their sun porch. The used to have a large garden but age and illness has slowed them (dad) down.

    Hi Molly - Otto is just south of Franklin.  My parents live in Candler, so I'm over there several times a month.  I'm playing Guitar Hero with my brother in Charlotte...lol...my mother thought it was funny and snapped this photo of us. I'm a Clinical Laboratory Scientist and work at Angel Medical Center in Franklin.  Who's your onc?  I see Dr Messino with Cancer Care of Western NC.  Take a look at my profile - it's warm & wonderful!  Tomorrow will be my one year reunion.Laughing

    Hi Donna,  Oh what a great story...at times, it must have seemed exquisitely bittersweet in the face of being diagnosed with bc.  Congrats on your one year reunion...and now  listen to this (there are no accidents).  I have no bio children and fostered girls for 12+ yrs....raised two sisters from ages 3 and 5...now 21 and 23 and they stay in contact  almost daily.  They reunified with their bio family a few years ago.  Even though their family is not cohesive and supportive like yours, those relationships have made a big difference in their lives. I tell them the more love they have in their lives, the bigger their world becomes. Then, I married 3 yrs. ago - to a quiet, retired DC attorney/marina owner.  So this has been a whole new world for him too...so much fun and now so bittersweet in the face of my diagnosis.

    I love the Franklin area...used to go thru on the way to Atlanta/Florida panhandle and occasionally we ride over to Dillsboro to eat at Jarrett House. My brother graduated from Western Carolina and lives in W. Asheville....don't know what I'd do without him! :) I love the picture of you and your brother. 

    Re docs, I'm just home from surgery at Duke. Lumpectomy and sentinel node removal....but then nodes were positive so my PS removed all nodes and I'm waiting for the full path report..all indications were the nodes were clear so that has been a real curve to me and surgeon.  My medical onc is Dr. Gary Lyman at Duke; I see him next Thurs. and  I'll get the tx. plan then.

    This is my 1st post here since my surgery so Hi to everybody.  Lori and Sheila, we ARE blessed to be in WNC in springtime, right? Lori, I really enjoyed the article on you. It's clear that you are a  natural at teaching....and much loved by the kids.

    Wink - my daughter (a hs sophomore) is very interested in Clinical Laboratory Science.  Any suggestions for her?  She already took Med. Terminology 1 and 2 this semester through SW comm. college and absolutely loved it!

    Molly and Shiela - thanks.  I don't think I could handle not being able to teach.right now.  That and my family are what keep me so positive.

    I am in Savannah, GA. We were suppose to move to Huntsville, AL. July 1st for my DH's work...but, I may need to stay behind with the kids until I have more info. about what treatments I will need. 

    It is nice to meet you all, I hope it is okay I jumped in.

    Hi Lori - I'm sorry that I'm so long in getting back to your question.  Western just did away with their Laboratory Technology program - there are some community colleges/technical schools that offer a 2 year program for Medical Technician.  Some high schools allow students interested in medical careers to shadow employees at their local hospital.  I'm coming up on 30 years in the profession; it's a dynamic field as new tests are always being developed.

    Posted on the Stage IV list but wanted you ladies to know...I am dancing with NED!  Just got scan results back by phone (onc is on vacation and told nurse to call me). There was no evidence of disease in either the chest or abdomen area!  Have to finish  this round of xeloda then after that I meet with onc on 26th for next step.  Miracles do happen!
