I was 51 & I found the cancer myself on the same day I had a digital mamo and Physician manual breast exam!  He told me I was clear and good to go for another year!!!  I found a new surgeon, had a biopsy w/ bilateral mastectomy within the week!  How quickly life changes!

I am 47. Found out 9 weeks ago had a lumpectamy then unfortunately have infection set in have to have two abcesses drawn twice weekly. I start Radium next week 30 hits, then they will deceided if I will have chemo. I have had chemo twice before so ready for the impact. Thou the chemo was for non cancerous brain tumors at 23 and 38 to shrink them.

But I feel lucky have great hubby and 4 daughters and 3 grand kids so what else could you want.

No family history, no lump second opinion after mamogram and scan, they were going to leave another year, it is already invasive so I do not wish to think where I would have been in 12 months. They did a biopsy two years ago and said nothing but now said the cells had changed I am so lucky.

I wish you all good luck and peace.

It is amazing how many young women are diagnosed and here in the UK they don't start with regular mammos until you are 50 (although I hear that is about to change).  I was 47.

    49. Lump popped up the day after I ovulated 11/05 - woke up with pain in my upper arm and, for some unknown reason thought, "breast pain". Never had it before...didn't think much of it. That night found a lump under my arm bathing and then went upstairs and looked in the mirror and there was this big honkin' lump on the side of my breast. Had a mammo scheduled for the next week. They said nothing seen. It went away when my period came and surgeon said don't worry. I still worried but went with it. It came back with my ovulation in January, had the ultrasound on 2/10 and got the results 2/15.  Went thru chemo and had mastectomy 4 days after my 50th birthday. 52-1/2 now. (I still like the 1/2's!)

55, felt a lump several months ago,  but can't clearly remember when it dawned on me that this should be looked at. Dx'd Dec. 16, still in diagnostic phase and having node surgery Wednesday. My sister who is two years older than me, is a breast cancer survivor who was diagnosed in 1989

48, dx Jun/07, found the lump myself.  Had neoadjuvant A/C chemo July to Sept 2007, unilat skin sparing mast with expander in Nov 2007, emergency surgery to replace expander in December 2007, Taxol and Herceptin from Jan to April 2008, radiation and Herceptin from April to June 2008.  All cancer treatment stopped at that point. I have congestive heart failure from the Herceptin. I have permanent nerve damage in my legs from Taxol and I just started treatment for that with Methadone.

I was 59.5. The tumor was clearly there on the previous year's films, as others have said theirs were, too.  But, my surgeon said it's easy on hindsight to make that diagnosis. Also, once I knew about the tumor, I could easily feel it myself, so if I'd been more vigilant with BSEs, I would probably have found it earlier myself.

I am planning to have future mamms done at a different facility, though, and read by different radiologists.

It's horrible to have BC at any age, but I, too, feel sad to see so many young women (20s, 30s, and 40s) posting here. I wonder if that's because younger women tend to use the Internet more than those of us pushing 60 and above.

I was 43 in Feb 2008 when I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. I had needle aspiration biopsy- safer to prevent spread- April 15th, 208 was my surgery. Chemo started in June 2008 and just ended Dec 30th- still on Herceptin a biological therapy/ 30 min infusion- will be on it every 3 weeks until October 2009.

I turned 44 Sept. 25th 2009- Had a chemo Birthday- Christmas and New Years! yuk. I am preparing for my radiation now-just had a CT today- they put markers on my chest to check the margins they will use before radiation- next week they will check again another chest x-ray- then yet another in about 3 weeks as well- they say radiation will start about the 2nd week of e Feb 2009.

I am cancer free after surgery- will take another mamo in Feb 09 as well. Still thin hardly any hair on my head- mostly ugly Grey now--trying not to think about it- just wear the wig. It's a nice one though- people don't know it's a wig!

Wishing you well- and cancer free forever!
