The Respectfully Republican Conversation

I'll give you extra credit for originality. Comparing me to a wife-beater because I took legitimate offense at racist and bigoted statements is an extraordinary leap.
On the merits, however, I am not going to back down.
-
ok ladies, so that you know some of us are getting banned from this thread by the other
-----> thread members. I was amazed that they can't even stand us having discussions here. WHat's going on with them? With all their wohoo and euphoria, they seem to be rather rattled.
It seems that the CHANGE they talk about is silencing the opposition. How pathetic!!!!
Sherri you gave them too much credit when you called them "attack dogs". With attack dogs you can see them coming straight at you so you have a fighting chance. But that bunch of cowards is hiding behind some automated software afraid to stand up and fight.
-
Donna, you seem in the mood to do combat. I don't. you and the ladies on this forum have been well tested in their fight with a disease that destroys more than any other. I would suggest more a battle of wit and satire. I am sure that in the mensa club you represent on the other thread you could find someone with a rapier wit to demoralize us poor republicans. I hope we would be able to respond with a well placed "oh yeah, or that goes double to you" and we could all end up with a laugh and be friends.

~~~Looking for my rapier~~~
IBC, such wonderful news after a day of .....oh, yes, there was another Miracle!
-
Yeah Daf, It was a great day. In spite of some minor annoyances we saw America at it's best in NYC, and God's hand in it all. And to top it off, the good news about Cam. I am going to bed with a big smile on my face and lots of heartfelt thanks to God for these blessings. Sweet dreams to you ALL.
-
And some think we are the only ones who call him Messiah ....
-
And we can thank God that Cam is NED !!!!!!!
-
Thank all of you for yours thoughts for Cam, and as always, I am the lucky one. Sherri, never take anyones word for what kind of friend I am, decide for yourself because I consider you a good friend.
-
Sherri, it is 10 degrees at the moment.
forecast:
Partly cloudy. Highs in the mid 30s and lows in the mid 20s.
Non-life-threatening, but chilly! of course, our weather is peripatetic at best!
-
Remember the Movie .....Miracle on 34th Street ..
well......like vivre said to me ...... we had some miracles today: NY and Cam!
-
Rock, some day I am gonna have to get you to tease Cam into posting. I need to retire an let her take over.
-
tease........well, i think that we know someone who is better at teasing than me!!!
xoxoxo
Isn't everyone conversational this morning! I thought the President's speech was gracious, thoughtful, kind, and determined. "If America does not lead the cause of freedom, that cause will not be led."
How about what's happens here, stays here? Speaking respectfully.......
Feeling resigned or maybe realistic~~~~
There comes a point in your life when you realize:
Who matters,
Who never did,
Who won't anymore...
And who always will.
So, don't worry about people from your past; there's a reason why they didn't make it to your future. -
Wow, away for a few hours and look what all got posted! People, there isn't one president on the planet that is going to be popular for EVERY thing that they did, so get over it. Yup, Mr. Obama will be a part of t
The next president has a real tough job ahead of him. Is a democrat fit to be president now?
Here are some of the major necessary jobs that the next president MUST accomplish.
1. Accomplish true Energy Independence even export ability.
2. Take out Iran's nuclear program.
3. Secure the border and deport 30 million illegals.
4. Find and detain the likely 10,000 + foreign jihadists in U.S.
5. Declare islam a political party and not a religion in the US
6. Aggresively destroy Al Qaeda throughout the world.
7. Aggresively go after nation states sponsoring terrorism
8. Nuclear proliferation of both North Korea and Pakistan.
9. All the while lowering taxes to maintain a strong economy.
I can not see a democrat fullfilling even ONE of these vital and necessary goals that America must complete in order to survive and thrive as a super power!
What do you think?- 1 year ago
Additional Details
1 year ago
First of all: We can become energy independent in 1 year. The facilities needed to produce the additional energy take approx. 9-12 months to construct. Cap'n collector if you think it takes 30 years YOU are stupid!
1 year ago
Second of all: to all of you ignorant people who think it was a republican that created these problems you are very uninformed, al qaeda attacked us 5 major times while bill clinton was president. And he did not retaliate he tried to negotiate he backed the KLA which was a al qaeda sponsored war and he destroyed bin ladens enemy and our long time ally serbia. In an effort to appease the muslim world.
Did it work?? No, the terrorist did 9/11 shortly afterwards. They neither feared nor respected clinton how much less will they fear his wife? -
I found this info on the web.
-
Actually Summer, I wouldn't put those as my list ....
1. economy
2. energy
3. separation of religion and government
4. end affirmative action, racism and affirmative action
5. cure cancer!
-
The way I see it racism is not an issue...curing cancer is, fixing the economy is..diverting our energy use to more efficient energy use for the good of all, and yes, government must find a place in religion (it has been practiced in history and failed miserably).
I'm just sayin'....
from www.mensa.org:
What is Mensa?
Mensa was founded in England in 1946 by Roland Berrill, a barrister, and Dr. Lance Ware, a scientist and lawyer. They had the idea of forming a society for bright people, the only qualification for membership of which was a high IQ. The original aims were, as they are today, to create a society that is non-political and free from all racial or religious distinctions. The society welcomes people from every walk of life whose IQ is in the top 2% of the population, with the objective of enjoying each other's company and participating in a wide range of social and cultural activities.
What are Mensa's goals?
Mensa has three stated purposes: to identify and foster human intelligence for the benefit of humanity, to encourage research in the nature, characteristics and uses of intelligence, and to promote stimulating intellectual and social opportunities for its members.
How many members does Mensa have?
Today there are some 100,000 Mensans in 100 countries throughout the world. There are active Mensa organizations in over 40 countries on every continent except Antarctica. Membership numbers are also available for specific National Groups.
What kind of people are Members of Mensa?
There is simply no one prevailing characteristic of Mensa members other than high IQ. There are Mensans for whom Mensa provides a sense of family, and others for whom it is a casual social activity. There have been many marriages made in Mensa, but for many people, it is simply a stimulating opportunity for the mind. Most Mensans have a good sense of humor, and they like to talk. And, usually, they have a lot to say.
Mensans range in age from 4 to 94, but most are between 20 and 60. In education they range from preschoolers to high school dropouts to people with multiple doctorates. There are Mensans on welfare and Mensans who are millionaires. As far as occupations, the range is staggering. Mensa has professors and truck drivers, scientists and firefighters, computer programmers and farmers, artists, military people, musicians, laborers, police officers, glassblowers--the diverse list goes on and on. There are famous Mensans and prize-winning Mensans, but there are many whose names you wouldn't know.
What does "Mensa" mean?
The word "Mensa" means "table" in Latin. The name stands for a round-table society, where race, color, creed, national origin, age, politics, educational or social background are irrelevant.
What opinions does Mensa have?
Mensa takes no stand on politics, religion or social issues. Mensa has members from so many different countries and cultures with differing points of view, that for Mensa to espouse a particular point of view would go against its role as a forum for all points of view. Of course, individual Mensa members often have strong opinions--and several of them. It is said that in a room with 12 Mensans you will find at least 13 differing opinions on any given subject.
How do I qualify for Mensa?
Membership in Mensa is open to persons who have attained a score within the upper two percent of the general population on an approved intelligence test that has been properly administered and supervised. There is no other qualification or disqualification for membership eligibility.
The term "IQ score" is widely used but poorly defined. There are a large number of tests with different scales. The result on one test of 132 can be the same as a score 148 on another test. Some intelligence tests don't use IQ scores at all. Mensa has set a percentile as cutoff to avoid this confusion. Candidates for membership in Mensa must achieve a score at or above the 98th percentile on a standard test of intelligence (a score that is greater than or equal to that achieved by 98 percent of the general population taking the test).
Generally, there are two ways to prove that you qualify for Mensa: either take the Mensa test, or submit a qualifying test score from another test. There are a large number of intelligence tests that are "approved". More information on whether a test you have taken is approved, as well as information on the procedure for taking the Mensa test, can be obtained from the nearest Mensa office. There are no on-line tests that can be used for admission to Mensa. Feel free to contact Mensa for specific details about eligibility.
Mensa has no other eligibility requirements other than IQ testing. However, many tests are not valid for people under the age of 16. You should contact the nearest Mensa office for more information.
How do I get proof of my previous test scores?
Contact the testing service that administered the test to you requesting that they send you a report showing your score. Include as much information as you can about yourself and regarding when and where you were tested. If you can't give an exact answer, an approximation is better than nothing. Many testing services charge a fee for sending reports; you should give the service a call before writing them.
If your school did testing, write to the school you attended, and ask for a CERTIFIED copy of your score. It must include your birth date, the name of the test, and a clearly defined number, i.e., IQ, or percentile rank nationally. Mensa does not accept achievement tests. The school seal must be stamped on the report.
For psychologist/agency testing, have the report sent on professional letterhead, with the psychologist's or agency's license or registration number. Mensa accepts tests given only by those people qualified to do testing privately in the area in which the examiner resides. Date of test, name of test, and full score must be given, and the report must be signed.
Any signature-guaranteed or notarized copy of any of the reports will be accepted, other non-verifiable copies may be rejected.
Is there a Mensa test?
If you've never taken an IQ test, or don't want to bother with getting official copies of your test scores, then Mensa can test you. You will be put in contact with the local testing coordinator who will tell you about specific testing dates and places.
In some countries, a pre-test is available which you can take in the privacy of your home. To find out whether such a test is available in your country, please see National Groups. When you've finished the pre-test, send it back to the address instructed. It will be scored, and you will be notified of the results. If your score is high enough, you'll be invited to take a qualifying supervised test. The pre-test is just for practice; you can't use it to qualify for Mensa even if you score at or above the 98th percentile. Taking a pre-test is not required for admission, however, many people take it simply for the challenge.
Feel free to contact Mensa for more information or to arrange testing. More specific information is also available about testing costs for any of the National Groups.
If you want to take a practice, on-line test, the Mensa Workout is an intelligence quiz in which you have half an hour to answer 30 questions. When you submit your answers, your test is instantly scored, and you can see how your score measures up. The answers to the questions are provided along with discussion of the answers. The Workout is not an IQ test, and can't be used for qualification to join Mensa.
Carry on...
Behind the proud walls of the White House, George and Laura Bush have embarked on a week of "lasts." Monday he held his last press conference. They are spending their last nights sleeping in the corner bedroom as President and First Lady.
Over time Bush will get one grade from history, right now expected to be a poor grade, but he could well get an "A" for handling the transition. It was his idea to integrate the incoming Obama staff as much as possible before January 20, with some of them already reporting to work at the White House, learning how the machine operates. It's unprecedented.
Also unprecedented was the lunch he hosted for former Presidents, which actually went very well and should become a regular event. Who else do they have to talk to the way they can talk to each other?
The President and First Lady are using these last days to say good-bye and thank you. The farewells usually are small receptions, but there have been a lot of one-on-one moments, too, between the Bushes and staff, many who had their last day on the job this past Friday.
Over the next few days the offices will be re-carpeted, re-painted, computers re-wired, and other maintenance done in preparation for the new crowd. Last but not least are the household staff, the butlers and housekeepers and cooks and military aides, who may spend the most face time with the first couple behind the scenes.
They are excited about the Obamas, but they love the Bushes, who went out of their way to be considerate about holidays, family time and other personal needs.
We never see this side of the Bushes, and it might not change public opinion even if we did, but it is the side that prompts those close to them to say, "If you only knew..."Carol Joynt in NYSD 1/13/09
I'm happy to read we're all full of good news here today. What a difference a day makes. I know it's early, but I had to have a small piece of chocolate to celebrate with you all who are celebrating.
I see the drama queens were here late into the evening, trying to continually stir things up here. Their board must be boring them to tears, so over here they come.
I have to go back to a post that I think Vivre was the author of. Off topic, but we do that also.
Vivre, where did you get your stats about 40% of us on Arimidex don't respond to the drug? Why I ask, I read the original studies and the reason why they don't test us for the amount of estrogen in our bodies is because all the women in the original study responded very well with low percentages of estrogen. Arimidex does not get the percentages as low as another drug, the name escapes me, but it is pretty low.
So is this new news about 40% of us not responding to Arimidex? Tomoxifen has that problem of non responding and there is a test for that. I too never had any side effects from the drug but I do see some changes to my body that weren't there before, small things, so I know it's working for me.
When I see women ready to fight about anything, I think that's because our estrogen is so low, it gives our testosterone a chance to rear its argumentative head. That would be another study.
-
Wow where do I start?
Summer and Rock, I agree with BOTH lists. If Obama does all that, I will be bowing down to him and even vote for his reelection. I just wish I had faith that he can even accomplish one.
BadBoob, thanks for the definition of Mensa. I guess I do not qualify. I am way to opionated! LOL
Daff, thanks for the info about the Bushs. It made me emotional. It must have been so tough for them to put up with all the crap from the left and the press. But I know they will leave the White House with their heads held high because they acted in the best interests of the country. Millions of women in Africa and the MidEast now have a better life because of their decisions, perserverence, and dreams of making a better world. We may not be there yet, but in time, the seeds they have sown will take root and the world will see that they were the real Hope and Change. They have given hope to people who once had none, and they have changed the face of the world. That face is not smiling yet, but it will one day. As an avid Lincoln fan, I have read so much how much he was vilified for "starting such a terrible war". Every day, thousands of Americans died in the civil war. What is ever worse that brother fighting brother? But because of his dream for a better America, we got rid of slavery and the union was saved. THe middle east in now in the midst of their own civil war. Brother against brother. Radical Islam against peaceful believers of all faiths. Good will prevail over evil. It will just take time.
Rosemary, I cannot remember where I read that stat, but I will look for it. Also, as we age, all our hormone levels drop, including testosterone and progesterone. The reason we get bc is because we become estrogen dominant because our other hormones get so low. One concern that I am looking into now is that my progesterone is so low. Even though I have lowered my estrogens significantly, my P is also really low. There is so much great research going on now on the importance of balancing hormones and that all the problems with aging stem from the hormone depletion as we age. This is going to be the wave of the future for understanding disease. It is very exciting. Go over to the I Quit forum where we have been discussing this.
-
Viv...you are talking about the estrogen fed cancers? Could you post a list of what supplements you take as well as what you are eating/not eating since your diagnosis? In other words I am interested in your health regime!
Rosemary...yes the drama queens have left...my personal opinion is it was started to shut down this thread because they disagree and maybe disagree is the wrong word, maybe the right word is this thread does not fit what they think is correct. It is amazing that some people cannot see they do the same things they accuse others of doing, judging, name calling, baiting, bullying, attacking but because they do it in the name of what they think is right, it is OK...absolutely amazing! And the best part is blaming their drama on the boards having a "report this post button" and the mods being biased and unfair, so they take it upon themselves to right the perceived wrong! But see, here we go again, unfair by whose standards? Talk about transference...that's a stretch! Everyone wears blinders even the ones who think they don't, in fact the ones who think they don't are probably more dangerous than the others.
-
Posts were deleted that were not in violation of the rules ... I have copies..., it was just a spiteful attack, planned is the word.
Oh well . ... I didn't set up shrines to rock idols in high school and I certainly wouldn't be setting one up for the president at my age .. heck, I won't even buy the paper his picture is printed on. Frankly, I don't think he is even a handsome man. Great chest, but ugly face.
-
Speaking of the tamoxifen test, I got upset with M.D. Anderson over that test. I read that a lady said they didn't offer that test to her there. I support Anderson's research with my money. So I called them up to see if they did offer it. They actually checked it out and said no they don't. And I said my money will go elsewhere then. There is no excuse for that. Can you only imagine being on a drug that actually isn't working for you and a simple test would expose that problem? These drugs have side effects that some women would not be exposed to if they just did the simple test. Anyway, I feel better now that I ranted for a bit.
Vivre, if you do run across that info on Arimidex, please let us know.
I saw a program last night which showed a lot of the Whitehouse. The US really has a treasure there, with all the antiques and art work. It really is unique.
Yes the new Prez really does have a tough job ahead of him. I have no doubt he will run the country well. I mean I think this man really is going to put 100% of himself into being the President. I believe he is a really nice person. Look at his daughters, these two little girls look like very healthy, happy, well adjusted children, and that doesn't happen just by accident (and of course Michelle had something to do with that too).
I do get a little tired of hearing Bush get blamed for everything though.
The whole Mensa thing.
To begin with, I am not nor have I ever claimed to be the brightest bulb on the tree. Also, after the 60's I was able to apply for and receive a state designation for my skull as an approved cemetery for dead brain cells. I did have a knack for standardize test. In high school one other person and I were called to the superintendent's office. He wanted us to apply for mensa, he thought it would reflect well on the school system. I had scored 148 on IQ test. Again, I'm not that smart, any standardize test just seems to have a rhythm to them and I had a good memory. I informed the man, something to the fact that I was right at 6 foot tall, weighed 135 pounds, wore thick glasses and had name of Herbie. I had already fought the entire football team and didn't won't to go through the nerd wars again.
What that did do to me was confirm in my own mind that I was a member of the intelligentsia..I read Russian lit, old European philosophers and would spend hours during my 'hippie' days in the Quarter in N O, solving the problems of the world on a metaphysical plane. In other words getting stoned and doing mental masturbation. Spewing useless words and accomplishing nothing.
It is only in reflection, that I now know, the average IQs which I looked down my nose at are the ones that have accomplished so much. One of my classmates that always got great grades, but I thought limited in intelligence, became one the great research breast oncologist. He helped develop the criteria of breast saving surgery, gene research, and taxol trials. He worked his self into an early heart attack and stroke and now lives in managed care. His ability to focus on the details, to have the will to spend minutes, hours days years and decades to prove or disprove theories makes him a thousand time smarter than I would ever be.
The bottom line is a test to check knowledge in far more reliable than test such as IQ test that measures potential. I will never question the intelligence of someone else, just their use of it.
Rosemary, I am still looking for it. I will tell you as soon as I find it.
