Obama friends--- for your entertainment purposes, I present to you--- 2throw a shoe at bush gamea --- it's a riot especially when you hit him. http://www.adgame.de/bush-ego-shoeter/ (I like this better) http://www.aksalser.com/game.htm . I recommend playing it during bush's lame duck speech tonight. For those who are able to hold their alcohol, every time during the speech Bush lies, take a swig-- for those who aren't, you better stick with soda because there's gonna be a lot of bull flying around.

I didn't have a problem with DADT, but I really wish it had been DCAMYOB - that would be don't care and mind your own business. I don't want one world religion, I don't want any religion. It's led to some great art and architecture, but a whole lot of grief.
Try to imagine how much better the world would be if we all stopped caring what others were doing with their genitals and what version of some super power they were choosing to follow. I think it would be a lot more pleasant.
Has anybody heard of the English bus posters saying something like "There probably isn't any God so enjoy your life and don't worry"? That makes sense to me.
-
The problem with DADT was that LGBT people had to hide part of who they were. The couldn't talk about their dates, partners or spouses, because that would be "telling" that they were gay. They live(d) in fear of being found out. Some people went on a witch hunts trying to ferret out gays and suspected gays, which wasn't in the spirit of DADT. Good soldiers were kicked out from the armed services, many who had specilized skills because of their sexuality. The army leadership perpetuates the fallacy that gays won't be able to contain themselves, if in tight corners, from each other and their heterosexual counterparts.
I can just see if the USA tried to put some of those signs on their buses. Holy rollers would be up in arms calling for the head of the people who put the signs up. Rush Hatebaugh, Ann Coultergiest will call up fred phelps and company to start riots. LOL. This all goes back to the fear thing you guys were talking about yesterday.
I really wish that Obama had decided to keep religion out of the inauguration, even though I'm glad Gene Robinson is opening up the official inauguration. I haven't heard anything about Jews and Muslims being included in the religious parts of the inaug or the respect shown at the DNC saying those who chose to pray can do so, to include atheists.. Even though Obama is taking the oath, this is about our country's leadership and the citizens as much as it is Obama.
Good news, the Bush lies tonight should only be 12-13 minutes.

President-elect Obama wrote a beautiful open letter to his daughters:
Parade Magazine has posted an open letter written by Barack Obama to his daughters Sasha and Malia. Here are a few excerpts; the full letter is available at Parade.com, and the print version will be in the January 18th issue.
Dear Malia and Sasha,
I know that you've both had a lot of fun these last two years on the campaign trail, going to picnics and parades and state fairs, eating all sorts of junk food your mother and I probably shouldn't have let you have. But I also know that it hasn't always been easy for you and Mom, and that as excited as you both are about that new puppy, it doesn't make up for all the time we've been apart. I know how much I've missed these past two years, and today I want to tell you a little more about why I decided to take our family on this journey. When I was a young man, I thought life was all about me--about how I'd make my way in the world, become successful, and get the things I want. But then the two of you came into my world with all your curiosity and mischief and those smiles that never fail to fill my heart and light up my day. And suddenly, all my big plans for myself didn't seem so important anymore. I soon found that the greatest joy in my life was the joy I saw in yours. And I realized that my own life wouldn't count for much unless I was able to ensure that you had every opportunity for happiness and fulfillment in yours. In the end, girls, that's why I ran for President: because of what I want for you and for every child in this nation.
He then goes on to address education, the environment, war, and the lessons their grandmother -- his mother, Ann Dunham -- taught him.
She helped me understand that America is great not because it is perfect but because it can always be made better--and that the unfinished work of perfecting our union falls to each of us. It's a charge we pass on to our children, coming closer with each new generation to what we know America should be.
He concludes by echoing the message in his victory speech on November 4th.I am so proud of both of you. I love you more than you can ever know. And I am grateful every day for your patience, poise, grace, and humor as we prepare to start our new life together in the White House.
-
What a gorgeous letter. Thanks for posting it. His grandmother was obviously an amazing woman. I heard he's doing a tribute to her during the inaugural week festivities. And what's great is that Obama is putting her thoughts into action by using his grassroots political organization to get people to volunteer and serve. Are any of you participating in the Day of Service this holiday weekend? I'm going to scrounge up some blankets and sweaters to donate to a homeless shelter after our Double Happiness parade.
Glad that Eric Holder declared waterboarding as torture during his confirmation hearing this morning and said no one, including the pres, is above the law. Based on what Obama has said, I don't think there's going to be criminal prosecution, but there will probably be a commission and an investigation. It won't lead to anything but public exposure, of course, but it's better than brushing it all under the rug.
-
lap - i really liked that letter too... very sweet. i am doing some trail clean up in a local park on monday, the donation idea is a good one, i have been cleaning out this past week and will be making one too.
more change is coming..........today:
The Senate voted 72-23 to proceed to the so-called Lilly Ledbetter bill that would reverse a Supreme Court ruling that put time limits on when a person can seek redress for wage discrimination. The bill, which faced a veto threat from President George W. Bush, has the strong backing of Obama, and is likely to be the groundbreaking pro-worker rights act of his young administration.

wooooooooooooooohooooooooooo................ change is coming..............

Palin to be No Show at Obama's Dinner for McCain
On the night before Barack Obama is sworn in as the nation's 44th President, his inaugural committee will host a series of dinners honoring public servants it deems champions of bipartisanship. To be feted are Vice President-elect Joe Biden, Colin Powell, and John McCain, whom Obama vanquished last November.
At the McCain dinner, the GOP senator, who managed to suppress his bipartisan tendencies during the hard-fought 2008 campaign, will be introduced by one of his closest Senate confidants: Senator Lindsey Graham. But McCain's No. 1 booster during the last year will not be among those hailing McCain. Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, his controversial running-mate, will not attend the dinner, Bill McAllister, a Palin spokesman tells Mother Jones.
-
Good news about the Ledbetter vote. That SC ruling was about as ridiculous as they come.
Hallelujah, the Bush administration is fading from view as the train of change roars through.
-
Hi Obama Ladies! Just an FYI for those that don't subscribe to HBO, they will open their air waves for the Sunday inauguration festivities!
I will not be watching the Bush lies tonight. I've had enough BS to last a life time.

I know I'm days late, but Renee, in answer to your question about $$$ spent on inauguration, I do think events like this stimulate the local economy. I think the money will provide jobs for Washington, DC caterers, waiters, bus-persons, cooks, chefs, janitors, hotel employees, local police, local sanitation dept., local news, florists, bakers, shopkeepers, sound engineers, musicians, deejays, etc., etc. And that's probably all for the good.

I don't remember any time when I wasn't a Democrat! I guess I too am one of the intellectually inferior leftist leaning liberal Democrats--oh my shame shame on me (hear the sarcasm, right).
Guess I have 2 observations. Repugs might appear to want to "discuss" politics, but when they can't win the debate, they hit below the belt--as in name-calling and character assassinations. Have seen that on this board and in my daily interactions with republicans. This behavior really shuts down any true communication or listening to the person opposite you. When one experiences this over and over, one finally realizes that any response to conservative repugs that behave like this is to ignore and not respond at all.
My second observation is that I was brought up to live up to a number of "rules" my parents insisted on. Other than the Golden Rule, I have fully embraced the rule of leaving a place in better shape than when you arrived. That meant cleaning up the litter other campers left before me to helping someone who needs assistance in some way. I also see this board as a place where we come to make the journey with breast cancer and where we go from here, as a space that respects each person. Whether one believes in God or not, practices some religion or is an atheist or agnostic; we are each individuals who deserve to be treated with respect even if we don't like someone's political stance. I believe that through this journey I am responsible for making the space around me a little (or a lit) better than it was when I arrived. I want to acknowledge the Obama gals on this thread for raising themselves above the "fray," and not sinking to the level of name-calling and character assassinations I have seen on other threads.
This is why I participate in this thread, and feel a great connection to each of you (and you know who you are). I have enjoyed your humor and lively political discussions. I appreciate the support all of you demonstrate to each other. I believe that each and every one of us do make the space around us a little better by our presence; and that the betterment will continue long after we have moved on.
I raise my glass to each of you and thank you for your cyber-friendship! Hear, hear!!
WoooooooooooooHoooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am making my change pie this weekend. Gonna have a big ole slice of pie along with my Orangina & Grand Marnier cocktail. Gonna live it up as we anticipate a wonderful, historic momentous Tuesday, January 20, 2009!!
Now I will take my maudlin self off to pick up my granddaughter. Just had to get this off my chest!!!!!!!!
Whoa--did you see that--what went past--was it a drive-by?
LOL
Have a lovely evening not watching the puppet give his last "speech," not sure what to call it--it really isn't a speech is it?
-
He had me at Dear Malia and Sasha-- I'm bawling my eyes out. I love that man.
If anyone gets parade magazine and doesn't want to keep the story, can you save it for me. I want to frame it for the Obama corner of my wall. I have the NTY cover story from the election framed and that would be great next to it. I want to get one from the inauguration too.
I've been flipping the channel back and forth from the hearings and senate to other things. I didn't catch Biden's speech, except for a snippet on the news. I caught most of Hillary's I found myself rolling my eyes. She was there for 8 years and she went on and on like she had been there her whole life. I thought it was a little much and it caused me to think she still has political ambitions. I hope as Secretary of State she loses some of the flair for drama and Bill learns not to get in her way and cause more drama.
Did you guys see the video of Roland Burris finding his senate office with his family in tow. I felt really happy for him. Even though he's 71, I love his child like wonderment through out the process. I loved the way his eyes lit up when a reporter told him Obama praised him. Burris said, "He did?" in such a joyful way. Burris seemed so proud to be a senator. I love his humility and perserverance.
Obama is a class act holding that dinner for McCain. I'll bet Palin was invited and in perhaps the only sane decision she made, is to stay away. I sincerely doubt he considers Palin his #1 booster, et tu Brutus LOL.
-
I missed the hearings as I've been watching the local news reports on an airplane that crashed into the Hudson River shortly after taking off from LaGuardia. almost 200 people on board and everyone is alive and accounted for!
-
amy - isn't the parade magazine found in sunday papers? if it comes in mine i will save it for you.
i agree about burris, rather endearing... palin's absence from the dinner speaks volumes like megan mccain's silence, imo.
felicia - thank goodness that us airways plane crash worked out well for everyone. i was watching it on t.v....incredible.
grace - i feel the same about all the lovely obama ladies here ... what a wild ride it has been.
lap - yep, the train of change is leaving the station.
watching the holder confirmation, i really like him...
woooooooohoooooooooo we won.
-
edit to remove my original post as i recieved a p.m. saying that i had misquoted someone.
it was a straight cut and paste, no quoting involved, but in the event that i misconstrued the remarks, i am removing them.
-
Yeah - I posted in that ridiculous thread in a moment of weakness. Won't happen again, I promise
...
-
Felicia,
Welcome back to the fold. I have to say though, you are ANYTHING but weak. In fact, you are one tough broad that I would never want to cross!
Whooooohooooooo!!!
Just a few short days.
-
iI posted this on the Republican thread...and I'm posting it here as well.
Is it too late to ask for a truce....and say "why can't we all get along?"
Seriously, I know we all have different opinions, and I myself have been guilty of letting my mouth speak before my brain thinks...but if we can't even move past our differences here on these boards, then how are we going to move past them as a nation? I worry about the direction of this country, not because of whose running it...but because of the way we treat each other as people. I know I'm asking a LOT, but can we have a cooling off period where no one is attacking anyone?
No more throw downs...there is so much ugliness in the world outside, lets not bring it in here too...
Bonnie
-
I agree with you, Bonnie, especially today - the actually birthdate of MLK. It seems that turning the other cheek should be in order...
I'm in no way justifying my rant, but it has been oh so frustrating to see people get attacked left and right and then banned from the entire board when they DON'T respond! To me, that has nothing to do with politics but more to do with the personal - like we've somehow reverted back to grade school and those girls we don't like, we talk about and shun. It stinks.
But what do you do about that - take it to the moderators? I HAVE - as have others - and don't really get much more than "it's being looked into." Still the bans and nastiness keep coming. It literally makes me sick. I've actually left this board once because of similar unfairness, but I came back because of the friends I've made here and because I think it is important to give back and help all the new folks here struggling with their diagnoses and treatments - just like so many did for me...
I stayed away from the republican thread for a long time - exactly because of the ugly stuff that was being tossed so casually. My mistake was going back as I know myself too well, lol. Since I can't just read and keep my fingers from responding, I'm just not going back anymore.
I wish we could all just get along, but that may never be the case, unfortunately. Just like in the real world, there are many places I CAN go but really shouldn't - if for peace of mind and sanity if nothing else.
As far as a truce, all I can say is I'lldo my best to stay out of the fray from now on...
-
bonnie, it is amazing how we all got through treatment together but the election derailed us...
i went to a flyers - ducks game a couple weeks ago, it was the best game i have seen all year. the flyers won. they look really good this year!
felicia - you are one awesome sister .
donna - hope you are packing lots of warm stuff for d.c. i saw your itinerary, what a wonderful trip you have going.
-
In our irritation about the report feature, we conducted an experiment in reporting posts--just to figure out how many it would take to delete them, and whether even innocuous ones would get deleted. Guess what? They do! The report button has been abused, in our opinion. Used too easily on some posters, and not enough on others. There were a couple of posts on the RR thread about Amy that were particularly personal and libelous. Those should have been deleted, by the other folks on the RR thread, if by no one else, but weren't. Maybe us "dimwits" should have reported them sooner.
We've made a concerted effort recently on this thread not to respond to posts that might lead to an argument and not to refer to the RR ladies at all in our posts (talking behind their backs, in other words). Now that we've made our point about the posts, we'll go back to being good girls!
Happy b-day, dear Martin.
-
My daughter's leaving Saturday for D.C. We bought her boots, hat, mittens and scarf--things she hasn't used in ages. I checked the extended forecast for D.C.--Inauguration Day will be in the mid-30s, partly cloudy. No rain or snow for the week. Could be a lot worse!
-
wow, i went to put a poster on ignore and saw my name in her post and she had cut and paste a p.m. i sent to her...
isn't that illegal? lol talk about throw downs ... holy "too much time on her hands" batman!
no worries ... i am a big girl and can move on ...
Martin would be so happy to see the change that is coming, of this i am sure.
-
I decided to Tivo CSI for later. Just saw the coverage of the plane going into the Hudson in NY. That pilot is one bad dude! The whole flight crew should be treated as heroes!
As a person who flies frequently, I feel a little safer knowing that the people who fly the planes are so damn smart!
-
Yeah, Donna, Chesley Sullenberger and crew are true heroes! Must have been terrifying for the passengers. Amazing.
-
Wow. I just read this story about the river landing, and it's making me cry! The pilot walking through the cabin twice to make sure everyone was off! The male passengers making sure women and children got off first! (as we know, not necessarily something one can always count on!) The pilots of all the boats that plucked people out of that FREEZING water! Wow. Thank God everyone's okay.
-
donna - hats off to you my friend ... i admire your strength and grace for standing up, speaking out to those who choose to post hate, both thinly veiled or straight up towards other posters on a public thread.
i understand the discomfort of some at bc.org as we move to the inauguration of president-elect barack h. obama. i have experienced such discomfort, twice...
but to continually post personal attacks about a person who has never thrown down only laid it down, saying she will not respond to her attackers is
just not right and should not be allowed to stand on a public board. period. i understand moderators have little interest in policing political threads on a site, but no one should have to sustain personal attacks, day after day, month after month.
no one.

Laura -
I have just reached my limit when it comes to the bullying. If Tami and Melissa want to ban me, then so be it, but I stand behind every post I have made.
I have tried to rise above the BS, but it has occurred to me - what is the point?
-
Donna - I am with you 100%.
It is a fine line between bullying and verbal abuse, sadly the line gets crossed time and time again.
Thank you for standing up to it.
-
Ditto from me! I don't think they even see the difference between criticizing and mocking a political party or a politician, and doing the same to individuals on this thread. Do they really think we give a rat's ass about what they say about Obama and Pelosi? Or liberals? Their personal attacks should have been reported a long time ago.
