Anyone making any fashion New Year's resolutions? Like, I will not wear jeans every, single day of 2009? Or, I will get decently dressed to go to the grocery store from now on? I know I need a little help, but am having trouble prioritizing. Where to start?
-
Yah...my goal is to get out of my husband's jeans and back into my own !
-
How can you fit into your husband's jeans? My dh has these narrow hips..........No way I could force my butt into his pants. LOL
-
Used to tick me off ... I had a great pair of 501's and my ex would sometimes get up and get mine! One time they came back with tile grout all over them. I was so mad I went out and bought an expensive pair of jeans with a design on the back so he couldn't take them anymore.
-
Resolutions?????
OH, those things some people do and then beat themselves up when they quit doing them. I skip the first and second phases of them and just keep trying to make it to the end of the week!
-
Great, big, snuggly hugs to all of you with good wishes for the New Year. Onward and upward!
-
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
"GOOD CLOTHES OPEN ALL DOORS"
-
Amen to that, Daff, & ditto Tina's message. It was 9 degrees here last night ( !! ) so we need all the warm clothes & snuggly hugs we can get.

Cinderella is proof that a pair of shoes really can change your life.

Fairy tales do inspire.
Resolution. Ok guys, I am gonna come clean. I am a closet smoker. I smoke when I am out with the girls (which sometimes snowballs to a quick sneaky smoke here and there), but have quit as of yesterday. UGHHHHH. I don't even smoke all of the time and I hate the thought of not ever doing it again. It is fun! And gross. And unhealthy. And very unfashionable. Not quite sure why I am posting this here on the fashion thread; I guess because you are my girls.
Thanks for listening.
Smokeless in Ohio - Raye
-
Oh, pookey, you can tell us anything.
I started smoking when I was about 17, during a summer job situation. Everyone did it then.
Basically, I was a smoke and beer person, couldn't smoke when I was alone because it made me ill. Still cannot understand that one.
Anyway, I smoked and smoked until one day I just quit. I hated the way it made my throat feel. Of course, I cheated for years when I got together with one, certain friend and smoked hers. OPs, my favorite brand.
It's funny because I could smoke a whole pack during a visit and then not smoke again or even think of it for a month or two. Must have been a social habit with me and not addicted, although I did inhale.
That tapered off over the years and I don't think I've had a butt in at least 15 years. Probably more.
So, my dear penitent, there is hope for you.
Here I am typing with my jeans on. Is there no hope for me? Well, I will lose 10 pounds and wear nicer stuff soon. If I cut out my daily champagne, won't I lose a ton of weight? This is a fashion issue, girls.
-
Raye, I'm an ex-smoker & believe me, if they could figure out how to make it healthy, I'd do it again in a heartbeat! Good for you! You go, girl!
-
Raye, don't worry, you can do it. I had smoked here and there as a teen. I quit altogether in my 20's but then after I had my daughter and a yucky husband, I started in on it again! Maybe about a pack a week. Then I quit again when I got CA. Then I picked it up again, SNEEKING, because my dd is impressionable. I'd wait til she went to bed and have one or two. She caught me and I promised to try to quit. Well I've quit again and it's been about 6 months. I did go to a b-day party and had ONE about 2 weeks ago but I about GAGGED .. never again. And the smell of someone's burning cigarette is just awful.
-
Thanks girls!!! I need and appreciate the support!
Good for you guys for never picking the cigs up again. I can't ever have a puff again or I will fall into the same old pattern and totally off the wagon.
-
I lurk a lot on this site, but don't post because I just can't keep up with you girls! I just had to respond to abbadoodles about the jeans issue and dressing decently to go to the grocery store. I am so with you on that one! I have to admit that sometimes jeans are a step up for me. I half expect to be ambushed by Stacy and Clinton from What Not to Wear when I run out to the grocery store in workout pants and a tee shirt! I watch that show so much that I really do know what not to wear, but lack the motivation to get it together other than for work.
-
LOL, I just rolled laughing at the thought of Stacy and Clinton comming after one of us!
I keep looking for something different than jeans or pull on black knit pants and haven't come up with anything that I'd go thru ironing for. LOL .... Of course, I spent 20 years in suits and panty hose, so I guess I've done my time, besides I live in a small town and no one dresses up around her except for work, and I'm retired!!!! Yea!
I do try to do my hair and eye makeup every day, esp. if going out. But then again, I swim 3x wk and HATE doing my hair all the time. I started back getting perms and the 18mos without was really good for my hair. Now I just condition after swimming and drive home. I do use the curling iron most days after I get home and the hair is dry.
-
It's sad when the highlight of your Friday night is a new What Not toWear!
I talk back to them, of course! (They really hate suburban, resort, or country club wear!)
And I wish they'd put Spanx on some of their victims......
-
Not that I'm a fashionista or anything (obviously, if I go out in public in workout wear), but I sometimes question Stacy's choice of clothing for herself! I totally agree about the spanx.
-
Every girl should be given a pair of Spanx on their 40th birthday!!
-
I stopped by Neiman Marcus today, I don't normally shop there except for makeup. The prcies are the same but they have very knowledgeble makeup artists. Anyhow they have a huge sale on very nice bras like Natori or Wacola for $20-$25 instead of usual $50-70.
But I was shocked when I found out that their sale is a FINAL one like in "you cannot return this item". WOW! Who would have thought Neiman Marucs (or as my friend calls then Needless Markups) would get to this .
But if you need a nice bra and there is a NM nearby, it's worth a visit. I just found out that I was wearing wrong size bra 38C instead of 36D so I needed a new batch
-
Now, there's a good excuse to go to Neiman's~~~10 minutes away! I've been boycotting them because they won't do anything for my cancer luncheon~~~except I do usually cruise through apres Christmas!
-
Raye...it's about time you licked that problem once & for all!!! Sorry we didn't help you more over at the spa thread.
You already done most of the work, because you've quit once; don't feel that you failed because you started up again. I bet you are not smoking near as much now as you used to.
I quit cold turkey the first time and when to hell and back for the space of about a week, but managed to stay away from the smokes until I moved into a house with smokers. Then I started again. I moved out to quit, and immediately cut my smoking way down, and I finally did manage to cut them out completely, and the second time was not nearly as hard... So stay strong, stay firm and you'll do it!!!

Raye ~ I thought I'd give it a week before I checked on your butt-stompin' progress.
:::but now I detect you may need reinforcements:::
I know only YOU can do it - but anyone with the self-discipline to maintain the body that you do knows something about perseverance. Just thought I'd remind you of that. . .
Lisa

Linora and Lisa - Thanks so much for your support. I do need it - but you said it best, Lisa - it is something I need to do myself - it has to come from within. It's been 5 days - this is day 6 of no fumars (as my friends and I like to call the cigs). It completely stinks, but people are sick and I am running around smoking? Stupid and selfish.
Again, sorry to hijack the thread about my nasty dirty gross habit.
So, how about those sales?
Raye
-
Raye...6 days and counting!!! You know, it was on Day 6 of the first time I quit that I felt like I'd done it!!! Your past the difficult point. Now all you have to do is avoid smoking situations. Don't drink, avoid places where you used to smoke...you've already over the hump!!!
On another topic...more the topic of this thread...I did something very impulsive yesterday. I signed up for Project Runway!!! Not the TV one, but one that they're doing close to home. The theme is recycling old clothes. Signed up yesterday...lots of people, lots of tables of all kinds of old clothes. My inspiration is Keira Knightley's green dress in Atonement.
I found an old green taffeta embroidered dress with enormous shoulders and bell sleeves, a hideous large bow on the back, and a similar black gown in black taffeta and everything got photographed for the "BEFORE" take. My model will be the same one I showed in a recent picture here. She is ecstatic...Keira is her favorite actress and and there is a certainly physical similarity...tall, thin, small breasts...I actually think my model has a more beautifully proportioned body.
The show will be on January 25. The outfits will be auctioned off to benefit a local arts organization which I strongly support.
Well, I came home and started ripping the dresses apart and I've already pinned something on my mannikin that I think is gonna work.
I'll show you a picture later!!! This is so much fun!!!

Linora sounds awesome!! Can't wait to see pics.
RAYE- I am so proud of you. You're doing great. Kicking cigarettes is the hardest thing, and I am so glad that you are toughing it out!!! Welcome to the world of NON SMOKERS. The air is clean, our hair smells great, our teeth are white, and we have less wrinkles. You belong here!!!!
-
Linora - That dress is gorgeous, what fun! I love Keira Knightly - what a beauty she is.
Beth - THANK YOU! RE: White teeth, I am breaking out my bleaching trays tonight. Hello, whiter smile.
-
SHHHHHHhhh!!! Here's a sneak preview. I had to work with the materials on hand...I just LUV that shade of green Keira is wearing but I had to settle for something darker and bluer. I've just pinned things on the mannekin...haven't sewed a stitch yet!!!
Goes to show you how creative limitations can actually broaden your horizons...this is a very different dress but it was inspired by Keira's. Model's coming tomorrow for a fitting.

Amazing! So feminine and sexy.

I love your chest of drawers. I have one similar, faux bamboo edges, slightly bowed front.
The dress is lovely.
